Birthday Footie Friday!
It's been a brilliant birthday so far with a lovely lie in and a pancake breakfast. Now I'm settling in with the hope that my beloved Whites can bring me a birthday present with three points attached against Derby County at Elland Road this afternoon. Join me if you've got the time. Come on, you Whites! MOT!

A very special afternoon, chaps! Back in the 70s, there was a furious rivalry between these two clubs, largely due to the on-going feud between Don Revie and Brian Clough. This peaked in a notorious 1975 match-up where Norman "Bites yer Legs" Hunter and Frannie Lee were sent off for fighting.
Then for a while, the feud died down, as the principles retired and the teams weren't always in the same league. It's back in full effect this week with a full-on Cold War-esque spy gate scandal. Bielsa has taken full responsibility and has apologized to Frankie Lampard but Lamps is still fuming about it.
Last time up we clobbered the Rams 4-1 - hoping for a similar result today.
Crikey! After all that drama, it's easy to forget that there's a match on this evening. Here's the team news:
Naughty Leeds: Peacock-Farrell; Ayling, Alioski, Cooper, Jansson, Forshaw, Klich, Clarke, Harrison, Hernandez, Roofe. Subs: Huffer, Davis, Halme, Shackleton, Gotts, Stevens, Roberts.
Mardy Derby: Carson, Wisdom, Bryson, Tomori, Keogh, Mount, Lawrence, Evans, Holmes, Lowe, Marriott.
Subs: Roos, Waghorn, Jozefzoon, Nugent, Bogle, Huddlestone, Malone.
Let's hope that all this drama doesn't distract the boys from the main business tonight. MOT!
It's so slow here with the govt shutdown that I thought I would spy on Derby yesterday as a prezzie for the fearless Blue Devil. I don't know how they spotted me. Could it be all the cat-calling I did at Fat Fwank? If so, I apologize.
Interestingly, Ali is deputizing at left back tonight. Different role for him, for sure.
Good afternoon and wishing you a very Happy Birthday.
LOL! Thanks for helping out, mate. Great to have you on board.
Welcome, MUR! How are you, mate?
Good afternoon, Steve. Loom forward to our meeting in exactly a fortnight
Doing well. Thank you for asking. Hope you're having a great birthday
A "cursory handshake" between the two managers as Derby get us underway at Elland Road. Leeds in all white and Derby in a dark blue away number.
Wahay! Could be an early penalty for us!
They're off from ER. COME ON LEEDS! MOT!
No - after consultation with the linesman, it's been ruled an offside. Bugger!
Bloody lino. Got it wrong and denies Leeds a certain penalty.
YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!ANDRE WISDOM AND NONE TOO WISE GIFTS LEEDS A FIRST MINUTE PENALTY
BUGGER! Not given because offside was called. Sorry, Bob
Definitely onside. Leeds were robbed.
The off-sides rule is a utter shambles in its present form. It needs re-working, again.
Absolutely agree, mate.
So what happened on this day 55 years ago? Well, Bob was born. Leeds defeated Citeh 1-0 at ER on route to winning the Second Division title , losing only one league match the remainder of the season.
Kemar wins a first corner for the night.
Fred says that the Black Cats were partners in promotion that season as they were in 1990.
Nice move earning another corner. Derby under the cosh early doors.
Richard Keogh clears for a Leeds corner after a spell of possession off a previous corner
Oh - big Liam misses a sitter from close range!
That was nearly an own goal as well as a miss.
OH! How did Mini Cooper not score off that corner? Was in the wrong gear as he drove the corner from Hernandez well over, unmarked from a yard out
Frankie Lamps still having a pout on the sideline.
What did you think of the birthday trivia? Thought you might find it interesting
He is really livid over the matter. Leeds playing as if that bit of scouting paid off.
Oh - Klich played Kemar in there but he shot straight at Carson.
Roofe with a long range effort straight to former LUFC Academy keeper, Scott Carson
Marvelous bit of trivia, mate. Thanks!
