Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Au Revoir, JB!

Jermaine Beckford finally agreed to terms with Everton and will become a Toffee next season. Of course, the backroom staff had expected this move from the beginning of last season and have already replaced Beckford with Swindon striker Billy Paynter. So, no regrets - Jermaine's goals got us promotion this season - off we go into the next chapter of the club's history. Thanks for the memories, JB!

I'll be interested in seeing whether he's capable of this big a step up in quality. He'll have the support of Bilyaletdinov, Pienaar, Arteta, and Cahill amongst others which is a pretty useful platform.

I'm sorry it's a free because Leeds could have used that income, but his goals to get you back to the second division were critical and worth a lot of cash.

The other bit of LOB transfer news is that Hitzelspeger is off to West Ham. That's an excellent piece of business in my opinion. He's got one of the most accurate crosses from a free kick of any current footballer, and the sweetest strike on goal since Paul Scholes in his pomp. Johnno should be blowing bubbles over this news.

I don't think JB will be missed as much as he would have been. Leeds did fine without him.
I am pleased that JB went to the Prem and not to the Championship where he would have been with Leeds anyway

Good point UWS, it's always hard to lose someone on a free who is likely to show up again and score upon you.

Well, JB was always going to be on the off on a Bosman as he was out of contract this summer. I agree with UWS - the last thing we needed next season was to face him playing for an opponent with something to prove.

I don't he's going to be elbowing Saha, the Hair Bear or the Yak out of the way at Everton. He'll have to bide his time and probably wait to make an impression when injuries and suspensions take their toll.

My thought of him going to the Prem and not to the Championship was not because they would have to face him but that you don't take a step up from Leeds unless you are in a higher division.
Leeds are bigger than any other team in the Championship... why go anywhere esle?

I appreciate the sentiment, but I think that our main goal for the next season (or maybe two) is survival and consolidation in the Championship. Making the jump to the Prem at this stage would require the kind of cash lay-out that the club couldn't sustain.

I wish Beckford the best. Is he ready to make the jump to the Premier League? He will play some Carling Cup games and make a few substitute appearances. He will definitely have to bide his time? As mentioned, Leeds could have used the money from a huge transfer feee, but he went for free on a Bosman. In the long run would he have been better off staying with Leeds/ Only time will tell.
