Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

I'm back for the Brummie derby, looking forward to a super day. We've got several interesting matches at 10 am, including Arsenal v. Sunderland. That includes a full slate of Championship matches including a big Yorkshire Derby between my beloved Leeds and Doncaster Rovers. And the late one is an intriguing fixture that see high-flying Citeh hosting lowly Wigan. With around ten fixtures to go in the season, it's all crucial.
The team news is in for the first match at St. Andrews:
Brum: Foster, Carr, Johnson, Davies, Ridgewell, Beausejour, Fahey, Bowyer, Bently, Jerome, Martins.
Subs: Doyle, Murphy, Larsson, Phillips, Zigic, Parnaby, Mutch.
WBA: Carson, Reid, Olsson, Meite, Shorey, Brunt, Mulumbu, Scharner, Thomas, Morrison, Fortune.
Subs: Myhill, Tchoyi, Vela, Odemwinge, Tamas, Cox, Jara.
Referee: Mike Jones
I just tried the P2P link for "Football Focus," but no luck. It's only watchable in the UK. Shame.
The Deuce has shifted from the usual scary deer-hunting programming to some kind of attempt at a humor show along the lines of "America's Funniest Sports Videos," albeit cruder.
Here we go then. The preview show for the Brummie derby. Lovely.
Marvelous - It's Ian Drury and Macca at pitch side at St. Andrews. The coverage these days is just phenomenal.
Brum come into the match at 16th on 30 points from 26 matches. West Brom have played two more but are only a point behind. They've got inferior GD though - -17 to Brum's -10.
WBA get us underway at St. Andrews, looking a bit like England away with their red away kit.
Kick-off hasn't changed much for either side - just adding a point for both of them. WBA would leapfrog Brum with a win, though. And Brum would leapfrog both Blackpool and Blackburn into 14th with a win.
Good morning BD. I will be here until early in the second half when I have to bugger off to present at an AP prep session. How is the new laptop?
Morrison sticks a nice chip over and Chris Brunt manages to get his header on target. No power in it.
THis seems like a losers bowl local derby.
Morning, MUR - I can't tell you how wonderful the new laptop is. The old one had become really fragile so I always had to worry about it. And it couldn't do things like stream certain videos, use Netflix or Skype. This one can do the lot.
Hope you're doing well.
It is very much the loser's bowl. The only thing that adds to the intrigue is Brum's Cup heroics. They're coming off the improbable Carling Cup win last weekend and have an FA Cup Quarterfinal match next weekend. Will they start to drop off in their league form as a consequence?
How often do you do the AP prep?
I would have to favor Brum in this match as they are the better organized team. Brum will be in the Europa League as a result of their Carling Cup win.
This will be my first time presenting . I am a little nervous.
Alex McLeish made six changes to the Wembley side for today, which indicates that he's got an eye on next weekend's Cup fixture.
How was your week?Hope it was a great week.
I'm sure that you'll be a hit today. It's a usual side-line. I did lots of SAT, GRE, GMAT and LSAT prep in my day.
WBA have played more long ball since Woy became their manager.
Yeah - I had a good teaching week and then I had a research meeting at Buffalo State yesterday, which was a good excuse to hit the Apple store, along with my favorite Chinese grocery.
Thank you very much, BD.I will be presenting Statistics topics such as confidence intervals, means , and proportions.
Buffalo is a big city, so there must be many things to keep a person busy in when visiting Buffalo.
Ouch - I was rotten at Statistics. I took one course as an undergrad and another in my doctoral experience. There were plenty of evenings in the latter when I was completely lost. I could have used you in my study group.
Exactly - Buffalo is "the Big City" around here so I try to take advantage when I get up there. I'll often hit my favorite Indian buffet, my favorite indie movie theatre, bookshop, Chinese grocery and so on.
I will be happy to help you if you need any help.
The nearest "big Cities" to Harlingen are San Antonio, which is a four hour drive, and Houston , which is a five hour drive.
Jon Champion stated that Edson Buddle had a trial with one of these two teams , but failed.
Thanks - I may take you up on that. My research is entirely qualitative, partially in order to avoid crunching the numbers but mostly because that model fits my interests. But I may well be tapped to teach an Intro to Research Methods course next year, which would mean representing both Qual and Quant.
If Brum, Wolves, and WBA get relegated, then three Birmingham area teams will be relegated. I wonder if three local teams have been relegated in the same season. I have known of two.
