Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

The Gooner won't be with us this afternoon as he's at the match at RFK with son Eric for a bit of Father's Day fun. Let's hope the Sam's Army boys do us proud today.
The coverage on FSC has started with Waldo helming the usual team of Cobi and Sully.
FSC is teasing us with "big news" to report before game time. Apparently they're saving that for pitchside reporter Brian Dunseth.
Here it is - Landycakes is out of the starting lineup! Apparently travel time and fatigue are the excuses. Sasha Kljestan is in for him. Not good news.
Here are the line-ups:
USA: Howard, Boca, Goodson, Lichaj, Cherundolo, Dempsey, Jones, Bradley, Kljestan, Bedoya, Altidore.
Jamaica: Ricketts, Thomas, Phillips, Taylor, Vernan, Reid, Austin, Morrison, Richards, Shelton, Johnson.
Again, Bradley seems to be stuck on a particular formation - 4-4-2 - regardless of opponent. This is the same side that met distinctly less competent opponents in Guadeloupe earlier in the week with the exception of Kljestan for Donovan and Bedoya taking up the rotating striker position alongside Jozy. Not happy with it at all.
Sully makes a rare interesting point. There are more MLS players in the Jamaican starting XI than in the US starting XI.
Hello BD. I Am here to join you for the U.S. vs Jamaica. I guess Steve and Eric have the best seats in the house.
Eric Wynalda, Cobi Jones, and Chris Sullivan are the talking heads in the studio.
Afternoon, MUR! Happy Father's Day!
Thank you very much,BD. How have you been today?
I was just Skyping UWS trying to get him on the blog. He's watching the golf believe it or not.
Having a lovely day, mate. Jamaica get us underway.
The match is underway from RFK Stadium.
Bedoya with an early chance to swing a ball in but his cross didn't beat the first man.
I am here
Bob has forced me to watch the match
Off we go!
I have the golf on the TV too! I also have England vs C. Republic in the U17
No score after 20 mins
I have been under the impression that UWS is boycotting this tournament.
The Jamaican defense seems to be lacking in width. The US should be able to benefit through the fullbacks overlapping.
Give us a wave Steve and Eric!!
Good afternoon UWS . Happy Father's Day. I guess I spoke too soon.
Welcome, Mr. Snobby!
Early corner for the US. Kljestan takes and Bradley flicks on. Same move that resulted in a goal against Panama but not the same result today.
Hi Dave
Happy Father's Day to you
Gooner and Eric are on the same side as the cameras unfortunately. His seats are always directly across from the "Screaming Eagles" banner.
Oh my goodness - I kept waiting for the offside call there. Point blank save from Timmy and then an almighty miss on the follow-up
What a let-off!
I was kicked off the blog while Jamaica was attacking. That was nearly a goal for the Jamaicans . A great save by Timmy.
Jozy bursting into the area. He's the only one who's been scoring for the US - two in three matches. We'll need something from him today.
Thank You Dave. I have been lazy today, building a 1500 piece jigsaw puzzle with the girls.
The Red Bulls forward Dean Richards has been a stand-out for me in the other Jamaica matches.
This should be an open attacking game.
Nocito SportCenter
Rory McElroy not yet teed off
EnglandU21s 0-0 after 25 minutes
USA and Jams 0-0
Third Test, The Rose Bowl (day four):
England 377-8 dec v Sri Lanka 184 & 112-3
Lazy day for me too. A bit breezier out on the patio today than yesterday but I weathered it to read the paper, do a bit of the crossword and so on. Loving the summer weather.
He is really speedy. The U.S defenders will need to watch him closely or else....
The test match is at the Rose Bowl? In Pasadena? Or is there another?
Forgot to say
Sox winning
Mets losing
Rangers losing
Yanks tonight
Southampton
Jozy seems to be laboring - maybe a hammy?
We stay indoors most of the day due to unusually high heat indices.
Jozy is indicating he needs to come off. That's a disastrous for the US. First it was Landycakes not starting, now Bradley will have to go with either Wondo or Agudelo early doors.
