Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Here are the teams at the Riverside
The Bad Guys
Middlesbrough: Schwarzer, Young, Wheater, Pogatetz, Taylor, O'Neil, Boateng, Arca, Downing, Alves, Aliadiere.
Subs: Turnbull, Sanli, Cattermole, Johnson, Grounds.
Now the Good Guys
Man Utd: Van der Sar, O'Shea, Ferdinand, Brown, Evra, Ronaldo, Scholes, Carrick, Giggs, Tevez, Rooney.
Subs: Kuszczak, Hargreaves, Anderson, Park, Pique.
A strong team put out by SAF. I am happy about that.
Only Vidic missing.
And we're off.
I am following the text of the game and listening to up dates from talksport
I would love an early goal for United
O'Shea is playing in the center for Vidic
GOAL!!!
RONALDO!!!!!!!
ONE NIL TO THE UNITED!!!
More please
1344: Boro are at sixes and sevens. David Wheater makes a timely headed clearance.
COME ON UNITED, make it count
Boro having a few chances. Come on United, get another one please
Boro are getting more of the ball now.
I am nervous again
BUGGER
Boro have scored.
Their 12 million pound man Alves scores the goal. HE CAN'T SCORE ON AN OPEN GOAL LAST WEEK!!
We missed Vidic for that goal
VDS makes a great save.
COME ON UNITED!!!!
Good Morning Dave .
I would have joined you earlier but my laptop stopped working . I got it going again but it might stop at any time . Just been watching the Grand Prix . Ferrari 1 - 2 .
Half time.
It all started so well.
Fingers crossed for the second half!!!
Morning Tony,
Lewis Hamilton stunk it up!!!
Are you a fan of his or are you just a Ferrari fan?
Really it's only the red cars .
Let's go Lewis!!!
Nothing against Lewis but he doesn't drive a red car . Though I want him to do better than Alonso .
By the sounds of it, United should have had a pen in the first half.
Who would you like to win the other semi-final ?
The second half has just started
An important 45 minutes in the season.
I guess Barnsley.
Keep the Welsh out!!
I hope you have noticed that I have resisted saying "come on Boro " .
Let's hope SAF put some ummph into United
KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!!!
I don't know how you can want the BORING team to win the league
Touchy , touchy !
Dundee United have taken the lead against Rangers.
Both Glasgow teams lose on the same weekend. That can't have happened many times.
Yikes
1437: Pandemonium in the United box. Bodies everywhere, Carrick makes a crucial block. Signs of fragility.
Who told you I really wanted them to win the league ?
Rooney gets a yellow card. I hope he isn't loosing it!
BUGGGER
UNITED ARE LOSING
THAT PILLOCK HAS SCORED AGAIN!
I KNEW WE WOULD STRUGGLE TODAY!
What is going on ??? They should be
3 - 1 now .
COME ON UNITED!!!
Rangers have tied it up
Under 30 minutes to go
1452: The yellow ball is on at Boro as the snow falls. End-to-end, cracking match. Pure drama.
Morning, Dave. Sounds as if I've joined the conversation just in time to save United's season, eh?
Why do you lot always struggle with Boro?
Morning Bob,
I have no idea
Why does that plonker Alves score against United and he can't score an open goal last week.
Tevez is taking off for Park??
Football 365 says that Tevez has been disappointing.
Morning, Tony. You've got to be a happy chappy this morning. Advantage Chelski, I'd say.
Hargreaves on for O'shea
Shut it about advantage Chelski
Good Morning Bob .
I really can't comment about that .
From 365: "It is now snowing heavily at the Riverside and the referee has been forced to change the colour of the ball to yellow so the players and crowd can spot it."
Will United do better with a yellow ball?
Touchy, touchy, Dave.
Boateng is booked by the referee for a clumsy challange on Evra.
They do tend to do better when they change colours .
OH DEAR, it is all going pear shaped
Ferdinand limps off, Pique comes on. Remember, Vidic is already injured.
What's going on with your back four? It's like an epidemic!
This comment has been removed by the author.
Rio injured ??? Bad news !
Well done Dave !
YES!!!!
ROONEY!!!!!
COME ON, GET THE WINNER
Against the run of play but I'm sure you won't mind .
GOAL ROONEY! Park storms into the Middlesbrough box and plays the ball to Rooney on the edge of the home side's six-yard box. The Manchester United striker's effort is deflected past Schwarzer to level the scores.
Everton and Derby have kicked off.
Everyone keeping an eye on that one.
I actually want Everton to get close to Costa Del Pool
Rubbish about against the run of play.
Who said that? Five Live?
Back to a three point lead over Chelski and six point lead over the Arse.
Not much for Derby to play for at this point.
Southgate has taken off Alves.
Why?
When have Derby had anything to play for?
No it was Sky Sports news . One of your old boys . Also one of Bobs old boys as well .