That's a shame. A lot of American players have tried and failed in Europe recently. For every Clint Dempsey there are ten Eddie Davies. Speaking of which, Charlie Davies is the new "star" for D.C. United in the upcoming year. Gooner is excited but it represents his failure to recover his form after his injury.
The free kick from Bentley is headed clear by Meite, then Fahey blasts over from long range.
I don't remember all three having been relegated. My dad is always big on the representation of teams in the Premiership. His ideal is to have a team from East Anglia, a team from the south coast, a team from Wales, a team from West Yorkshire, a team from Cumbria and so on in the Premiership.
Fortune is flagged offside for WBA.
That sounds like a great idea, but I don't see every region being represented in the same season. We have come close a few times.
I have a feeling Brum will survive because they have a better defense then their fellow strugglers.
That is the thing about Texas - it is so huge that you can probably drive ten hours and still be in Texas, right? Within two hours of here, I can hit not only Buffalo but Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Toronto, Rochester, and Erie. Expand that to four hours and you can include Columbus, Syracuse, and Detroit.
I am sure Gooner will be happy to see Charlie Davies at C United. He will be a good addition. Gooner an I have had some interesting banter once our quarterfinal match became official.
I agree - if I had to guess today, I'd pick West Ham, Wolves and Wigan for the drop. Three "W"s. I can't feel sad for West Ham, despite WHR's presence - they were rubbish last season and barely survived and there they are again.
Scharner is down injured. I thought Roger Johnson was going for the ball.
Jerome picks off a pass and tries a quick one from distance. Didn't quite get it right.
Actually , the Hammers will probably end up with more points than last season even if they are relegated. This means that Avram is a better manager than Zola.
You are correct about Texas. El Paso is a fourteen hour drive. The quickest route to leave Texas from Harlingen takes eight hours.
Despite living in London, my dad thinks that the capital is over-represented: Arsenal, Spurs, Chelski, Fulham, and West Ham. QPR is likely to be added next season. Of course, at 87 it's been a long time since he went to a live match. He's much happier watching at home these days.
You have a fantastic proximity to many cities. You seem to be in a great location.
So how often do you head to San Antonio? I'd love to go some day - I've only ever been to Dallas and Houston. Would love to tour the Alamo, of course.
It is - of course, a lot of it is "Rust Belt," so cities such as Erie, PA and Detroit (and even Buffalo) have definitely seen better days. Cities such as Pittsburgh and Columbus are coming back slightly, though.
The capital is heavily represented because that is where the money is and many great players want to be in London.
I go to San Antonio once or twice a year. The Alamo is always crowded with tourists. There is a lot of sight seeing available.
What do you bet that our friend UWS is tucked up in bed watching the match? I tried to Skype him earlier to test out my new laptop but got no response from his end.
Fantastic counter by Jerome Thomas, but Brunt blasts well over.
I think you are correct BD. I have difficulty getting out of bed some mornings.
Should Zigic start for Brum as he is on a scoring run. Jerome has not scored in ages. Why does he start?
Oh - Jerome nearly finds the net with a cute header.
Jerome heads just wide as I was criticizing him .
I'm assuming that Alex McLeish is saving Zigic for the Cup match next weekend. He made six changes today. That's the problem with Cup runs - they can be distractions.
A great cross from Martins and a tame volley from Jerome.
This match desperately needs a goal to open it up.
I believe you are correct,BD. I have a feeling Brum will defeat Bolton next weekend.
I've just sent you a Skype confirmation for this account, btw.
Brum are starting to take control of this match. They seem the more likely team to score.
The Arsenal v. United quarterfinal clears the path for several sides.
I will check that confirmation . Probably in the afternoon once I get home from the prep session.
Gooner claims Smalling and Brown are a weak defensive pairing. As if Kos and Squillachi are world beaters. Are we looking at a 5-5 draw in this encounter?
Poor cross from WBA after some decent possession.
There is one minute of stoppage time.
It has been a poor half from both teams. as it is 0-0 at halftime.
Half-time, then. UWS has finally woken up, the lazy sod.
Guilty as charged
Welcome, UWS!
Enjoy your prep class... geek!
GOAL! Molumbu has nipped in to open the scoring. I didn't see that coming.
GOAL! Beausejour has nipped in to knock home a terrific Banjo Boy.
1-1 Game on!
And Beausejour makes it 1-1 with a great finish. I will bigger off in a few minutes.
