The New Year's Resolution Thread
Now that we've all recovered from our hangovers, it's time to take stock of the things that we've managed to get done over the past year and project into the future. I'll go first, with my top three: 1. On the professional side, I resolved last year to write every day, hoping to get a book proposal done before the end of the summer. I accomplished the first part but because I took on three new on-going research projects, I didn't get the second half done. By the end of Summer 2011 - no excuses.
2. On the personal side, many of you know that I've recently started dating a colleague at work here. It's of course very new and seemingly fraught with risk, but it's also been really fun, easy-going and comfortable so far. I'm hoping to keep it that way.
3. Finally, as you all know, the situation with our parents' health and living situation has hit a crisis point, so Gooner and I have resolved to fly over sometimes this spring (probably around President's Day) to sort that out. Thanks for all your messages of support this year around our mom's cancer treatment and long recovery.

I have several New Years resolutions and will do my best to follow through.
1) I have discussed this with my wife and have brought this up to BD. I have decided that I should lose some weight and that I should eat healthier than I am at the moment. So far I have not done as well as I should , but resolve to do better.
2) I would like to be a better parent this year. I think I do a decent job, but there are times when I am too impatient with my daughters and forget that they are children. I did work on this during the holidays and did things together such as going to the park, going on a nature walk, etc.
3) I would like some feedback on this one. I have enjoyed chatted on LOB since joining . It has been a blast. I have always wondered what it would be like to chat in person.I did get the pleasure of talking to BD and Bivalve in Boston about a year and a half ago and would like to meet more people from LOB.
4) I got this idea from a friend at work and decided to make it one of my resolutions. I cannot let other people bring me down because if I do then they are controlling me.
I kept on promising to post my resolutions and finally did. I would be interested to hear other people's resolutions.
Thanks for your post, mate. I can't really speak to the parenting issue - I'll leave that one to the LOBers with kids - but I certainly second the idea of an LOB reunion. I think Euro 2012 may well give us some opportunities. Can't wait!
