Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Hello mate. Nice may be Nice , but Lewandowski probably won't.
Lewandowski is my pick to be GBB. The Ulstermen make their debut in the Euros while the Poles are winless at a Euro. Something has to give.
Welcome back, mate. I thought you might like that pun, mate.
Lewandowski is a good shout for GBB.
Cheers mate.Color me impressed: green with envy.
Here are the teams out on the pitch in Nice:
Poland: Szczesny, Piszczek, Glik, Pazdan, Jedrzejczyk, Blaszczykowski, Krychowiak, Maczynski, Kapustka, Milik, Lewandowski. Subs: Boruc, Cionek, Jodlowiec, Linetty, Grosicki, Stepinski, Wawrzyniak, Peszko, Salamon, Zielinski, Starzynski, Fabianski.
Northern Ireland: McGovern, McLaughlin, Cathcart, Jonny Evans, McAuley, McNair, Norwood, Davis, Baird, Ferguson, Lafferty. Subs: Carroll, McGinn, Grigg, Washington, Corry Evans, Dallas, McCullough, Hughes, Ward, Magennis, Hodson, Mannus.
Referee: Ovidiu Alin Hategan (Romania).
The key battle will be in midfield between Steven Davis of the Saints and Krychowiak of Sevilla.
I t looks like four central defenders will be marking Lewandowski with Jonny Evans , Gareth MacAuley, Paddy McNair ,and Cathcart. Actually , McNair is on the right side of midfield, but three central defenders to mark Lewandowski
Bright sunshine in the stadium as the Norn Irish prepare to kick off.
They're off from Nice.
Sunny and in the low 70s. Sounds like Fred Town weather.
Gareth MacAuley called for an early foul as he often is with the Baggies.
A poor free kick cannons off the one man wall.
Shane Ferguson of the Evil Lions makes sure that the Ulstermen are not completely good guys.
Strong start for the Poles.
An early corner for the Poles and it's just over the leaping Lewandowski,
The Ulsermen were last in a major tournament thirty years ago today, which was Pat Jennings's 41st birthday. How old is he today?
Lots of pressure from the Poles , but yet to test McGovern, the keeper.
Northern Irish under the cosh from the off. Crikey!
Milik with that miss kick that could have given the Poles an early lead.
They seem to be designed to absorb a lot of pressure. I wonder if that''s how they won their qualifiers.
Four former United players or academy players and one current one starting for the Ulstermen plus not so old Roy Carroll on the subs bench
I suppose so; I can't say that I saw any of their qualifiers. I know that Lafferty is their sole goal threat.
I've just asked that trivia question of the group assembled - they're struggling.
I'm not sure he will score at this level of difficulty as he's now playing with the Brummies. I think they scored by committee during the qualifiers and kept it tight at the back.
They've got Evans, McNair and Carroll - they can't get the rest. Can you help them out?
Connor McLaughlin played for Fleetwood Mac , who finished 19th in L1 this season. I guess that shows then disparity in talent and I guess that's the club's first player to play in a major tournament.
Craig Cathcart was with the MUFC Academy , but never played a first team match. He played for the Tangerines their one season in the Prem and is now with the Hornets,.
Well defended by the Fleetwood Mac player as Maczyinski wins a corner.
Blascychowhski wins a corner off of Jonny Evans.
The Norn Irish are parking the proverbial bus here - frustrating Poland so far.
There's actually a couple more. Ollie Norwood and Corry Evans, the brother of Jonny were also former MUFC Academy players without ever breaking through
I'm sure they do that on a regular basis.
Chris Baird heads out for yet another Polish corner.
It's headed away then Blacychowski is fouled by Jonny Evans. Also his Baggies teammate , MacAuley made a great block
Jonny Evans and Gareth MacAuley are a central defensive partnership with the Baggies as well and I get the impression that they are used to parking the bus thanks to Tony Pulis.
The Green Army have kept a clean sheet longer than Albania and Slovakia.
Su Su Sudio is fouled by Kyle Lafferty as he catches a cross.
