France 2016 Final - France v. Portugal Live!
Afternoon, chaps! The big day of the France 2016 has arrived. Typically, I would feel a bit sad on this day, knowing that we would have a barren period between the end of this tournament and the beginning of the new season. However, this France 2016 has been so wretched that I can't wait to see the back of it. After today, I'll need a total break from football for about a month before the new season starts.
Until then, though - let's hope the final is a true tournament capper with loads of goals - and no penalties. Join me on ESPN and here on the LOB!

Afternoon Bob
I agree with your sentiment
Not sure what Portugal will do
Looks like Portugal will be in red
I hope France will be in blue
Good afternoon Bob and Dave.I agree too. Correct France is wearing blue.
I will be blogging from my phone at my brother's pad.
Moths an issue!!
The French left the lights all night now there are swarms of them
I'm on my phone as well
Afternoon David
Welcome, boys - great to have you on board for the final.
No surprises with either XI. France are unchanged; Portugal bring in Pepe and William Carvalho, who missed the semi-final through injury and suspension, for Bruno Alves and Danilo.

Substitutes: Jallet, Rami, Kante, Cabaye, Gignac, Martial, Schneiderlin, Mangal, Mandanda, Digne, Coman, Costil.
Portugal (4-1-3-2) Rui Patricio; Cedric, Pepe, Fonte, Guerreiro; William Carvalho; Renato Sanches, Adrien Silva, Joao Mario; Nani, Ronaldo.
Substitutes: Bruno Alves, Carvalho, Moutinho, Eder, Vierinha, Anthony Lopes, Danilo, Andre Gomes, Rafa Silva, Eliseu, Ricardo Quaresma, Eduardo.
Referee Mark Clattenburg (England)
The officiating at this tourney has been very good
Teams in the tunnel now - stop winking at me, Skippy!
Apart from the two dodgy penalties conceded by the Germans.
Both teams wearing their traditional colors as the teams come out
Tape recorder inserted in nose
Portugal’s plan is simple: resist the inevitable fast start, keep the game tight and wait for the home crowd to get nervous. In other words, exactly what Greece did to them in the final of 2004.
Both were good decisions!!!
False number nine for Portugal, of course. (Sigh)....
Disagree - they violate the FIFA rule that handballs must be deliberate.
And we are off
Wrong
They're off from the Stade de France
We're set to go here - Portugal kick us off wearing their traditional plummy red. France in their blue, as it should be.
Bloody Twellman
Ball to hand, not hand to ball, mate.
Portugeezers giving the ball away cheaply early on.
The last two tournaments won by a host nation have been won by France.
Of course, in the Friendlies before the tourney, England beat Germany, Portugal and France and Wales in the tourney. All the semi finalist
We are the real Euro Champs
They do love to win at home, don't they?
Portugal with a nervous start as I expected.
Ian Darke and Double T praising Pepe - what a load of wankers. I'd love to see him lose a leg.
Nani was sprung there - but he blasted over the bar. He'll need to take those chances.
The first chance of the match for Portugal as they go route one and Nani blasts over with just Lloris to beat.
Do you lot want Pogba at United? Do you think he'll come?
I don't think he will come
No CL
France cause problems with the high press and a cross is headed on by Griezmann and blasted halfway to Geordie Land by Cissokho
Oh - good pressure there from France. And Griezmann had a half chance but sliced his shot badly.
But you lot got Mou and Zlatan. Pretty big time names.
Skippy is down early.
More of the high press and Sissokho puts through Griezmann who slices wide.
Boos as Skippy is down. He's faking.
Great header by Griezmann but tipped over well by Rui Patricio.
Great header and save!!
Good start
Payet swings a corner in that Giroud meets but with no power. Rui Patricio collects.
Rui Patricio tips over a header from Griezmann and Ollie heads straight to Rui Patricio from the corner by Payet.
And a wretched start by Portugal who seen overawed.
Beautiful day here in WNY - how about for you lot?
Nothing Portugal tries seems to work.
Turning nice
Was rainy and cold yesterday and this morning
Very hot in Florida.
Skippy has gone down again - it looks bad for him.
Ronaldo to come off !!!
Crying
Rotten start for Portugal. They can hardly put two passes together and now their star player is going to have to come off. He's in tears now.
Yikes! Skippy goes down. If they lose him then how do Portugal expect to win other than a penalty shootout?
They are going to wrap it up
Quaresma coming off the bench to warm up - they're going to try to get him back on but it doesn't look good.
France crock Ronaldos in finals!!!
