Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!
581 Comments:
Chelski v. Fulham is up first. My dad said that this was threatened by the London tube strike but it appears to be on and also on the FSC. Lovely jubbly.
Happy Boxing Day Bob
Hope your Christmas was Merry!
I have always loved Boxing Day. Growing up, I had my aunts, uncles and cousins all came for a visit. We had Christmas dinner leftovers and played lots of silly games. A lot of fun
OF COURSE, there is footer too!
I have a friend from my soccer team coming over to help me put Tom's car radio in the car. Well, I am going to watch him!
He is a Toon fan.
I will be around and comment but I will have to be a host too!
Lamps and Torres both start today for the Blues
Chelsea v Fulham
Chelsea: Cech, Bosingwa, Luiz, Terry, Cole, Meireles, Romeu, Lampard, Sturridge, Torres, Mata. Subs: Turnbull, Drogba, Malouda, Lukaku, Ferreira, McEachran, Kalou.
Fulham: Stockdale, Kelly, Hangeland, Senderos, John Arne Riise, Dempsey, Murphy, Frei, Dembele, Orlando Sa, Ruiz. Subs: Etheridge, Sidwell, Baird, Kasami, Hughes, Etuhu, Briggs.
Referee: Kevin Friend (Leicestershire)
Marvelous! The teams are in the tunnel. For some reason, the bodkins at FSC are spelling Fulham "Fulaham" today (sigh)...
Arsenal v Wolves has been postponed for 24 hours because of the afore mentioned tube strike
Swansea v QPR
Newcastle Spurs are tomorrow
Morning, Dave - I hope you had a merry one as well. I love Boxing Day as well. I can well remember spending a Boxing Day or two at your house playing Charades and the like. Great stuff.
Speaking of games, a couple of friends have invited me over later for a Subbutteo fest. I haven't "flicked to kick" for yonks. Hope I've still got it!
This should be fun - David Luiz is partnering John Terry, while El Nino is making his return up front again.
Chelski can temporarily leapfrog Spurs into third with a big win over Fulham. Fulham can't be complacent only four points away from relegation.
Gary Taphouse and Tony Gale on the mic as we kick off.
Away we go
Fulham are playing in their old black shorts
It was really noticeable at kick-off there that FSC turned down the crowd noise. It makes it even more noticeable that the commentators aren't live at the match. That's a shocker!
Sounds fun with Subbutteo. Will you find Leeds
Yup.. I hate it too
The rest of line up today on the tellie is at 10
Man Utd v Wigan on ESPN 2
West Brom v Citeh on FSC
Noon
Liverpool v Blackburn
Stoke v Villa is a late game but not on TV
That's quite a nice line-up today, Dave.
It's all been a bit scrappy so far. Clint Dempsey picking up an early yellow.
A few snoods in evidence today. No need for them here, though. It's freakishly warm here in the mid forties with not a flake it sight.
Decent attempt by Clint
I missed Dempsey's booking.
Was it a make up for last game's elbow!!
Sounds like Jones is not badly hurt. He could play today
Tony Gale - "too much Christmas pud for them (the two teams)." Couldn't agree more.
Dempsey's was a simple tug back on Meireles, just an early warning from the ref probably. Dempsey's playing alongside Danny Murphy in a holding role today, which he doesn't like to do.
Great cross over from Boswinga but Mata fluffed his lines on the volley.
Oh - a great cross over this time from Kelly and Sa blew his header over the top. An even better chance for the striker there. Should have hit the target.
Great save Stockdale from Torres. Great stop!
Torres almost in there... great save!!
That will still give Torres some confidence. He did everything right bringing the ball down on his chest and volleying in the same movement.
Sturridge hits one wide... Chelsea are starting to get some chances
Oh - now it's Sturridge going close. Torres picked Hangeland's pocket and then slid over to Sturridge. His shot just sliced away from goal.
The game has sprung to life now.
So what did Kathy make for Christmas dinner, mate?
I like the cut of this Orlando Sa's jib, I'll tell you but he needs to take his chances a bit more efficiently.
Oh - Dembele just wide there. He worked the chance well past Romeu. Just past the post.
Tony Gale makes another good point, mentioning that there are five Chelski players covering Fulham's sole striker up front Sa.
Sorry, I was feeding the dog.
Fulham go close again!