Bilik has a long range effort easily gathered by McGovern
A tad late by Paddy McNair on Kapustka.
Oh - Milik with a big miss there. Got around the defenders but then shanked his shot wide and high.
OH!!! the best chance of the match for the Poles as Bilik shot over from close range. The first time the green back four was breached.
kapustka a tad late on the Fleetwood Mac defender
Kyle Lafferty called for a barge that is considered fair in the Championship, but not in the Euros.
The Ulstermmen without a shot this match while the Poles are highly inaccurate with only one out of eight on target and that was a routine save for McGovern
Bilik has a corner headed out by Kyle Lafferty for another.
Oh - great save there - Kapushka with a rocket tipped over the bar.
The next one is taken short, cleared and Kapustka has a long range effort well tipped over by McGovern
A scramble in the box off the corner as the Ulstermen fail to clear and a close range effort bounces off the side netting.
The great Boniek is sitting in the stands looking none too pleased with the Polish performance.
The corner leads to more manic action, as the ball bobbles from left to right across the edge of the six yard box, legs flung wildly in its direction from all angles, before finally it’s lashed wildly wide of the far post.
Connor MCLaughlin lectured for obstruction. He probably gets away with those types of challenges in L1
No stoppage time and the brave Ulstermen are holding the Poles 0-0 at the half.
All a bit uninspiring but really this is NI's only hope of progressing through a best third place finish with three draws.
The Guardian published an interesting graphic of the touches from the first half that shows that Northern Ireland didn't get into the Polish 18-yard box even once during the first half. Not even close.
The second half is underway and Bob will be pleased that Stuart Dallas is on for Paddy McNair, which is a more attacking switch.
Wahay - The players are back out, and Poland are ready to get the second half under way. Stuart Dallas has come on at the break, and Paddy McNair gone off.
Kyle Lafferty fouled Su Su Sudio while going for a cross. Wouldn't that be close?
You will be pleased to see LUFC being represented this tournament, but I'm not pleased that it's at the expense of MUFC. If the Evil Lions and Fleetwood Mac can be represented then why not LUFC . I'm sure you will not dispute that
Stuart Dallas getting stuck as the do at ER.
He knows his role well.
GOAL!!!! POLAND TAKE THE LEAD.
GOAL! The deadlock is broken by Milik who strode forward and shot underneath the keeper's arms.
That was coming, you'd have to say.
aFTER A BOUT OF HEAD TENNIS , bLASCYCHOWSKI WAS PLAYED DOWN THE RIGHT AND HIS pass was cooly slotted in by Milik. The first time Jonny Evans and the Green defense were dragged out of position. Great finish
It was and Milik is a fitting scorer as he's been the MOTM , IMHO.
Despite trailing , the Ulstermen have not disgraced themselves.
Lewandowski may think he's a superstar , but he was easily tackled by the Fleetwood Mac defender. He won't put that on his CV.
Glick fouls Ollie Norwoood as the Ulstermen have a set piece opportunity,
Free kick chance for Norn Ireland - still no touches in the box for the Ulstermen - alias.
The free kick from Norwood is headed away
Lewandowski is discovering the hard way that players in the Championship and L1 can defend against the best of them
How on earth did this lot top their qualifying group?!
Nice slide tackle for a corner by the Fleetwood Mac defender on Kapustka off a nice slide rule pass by Lewandowski. I guess it''s a goal kick, but great defending
Is this curtains for NI or do they have a hope if they keep the score down.
They were in with the likes of Romania, Hungary, and Greece. The Greeks were group favorites, who flopped, but who did they face of this quality in qualifying? That may explain it. The talented Poles are not having an easy time of it, so they topped their group by making it difficult for other teams me thinks.
If the Ukraine are mentally switched off and the Ulstermen can nick a victory against them then they could go through as one of the four third place teams. I see it as a possibility
Shane Ferguson trotting off after a sturdy outing and Conor Washington of QPR coming on - an attacking move.
Kapustka booked for a late foul on Chris Baird and an Evil substitution as Connor Washington of QPR is on for Shane Ferguson of the Evil Lions.