Who?
Dundee Utd have taken the lead again.
Ten minutes to go at the Riverside
Perhaps because Alves is out of gas. Tuncay's not a bad person to put on for the last ten minutes or so.
Snow on the ground at Wembley?
Wee Gordon Strachan perhaps? He played for both of us.
Not telling . You have to guess .
Is it the same person?
If so, Gordon McQueen
Five minutes to get the winner... for the team in black!!
To quote the commentary from the 1999 European Cup Final
"Can United score? They always score"
Yeah, big Gordon, you stole him off us. Or how about King Eric? Mr. Kung Fu kick himself.
1515: Massive call by referee Mike Riley. A cynical clip by Gary O'Neil on Ronaldo is just outside the Boro area. Just.
No it was big Gordon .
Rangers have tied it up.
Rooney came close with a header
1514: "Come on United! Think Steve Bruce against Sheffield Wednesday!"
Confused.
Was it Gordon?
That makes sense. Gordon McQueen is often on that Soccer Saturday panel show with Jeff Stellings on Sky. Wish we got that one. And that show that Jimmy Hill used to host - apparently he got bumped off it for some unsavory comments.
Southgate and SAF having a go at each other on the sidelines
I said it was Gordon Mcqueen . He just said it has been a good game from both teams .
Four minutes of added time
At the same time I'm reasonably happy with the Soccer Sunday + wrap up show and the FFF on Monday nights. Decent coverage.
I know you don't like it but Sky Sports News is fantastic
United piling on the pressure
Into stoppage time at the Riverside.
Rangers are losing again.
I know you don't care but I am still keeping you up to date
Into the last minute of added time
Too much of the rugger and motor sport for my liking. But it's better than ESPN's Sportscenter - there's nothing on that for me.
Bloody Hell, Boro almost win it.
VDS saves United.
It is over.
Two points dropped
It really is mostly footer, you're wrong!!
Your goal difference still gives you the advantage .
I am worried about United's defense.
Rio and Vidic are out.
Roma and Arsenal next
Rangers have tied it up again
I have never said the title was won.
I was always worried about Boro.
Arsenal at home... tough
Blackburn away... tough
Chelsea away... nuff said
West Ham home.. bogey side
Wigan away... the pitch.
Boy you really are all doom and gloom aren't you Dave !
Chelski's right, it's still odds-on that you'll win it in the end due to your goal difference.
Are you lads sticking around for the Cup match? I'm going to Skype my parents for our usual Sunday chat but I'll be back if you're going to be around.
I think I'd better email Kathy and get her to hide all sharp things around the house .
I am around for the Cup.
I'm about all afternoon .
The managers weren't the best of friends after the match . Very frosty.
Everton are drawing with Derby at half
Fiorentina just scored an injury time goal to go to up.
They are still four points clear of AC Milan for the last Champions League place.
Rangers and Dundee Utd have drawn 3-3. They had a cracker of League Cup Final as well.
Here are the teams for Wembely
Barnsley
31 Steele
23 Van Homoet
16 Foster
18 Souza
05 Kozluk
20 Campbell-Ryce
02 Hassell
10 Howard
25 Devaney
09 Odejayi
13 Ferenczi
Cardiff
01 Enckelman
02 McNaughton
12 Johnson
06 Loovens
03 Capaldi
16 Ledley
04 Rae
10 McPhail
18 Sinclair
07 Whittingham
36 Hasselbaink
What ever happened to Robbie Fowler at Cardiff?
Wembley looking good.
Bugger, the TV is behind the radio
Here about Charlton Heston died
SAF says a draw was the fair result
oh dear Cardiff scored .
No I hadn't heard about Charlton Heston . I just read it on teletext .
Cardiff take the lead!!!1
The TV is over two minutes behind.
Great goal!!!
Why does FSC show these games two minutes behind the time!! I need to turn off the radio
At least you get the TV even if it is behind . I wouldn't complain if it was 10 mins behind .
Buy Sky!!!
Come on Barnsley, you were one down at Anfield!!
Sky is for rich people . Everton take the lead .
Everton have finally scored against Derby
I would have to get it if I was over there
Well if you get it for me then it will be here for you when you visit . Fair ???
Nope, I have Debs to watch!!
Right after the game Kathy and I have to go shopping for a birthday present for your nephew Matt. Can you believe he is going to be TWELVE!!
Steele almost coughs it up but Barnsley survive
Matt is too young to be 12 !
On 17 January it was announced that Fowler may miss the rest of the 2007-08 season for Cardiff after his hip operation revealed that the injury was worse than previously thought. Surgeons were forced to perform a micro-fracture in order for the hip to heal properly.
I'm back, lads. My folks say hi. They said that there was a light dusting of snow in London this morning but nothing stuck. Wembley is looking good.
I really don't remember hearing about that .
Barnsley go close.
