Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Euro 2016 Draw!

We can all book our Air France flights for the summer of 2016 because we'll be spending our ete vacation en France given today's draw. Engerlund got the relatively simple task of dealing with Switzerland, Slovenia, Estonia, Lithanua and San Marino. England's strikers will licking their lips at the prospect of filling their boots with goal in away trips to the likes of Basel and Talinn.

Here's the draw in full:

Group A: Holland, Kazakhstan, Iceland, Latvia, Turkey, Czech Republic
Group B: Bosnia-Herzegovina, Cyprus, Andorra, Wales, Israel, Belgium
Group C: Spain, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Belarus, Slovakia, Ukraine
Group D: Germany, Gibraltar, Georgia, Scotland, Poland, Republic of Ireland
Group E: England, San Marino, Lithuania, Estonia, Slovenia, Switzerland
Group F: Greece, Faroe Islands, Northern Ireland, Finland, Romania, Hungary
Group G: Russia, Liechtenstein, Moldova, Montenegro, Austria, Sweden
Group H: Italy, Malta, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Norway, Croatia
Group I: Portugal, Albania, Armenia, Serbia, Denmark

*France qualify as hosts, but will play friendlies against teams in Group I. There will be no points awarded for games in which France figure, so these will have no affect on the Group I table.

England should qualify with relative ease. Sturridge , Roon ,and co. should add to their goal tallies. Will the France 2016be the first tournament with 24 teams? How about the Jocks or Irish from Group D? They must be licking their chops at the thought of facing Gibraltar, Poland , and Georgia. Sounds like third place in each group qualifies for the playoffs.

It is indeed the first time that Platini has sanctioned 24 sides in the Euros. A bit inflated, in my estimation. But there it is. It'll give hope to the Jocks and Monkey Boy Bale and co. in Wales. Not quite sure what the qualifying situation is yet.
