Carling Cup Third Round Live!
The big boys enter the Carling Cup today, which means that the kids will get a run out for a change. There's no question about the big match of the afternoon - Arsenal's trip to their arch-rivals Spurs at White Hart Lane. Unfortunately, my Leeds boys were dumped out by Leicester in Round 2, so I'll be a neutral today just living vicariously through the other sides in the tournament. Join me if you're around.

The team news is in for the big one today. Spurs with 10 changes and 8 changes for Arsenal. Relatively speaking it's a very strong Arsenal side that Arsene is putting out:
Tottenham (4-4-2) Pletikosa, Naughton, Bassong, Caulker, Livermore; Bentley, Palacios, Sandro, Assou-Ekotto; Pavlyuchenko, Giovani.
Subs: Cudicini, Hutton, Huddlestone, Lennon, Jenas, Keane, Kranjcar.
Arsenal (4-2-3-1) Fabianski; Eboue, Koscielny, Djourou, Gibbs;
Denilson, Wilshere; Lansbury, Nasri, Rosicky; Vela.
Subs: Almunia, Sagna, Clichy, Arshavin, Chamakh, Eastmond, Emmanuel-Thomas.
If you're looking at the Arsenal side, only Lansbury is someone who wouldn't typically get a Premiership run out. Otherwise, it's just a matter of juggling the starting squad in order to avoid injury. And if they're in a spot of bother, there's always Arshavin and Chamakh on the bench ready to come on.
Spurs, on the other hand, are running out a side that you wouldn't think can compete with Arsenal at their best. Does Harry really think that he and his side have better options for silverware this season than the Carling Cup? He's having a laugh if he is thinking that.
Kick-off time!
Our second-round conquerors Leicester have scored early against hapless Pompey at Fratton Park.
Burnley have hit the bar but it's still 0-0 Burnley v. Bolton.
Kanu has nearly equalized for Pompey. Quite a cracker going on down at the south coast.
David Moyes has made five starts from the side that lost on Saturday and it's paid off. The Toffees are 0-1 up at Brentford.
Wow - terrific, clear link for Spurs v. Arsenal on Veetle:
http://www.veetle.com/index.php/channel/view#4c909cdc2598b
Scott Sinclair has scored for Swansea early doors.
It's 1-1 at London Road now between Posh and Swansea.
Very tentative so far between Spurs and Arsenal. Carlos Vela had one speculative effort from distance but other than that, just a lot of dinking it about in midfield.
Pavs is taken down by a clumsy challenge by Djourou.
Poor free kick by Bentley, hoofed over the bar from a tight angle. He is a waster.
Danny Murphy and Matthew Etherington have both gone into the book - Stoke v. Fulham.
Denilson with a lovely run and he nearly slips Vela in, then has a strike at goal. A bit more lively now at the Lane.
Lee Probert turns down an Arsenal penalty appeal at White Hart Lane. Looks like Kieran Gibbs went down very easily.
GOAL! Lansbury puts the Gunners in front after a great driving run from Wilshere and cross from Rosicky. Lansbury only had to tap it in. Lovely goal.
0-1 Arsenal!
Total midfield dominance now from the team in red.
I'm off for my meeting. Hope to be back for most of the second half.
Hey Bob,
I am here as you leave. I will have to go to the boys' games at 4 ish

I'm back at the death with Spurs at 1-1 with Arsenal, not a result that either side would have wanted. I do believe that this one will go to extra time, right?
Arsenal free kick here in stoppage time. Oh - the keeper completely missed it but Chamakh couldn't tidy up.
Brum are cruising to victory over the Dons 3-1.
Brentford have drawn with Everton 1-1.
Burnley are 1-0 over Bolton
Ipswich are 2-1 up at Millwall.
Swansea are 3-1 up at Peterboro.
Leicester are 2-1 up at Pompey.
Stoke are 2-0 up over Fulham.
West Ham have beaten Sunderland 2-1 away.
And Wolves are 1-1 with Notts Co.
It was Robbie Keane with the Spurs equalizer off the bench in the second half.
Wallop! Arsenal have prevailed 1-4 tonight and will have North London bragging rights until the two sides meet again. Despite some typically loose handling from Flappihandski, twp pens from Nasri and a late goal from Arshavin put the Gunners through.
In one of the shockers of the night, wee Brentford have beaten Everton 4-3 on penalties to advance. David Moyes rotten start continues.
That's it from me this evening. Over and out!
It's another big day in the Carling Cup today but unfortunately another big day here at Fredonia for me. I've got two classes and several meetings, so it'll be easily 10:30 before I stagger home.

This is United's line up... not too bad
Man Utd: Kuszczak, Brown, Ferdinand, Smalling, Rafael Da Silva, Park, Anderson, Gibson, Hernandez, Owen, Macheda.
Subs: Van der Sar, O'Shea, Obertan, De Laet, Corry Evans, Bebe, Eikrem.
Macheda should have put a header on target.

Cricket update
England really want to win the fifth and series decider against cheating Pakistan. They made it worse by implying that England cheated.
England 256 for 6 after their 50 overs

Looking good
Goal at the Bridge
Newcastle have extended their lead! Ameobi with Newcastle's third... 1-3

LOVELY JUBBLEY
Wigan tie it up at home to Preston
Bugger... Anelka ties it up for Chelsea from the spot
Chelsea goal: Don't forget, they are playing with 10 men - but the Blues are level. It's a soft penalty as Alex goes down under a challenge from Mike Williamson, but Nicolas Anelka, without any run up or care in the world at all, knocks in his penalty like it's a 5-a-side game.
Scunny get a late consolation goal
2-5... another late late goal conceded
Wigan take the lead over Preston
BBC Radio 5 live's Jan Molby: "Since the Northampton goal, they have been all over Liverpool, putting them under all sorts of pressure. They are the better team at the moment, I cannot believe it."

Chelsea fielded less a bunch of reserves than a side full of their stockpiled first teamers. And they lost. Excellent!

I picked Citeh to win the Carling Cup too. I know that does not help me in the standings, but I don't mind seeing them lose. I know that most of the EPL teams field reserve sides in this competition, but I was really surprised to see Liverpool lose to Northampton at Anfield ,Everton lose to Brentford, and Chelski lose at home to Newcastle.
Yes - it was truly an apocalypse for our Carling Cup hopes this week. Given that Chelski, Citeh, Everton, Fulham and Spurs were all knocked out this week, there are only two of us left with dogs in the hunt - Thomas and WHR - both of whom picked ManYoo.
