The First Silverware of the Season
The League Cup is up for grabs today. Will City take the first step on the way to winning a treble. United failed at this point in 1994 losing to Villa OR will Sunderland do a Wigan and beat City at a Wembley final. They have beaten Chelsea and United on the way… hope they do!
Kick off at 9 a.m. and then three Premier League match ups at 11:30

Sergio Aguero starts! That is the big news. Joe Hart and Alvaro Negredo also miss out.
Man City XI: Pantilimon, Zabaleta, Kompany, Demichelis, Kolarov, Nasri, Toure, Fernandinho, Silva, Aguero, Dzeko
Sunderland make three changes from the 4-1 defeat at Asenal. Wes Brown, Lee Cattermole and Seb Larsson all start.
Sunderland XI: Mannone, Bardsley, Alonso, O'Shea, Brown, Cattermole, Colback, Ki, Larsson, Johnson, Borini
I have no telly coverage of this match. I have a lovely link from Sky Sports going strong
Good morning UWS. Great post. I will watch on BEIN. I would normally go for Sunderland, but I think it's in my best interests to go for Citeh for PPP purposes.
If City win… then probably say hello to the Europa League at Old Trafford
Morning MUR
Why would it help you?
I just looked it up and it says you picked Southampton beating Villa
You had City in the FA Cup
Matt picked City
Gooner and I are tied for first and Gooner picked Citeh to lose today. He will have a two point lead. Is that correct?
Yes, Gooner did have City losing
No he didn't
He has them losing in the FA Cup Final
If Citeh win then we are in the EL unless we finish 7th and also Hull City, Sunderland or a lower division team win the FA Cup.
BD
Liverpool over Cardiff
Chelski
Arsenal over Cardiff
Gooner
Spurs over Everton
MUR
Sotton over Villa
Matt
City over Chelsea
Red Devil
Liverpool over Everton
Red Dragon
Everton over Spurs
Someone Said
Spurs over Swansea
Swansong
Liverpool over Newcastle
UWS
Spurs over Chelsea
What's Up
Chelsea over Spurs
WE SUCK!!!!!
Then I guess go for Sunderland. I think Bob said he picked them to lose today. Any way, the EL is really stupid and inconvenient competition. Just ask Wigan and Swansea.
Agreed, if Citeh win than 6th is in Europe
If there is a minnow in the Cup Final then 7th is in Europe
Just in this competition. I think this is the hardest competition to predict in the PPP other than the EL.
I just read it over my copy from desktop
That Thursday / Sunday schedule really hurts teams.
BEIN doing a preview show. Citeh last won this competition in 1976. Pool have the most wins with 8. Was that the match where Dennis Tueart scored the winner with an overhead kick?
It was that match for Tueart against Newcastle
Of course, those were the days that this match wasn't shown on the TV live in England. We would have to wait until Sunday afternoon to watch the highlights on ITV
What do you think about Liverpool?
I like watching them play more than Chelsea and Chelsea. They attack like United used to do!
I can't have them win the league because they are Liverpool but I have been very impressed
Morning, boys - thanks to UWS for posting the thread this morning. It's great to have both of you on board for League Cup Final day.
1976 League Cup Final
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLUalqgCZts
Two United players scored in this match
Peter Barnes played for United and so did Alan Gowling
Morning BD
Good morning Bob. Great to have three of us on board.
As much as I hate to say this, Pool and Citeh are the most enjoyable teams to watch, but Chelsea will probably prevail.
What is going on at Wembley!!
Some moisten tart is floating in the air near a boat and picks up the Cup and delivers it to a soldier who puts it on the pedestal at the tunnel
THE TEAMS ARE COMING OUT
I see that you've already had the conversation about the PPP implications of today's match. UWS is right and I was wrong yesterday - no one picked City to lose the final, so it's just the four of you who picked City to win who have the chance of winning six points.
Great trivia. Barnes was just starting his career and would later join United. Gowling was not exactly a success at United.
Then
COME ON YOU BLACK CATS!
Terrible coverage as usual on BEin Sports. They need to get some tutoring from NBC.
Martin Atkinson will officiate as the pre-match ceremonies are underway
Agreed Bob.
Yes - I reckon the only person who should be cheering on Citeh this afternoon is Matt.
Attractive looking national anthem singer. She must be freezing.
I wish I had a big screen to watch it on
Some lady blurting out God Save the Queen
I lost one point because Citeh are in fourth place instead of third.
