Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Footie Trivia of the Week

It's been a long stretch since our last trivia question but with our 5th anniversary looming this weekend, I thought it was high time to revisit the Trivia Corner. Here's one that I got from the Guardian pod this week:

"There is only one footballer who has ever played international football for his country in four different decades. Who is he?" (Hint: he is still currently playing)

Good luck, chaps!

Is it Ryan Giggs for the 4 times he didn't cry off sick for Wales?

Giggsy is a good shout but he was born just a wee bit too late so his Welsh debut was in 1990 and then he retired from international play in 2007, so believe it or not, Giggsy only played internationally during two decades.

Which makes this footballer all the more incredible. I'll spell it out for you - he played in the 80s, 90s, the Noughties and now in the Teenies.

Oh - one more clue for you. He's also played for clubs sides in England, Germany, Holland and Spain as well as in his home country (that would give away too much). Talk about a journeyman, eh?!

I believe it is Jari Litmanen. The only criticism that I have for this great professional is that he played for Liverpool. Otherwise, pure class!

Spot on, David. Well in there. It is indeed Jari Litmanen who made his debut for Finland way back in 1989 when I was barely out of college and is currently co-captain of the national side at the spry age of 40. I doff my cap to him.