Good morning gentlemen. Fulham/Chelsea is on, my son's got the iPad, my wife is no her way to Texas for a wedding and I've got nowhere to go.
Goood morning BD and UWS. I am guilty of getting extra kip. How are you?
We were over her dad's house and her brother from NYC did most of the cooking. Lovely steak and lobster tails... I didn't eat the lobster
What did you do?
Looking forward to the Everton/Sunderland link later.
Welcome MUR
Good morning Someone. How have you been?
Thank you,UWS? Has it been a good match.I know this has the potential of being an ill tempered local derby. Fulham seem more motivated for this match than vs United.
Chelski fans are quiet as church mice now. They've all fallen asleep after too much turkey, no doubt.
Romeu shoots over.
I had ham , baked potato, and vegetable casserole.
I am well thank. Hope everyone is having a great holiday.
JT heads a corner from Mata wide. Chelsea's first of the match.
Watford lead Evil Cardiff 1-0 while Bristol Rovers lead Argyle 2-1.
Quiz time
Which of these football teams went through 2011 unbeaten in all competitions?
A. World and European champions Spain
B. World club champions Barcelona
C. World Cup finalists Holland
D. Fabio Capello’s widely derided England
Mireles has a shot deflected wide by Lamps for a goal kick.
Morning, boys! Great to have you on board. Sounds like UWS had quite a feast yesterday. Why no lobster, though, Davey?
I had a nice invitation to join my new friend Jan and her mom for Christmas dinner. Ham, brussels, carrots with ginger, spuds. Lovely stuff.
Morning Someone
I would say Spain and England if friendlies don't count
I'm guessing "D" on that one, Davey. I know that England beat Spain in a friendly recently, Real beat Barca in a league match. Not so sure about Holland but I'm guessing Fabio's widely derided England. Am I right?
Don't like much seafood except cod and chips
You are correct
I would have loved the lobster. It's one of my favorites.
Terry NEVER thinks he fouls anyone!
Is BD or MUR correct?
Shocking behavior, UWS. Shocking. I like a bit of lobster and crab as long as someone does the work for me. I've never been so keen on strapping the bib on and going at the shells with the crackers and such.
He has always been that way. It must be a loophole in the rules. I once took a referee course at Lakenheath and never saw JT's name in the rule book.
Never touch the stuff
The fillet steaks were delicious though!!
Glad you had a nice dinner too
Two bits of news on Giggsy
United to offer him another year contract
OR
He could replace Speed as Wales manager
I agree. UWS, you should have had more food from the gourmet feast. REALLY SHOCKING! I would have traded the ham, baked potato and vegetable casserole with you.
I took a course too. I think mine was at Feltwell
RAF FA
I think Giggs should go into management at this stage of his career. The steak sounds delicious. You are turf, not surf!
Was JT's name in the rule book when you took the course?
Plymouth have tied it up at Bristol Rovers. It is now 2-2. Bob will be pleased.
I don't think it was... sadly... I don't think he was born yet!
JT not fouling was only added when he was born
The Fake Dons take the lead at Leyton Orient while the Real Dons trail 0-2 at home to Oxford United.
Just noticed that Derby v Leeds is a latest score
When did they kick off!!!!!
Thank you for the clarification on the rules. You never commented on my dinner remarks.
It is almost half time at Pride Park... BOB.. LET'S BE HAVIN YA
One minutes of stoppage time as Evil Cardiff have tied it up at Watford and Sotton take the lead vs Palace.
Leeds kicked off the same time as this match.
We scored five vs this lot.
Halftime and 0-0 from The Bridge.
Half time and it is scoreless
There is a link for Gillette Soccer special but the link went to MK Dons vs Oxford
Half time at the Bridge, then. A disappointing 0-0.
BOB... LEEDS ARE PLAYING!!
Crikey - I hadn't noticed really. I thought we had a 3pm kickoff. It's nearly half time at Pride Park. 0-0. Bollocks!
Got it
http://www.firstrowsports.tv/watch/99650/2/watch-gilette-soccer-special.html
When does the great Robbie Rogers get on the Leeds roster?
Quite a few games in the Championship have started
Derby and Leeds are scoreless HT
Southampton 1 Palace 0 HT
Millwall Pompey scoreless
Watford 1 Cardiff 1
Cheers,UWS.. I will go on the link. Bob did you see that Plymouth is playing?