The keeper comes for a corner and doesn't get to it. A shot is saved off the line.
Welcome back Bob
Did you see the goal?
A cracker
Matt's going to be 12! Now I really feel old and creaky. Blimey!
Yeah, it was a good 'un but I hate Cardiff.
We know!!
Risdale doesn't deserve it.
Hello Parky!!
At one point New England Revolution were in for Fowler but then he went to Cardiff instead. Shame.
Did you hear that TH-14 is in talks with the Seattle MLS team? That would be brilliant. More reason for Euro-snobs like you to watch, eh?
Welcome back Bob .
We have had the odd flurry of snow but none of it laid . And that only lasted about an hour .
I did hear that about TH
Ridsdale should've been locked up and had the key thrown away for what he did to us.
My folks said that the kids in the neighborhood were out trying to scoop a bit of snow up off car tops to chuck at each other. I can't believe you're getting snow in April. It's bloody 86F here today!
I think Matt is turning 12 just to make me feel old !
Come on Barnsley!
I was in England this time last year.
It was beautiful weather!!
Listen, my YOUNGEST will be TEN in May!!
Where have you gone, Jimmy Floyd, the Elland Road faithful turn their lonely eyes to you....woo woo woo....
Enough ! Thank you Dave .
Barnsley are giving it a go
By the way, Dave, I enjoyed your version of that old Dolly Parton number on American Idol this week. I never knew that you played guitar. Well done, lad. Have a look:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=gMuwfVSucQs
Looks nothing like me
I can't believe Barnsley are in the drop zone in the Championship. They don't look half bad.
Oh, you know it does - give over!
What do you reckon, Tony?
I can see the resemblance . Though he is a lot younger than Dave . Ha Ha .
Don't you start bruv
Nice one, Tone. Wait a minute - you did take guitar at LHS, if memory serves. This is all starting to make sense.
Not a great free kick from Barsnley there
I can play some guitar. Only the classical stuff I learned at LHS
Was that a handball?
Half time at Wemberlee
I used to give Dave guitar lessons at home as well . I know he could have played if he wanted to . So he must have carried it on in secret .
Everton win .
Derby lose... there's a shocker!!
And we're off again at Wembley
I always prefer the teams attacking their own supporters. That is what we have in the second half
What is this, a substitution within two minutes of the half.
Will Derby beat the 15 point mark or become the worst ever side in the Premiership?
Was that a pen?
Dave , why haven't you got Debs on here today ?
London public trying to extinguish the Olympic flame... all crazy on the streets of London
She doesn't follow the footer except if I force her
She is a secret follower . She knows more than you think she does .
Nice header but well saved by Steele
She was rooting for the team in red this morning for a little while until the penny dropped
Yeah, we should have Debby on the LOB, even though she wasn't at Lakenheath, isn't as old as the rest of us, and....isn't a boy.
We can make exceptions, right?
I don't know, you're right... she is not a boy and not a Lakenheath grad.
Be off with her!!!
Mind yourself DAVID !
I'd like to see Enkelmann let one slip under his foot again. One of the greatest own goals of all time!
That was the Villa Brum game, right?
The best was Gary Sprake throwing the ball into his own net .
I remember that.
For Leeds, right?
Yeah, that is a classic own goal too. I'll see if I can find it.
WHAT A MISS!!!!
The commentator thought it was in!!
No Sprake own goal on YouTube, unfortunately. But I did find this:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=lOmaCuQ7jpw
Supah, supah Leeds!
What a sitter for Odajaye! Each of your kids would've stuck that one in, right Dave?
Odajaye should have dropped the shoulder, jinked inside and stuck it away with his left peg.
I turned the video off after 20 seconds
This is a classic OG
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiCzXpiDcqY
That was close.
COME ON BARNSLEY
Debbie is whining to me about me picking on her.
She thanks you two for being on her side!!
Another one on one missed. This time from Cardiff
Hi Debs .
You can always email me if you don't want HIM to read it .
Hi Debs!
That was a classic Lee Dixon own goal. Thanks, Dave. I seem to remember another one from the 70s where a player (maybe for Everton?) dribbles the ball into his own net and there's a ball-boy behind the goal leaping up and down and having a go at him. Do you remember that?
I can't see Barnsley digging this one out now.
Harry Redknapp in Europe - that should be a larf.
Sprake like goal
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FOJpGMInUo
I agree, I think it is over.
Under ten to go
Excellent! You found it. It's as good as I remember. The odd thing is how he just kind of trots back to pick the ball out of the net. There's no desperate lunge to get it back. What a wally. I always preferred David Harvey.
If Cardiff win, I want POMPEY to wear blue in the Final
Sky news showing some Barnsley fans already leaving the ground .
No, I didn't find the Sprake goal but one just like it
Hasselbaink hassling Hassel there.
Weird. It looked just like it.
I really wanted a classic Red v Blue final .