And now Banjo has gone into the book. He always has been a naughty boy.
Now Scahrner and Ridgewell go in the book for wrestling.
Its time to bugger off lads. I will chat tomorrow. I will check your skype message this afternoon.
Will you be back for the late match, MUR? If not - we'll look for you for the biggie tomorrow morning. Very early for you - 7:30 am.
James Morrison with a wonder strike there for 2-1!
What a miss by Odemwinge - that would have settled it.
GOAL! Scharner bundles what must be the winner. 1-3!
The Cup curse is coming to Brum.
In the end, I'm wondering if Alex McLeish would prefer a league win today over that Cup win last weekend?
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/mar/01/ryan-giggs-team-mates-manchester-united
Impressive.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1361761/Ryan-Giggs-celebrates-20-years-playing-Manchester-United-goals.html
Banjo tries a pop and it's deflected. Could have gone anywhere.
Jon Champion with the vocabulary - "soporific." Well done, mate.

Talk to you later
You went to walk the dog so I buggered off. Are you back?
I didn't go walk the dog... I took the vacuum to Kath
I am back but am running around so I will comment now and again
FSC are right on time with the kick-off from the Emirates.
Enjoy the match, mate!
Kick off time in the Championship too!
Come on, you Whites!
Apparently, the match at the Em started early
Struth - Sunderland had an early chance there!
Sunderland almost score the opening goal... come on u Mackuns
I need a QPR win against Leicester, please. Also would love Palace to nick some points off Burnley. I'm worried about them, since they have two matches in hand on us.
Burnley take the lead against Palace
Bloody hell - Burnley are 1-0 up early doors. I didn't need that!
Burnley now up to 7th, two points behind us but with two matches in hand and better GD. I'm worried.
We need a win - come on!
Oh - apparently Gradel and Johnson have come close so far.
Michael Jacobs with a cracker - boom boom!
Sunderland are giving it a go here. Phil Bardsley with a pop there just wide.
I would luv it if Sunderland get something today. I would luv it!
Pompey only drawing but have won 5 straight and a sixth would mean they could go up to 8th...nervous?
YES!
LEEDS TAKE THE LEAD
YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!
Max making wax with an opener. His 13th of the season.
1-0!
Gradel
Who hasn't won since 2008 when kicking off at 3 on Saturday?
I think it's PNE - isn't that where young Fergie was?
Plymouth, after going into administration, take the lead at Hillsboro
No, it was said as they went to Newcastle Everton
Reading are a goal up - they're also not a million miles away from the playoff zone.
Young Fergie was fired from there and has gone to Peterboro and are going strong
After the firing, SAF brought back all his loanees at Deepdale
Bent scores for Villa at Bolton
Reading take the lead against Boro
Why can't Bolton be relegated?
Bristol City lead at Coventry.
There's been a goal in the Prem...at Upton Park.. for the HOSTS!!!
1-0 West Ham
Disastrous goal from a Stoke perspective, according to Charlie. West Ham are 1-0 up.
It'll be great to see Gus Poyet's Brighton up in the Championship next season.
Le Tiss shouts "1-0!" Best scores for the Magpies. Newcastle up.
COME ON YOU SUNDERLAND!!!
You know how people think of the big team in the Northeast is Newcastle, well... Sunderland have won a big trophy, the FA Cup in '73(against who?) and won the league more recently than the Toon!
The Toon do take the lead against Everton
Way hay! Pompey are 1-0 up on the Blades.
Titus Bramble is just about keeping the Arsenal front line out.
GOAL at Coventry - Bristol City are 0-2 up now.
Charlie is yelling again. West Ham are 2-0 up now - Da Costa!
West Ham are two up!!!
Well done Hammers!!
Boro have tied it up at Reading
Where are West Ham now in relation to relegation?
Sotton have taken the lead at Colchester
Boro have pegged Reading back to 1-1. Leroy Lita.
Midweek was rotten for me... let's have the exact opposite this week
Another goal in the prem... somewhere... Everton have tied it up... Arteta
Merse is yelling again. Is it my new laptop or are they yelling more today than usual?
1-1 Newcastle v. Everton.
COME ON SUNDERLAND.... have I said that already?
Plymouth are two up.
They may be yelling because you have a new laptop!
West Ham are out of the zone as I type
Bottom Six
Blackpool 32
WBA 32
WH 31
Brum 30
Wolves 28
Wigan 27
Oh - great run for Samir Nasri weaving through the area but he couldn't get through the stolid Sunderland backline for the pull-back.
