Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

What the Hell is Going on with Roon?

We all had a good giggle at Liverpool's expense last week; it appears that ManYoo are in that role this week. The tabs are aflutter today with rumors about Wayne Rooney wanting away. The Football Weekly pod lads posted not one but two editions today, the latest dealing exclusively with the Rooney story. They speculate that Rooney and Fergie's relationship is damaged beyond repair and that he might even countenance a move to (gulp!) Manchester City! What say you, Red Devilers?

Bloody hell, lads. I thought I'd wake up to a lively discussion on the Roon issue. Nothing? I'll tell you what - I'd be foaming at the mouth if Jonny Howson wanted out of Elland Road - let alone Wayne bloody Rooney. Are you all hibernating?

In any case, there is sensational news today. Fergie has confirmed in a presser this morning that Rooney wants to leave but added that his transfer request was on AUGUST 13th! Correct me if I'm wrong, but that predates the whole "playing away from home" tabloids exclusives, right? What's going on in this kid's head - does he really think that he can find Lob Scouse in Madrid?

Rooney doesn't strike me as a modern footballer at all which to my mind should eliminate him from consideration by any foreign team in a big league. Can anyone seriously see him settling anywhere where English isn't the local lingo? I was surprised when he went to Manchester because I didn't think he'd adapt to a Lancashire dialect of English.

I just wonder if now is the time for Rooney to stay at United, but Fergie to go. Something hasn't been right at United for several seasons, and Bob reminded me that the year that Ferg threw a strop and got rid of Vanhorseyface, that was the year that Chelsea finally broke through and won something. Any of the kids still playing who Ferg brought through are at the end of their careers, and of the players considered in the first team, isn't it only Darron Gibson and possibly Jonny Evans that are academy products? Ferg's done well enough in the transfer market, but most of his success isn't based on his eye for a transfer.

United can ill afford to have a successful Rooney playing somewhere else, especially at a rival. It'll just showcase how far off the top two of Chelsea and Citeh they are at the moment. Likewise, Rooney, the feral savant can ill afford to move somewhere in Europe where they'll insist on a professional outlook he simply can't take on board.

I know I've thought it, haven't you? That Rooney might end up down the same path as Gazza? Leaving United would be step one down that path. It's just a shame that he's so isolated that there's no-one who can advise him that he'd listen to.

I am gobmacked!

United don't share his ambitions????

United were a point away from wining the League for an unprecedented fourth time in a row!
United were an away goal from Bayern away from going to a third straight European Cup Final!

What do you want Wayne?
Your form from March onwards for United and England hasn't shown much ambition.

I don' t know what else to say!

I don't get it either, Dave. I have to think that we're missing large parts of this story because they just don't add up. Rooney loss of form dates back to the first incidence of his rolling his ankle. Why he thinks it's a good policy to put himself in the shop window when he hasn't been able to trap a bag of sand in six months is anyone's guess. Hope it works out for you lot one way or another. I hate to think that we're going to be left with a Big Two!

Following today's developments, both Rooney and Ferg stay. Probably should wait to comment until all facts are known.
