Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

This match is such an after-thought that I've just realized that I didn't even include it in the PPP game this season. Predicting the winner would be almost impossible given the byzantine nature of the tournament but surely it's worth 5 points or so.
Here's the team news out of Dublin tonight:
Porto: Helton; Sapunaru, Rolando, Otamendi, Alvaro Pereira; Guarin, Fernando, Moutinho; Hulk, Falcao, Varela.
Subs: Beto, Maicon, Belluschi, Walter, Rodriguez, Souza, Ruben Michel
Braga: Artur; Miguel Garcia, Paulao, Alberto Rodriguez, Silvio; Custodio, Hugo Viana, Vandinho; Alan, Lima, Paulo Cesar.
Subs: Cristiano, Kaka, Mossoro, Barbos, Meyong, Elderson, Salino
Ref: C V Carballo (Spain)
This looks like a pretty good stream for the match:

It's former Liverpool great Ronny Whelan bringing the huge Europa League trophy out for display now.
And we're underway....
First chance goes to Braga. Very much Route 1 stuff from them. But it was a big chance there for Custodio, which he spooned wide.
I wonder how many Premiership managers will be eyeing these players with a nod toward summer signings. The Porto front-pairing, Brazilians Hulk and Falcao, might be the most obvious ones.
A bit of handbags in midfield but it's broken up fairly easily.
Oh - Hulk did really well there down the right, skinned a couple of defenders and then was well wide from an acute angle. He was a trifle greedy there in the end.
Braga appear to have settled better than Porto and are enjoying some good possession.
The half hour mark arrives and it's still 0-0. Very cagey with precious few chances.
Silvio picks up a yellow card for going through the back of Hulk. Nasty.
Good afternoon,BD. I will briefly join you before my last class begins.
I see it is still 0-0 as Braga look like Arsenal except for one major difference. THEY ARE IN A EUROPEAN FINAL!
I wasn't going to watch this match because I am really disappointed with the performance of EPL teams in this competition.
It is still 0-0 with five minutes remaining in the first half.
Hulk commits a foul just outside the box.
Actually , Hulk won a free kick.
GOAL! Terrific headed finish from Falcao. It had to be him - he's been the star of the tournament this season. He was relatively unmarked and made Braga pay.
1-0!
GOAL!!! pORTO HAVE TAKEN THE LEAD JUST BEFORE HALFTIME AS fALCAO SCORED A HEADER FROM A GREAT CROSS AND WAS UNMARKED.
Afternoon, MUR - great to have you on board for this one.
Great time for Porto to score right before the interval.
Braga have a free kick that is cleared and it is halftime.
I will have to sign off as class is starting, but will try to join you later in the second half.
And there goes the half-time whistle. You can't really say that Porto have dominated affairs but they have the more lethal striking partnership and Falcao did the job. His 18th European goal this season - wow!
Enjoy the teaching, mate. I'll chat with you later.
Hi Guys,
I am here for the half time talk
Porto 1 up
In the League 1 play off after a 1-1 draw in first leg, Huddersfield is winning 2-1 on the night
Afternoon, Dave. Looks like I may have another North Yorkshire derby in the Championship next season. Go on, the Terriers!
Did you see the route for the Olympic Flame next year?
Norwich on July 4th
Ipswich on July 5th
and
Cambridge on my Birthday July 7th
Any thoughts on those PPP standings?
I see that the Championship play off is on Memorial Day... you'll have to stay for it
Fantastic - you should go over for that!
I'm working on it, mate. Working on it.
It's a rogue's gallery in the studio - Ray Houghton, Didi Hamann and Curbs.
Already commented on the thread!
Too many ex-Pool players for my liking
We're off
Ooh, Braga should have tied it up immediately!!
Oh - almost an equalizer for Braga right from kick-off. One on one with the keeper, the substitute there. And he hit the keeper!
Braga seem to be out of the traps quickly in this second half and they've won a corner now.
I still fancy that Porto could score through Hulk or Falcao on the break.
Apparently the short corner hasn't been banned in Portugal either.
DId you listen to 606 a week or so back?
A guy had called back after calling the program a few weeks before
He was a Sheff Utd or She Wed fan saying that it wasn't right that both clubs shouldn't be below teams like Barnsley
They gave him a hard time about no team has the right to be higher. I actually knew what he was saying.
Wed. and United have the fan base and ARE BIGGER clubs.
Yeah - I did here that discussion and I agreed with Robbie that the Sheffield clubs can't rely on history to make the claim that they're big clubs. Leeds don't claim that we're too big to play Huddersfield because of the Revie years. It's ridiculous.
A little under half an hour now for Braga to get back into this one.
Btw, it is still possible for you, MUR or Thomas to win the PPP stakes. If United win the CL, you're the champ by miles. But if Barca win, it'll come down to points here or there for the correct order of teams in the top five and the relegated sides.