Jozy is still down. I think he is finished for the day. What a shame.
Why not Landy?
Where is Jozy playing club football now
Neither has really distinguished himself during this tournament.
I think Jozy is playing in Turkey.
Agudelo coming on for Jozy. I suppose that if Bradley was worried about Landy's fitness, he wouldn't want him on at this stage. I expect him on for Kljestan at the 60 minute mark.
Agudelo is on for Jozy.
NOT WHAT HE PLAYING LIKE!! WHERE????
Boom boom
The guy broadcasting the England match puts out these random farting noises!!!
Yeah - Jozy is at Bursapor in Turkey.
Nice attempt by Dempsey
Great improvisation from Demsey to pull a save out of Ricketts.
Ricketts does well to tip around the post from Clint.
Oh - should have scored from the corner. Dempsey laid one on a plate!
The U.S. shot wide after some head tennis in the Jamaican box.
Jozy scored one goal in twelve appearances for Bursa.
Lichaj, Bob's favorite player, is in with the sliding tackle.
Rory tees off on the first....straight down the middle of the fairway!
Straight as a pancake!!
Not really good enough. He's always been a better goalscorer for the US than at club level.
Yellow card for Austin after a heavy challenge on Sasha.
Austin is booked for a challenge on Klejstan.
Smalling and Jones in the middle of the defense for England... United's future pair?
Lichaj is Villa's problem again - I won't have to gnash my teeth over his naive positioning this next season.
I seems that most of the Jamaicans play in MLS. Does anyone in their lineup play in England?
Jamaica have a free kick opportunity now. Ambitious effort from Austin.
Cleverley also on the field for England.
I hope he is back at Old Trafford next season
Rory second within 15 feet... birdie chance
I thought Ricardo Fuller would be in the squad. Their players are playing in the U.S. , Scandanavia, or in their domestic league.
Cleverley would be a great replacement for Scholes. The central defensive pairing is a possibility.
Right -
Ricketts - Galaxy
Taylor - Dynamo
Vernan - Dynamo
Thomas - Sporting KC
Richards - Red Bulls
Johnson - Earthquakes
There's one midfielder on the bench - Omar Daley - who plays for Bradford City but that's it. It seems as if they've shifted away from the policy of filling the side with English players with Jamaican grandmas.
That was never a penalty. Bedoya went down too easily.
Bob said on Skpe that the Jams are more MLS based than the US
Speaking of Bradford City, they are LUFC's first round Carling Cup opponents - the Tuesday after the start to the Championship season.
Can you tell I'm excited about the start of the new season? Roll on August!
Thank you ,BD. That is helpful. Ricardo Fuller was born in Jamaica and would have been their best player. The rest play in Sweden or Norway.
That's right - of the US starting XI, only Kljestan and Bedoya are currently playing in the MLS to my knowledge.
Birdie made for Rory -15
I agree. Now that I am on vacation I can comment on the new season. Bob, your team will have a nice local derby.
Definitely Ricardo Fuller would add some dynamism to the Jamaica attack.
Wow - Jermaine Jones picks up a yellow for a fairly innocuous tackle. He's never as useful after he picks up a yellow, which he's always likely to do. This is not panning out well.
Jermaine Jones gets his customary yellow for an unnecessary challenge.
I have a feeling that one goal will decide this match.
I thought that this might have been a high scoring affair but it's not settling that way. Both sides are being cautious and playing long balls to the attackers. I expected Jamaica to threaten more.
Dempsey shoots wide after some pinball action in the box.
The Jamaican backfour doesn't seem to be confident about the cross that are coming in from Cherundolo on the left. Is it possible that it's a bit breezy at RFK today?
Dempsey was clattered by Austin off the ball there and he's down grabbing his ankle.
Dempsey is down , holding his shin and is up .
Lots of possession now for the US.
The US fans are singing the "Star Spangled Banner" now. They really need to develop some more songs.
Dempsey's getting a lot of physical attention. Jamaica dropping really deep.
I agree. They are not the most creative fans, are they? They need some footie songs.
