Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Afternoon, mate - thanks for getting us going. Unfinished business, indeed. Fortunately, the CBS All Access stream is up and running and I'm watching the preliminaries.
The team news for this afternoon's match:
Man Utd (4-2-3-1) Romero; Fosu-Mensah, Bailly, Maguire, Williams; McTominay, Fred; Mata, Lingard, James; Ighalo.
Substitutes: Grant, Pogba, Martial, Rashford, Pereira, Fernandes, Greenwood, Wan-Bissaka, Matic, Garner, Chong, Mengi.

Substitutes: Lawal, Gebauer, Filipovic, Reiter, Ramsebner, Muller, Wostry, Haudum, Sabitzer, Celic.
Old Trafford looking splendid on this late summer evening, with a lovely sunset happening over the Stratford End. And here come the teams.
Cheers, Bob. Glad to help. Here to join you as the players are getting ready to come out of the tunnel
I was able to connect to the link on my laptop
Wonder what the limit is
I have to pick Kathy up during at half time
In the two earlier ties Copenhagen defeated Istanbul Basaksheir 3-0 to advance 3-1 on agg.
Shakhtar defeated the VWs 3-0 to to advance 5-1 on agg. All three goals scored in second half stoppage time. We should watch the stoppage time part of the replay
Good afternoon, Dave. Great to have you around and hopefully intact from the storm
We're done with the preliminaries and set to go. With a 5-0 aggregate lead from the away leg, United should be able to go out have some fun.
The other tie being played at this time is Inter vs Getafe , which is basically a one leg match since the original leg was canceled
Hiya, Dave - glad you were able to jump on the stream. I've never had any trouble with the Plus link, so the limit must be reasonably high.
They're off from OT
Doesn't it seem as if it's the same commentators regardless of the streaming source? This guy sounds really familiar.
Thanks, Bob. We appreciate you signing on with the CBS account
It sounds like the same commentator as the Copenhagen match. I'll chew to that
Bad giveaway from Fred there. No need for that.
We are off
I was a little annoyed with Ollie this week. He was saying about how important winning a trophy is for United.....WHY PLAY SO CRAP IN THE FA CUP SEMI FINAL THEN!!
I guess TNT's rights expired around July 1st and they lost out to CBS
My pleasure, mate - it's a new world, eh?
Who won that match? The Danes?
I hope CBS proper actually show some matches!
Agreed. Olly will need to make amends in the EL
The Danes won 3-0 on the night and 3-1 on agg
Oh - nice break there by United through Mata who just couldn't find Ighalo in the middle.
Come on Mata.... get it over!
And Maguire nods over from the corner. Decent chance there.
Harry Maguire heads over from a corner
They are next up for United, correct?
Maguire heads a corner over the top
No fake crowd noise on this broadcast?
Did you see Nathan Ake joined Man City today
Alexis Sanchez FINALLY left United on a Free... to Inter
Have they already made the draw for the next round?
Told Tom to come join me for the match. Still up in his room...lazy bugger(he did already coach this morning)
They've drawn all the way to the Final
United could meet Wolves in the Semi
Inter in the Final
Yes they have. The quarters are on Monday and Tuesday. United play Copenhagen on Monday
Interesting. These matches are so close together over the next few weeks that it will have the feel of a real tournament.
United should have tried to sign Ake
Oh - off the bar from the Austrians!
Wonder if we can assume United are through. Hopefully they don't blow the five goal lead
LASK hit the bar....and then hit just wide
United have mailed this one in
Looks like it. A really poor start from Unitd
Not sure that Ake is good enough for either City or United. Bottom half club, more like.
I saw that Ake had joined United and about Alexis. Will he face us in the final?
I have to admit I've never heard of this LASK outfit before. Must be one of these upstart teams bankrolled by some billionaire.

I think Ake is in for depth. He probably will play in League Cup matches and the odd CL match. I think he could start for a team like Wolves
Thanks for the draw info. That really helps.
Boys are jealous!
United still pass the ball TOO MUCH
Get the ball...take a man on...get the ball in the box
Inter vs Getafe is a one off since the original leg was canceled
That last United pass was off by more than a Mata of yards
Thanks for posting all that, mate.
Jonas Wind named MOTM in the Copenhagen match. Didn't he blow with some force yesterday up the East Coast?
I just don't get playing around at the back and pinning yourself in the corner
Mason Greenwood looks really bored in the stands.
