Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Euro 2008 Trivia of the Week

One of the features of this tournament has been the presence of naturalized Brazilians, so....

"How many countries have included Brazilian-born, naturalized citizens in their squads? Name the players and their teams."

Good luck, lads!

OK, I'm interested in this because I'm keen to know if there are more naturalized Turks or Brazilians in this tourney.

The Swiss have that Gelson Fernandes who probably is, the Portuguese have Nani, Deco, and Pepe, the Turks have Mehmet Aurelio, the Croats have Eduardo (technically a non-participant), the Poles have Guerreiro, there's Senna for the Spanish. That's 8.

Now the Turks, Inler, Yakin, Derdiyok for the Swiss, Ozcan, and Korkmaz for the Austrians, and I guess that's it. 6.

Nice job, Gooner. Spot on with Deco and Pepe from the Portugal team, Mehmet (Marcos) Aurelio from Turkey, Roger Guerreiro from the Polish side and Marcos Senna from the Spanish team.

Fernandes turns out to have Portuguese rather than Brazilian. Nani was born in Portugal but to Brazilian parents so he could have qualified for either side. I didn't count Eduardo since he's crocked but he would certainly count.

There's one more that I won't give you yet. He was born in Rio but to a German-Hungarian dad and Panamanian mother. Can you guess him?

Jens Lehman, then.

Surely he must be Brazilian born judging from that nervy performance against the Turks.

Good guess, but alas it's Kevin Kuranyi that has the confused ancestry. Jens is just confused.