Apparently, Villa rested a lot of players for the Cup... I HATE IT!
Don't you want to win a TROPHY!!!
Reading retake the lead against Boro
Old boy Ian Harte has put Reading back in the lead.
Ian Harte is still playing????
Everton are 2-1 up - Jags with the finish from Baines' cross.
Yeah - he's on loan from Carlisle to Reading. He still scores boatloads, mostly from free kicks and pens.
Everton take the lead.. Jags
Fulham have take the lead against Bburn
Goals everywhere but the match on the Box
True - that often happens for FSC.
Long may it continue today!
Nice shot by Bendtner... nice save
Oh - Bendtner should have scored. He had a hat-trick in mid-week against Orient. Well saved.
I don't mind it being a two horse race between United and Arsenal... I REALLY REALLY REALLY don't want Chelsea to think they have a chance for the title
I've had it .... I am going to search for the fusion pro challenge!!
I don't see that happening. Citeh and Chelski are really in a battle for that fourth CL slot more than in the title race.
What's the Fusion Pro Challenge?
Nearly half time then. Still 0-0 at the Emirates. You'll be happy with that, right? Gooner - not so much.
Celtic have taken the lead against the Academicals!!!
Matt just told me that CNN just showed a highlight of a game in Argentina... there was a huge brawl and THRITY-SIX red cards were shown!!!
Of course, soccer is in the news for stupid things like this!!
It is no luck with the Pro Challenge. It is the commercial where they guess the ground
Fulham are 1-0 up over Blackburn.
A goal at the Cottage... 1-1
Is that Merse scoring again. No - it's Le Tiss. Blackburn have equalized!
Bristol City are three up at Coventry
Bolton have tied it up
uh oh... so have Doncaster!!
Leeds have missed a lot of chances and give away a last minute equalizer!
BUGGGGGGGER! Our defense letting us down again. It's 1-1 at Elland Road.
Not happy.
Half time at the Em... long may it continue!!
Off to shower and shave
Bristol City are now 0-3 up at Coventry. Half time at the Emirates.
West Ham! West Ham! United are the greatest team!
No need to shave on the weekend, Dave . . .
I agree with you, Lauri - but what would you know about shaving?
Boom boom!
Welcome, Johnno - looking forward to seeing you in April.
Good to see that your Happy Hammers are doing well today. Out of the relegation zone for the first time in yonks.
Sunderland get us underway in the second half at the Emirates.
Come on, Luciano - we need a hat-trick from you in the second half. No slip - ups - we need three points.
Jeff refuses to give up on the Jacob's crackers puns.
BUGGGGERRRRRR!
We're 1-2 down now! I'm changing my shirt now. The Becchio shirt is going on.
Way hay - I didn't even have a chance to change.
2-2! We're back!
I'm back
Miss anything?
I've got the Becchio shirt on now. I want at least a brace from El Torrero.
Yeah - two goals at Elland Road. It's 2-2 now. And I've changed my shirt.
Morning Johnno.. or Lauri
Usually that is the case but I have to pick up a friend from the airport and go to a Hall of Fame ceremony for him this evening
You've got to love this match at the Emirates. They don't look close to winning this one.
Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown?
Reading are 4-1 up now; Ian Harte has scored two and laid on one. We could use that!
This is the shirt you should wear!!
/var/folders/sn/snLFckExHFCszKQqiKPFU++++TI/-Tmp-/com.apple.PhotoBooth-T0xa0fdb0.tmp.ykeaPV/Photo 408.jpg
I have no idea if that will work!
Watford have taken the lead against Millwall. I like that.
Coventry are starting the long come-back against Bristol City. 1-3 there.
The link didn't work.
There's a goal at the Cottage... to the hosts
Matt is yelling. Fulham have scored. 2-1 up over Blackburn now.
We cannot afford to drop points to bloody Doncaster, especially at home.
Come on!
DIdn't think it would
Leicester are having a real go against league leaders QPR.
Still scoreless at Loftus Road... surely you want QPR to win that one
Norwich are losing at home to Preston!
WOW - Preston have taken the lead against Norwich. Loving it!
What was the shirt?
Where did you go, mate? I was going to show off the shirt!
Bugger! Norwich are back in it. Grant Holt has equalized.
Love to see it stay the same at Em
Norwich tie it up quickly
Just missed your call...
Arse Shaven should have scored
Villa have scored