Quaresma would be the likely replacement, but it would be quite a drop in quality.
He's back on
They've strapped him up again and Skippy is coming back on.
Skippy back on.Will he last the course of the match.
Ian Darke says Portugal have to be fair to Real! It's a bloody final. Portugal doesn't give a toss.
Decent run there from Sissokho there but then he blasted over the top.
The toon man takes space in front of him
I like it
Positive
Good take by Rui Patricio from the corner.
Skippy doesn't look right.
Ronny can't run
Sissokho goes on a solo run and his shot is tipped over. Rui Patricio catches the corner.
Adrien Silva with a horrible shot.
That's it for Skippy now. He's torn off the captain's armband and thrown it away. He'll be stretchered off.
It's over for him
Just walk off tho
He's spent more time on the floor
About ten minutes of this half has been taken up with the Skippy drama - get him off!
Skippy to be substituted. That could be curtains for Portugal. Mark Clattenburg signals for the stretcher.
Sporting gesture from the French fans - I wouldn't be that sporting.
This better not get Real busy in the market
Quaresma on.
In truth, Skippy hadn't done anything in the 15 minutes that he'd been fit - Portugal might be better off without him to soak up all the opportunities.
Cedric manages to get a cross over but Joao Mario has a wretched headed effort - just kind of bounces off his head.
The Guardian blog has reported that this match is not being shown live in Germany. Sour grapes?
Portugal are now playing a 4-1-4-1 with Nani up front alone, sort of. Really boring. Do they not have any strikers in Portugal?
Now Portugal are trying to possession the death out of this game
No attacking the ball in the six
Sissokho wins a corner off a solo run.
Another great run from the Toon man
Worthless from Pogba. A million stopovers and then loses the ball.
Germans are normally sore losers and Portugal haven't had a natural striker for a while.
If France score then I don't see a way back for Portugal.
Great save by Rui Patricio from Sissy.
Sissokjo is the star man of this final so far
Cedric is the first player to go into the book.
Sissoko seems to be the only player who has shown up to play a game of football today.
Cedric of the Saints booked for a high boot on Payet.
Could Sissokho be the tournament MVP.Who would have thought?
Adrien Silva takes to long to shoot then Raphael has a shot deflected for a corner.
Fonte heads well over from the corner by Joao Mario.
This first half has been as poor as the rest of the tournament.
Sagna tackles Joao Mario for a corner. The corner is headed away then out of play by French born Raphael.
Poor first half, but there's been worse this tournament.
If anything, Portugal have been better since Skippy went off!
Rui Patricio could win the golden glove. Nobody expected that.
Agreed. However he's scored or assisted on all but one goal this tournament. Can they score without him?
Two minutes of stoppage time.
The camera cuts to Luis Figo and catches him in the middle of an extended yawn.
A nasty clash of heads between Evra and Quaresma.
Is Payet on the pitch? Inquiring minds want to know...
Can you blame him?
Joao Mario plays a ball in but there is absolutely no one in the six yard box so it sails out of play harmlessly.
Half-time - yawn.....
Scoreless
Useless
It's 0-0 at the end of a half most noteworthy for Skippy the skipper skipping off injured.
The second half is underway.
We are off for the second half
France need to improve
France get us underway again - it can only get better.
Nani is down, but seems to be OK
I would like to see Coman come on - I like him a lot. He would be welcome at Elland Road.
Sissoko is going into the book now - no , Clattenberg has decided that kicking Pepe is not a yellow card offense. I concur.
A foul on Pepe dives
He had stopped doing for much of this tourney
Naughty by Sissokho on Pepe, who rolls around trying to get the Toon man booked. Clattenburg did not fall for it.
Great comment Bob
Coman starts for Bayern. He's more likely to go to OT where he would be welcome.
Great tackle by Pepe to stop a solo run by Payet.
Late by Nani on Sissokho.
Rob Smyth has commented that Payet has had an outstanding game. Really? Is he watching the same match that I am?
The only meaningful contribution that Payet has made has been in knobbling Skippy.
No red cards in a Euro Final. Wrong, Ian. France had a player sent off in the 1984 final.
I haven't been impressed, but it didn't seem a malicious challenge on Skippy.
Portugal will be delighted by this. I reckon they'd go straight to penalties right about now.
I think Clattenburg has been MOTM.
Umtiti heads out a cross from Joao Mario for a corner that's headed away by the first man.
Kingsley Coman on for Payet, who gets a mixed reception.
Payet off
How does that affect the pool
Does it hel Red Dragon
Coman puts through Griezmann who shoots straight at Rui Patricio from a narrow angle.