Sounds like a Mighty Wind, mate. LOL!
Just to let you know, Bob, that you made an error in the PPP points tally. You owe yourself two points because you're supposed to award yourself eight points, not six for the FA Cup win. That puts you on 42 points tied for first
LOLO, Bob. Wonder if Dave and Steve experienced that wind yesterday
Did I? Wow - that's marvelous - perhaps the Shield is coming home, after all. Poor math skills as usual from me. LOL!
Bob may be right about LASK. They came out of nowhere to win the Austrian Bundesliga last season in stead of the favored Salzburg, who themselves, are backed by the Red Bull money
LASK looking dangerous again!
I remember you saying that on Cup Final Day David... and then Bob gave himself only 40
Bob, your chances are hinged on Citeh winning the CL. Mot needs Citeh to win the CL AND FOR Roma to win the EL. If only Citeh win you and him will be tied for first. Swansong needs Barca to win the CL while Johnno need BOTH United to win the EL and for PSG to win the CL
LASK with a free kick now....
Into the wall.
How did we beat these guys 5-0....THANK GOD WE DID!
The first leg was played while I was covering my last ever Study Hall! I had one more day of my career!
Why do all commentators these days think the only way to commentate on a goal is to scream the shooter's name
LOL, Dave. I just posted all the possible winning scenarios
Not good by James
Oh - Dan James streaked away on the left but was then hung up by the defender. Shame.
I think the limit is three. I've been trying to connect and it tells me that we've exceeded the number of devices. No worries, this one means a lot more to Dave and David that it does me. I'll watch the TUDO which is one of my channels.
I'm thinking that you lot might just squeak this one out..., 5 away goals, home advantage, LASK being utter pants. Good luck guys.
Wow - the fake OT crowd noise just started.
What an interesting coincidence. Any thoughts of going to study hall to bring United good luck?
Wish I was good at math...I can't keep up with David!
The fan noises just popped up.... very annoying!!
Maybe it will put the boot up United's backside
I just noticed that, Bob
I prefer the shooters name than the "SIGE, SIGE, SIGEAAAAAA" on the TUDO.
Hiya, Steve - sorry about that. We'll have to coordinate our efforts for the upcoming matches. Welcome, though.
Good Afternoon, Steve. Thanks and I can watch on TUDN as well to free up a spot
United always used to wearing red whenever they could..home or away...not these days!
LASK wore the same shirts with white in the first leg....United wore all black
Like I said, getting the Dave and David show in is more important today.
So, you don't like the fake fan noise, Dave? I've quite gotten used to it. The total silence with yelling in the background is a bit unnerving.
Another LASK chance and a header not too far wide
Nah David, but thanks. This is your team so you get first dibs.
McTom was onside... and blew it
Oh - Maguire with another free header. Put it wide!
Brandon Williams wins a United corner after Dan James appeared to be brought down in the box. Harry Maguire heads wide from the corner
Maguire wins a second corner header...heads wide again
Thanks Steve. I can free up for future matches. Also, CBSSN starting to air matches on Friday . I think the EL will be on CBSSN starting with the quarters
Nice turn by Ighalo off a pass from Lindy , but tackled as he was about to shoot
Unfortunately, that's a channel I don't get without upgrading.
I thought United were going to wear their new shirts today
They aren't
The other match is a one-off? Couid it be a Getafe-stree?
Inter one up.... Lukaku with the goal
Romero is quick off his line to sweep up that dangerous attack.
Romero does well to rush out and gather off a LASK through ball
Getafe-stree avoided.
BOOM BOOM, Steve!
Why isn't a five nil lead an invitation to go out and entertain and try and play attacking football
If United face Inter in the Final then they could face a trio of old mates in the form of the Chunk, Yash, and Alexis. Victor Moses and Eriksen to other former Prem players with Inter and managed by former Chelsea manager, Conte
That's what I was hoping you'd do. Why not let the kids play a bit for fun?
Am I right that you're fielding only 2 of your first 11 today? I noticed Baily just now completely blowing the offside trap when Romero had to collect under pressure.
Dan James win a corner off a pass from Lindy
Nice move there through Ighalo and Lindy set Dan James free. Cross cut out again.
Not really impressive defending....just horrible modern day crossing
It doesn't Mata if United win a corner if the corner doesn't find a United player
All the United players in the stands....BORED STIFF
As am I
Not sure if you've used that Mata pun before!!!!