Plymouth have come from behind to take a late 2-3 lead at Bristol Rovers. It is deep into stoppage time.
Bobs seems to have been rather Merry yesterday.. he is a little slow on the uptake this morning!
Plymouth have win 2-3 at Bristol Rovers.
Argyle have won!
If I had known I would have gone to your feast. Sounds like he had a great Christmas!
I opened some presents and got some gourmet jams from my mum. Should I have the strawberry jam, raspberry jam , or Christmas jam?
Big club conversation on SS
Villa bigger than Newcastle?
I would say Newcastle are slightly bigger, but it is a close call. Which jam??
That Chelsea mascot looks like a right prat!
Looking at the schedule coming up
Liverpool v Newcastle are playing on Friday
United could go top for New Years with a win over Rovers
CIty don't play until NYD
United play Newcastle the following Wednesday
City play Pool on Tuesday
Villa last won the league in '81, Newcaste in the 20s
Villa European Champions... Newcastle none
It starts tomorrow with Arsenal vs Wolves at 9 AM . We will need a link for that one.
Bugger.. Chelsea score... nice finish by Mata
GOAL! Mata puts Chelski into the lead. 1-0!
GOAL 1-0 CHELSEA AS MATA SCORES A SPECTACULAR CHELSEA GOAL!
Mata scores two minutes into the second half. Mata with a strong shot.
It starts tomorrow with Arsenal vs wolves at 9 AM. We will need a link as it will be on FSC Plus.
I believe that Robbie is coming in for the January transfer window. I'll be happy to see him popping up for us, perhaps as a replacement for Danny Pugh, who has failed to impress so far at ER.
I would say that is almost a tie for Toon vs Villa as none of the honors were recent. Both are sleeping giants.
It sounds like a great addition at ER.
I am a bit distracted this morning, as a friend has asked me to put together an 80s dance mix for her blowout engagement party tomorrow. Trying to match up the BPMs for "Genius of Love" and "Erotic City." Nothing I like better than DJing a party, lads.
I would love to attend any party that you DJ!
Cambridge take the lead!
DJing is a blast Bob!
Cheers, mate. We may have that opportunity at some point with an LOB reunion. That playlist is a doddle.
May I point out... LEEDS ARE PLAYING!!!
Yes, indeed, David. We're back on at Pride Park. Still 0-0.
Risse wins a corner off of Bosingwa.
The toast with the Christmas jam has been dispatched in honor of the holidays. Now time for the raspberry jam in honor of Bob's post of the queen's address.
YES!!!
DEMPSEY!!
And may I point out, UWS, that this is the first time I've dated someone in nearly (gulp!) 20 years, so, yes, I'm a bit distracted. Simon Grayson and the boys will understand, even if you married lads don't. What's a date for you lot - offering to do the dishes for the missus after dinner?
1-1! Clint!
GOAL YESSSSSSSSS!!!!
1-1 AS CLINT FINISHES OFF A CROSS FROM BRYAN RUIZ.
A GREAT COnCACAF COMBINATION!!!
Dempsey slides and scores. Beautiful. Game on!
Good on ya Bob
BOOM BOOM,BD! Wishing you well on your date and for me that is often a date nowadays.
Glad that you enjoyed the farting queen, MUR. I've also enjoyed the recent SNL spoof with Fred Armisen as QE2 and Bill Hader as Prince Phil, especially when they pull out the guitar and drumset and bash through a punk tune.
Good luck Bob and have fun!
Fulham wanting more.
Thanks for the encouragement, lads. Still 0-0 at Pride Park. I would strap on the boots, but Simon's not asking me to be fair.
Which Bob is DJing. Is it Dahlgren, Dylan, or Marley. "Bob's your Uncle." I would know if I was good at "Know your Bobs."
Wish I could strap on the boots. I guess there's subbuteo.
Watford have done us a favor in the early kickoff and held Cardiff to a draw. That's nice.
Clint shoots straight at Cech.
"Bob's Your Uncle" is actually the title of one of my many mixes.
Lamps does get the start but is being substituted!
Cambridge have a 1-0- halftime lead in a local derby vs Braintree as Malouda is on for Lamps.
It was a famous saying in England and my dad would tell us that Bob's your uncle, not mine.
50 million pounds, flopping in the box.
Both jams have been dispatched.
I agree, Someone. We scored five against the Cottagers the other day without reply.