It helps Red Dragon, hurts WHR,and helps Yours Truly if Lloris wins the golden glove.
If Deschamp bring on the Mexican I'm going to scream
I'm not sure it's relevant given the pattern of play, but these LOBers can still earn 2 points if any of these geezers scores the winner:
Chelskilad - Griezmann
Gooner and Simon - Giroud
UWS and West - Payet
MUR and Red Dragon - Pogba
You know he will, UWS....
Looks like a storm's a brewing here.
Neuer has allowed the least amount of goals
Only one wasn't a pen
Joao Mario into the book now - sigh.....
JOAO Mario booked for a foul from behind on Ollie.
Evra wins a corner.
JOAO Mario heads out the corner from Griezmann then Coman has a shot blocked.
I'd probably pick Neuer but, if France win, it's likely to be Lloris for Golden Glove.
Ian Darke has already started to list the production credits. Is he packing up to go home?
The attack minded Joao Moutinho is warming up.Is Fernando Santos going for it?
Oh - Griezmann must score there! WTF!
Oh! The best chance of the match. A free header for the GBB. He heads well wide from a great cross by Coman.
Joao Moutinho on for Adrien Silva.
Coman wide from long range.
Renato Sanches has done nowt today.
Fonte called for climbing on Ollie.
The free kick from Griezmann is headed away then cleared.
Coman has livened things up a bit. But why take off Payet and leave the water carrier Matiudi on? I don't get it.
Ollie puts through Comman, but his cross is cleared for a corner that's cleared.
The sub almost him
Then Evra misses a chance from corner
Good point. I agree.
Ollie with a wayward header off a cross from Evra.
Oh - Coman put through Giroud but Rui Patricio stood up well to the Arsenal man.
Great save by Rui Patricio from Ollie off a pass from Coman.
This modern day game has to be fixed
The Portuguese don't deserve anything for this display.
Here comes the Mexican, just to make UWS' day.
Here comes the Mexican
What about Martial????
Good news for Tom
Will France win it late through substitutions like they did earlier this tournament?
And Renato Sanches off as well - Ian Darke thinks he's been a "bright young thing" of this tournament? Really - one scuffed shot that was deflected in and that's enough?
Sanchez coming off for Eder
Wish it was the 82 Brazilian
Ooh
Two great saves by Lloris
Oh - Lloris saved well twice there. Nani's no hope cross had to be dealt with.
Gignac of Tigres on for Ollie. Eder, who flopped at Swansea, is on.Probably the only number nine Portugal has.
Umtiti picks up another yellow. Darke was also singing his praises, though why I do not know.
Lloris pushes away a miss hit cross from Nani then catches the rebound from Quaresma.
Do we really have to sit through half an hour more of this tosh?
Umtiti booked for a foul on the Swansea flop.
Unless France win it late like they did earlier this tournament.
Too much for Fernando Santos to take.
Superb long range save by Rui Patricio from Sissy.
Oh - great raking drive from Sissoko! Good save!
Great effort!!!
Why couldn't that have been the winner
But for Rui Patricio, France would be several goals up.
Useless by the Mexican
The Toon Man has been MOTM
Coming down to the final moments and I'm struggling to stay awake here.
A cross from Sagna takes a weird bounce and is caught by Rui Patricio. Three minutes of stoppage time.
Did Darke just say that this would be the first 0-0 draw in a Euro final?
I think Rui Patricio has been MOTM.
Bloody hell - Signac nearly put us all out of our misery!!!
The Mexican hit the post
OH! Off The post by Gignac. Could have won the match.
It's 0-0. Headed to ET.
ET is underway.
Still watching
Sigh
Portugal with a win and six draws after ninety minutes this tournament. First team to play three ET matches in a Euro. And they could be European champions. Sigh.
Rui Patricio could win golden glove and best tournament. A possibility?
Darke and Twellman keep on blaming this on Skippy's absence. But he was rubbish when he was on.
Oh - close call for Portugal.
I thought Pepe scored
Offside anyway
Pepe heads inches wide from a free kick from Quaresma, but he was flagged offside. Now Raphael is booked.
I agree, Bob.
Matuidi booked for a foul on the Swansea flop.
And now Matiudi with his requisite yellow card. If Deschamps had really wanted to win this one, he'd have been off an hour ago.
William Carvalho into the book now....the cards are flying
William Carvalho booked for a foul on Coman to halt a solo run.
Gignac wins a corner off of Fonte from a long pass from Evra. The corner is headed away.
Pogba wins a corner.