Albert Meyong coming on for Lima now.
I actually think that they took the guys call wrong both times. I don't think he meant it isn't deserved. I think the guy was saying that it shouldn't happen. I don't think he was blaming Barnsley but blaming his team for letting it happen. I can see his point. Those two clubs have great history and the stadia.
He couldn't make his point properly enough. Robbie didn't give him a chance either!
You consider your club bigger than Huddersfield, Barnsley and co.
Did I pick Arsenal for fourth? I think I put United, Citeh, Chelsea and then Arse
Bournemoth tie it up at 2-2 and 3-3 on agg
Just found a link for the play off
Back to the conversation I can't stop talking about...
Do you consider Wigan a big club... they have been in the Prem for quite a while but they have been around since 1982!!
I feel history is important for a team
Lost my link for both matches!!!
Still no link for the EL but I am watching the Playoff
Bloody students! They track me down even during the summer hols!
10 minutes to go at the Galpharm
You picked the following:
1. United
2. Citeh
3. Chelski
4. Arse
Relegated:
18. Blackpool
19. WBA
20. Wolves
ooh, I almost got the top four perfectly!
BUGGER
Did you find a link? I'm still searching.
'Scorcher in Yorkshire'
Why are these second legs so exciting all the time?
Hello BD and UWS. I am trying to get the Europa League link to work.
I have given up. I am following the Scorcher in Yorkshire
This one seems to be working:
http://nwxyz.blogspot.com/p/channel-2.html
"Scorcher in Yorkshire!" Luv it!
The ad is playing, so this is a better sign.
Do away goals count in those playoffs?
Hey MUR, welcome back
I finally watched "United" this weekend. Loved it
I don't think Sir Matt was that bad of a character. I don't know why his family didn't like it
Does anyone know if Bobby Charlton endorsed the film?
Did you get my email with his clips?
I don't think so until AFTER extra time
Under 4 to go
Nearly into stoppage time in Dublin. Welcome back, MUR!
I was denied acess to the link because I am on the school's server.I saw part of the clips, but will watch the rest when I get home from work today.
I just thought Bobby looked so good!
I don't think away goals are used in the playoffs. What is the score in the Portugese Cup Final (sarcasm)?
Into the last minute
Not as good as his bruvver Jackie!
SHUT IT
4 added minutes in Huddersfiled
I arrived home late from tutoring , so I watched the first few minutes.
Big Jackie could mark Jimmy Greaves whilst smoking a fag and drinking a pint of heavy!
Come on, the Terriers!
Sounds like Big Jackie.
Last chance saloon for Braga. Route 1!
The goalkeeper has gone up and gets a flick on it!
It's all over - Porto are Europa League champs!
It is still 1-0 in the Europa Cup Final in Dublin.
Porto have won the Europa League for the first time since 2003 when they defeated Celtic in extra time of the UEFA Cup Final.
Not happy!!
I have a list in my notebook of all the Finals written before the Final itself
Birmingham 2 Arsenal 1
Man City 1 Stoke 0
Porto 1 Braga 0
THE FIRST TEAM HAS WON ALL THREE
I HAVE BARCELONA VS MAN UTD WRITTEN DOWN ALREADY... SHOULD I CHANGE IT!
Game over in Huddersfield
Going to extra time
Here's the link if you're interested
http://tykestv1.info/
It looks like extra time will be needed in West Yorkshire.
I would rather see United win the CL Final than the PPP League.
The PPP League is important, bbut my loyalty is to United.
That's very gallant tipping your hat to UWS in the PPP stakes, MUR.
Thanks for the link, mate. I'm going to have to leave for a dinner party in a moment or two.
HE BLOODY WELL BETTER THINK THAT!!!
Bloody hell - Huddersfield have played 60 matches this season! How is that possible?
I just want United to win the CL for the second time at Wembley, albeit the New Wembley.
Extra time underway
Extra time begins at the Galpharm Stadium.
ooh, keeper and defender get in all sorts of trouble but cleared by Bournemouth
The Terriers have an early corner that is cleared.
It was a weird collission
Bournemouth have the Stoke City long throw approach, I see.
I'm off for a bit of lasagne, lads. Enjoy the rest of the match.
Go on, you Terriers!
Both sides make a substitution as a corner is about to be taken.
Just read on the Beeb
away goals NOT counting double at any stage
Take care Bob
The corner is headed to the kepeper and Bournemouth were unsuccessful on the counter.
Take care Bob. I wisdh I were eating lasagne.
I don't think away goals have ever been used in the playoffs.
I think they did AFTER extra time
Or is that the League Cup?
The referee gives Huddersfield a free kick just outside the box when it appeared to be a fair tackle.
The League Cup uses the away goals rule in the semis.
The free kick went into the wall.