In "Too Much Information" coverage today, I'm prepping for a colonoscopy today, so it's no solid food this morning, clear liquids during the day and a ton of laxative around mid-day. Yum!
An attractive looking lady.
I do believe that that was "The Lady with the Biggest Tits" from the "Summarizing Proust" sketch.
I'm wishing you the best. Elizabeth has had two. Today will be the hardest day. I'm sure you will do fine.
Tried to put it on my TV and I have the website but it doesn't have a "playable source"
BUGGER
Jozy did not make the squad. He has no chance of getting a medal today
The commentator says that Citeh fans are already doing "The Poznan" but I don't see it. Oh - there it is. I thought that they only did that after a goal. A bit premature, no?
Sorry UWS.
Away we go for the 54th League Cup Final
They're off from Wemberley.
It's all coming to you lot - UWS will be doing one in July or August and you've got an appointment scheduled in two years, mate.
Citeh get us started in the 2014 edition of the first big pot of the season.
Off to make meself some clear liquid for brekkies.
It should be an interesting battle of South American managers. The first time a South American manager will win a major piece of silverware in England?
Mine will probably be Christmas vacation 2015. Elizabeth has already reminded me.
Mine will probably be Christmas vacation 2015. Elizabeth has already reminded me.
Sunderland getting stuck in early doors.
I don't know where you see four of us picked Citeh today
Only Matt did
Silva wins a corner off of Bardsley. Silva has the corner headed out by Wes Brown for another
Sunderland struggle to clear the next corner . After a long spell of Citeh possession O'Shea clears it off Nasri for a goal kick.
My link keeps pausing… very annoying
Cattermole , of all people ., led a Sunderland break. He found Borini down the right, but as he crossed three Black Cats were offside.
I'm back in time to see Aguero testing out Arsenal reject Mannone.
Great save by Mannone from Aguero. Citeh keep possession.
You're right UWS - I kept looking at the FA Cup line. Apologies.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ONE NIL SUNDERLAND!!
BORINI
GOAL! Exactly what the match needed. Borini races through and scores!!!!
GOAL !!!!
BORINI GIVES SUNDERLAND THE LEAD
Nice finish
Fernandinho coughed up the ball and Citeh were punked with a quick break. Johnson lofted a ball over the top that Kompany buggered up.
Gus Poyet is delighted!
Poyet the Bob Stokoe of the 21st Century!!
Don't. Mention. Stokoe!
I definitely don't want Citeh to win the treble United failed to do in 1994
Oh sorry Bob… I didn't put two and two together!
Two uncharacteristic errors from Citeh. Fernandinho coughed up possession to Cattermole , who found former Citeh player, Johnson. Then his long ball found Borini, who beat Kompany, who fell asleep on the play. Then he finished in the corner past Pantilimon.
Sunderland with their first corner of the match
They shouldn't sit back
Far too long to hold out
Ian Porterfield….sorry.. that slipped out…I meant it this time
Boriini had a chance at the top of the box.. deflected for a corner
Borini has a shot deflected over after a corner from Larsson was headed away
Borini's playing like a man possessed!
wes Brown heads high and wide from the corner by Larsson.
What do you think will happen and what do you think should happen with Alan Pardew?
Mannone reminds me of Monty.
Sorry Bob.
Is Borini a Sunderland player or is he on loan from Liverpool?
I think Alan Pardew will be suspended. I am not sure what will happen, but that should be up to the Toon board.
Sunderland fans doing the Poznan
Sunderland fans doing a mocking "Poznan," while Citeh fans look down in the dumps.
On loan from Pool.
Gary Lineker, BBC Sport

Where there is Demichelis there is hope!
Chelsea United Citeh… not a bad Cup run
Citeh's last win in this competition was against a Geordie team and a player from that '73 team scored the winner. a real kick in the teeth for Toon fans that day.
I wouldn't be surprised if Pardew got the sack. I was disappointed, though, that there was so little contact. He should have gone "Full Zidane" if he was going to go for it.
Definitely got to wemberley the hard way.
Jim Monty in the crowd… not good memories for Our Bob
What is Kompany playing at today? He's looking terrible!
I'm not sure if he will. Can they find someone who will do a better job with that squad?
Citeh looking really out of sorts. I'm not sure that Dzeko has had a touch!
Agreed Bob. Lineker must not have seen who was at fault for the goal. De Michelis has not put a foot wrong today.