I am back after putting a sprinkler outside.
The guy has switched it to the Spain game
Two nil
Dempsey picks up a free kick about 30 yards out. He's eyeing it.
Nice strike by Clint that forces Ricketts to tip over.
Great save by Ricketts, the former Bradford City keeper.
The good news is that the US midfield seems to be winning most of the second balls.
Cheers from Americans? They can't do it
Lets go Mets go
Lets go Rory
DeFence
DeFence
Another corner for the US. I want Goodson to get his noggin on this one.
Great tackle by Reid as the U.S. wins another corner.
Dangerous break by Richards ends with a fairly tame effort straight at Timmy.
The Jamaicans counter off the U.S. corner and Richards shoots stright at Timmy. Agudelo did not look too clever blocking a header from Goodson.
Oh - Kljestan with a good hit and Ricketts again was forced to just parry it. Should have been someone following in.
Acrobatic effort by Clint over the bar.
Ricketts does well to tip around the post from Sasha. Clint shoots over from the corner with a bicycle kick.
Oh - just wide with the header from Bedoya. Tricky one really - just slightly behind him. I'm not unhappy with this first half performance.
Bedoya headed just wide from a great cross.
Oh - Agudelo does so well to beat his man and rifle a shot in. Ricketts again gives up a rebound and Jones should have kept it alive but just didn't have the gas to get it back.
Another great save by Ricketts and Jermaine Jones falls flat on his ass attempting to score with the rebound.
Jamaica does not look like a team that coasted through the group stages.
Oh - another great move ends with a side-footed shot by Lichaj at the keeper. Should have put his foot through it.
No - they seem a little overawed by playing the US for some reason. They were much better in the opening three games.
Great through ball from Bradley to Agudelo who should have scored . Ricketts is keeping Jamaica in this match.
Back for the second half for England.. they need a goal
What's the England v. Czech score, UWS?
There will be two minutes of stoppage time.
Reid is down for Jamaican. He looks as if he'll be able to continue.
Rory pars the second
And the third
Bit of a mix-up between Goodson and Howard there. Heart in mouth time.
Who the hell is Rory?
Rory McElroy... young Northern Irishman kicking everyone's butt at the US Open
Is it half time at RFK?
Half-time: 0-0. I agree with Kyle Martino for once. This is the best that the US have looked all tournament. Still, Jamaica aren't a bad side and could easily score off one of their fast counters. I'm also worried about the finishing of the US attackers.
Rory a tap-in birdie -16... 10 strokes ahead
30 minutes to go for England to get a goal
England don't look too good here!
England have only scored one goal so far in the tourney.... an injury time equalizer against Spain
LiverSox' new player Jordon Henderson being replace by some bloke named Henri Lansbury.
We're back on and the US have 45 minutes to kill this one off and proceed to the semis.
Lansbury is an Arsenal youth prospect. I've liked the look of him in the past.
20 to go for England
That was odd. Ryan Johnson was late coming out for the second half so Jamaica officially kicked off with ten men.
Is he named afterTH14?
Can't be
GOAL! The US take the lead!
A bit of a fluke there. Jones hit it on the full volley after it was cleared from the corner. It took a huge deflection into the net.
1-0!
Missed it!
My DVR won't go back... bugger
I wonder how that will change the Jamaican outlook on the match. They seemed content to hit us on the break in the first half. Now they'll have to take some more chances.
Par for Rory
YES!!!
Danny Welbeck nets a great header to take the lead!
CR have to go for a goal now... 76th min
England up to second in the group
The U.S. lead 1-0 through a deflected goal by Jermaine Jones.
That is excellent news. I believe the U-21 side drew their first two matches.
As predicted, it looks as if we're going to see Landycakes around the hour mark.
I think Henri Lansbury is a former Arsenal player that signed for Norwich.
A second goal for the U.S. should seal the victory.
Yup
1-1 to Spain and 0-0 with Ukraine
Nice one - I hadn't realized that Lansbury had moved on. It doesn't surprise me since English players don't get a look-in with Arsene.