Bournemouth just came up last season, didn't they?
Bournemouth take the lead!!!
Great cross and great header!
In English football, two-legged fixtures in the League Cup are only subject to the away goals rule after extra time; if teams are level on aggregate after 90 minutes of the second leg, extra time is played regardless of whether one team leads on away goals.
The semi-finals of the promotion playoffs in the Football League, despite being two-legged, ceased to employ the away goals rule from 2000. As away goals scored in extra time counted double, the side finishing lower in the league gained an advantage by playing away in the second leg, thus giving them 30 more minutes to score an away goal. The rescinding of the away goals rule has affected the results of several play-off semi-finals.
Struth... HField almost in right away
Bournemouth have taken the lead and look set for a playoff final. Bad News for Bob, but good news for Dave as that could be anothe local Derby for Pompey.
That rule makes sense
Yes you are correct, so that could be two consecutive promotions for Bournemouth.
IT IS TIED UP AGAIN!!!
I can't belive it. It is 3-3 and 4-4 on aggregate.
Half time of extra time 3-3 and 4-4
The second half of extra time begins.
What a match from West Yorkshire. Better than the Europa League Final.
The Playoffs are fun but are they fair?
Huddersfield finished 16 points ahead of Bournemouth
They finished 8 points ahead of 4th place Pboro
Far better
The tyerrieers defense blocks several shots before they eventually clear.
I think I want Peterborough to go up anyway
I have been asking myself the same question for many years. I am not sure, but they are exciting. A team can put a lot of hard work into a season and fail to be promoted by a penalty shootout.
You're right about the South Coast having some derbies. Sotton, Pompey and Bournemouth
Can you believe Portsmouth are the only team south of London to win the league?
Has any team south of the Thames won the league other than Pompey?
Alan Lee, the former Ipswich player is on as a sub for Huddersfield.
Would Chelski count as a team south of the Thames?
That is what I always complain about US sports about
Baseball... 162 games and you're brilliant... have a three game losing streak and you're done
Nope, they're on the North side
The students haveleft , so there should not be any students asking for help on Geometry problems.
The same is true in the NFL. Look at the Patriots three years ago.
Bournemouth are down to ten men!!
All the sports!
Pearce has been sent off for Bournemouth. Quite right too! He's suspended for the rest of the season. A shocking challenge.
ONLY THREE London teams have won the league
Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea
Shocking!
Bournemouth nearly scored with ten men as the long free kick was not well dealt by the Terriers.
Spurs have not won the league sionce the early 60's. I agree that it is shocking. There is s adefinite lack of success in the capital.
The corner from the Terriers is headed out for a throw,
Just over two minutes remaining.
We are in the last minute of extra time.
This isn't even for promotion!!
They still have the Final
2 added minutes
STRUTH... WHAT A SCRAMBLE!!
Surely that was a foul!!
Two minutes of stoppage time as Huddersfiled have a free kick just outside the box.It is scrambled away for a corner.
ooh, just wide
The corner and long throw are cleared as Bournemouth hang on.
It's over
Penalties!
We face penalties!
Thios is so exciting that I am still at school. I would have been about ten minutes from the house by now.
You plonker!!
Here we go
Penalties are a little more than luck
It takes skill to score under pressure
Class did not end until about ntwenty minutes ago. I would have missed extra time.
Get on with it... I need to go on an errand!
It looks like ex Brum keeper Ian Bennett, whos has been aorund forever ,is in goal for Huddersfield.
I second that.
Bournemouth first.... having trouble putting the ball on the spot.... 1-0... cool as cucumber!
1-0 Bournemouth as Ian Bennett is sent the wrong way.
Huddersfield... 1-1
1-1. Identical penalty.
Bournemouth.. this reminds me of Moscow in 08!.... SAVED!
SAVED! Bournemouth miss.
Huddersfield to take the lead... they do!!
2-1 Huddersfield . Excellent penalty.
Bournemouth... 1-2... off the bar!!!
Bourenmouth miss as it's off the top of the bar.
Huddersfield 2-1 up with a penalty to come.... Kevin Kilbane..... goal.... one more miss or goal and it is over!
3-1 Huddesfield as it is blasted down the middle.
Bournemouth must score.... centerback.. make Bob proud... goal!
Now 3-2 Huddersfield as the keeper is sent the wrong way.
Up comes Huddersfield... they score and they're in the Final....GOAL.... OFF THE BAR BUT IN!!
Hudderfield are going to Old Trafford!
IT'S THERE 4-2 HUDDERSFIELD AND THEY ARE OFF TO THE PLAYOFF FINAL!BOB WILL BE PLEASED!
Take care Dave... go home!!
TTFN
The fans invade the pitch as Huddersfield will face either Peterborough or MK Dons in the Final.
Take care Dave. I am headed home. Enjoy your errand.