That Sunderland goal was really in Bad Kompany with some of the goals Citeh conceded.
Larsson offside to end a clever Sunderland possession.
Boom boom, MUR!
Yaya showing how frustrated Citeh have become.
AGuero did well to get past Marcos Alonso and put in a nice pass, but a poor first touch by Nasri resulted in an easy save for Mannone.
Ta, Bob. He will want to forget that goal.
Ta, Bob. He will want to forget that goal.
Now Zaba looking frustrated.
Struth.. Sunderland were almost in there again!
Sunderland defeated Citeh 1-0 at the SOL earlier this season, so they know how to play against this Citeh team
Hard to believe that we are at the half hour mark. It's been an intriguing final.
Citeh starting to pile the pressure on.
Colback forced into conceding a corner.
another corner as Sunderland could not clear their lines.
Borini heads off the line for another corner
Now Borini is back clearing Sunderland's lines.
Is he going to be selling match programmes at half time?
Larsson leads a break off the next Silva corner , but fails to find Johnson. At least it relieves the pressure.
He will definitely lead the headlines.
I guess I do want Citeh to win the league ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool… but as i said before… Liverpool are looking really good but I want them to stay at 18 for many more years… it will be 24 years this year…. United went 26
Sunderland have been tough into the challenge all day long. Colback there showing the desire.
I am sure O'Shea, Brown, and Bardsley are up for this match as they are former United players.
Good point, UWS. I think Pool will fall a little short despite a great season
I don't think Liverpool have what it takes to win the title. Arsenal are starting to falter. It's probably Citeh or Chelski. Citeh have the GD advantage.
What a saving tackle by Komp… bugger
Oh - Borini was in again but this time Kompany gets back magnificently.
OH! Borini got behind the Citeh defense looking for a second goal, but this time Kompany got in a last ditch tackle. Borini was just offside. The corner was headed out for another
Pantilimon punches away the corner from Larsson then it goes out for a goal kick.
I agree with Bob. It's between Citeh and Chelsea.
Kolorov has a cross deflected for a corner.
It would be delicious irony to see a Mourinho side beaten by goal difference.
Kompany heads harmlessly wide off the corner from Silva.
Has Citeh had a really good chance yet?
Agreed about Jose … I would luv it
IT sure would. It may come down to that.
Do you think Moyes will survive?
Van Gal is being rumored!
Moyes has to know that United don't go out to not lose games… they go out to win every game… YOU'RE NOT AT EVERTON ANYMORE!
Mannone made a great save from Aguero win it was 0-0 and Borini headed off the line from a corner.
Well - the Kun Aguero shot that Mannone saved early doors was decent.
How long did it take Fergie to bed in at OT. I know he had a rough time at first. I'd like to see Moyes given a chance to succeed.
Jose said yesterday
We're not on top of the table
A reporter said
yes you are
He said
Citeh are if they win their games
I agree with him but don't be an idiot..you are on top!
appointed in November of 86
Won the FA Cup in May of 90
I think Moyes is on thin ice and am sure he will be gone by the end of the season. Van Gaal sounds like a place holder until something better comes along.
One added minute of the half
A minute of stoppage time.
Expectations are different. United were bottom when Fergie took over. Moyes inherited a team that won the league by FIFTEEN points.
Half time at Wembley… well done Sunderland
Keep it up… of course I fear the Citeh Watford game in the FA Cup
Off for a shower
A walk between the Cup Final and Prem matches…I'm on the run all the time!!
It's halftime and Sunderland lead by a goal from Borini. A great first half. I can't wait for the second half.
I am back all squeaky clean to see my link frozen… got it back.. still half time
The second half is underway
We're off again for the second half… bunch of red seats shown… I HATE IT
WEs Brown heads out a pass from Yaya for a corner. The corner is eventually cleared.
That was strange… Defender controls and kicks away with the keeper right behind them
THE announcer said it was people getting halftime refreshments. It looked full when the match kicked off.
Who are your commentators on BEIN?
I have a Sky Sports link with Martin Tyler and Gary Neville
The red seats are all the corporate seats…they're here for the hospitality stuff at half time… they don't care about the match!
The FA shouldn't have put those seats right in the TV shot
Will Mannone make a famous double save to earn the Black cats a famous victory?
I'm back from a lovely hot shower to see that there are no changes from either side yet. Negredo up warming though.
Another Sunderland 1973 reference, MUR?