Bruno looking bored too; perhaps he and Mason could start a poker game in the stands?
I came up with four regulars since Olly rotates the starers.I came up with Dan James , Fred, Harry Maguire , and Brandon Williams that play at least half the time. Mata plays some , but is no longer a first choice, but more off the subs bench. Definitely not United's strongest lineup
Looks like United are wearing training shirts!
Doesn't look like the past season's shirts or the new one
I'm bored too and it's hard when a match like this occurs during the heat of the day this time of the year here
Don't think I used that Mata one, but it helps keep me awake during the heat of the day
United ARE TOOTHLESS
I watched the first leg on TUDN
Some nice combination play in the last 5 minutes now.
Mata nearly in on that one but it was hacked away unceremoniously.
Being through on goal leads to a Mata of a goal instead of a simple tap in
Where are the commentators from on TUDN, Dave - Mexico? South America?
No drinkies / two minute timeout in the European competitions. Are you watching Prem officials
A minute of stoppage time
I'm thinking Mexico or it could be a mixture of Spanish speaking countries
Tom says it is the new kit... you can't see the yellow!
I have just put the match on my tv thru sharing on Apple TV
I am going to make it full screen so I won't be able to comment
I am off to pick up Kathy soon anyway
Thanks again for the link, Bob
HT
TTFN
It's 0-0 at the end of a boring first half, but United five up on agg. Inter one up vs Getafe
Steady, LASK do have a few chippy whippets but they're not formidable.
Ighalo is not a starting striker and you've got reinforcements on the bench. Oh, yeah, AND A 5 GOAL SURPLUS!!!.
Well, that wasn't the most inspiring half of football I've ever watched. Hopefully Ole will release the hounds a bit in the second half.
Where did you find the match on your Apple TV, Dave? I tried CBS Sports but couldn't find any Europa League on it.
Cheers Dave. Hope to chat with you soon
The second half is underway from OT
Agreed, Bob. Why not let the players enjoy themselves
Great points, Steve . Olly should those reasons to let United be more attack minded
Hope that United go for a bit more in this second half.
LASK counter after Lindy lost the ball due to being a ball hog
Ighalo forces a decent save from the keeper after nice United one touch passing. That's more like it
Oh - Ighalo wriggled his way through to a good shooting opportunity. But then blasted at the keeper.
The announcer said that the tie between Copenhagen and Basaksheir is unresolved. It has been. Copenhagen went through 3-1 on agg
LASK looks like they were doing indoor laps during the break. They have been gassed from the restart.
Basaksheir have decided they don't like the result and will be showing up for the next leg.
Agreed, Steve - United really be able to run up an aggregate scoreline in this second half. Williams had acres of space there to tee up both James and Lindy.
OH. Nice pass from Brandon Williams off a nice run and Lindy failed to connect for a tap in at the far post
So close that last move.
FM clears for a LASK corner
Sorry, David - LASK have pegged one back.
Ooof.
GOAL !!!LASK TAKE THE LEAD ON THE NIGHT WITH AN ABSOLUTE CRACKER.CORNER HEADED OUT AND THE ROCKET FROM 25 YARDS OUT LANDED IN THE UPPER 90
Nice hit from Mesenger but Sergio Romero looked a little bit like me trying to stretch for that one.
The same player from the same distance shoots just wide.
LASK have worried you lot for the last 5 minutes.
Comeback on???
Thanks, Bob and glad we won by five goals in the first leg
WAY HAY LINDY TIES OT UP FOR UNITED
GOAL! Lindy with a quick response just to snuff out any hope for the Austrians.
1-1 (6-1 on agg).
Weisinger , the LASK scorer, caught out by an innocuous long ball as Lindy got behind the defense and scored past the on rushing Schlager
Ramos has never impressed me. When he was at Alkmaar, we faced him in possibly his worst ever game. He batted an easy cross down straight to Nasri maybe, but the funnier of the goals he conceded was when Henry was found in space, he advanced and quite literally jumped out of the way of the King's placed shot. Say you're disappointed with De Gea if you must, but Ramos isn't the answer.
Alright, quick - how many Austrian sides can you name?
I've got Rapid Wien, Salzburg and now this lot. After that, I'm dry. Any others?
LOL, Steve. Interesting to see what will transpire if Basaksheir show up. Will they be told they will play LASK if they show up???