We've been lucky to catch Jamaica on an off day.
Oh - excellent save from Ricketts there!
What a superb save by Rickettts from the close range header after a great cross by Cherunduloh.
The match is still on a knife's edge. We should be a couple of goals up at least, so it makes me nervous.
The latest update from the U-17 match is England 0 Rwanda 0 in the first half.
Agudelo does really well initially but then didn't give up the ball early enough.
This reminds me of Mexico vs Guatemala last night.
It's amazing how much footer there is going on today. It's the middle of June and I can't keep up!
Great run by Albrighton but the cross was hopeless
The Salvadoran fans are excited - not sure why.
Danny Wellbeck has scored some crucial goals for the England U-21 side .
Landy is about to come on as Watson came on for Vernon as the Jamaicans made a change.
He's the only one that has scored so far in this tournament
Great saving tackle by Jones
Four minutes to go
The crowd's really irritating me. I think they're doing the wave. Their noise has nothing to do with the match. I think I hear a vuvuzela or two too. Poor showing from the RFK faithful.
Danny Rose coming on for Scott Sinclair
Jermaine Jones was offside as the U.S. attempted to counter.
Landy is on for Bedoya.
Reminds me of a baseball game.. all you hear is conversation!
Steve should be able to give us some comments about the RFK crowd.
Well, I know he's been irritated by the RFK crowd in the past.
Wow - Jermaine Taylor gets a straight red for hacking Jones - last man back.
89:51... and the Czech Republic have scored!!!!!
Jermaine Taylor is sent off for fouling Jermaine Jones as he was through on goal. The correct decision according to the rules.
I agree with Martino - minimal contact on JJ there. Harsh on the Jamaican.
Klejstan shoots wide with a poor effort from the free kick.
Useless free kick effort from Kljestan there. I was hoping that he'd come off for Landy.
JJ was the last player through and a red card will always be given under those circumstances.
Plus the USA have to make the Final...it's in the script
I don't see a way back for the Jamaicans now that they are a man down.
I just didn't think that it was a foul when I looked at the replay. I think he overran the ball and fell over.
That's a bit cynical, innit Mr. Snobby?
Aguedelo is flagged offside as he was through with just Ricketts to beat.
Some really casual defending there from Bradley.
3 minutes into injury time... and the Czech Republic score!!! It is the last kick of the game
England lose 2-1 and are out
That is a shame about the Czech goal. I think a draw would eliminate England from the U-21 tournament.
How hard for England... going through at the 89th minute and then lose!!
What's going on with the camera work today? It's either a mile back or behind the play? Are they drunk behind the camera?
I am sorry to hear that UWS. They conceded two goals at the end when they appeared to be through.Hopefully, the U-17 team will defeat Rwanda today.
I would not be surprised, BD.
Shame about England.
Will anyone watch Panama vs El Salvador?
JJ is gassed - Mo Edu coming on for him.
Maurice Edu is on for Jermaine Jones.
I'll be watching - probably on-line rather than on the telly.
I will watch it on Univision.
Oh - Edu tries one from the top of the box. Wide of the mark.
Edu shoots just over with a decent long range effort.
Coming down to ten minutes to play. I can't quite believe that it's still 1-0.
Landy is offside after Ricketts made a superb tackle.
I walk in the room to see Demspey finish cooly!!
GOAL! Dempsey finally kills off this match after some sterling work from Agudelo to square it to him.
GOAL!!! 2-0 U.S. AS CLINT SCORES A SIMPLE TAP IN FROM CLOSE RANGE OFF A GREAT PASS FROM AGUDELO. CLINT DID WELL TO ROUND RICKETTS.
That's Clint's 21st goal in 75 matches for the US.
That was a nice goal
That is a great ratio for a midfield player.
The satellite went out . I am not sure why.
Too hot for it?
The signal is back.
That must be it,BD. We have had gusty winds too.
The game is really stretched out now. I could see a third goal for the US in the offing.
This match has been settled. The U.S. needs to see this out with a professional performance.