MAnnone saves easily easily from Silva.
Great shot there by Ki
Pantilimon does well to tip over a long range effort from Ki.
They're going the same direction as back in the early 70s… not mentioning the exact year
Larsson took the corner and several free Black Cat headers then Bardsley fails to make the proper contact
Look, three years later our lot lost to a team that wore red and white strips… not on that day or now but...
One of the announcers is Ian Joy. I'm not sure about the other announcer .
Yaya could knock this in… BE SMARTER!!!
That was equally embarrassing. At least Leeds tested the keeper in their loss.
Strange free kick there!!
The Citeh front line is just not clicking at all.
BLOODY HELL
YAYA WITH THE GOAL
Didn't really see it because of my link
GOAL! And just as I type that, Yaya equalizes with a stonker!
Citeh maintain possession despite a poor quick free kick then '
GOAL !!!! 1-1 YAYA WITH A GOAL OUT OF THE BLUE!
Right in the corner
Citeh to win by a couple of goals here
From his stance, it looks as if he meant to chip that in for a header but it floated over Mannone instead. Did he mean that?
Martin Tyler on Yaya
Out of sorts then out of this world
GOAL!!
Nasri scores for Citeh… I KNEW IT
GOAL! And now it's Nasri! Citeh have turned it around and the Citeh faithful are leaping up and down.
Yaya with a really cheeky after a poor training ground routine.
GOAL !!!! 2-1 AS NASRI SCORES WITH A SIMILAR STRIKE EXCEPTHIS WAS IN THBOTTOM 90 INSTAED OFTHE UPPER 90.
Great finish!!!!
Two great goals by Citeh… these two minutes could win them the treble!!
Great quick break through Aguero to Kolarov. The ball over found Nasri who lashed it in with the outside of his right boot. And now he's off for a rest!
Sergio is off
Is he just tired or did he do something to his hammy
Aguero as well. Pellegrini making immediate changes. Navas on.
Two goals in 75 seconds as Navas is on for Aguero
Robbie Savage at Wembley, BBC Radio 5 live
Man City 1-1 Sunderland
"That's one of the best goals you will ever see at Wembley. A real moment of magic. That is why Yaya Toure is one of the best players in the world."
Robbie thinks it was meant
Two goals in one minute and 45 seconds
Kolarov goes over in the box but the ref isn't interested.
I'm not convinced. Yaya's head was down looking at the ball, not at goal. I think he meant to dink it in and just overhit it.
Steven Fletcher for Johnson and Gardener for Larsson as Gus looks to get his team back into this match
Lost my link and then get it back.. behind you guys… i just saw the Kolarov dive
Pantilimon deserves credit for the second goal His long punt found Aguergo who passed to Kolorov down theleft. His cross was put in first time by Nasri , who definitely meant that one.
I think Yaya meant it all the way
Come on Desmond… join the party!
the equalizer was scored in bizarre circumstances as it started with a short free kick off the training ground that was a complete flop. The Black Cats failed to clear their lines and Demichelis passed to fellow Argie, Zaba . Then Yaya played a one two with Zaba before scoring with that cheeky finish. Only he will know if he meant it.
He was far too central to get the ball across the box… he just went for where it ended up
Again, he was inside the posts or equal to one… no way he was trying to cross it
De Michelis concedes a free kick just outside the box. pantilimon punches away the free kick from Marcos Alonso then Citeh eventually clear.
How did the Brum Arsenal scoring go?
Did Arsenal take the lead and Brum come back?
Sunderland want a handball… never
I would tend to agree, UWS. that goal may be just as famous as the bicycle kick from the ex Black Cat.
No, Brum took the lead in the 28th RVP equalized in 39th Brum won it in the 89th
A corner from Ki is headed out be de Michelis for another
I really liked the Nasri finish…classic
I remember that the Brum winner was due to a terrible defensive mix up. it's been all downhill for Brummies since then and I'm sure they are not fans of the EL.
I think it's similar to that Ronaldhinho free kick that floated over David Seaman in the 2002 quarter final.
It was a fabulous finish.
With the Nasri finish, he kind of shinned didn't he?
Yaya's was better because Seaman was terribly out of position.
Back to the League
Do you think Liverpool have a shot of winning the league?
They have only TEN games left in their entire season all in the League
Citeh have FA Cup and ONE more CL match
Chelsea will probably have more CL matches
NAsri's was with the outside of the boot . He meant it all the way.