I agree, Someone. Torres has been the waster of the season.
Strurridge with a decent shot tipped over
I think he is becoming a Defoe.... he's a ballhog
Great save, Stockdale, from Malouda's cheeky backheel.
Nice shot by Sturridge, Stockdale making some outstanding saves!
Stockdale did well to tip over from Sturridge after some better play from Chelsea.Stockdale did well to block a back heel from Malouda after a header from JT off the corner. Malouda was offside.
Bosingwa is booked for a foul on Karim Frei.
An hour gone at Pride Park - still 0-0. Time to freshen things up. Connolly came on for an injured Tom Lees in the first half. I'd like to see Ramon Nunez given a chance today.
Chelsea better not undeservedly win this one!!
IT'S LEEDS TIME!
Sturridge coming off - why?
Sturridge looks surprised to be coming off. Drogs replaces him
Drogba is on Sturridge. Why is Torres staying on? I agree with UWS about not wanting Chelsea ti win.
Wow, leaving Torres in and taking Sturridge off.
COME ON YOU WHITES!
Rooney only on the bench
Hernandez and Berbatov up top
Oh dear... Derby take the lead
I wonder why Tranmere vs Rochdale was cancelled. It's a classic!
Sorry about that,Bob.
BUGGGGGGERRRRRRRRR!
I was all on pins and needles over Tranmere v. Rochdale. Shame.
Grayson responds to the Derby goal by replacing Luciano Becchio with Andy Keogh.
Me too. That ruined Boxing Day!
Wind damage at Prenton Park
Was that the Queen's "wind" from yesterday that damaged Prenton Park, UWS?
Thanks,UWS. That explains it.
Oh - Meireles goes just wide with a curler inside the box.
That would have destroyed Prenton Park. I know everyone at LOB is devesatated
Just wide by Mireles.
Fifteen minutes left for Leeds to find an equalizer. I'd still like to see Yorkshire Nani at some point in the proceedings.
The Phantom of the Opera (aka Paulo Ferreira) is coming on now for Bosingwa.
I don't' see a link for the match at Pride Park. Just an interview with Stephen Hunt.
Bugger... Millwall take the lead against Pompey
Batman comes on for Chelsea
The Lone Ranger plays for Chelsea?
Under 10 to go
Paolo Ferreira is on for Bosingwa.
That was an extraordinary effort from Mata there - dear oh dear.
Sorry ,UWS. I am rooting for Pompey
Sa coming off - he really didn't do enough for me today.
Sotton now lead Palace 2-0.
I've conceded the title to Soton already. They can have it.
Cashley shoots into the side netting when he should have passed.
Will they emulate Norwich in the EPL?
A halftime score is Preston 2 Carlisle United 2.
Gerrard on the bench for Liverpool
Oh - Stockdale produces another good save there from Meireles. He's earned his corn today.
And another one!
Stockdale tips over superbly from a Mireles header.Another corner as there's a scramble in the box.Another superb save by Stockdale from a Drogba header.
Hereford take the lead vs Port Vale. Not good news for Plymouth.
COme on Fulham
Come on Fulham
Come on Fulham
We hammered these guys FIVE NIL
Yes! Nunez on for Aidy White for the remaining few minutes now at Pride Park. Come on, you Whites!
An easier save for Stockdale from Mireles.
Hold on Cottagers
3 added minutes
And another from Stockdale. This time from Malouda.Three minutes of stoppage time.
Cambridge now lead Braintree 2-0 in an East Anglian Derby7.
So Motty has an accent?
Oh - Kasami could have done better there with a half-chance.
What do you guys think about Hernandez and Berbatov starting up top for United
Cambridge go two up
Free kick chance for Chelsea... I hate these STUPID professionals for stupid fouls!!!
Dembele is called for a foul on Torres just outside the box. I thought Torres went down rather easily.
Stockdale tips over a free kick from Drogba.
Good hit by Drogs... tipped over
I like the idea of wea Pea and Drac starting up front. I am interested to see how it works.
YES!!
Cheslea's third 1-1 draw in a row
Millwall have defeated Pompey 1-0.
Full-time: 1-1
You lot must be happy with that one.
Come on, Ross - pop in a late one, lad!
Now concentrate on the good guys!
United on ESPN2
Citeh on FSC
It finishes 1-1 at The Bridge . Lovely Jubbly.