Lindy showed composure to beat their keeper and equalize. Happy for him. I hope he gets a chance to regain the form that made him so valuable for England.
Definitely not Romero. Weren't United fans clamoring for the recall of a young English keeper out on loan somewhere - Henderson or summit?
I can't think of any Austrian sides. Not really familiar with Austrian footie
Close range effort from Mata blocked then FM with a shot well over
Oh - Fosu Mensa should have hit the target there - always leaning back.
Clearly I'm not either - every time I try to stretch my brain, I come up with Swiss sides! Basel, for example.
Van Trapp Family Mountaineers.
Difficult Novice FC
The 16 Going on Seventeen XI
I'm hoping United give Henderson a chance. He spent the last two seasons on loan at the Evil Blades. Also , the Evil Blades must surely be favorites for relegation if he returns to OT
The Third Men.
Time for some changes, then. Goalscorer Lindy comes off replaced by Pogba. Fred's off too; Pereira on for him. Has he always been a bottle blond or that a new look?
Ha! Nice one, Steve. It's hard, in't it?
How about the Schwarznegger Arnies XI . Favorites to finish ahead of LASK and Salzburg?
Nice one Steve
"Sixteen Going on Seventeen" is my favorite tune in "Sound of Music," btw. The verse is incredible. Rodgers and Hammerstein at the height of their powers.
Hard, and pointless. They simply must concentrate on the Super G downhill, and leave the football to their cousins.
I think there was a team called Wolfsberger in the EL. I just remembered them
My Austrian friend Dani would not be amused; though, she probably couldn't come up with any either!
Wonder if Pogba and Perreira are even too fussed about this match
No drinkies /two minute timeout in the EL and CL
Wolfsberger does sound familiar. Given the weakness of the Austrian league, it probably would be easy for a moneybags (say, the Sausage King of Vienna) to bankroll a winning side like Red Bull have done for Salzburg.
All the more reason for them to concentrate on the Alpine events. Riding those deathtraps on ice to victory should be enough.
Bailey down for United, holding his head.
Well, it appears that Pereira at least got his hair done for the occasion!
I think I met Dani and her family during my last visit to Fred Town
Will that be Perreira's career after footie? May be sooner rather than later
I can't imagine how Alpine kids get started on those events. Do they have infant ski jumps where, if they fall on their faces, it's not fatal?
I've also got views on Chinese football that would probably not go down well with Guangyu (sp?). Stick to the platform diving.
Oh - LASK testing Romero again. Not sure if that was a save or off the post!
They have to be crazy to do those alpine sports. Do they have senior alpine competitions?
Tommy Chong on for Brandon Williams
True enough - they've got to get more height in the population in order to have any hope of competing on the international stage. Maybe they can kidnap a few Mongolians?
They made a big deal about that save from Romero, but it appeared to be a routine stop even for a L2 keeper
The goalscorer is coming off then. At least he'll always have the memory of having scored at OT.
The Nordic countries are the jumpers. The Austrians are the hurtelers down an ice covered cow pasture.
I think the jumpers do start out on a smaller platform. If memory serves, there's usually a smaller scale one right next to the one the Olympians ski off.
VAR checking for a penalty in the Inter vs Getafe match
I'm not sure how anyone goes down an Olympic sized ramp for the first time. My response would always be, "I'm not doing that!"
Nice plan, Bob. Thanks for the info , Steve.
A United shot is over by a Mata of meters
Getafe have a penalty at Inter
Getafe miss their spot kick and Inter still one up
Me too, Bob. Would never do that
Oh - Dan James nearly nipped in on the end of that great pass from Pogs.
No, that would amount to a marked lack of parental guidance.
But unlike you Bob, I've always fancied a go off one of those. If I could get just enough instruction so that I didn't cripple myself, it looks really thrilling. And most of the ones you see on the box don't hurt themselves. Probably safer than it look because they're falling parallel to the slope and not horizontally from height.
Inter aren't in any danger, are they?
Dan James wins a United corner
It's a one off match since the first leg was never played, so Inter sitting on a one goal lead
I just don't think I could look down the ramp and convince myself to go down it, even on my bum, let alone on skis. The only potentially dangerous Olympic sport I'd have a go at is the high board, but only feet first or maybe Cannonball style. Not sure I'd get any points from the East German judges.
Useless by Mata as LASK break. United win it back in their own half