The Ulstermen with their first corner of the match. Taken by Ollie Norwood and headed away
A poor cross by Stuart Dallas is out for a goal kick
Just wide by Blaschychowski as the Poles found joy down the same flank from which they scored.
Craig Cathcart booked for a not nice challenge on Lewandowski.
Some ManYoo Academy tackling there from Cathcart produces a yellow card.
We’ve settled into a familiar pattern here. Poland try to pick out Lewandowski in the box, but fail.
This match and the Swiss vs Albania show that there will not be any easy matches at the Euros. The Poles are discovering that
Oh - Conor streaked through on goal for a first touch in the Polish box - collected by Sussudio.
Nice run by Connor Washington, but ran into the deafening sound of Su Su Sudio
That run by Washington was the most creative move by the Ulstermen so far
Lewandowski just saw that Jonny Evans was well schooled in basic defending at the MUFC academy .
MAczynski slices a shot high and wide off a great possession.
A spectacular effort from Kyle Lafferty. Not quite right.
StevEn Davis finds the Fleetwood Mac fullback and his great pass finds Lafferty , who is well wide with a bicycle kick
A little more enterprising from NI - but they really need to go hell for leather now. This is their best chance of getting points.
The final roll of the dice from O'Neill, Michael not Martin or even Nick as it's an attacking switch. Jamie Ward of Forest is on for Chris Baird.
Maczynski coming on now for a late cameo.
The Poles now make a change Jodlowiec is on for Mazynski, who put in a useful hard working shift
I wonder if NI would take two 1-0 defeats and try to nick a win aginst the Ukraine to finish as one of the four best third placed teams. Sound about right, mate?
Gorsicki on for Blascychowski, who had the assist and put in a great shift too. I think Adam Nowalka is opting for fresh legs.
A comedy of errors by the NI defense but the Poles couldn't capitalize on it.
Grosicki shoots just wide as he fails to take advantage of a poor clearance. It's given as a corner. Kyle Lafferty clears then a bout of head tennis then Milik shoots straight at McGovern.
I won't be around for the late match because I have a tutoring job, but I guess we should be rooting for the Germans.
The Northern Ireland fans are singing their anthem - "Will Grigg's on Fire."
I think the Wigan striker is a cult figure with them and is known for chipping in with some key goals. Not necessarily a consistent scorer though
Naughty by Leandowski on Ollie Norwood of the Reading Railroad. That was tresspassing.
On - Stephen Davis nearly on the end of that one.
Down to the last five minutes or so for NI to dig it out.
Steven Davis just fails to connect on a free kick from Ollie Norwood that was surely practiced at the training ground,.
OH!!!Krychowiak was just wide with a long range effort.
The final roll of the dice for Adam Nowalka as Pezko is on for Kapustka, the 19 year old talent.
Stu Dallas earns a priceless free kick - come on, you Ulstermen!
Bob will be pleased that Pisczek is booked for a foul on Stuart Dallas.
I am pleased - he's played well.
three minutes of stoppage time .
Three minutes of stoppage time to go here. Come on!
This match is much closer than I expected and Poland are minutes away from their first ever win at the Euros,
Su Su Sudio is down after colliding with the man booked for fouling Stuart Dallas.
Sussudio got a bit shaken up there, much like Phil Collins' 90s career.
COME ON YOU GERMANS!
BOOM BOOM, but very much true.
Final whistle and a first victory for Poland at the Euros. Three points in the bag for them and a bad loss for the Ulstermen.
It's over as Poland defeat the brave Ulstermen 1-0 and record their first ever win at the Euros
Poland also win their opening match of a major tournament for the first time since the 1974 WC. WOW!
I'm off to enjoy a lunch of sausage rolls and Cornish Pastries courtesy of Parker's Proper Pies.
Back for the Germans.
I won't be around for the late match because I have a tutoring job , but will be rooting for the Germans.I'm not sure when I will be around next. It was great chatting with you this weekend.
CHEERS!