Cheers! More trivia , mate. Citeh finished 6th that season, the Rams 13th ,and the Canaries 17th. All were second division opponents that season
Great atmosphere at Elland Road tonight - a lot of expectation around the club these days.
Wisdom upends Alioski again and earns himself a yellow. Pablo not best pleased by that challenge and chases after him.
A horrible foul by Wisdom and None too Wise on Ali. Should be a booking. It is and rightly so.,
Wow - that's amazing.
Ali taking a long time to recover form that foul. Finally hobbling off now. Good free kick chance for us to bring up the big boys.
About that fight between Hunter and Lee in 1975. By then Cloughie had left both clubs and Revie was manager of England. Jimmy Armfield was in charge of Leeds while Dave Mackay , Clough's former skipper, was manager of the Rams
Derby don't seem to be doing much but fouling.
Yeah - that was during our championship season but there was a lot of bad blood left over from the Revie days and Clough's short stint. The clubs didn't like each other.
Another corner earned by Jack Harrison.
Jack Harrison wins a Leeds corner
Great info, Bob.
Raise it! Roofe scores
YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!
A bit of brilliance by young Jack Clarke and Kemar profits!
1-0 Whites!
Scott Carson with a far from cOnvincing punch off the corner and
GOAL !!!JACK CLARKE WENT PAST CRAIG BRYSON AND HIS PASS WAS DRIVEN IN BY ROOFE FROM CLOSE RANGE
It's as if Scott Carson knows it's your birthday as he must have remembered being at the LUFC academy. How else do you explain that birthday gift?
He can mishandle those crosses like that all night long, mate.
Frankie Lamps feeling the same way I will later this afternoon at the urologist. Sound about right?
Definitely showing why Leeds ditched him many years ago.
Sound s like the rivalry is being renewed . Does that count as a birthday gift?
Oh - almost a brilliant goal from Clarke - the boy is on fire tonight on his league debut.
Nice control and juggling from Clarke, but the finish , unfortunately , didn't match in quality
I think that Carson was part of the Ridsdale Fire Sale years ago.
That goal reminded me of something. It shows why buying Clarke shoes pays dividends. They're quality!
That sounds grim Al-Prez. Kidney stones? Harsh. Sorry.
Ayling was caught by Bryson there and that could easily have been another booking.
That was an Ayling challenge from Bryson, who gets away without a booking. Really poor
Hoping for a speedy recovery for you, mate.
No . Just an annual checkup for my prostrate exam. The two finger treatment that Lamps and the Rams experienced yesterday. Thanks for your support.
It's all getting a bit spicy out there. Hope we can keep our heads. Derby are there for the taking tonight.
Feeling great, Bob. Just an annual prostate exam. Thanks for checking.
Ugh. Hope that's a quick in and out/
Derby seem to have been rattled by that bit of impish spying. Ether that or some great scouting on his part,.
Thanks, Steve. It should be unless there's a long queue ahead of Yours Truly.
OH! Nice cross from Ali, but nobody was there to connect
Oh - great ball in from Ali but no one was running in on it, sadly.
Tom Lawrence with a shot that lands In Row L, to the delight of the home fans.
Dd go with Elizabeth this morning for her consultation for a colonoscopy that she will have in March. This will be her third. Went to Cracker Barrel for brekkies immediately after that
Tomori impedes Roofe and should be another yellow.
Tomori, part of the England U-20 squad that won the World Cup in 2017, upends Roofe.
Nice one, mate. I've only had the one colonoscopy so far. My doc said that given the clean bill of health I got at 50, I wouldn't need another until 60. Fine by me.
Bryson, having a mare, called for hand ball of a pass from Klich. It hasn't kliched for him
Cheers, Bob. I had mine in March. Two tiny polops were found, so I need to go back in five years.
Oh - Forshaw had a go from distance and wasn't too far off!
Long range effort from Forshaw swerves a few yards wide.
Oh - Clarke tried a similar ball to what led to the goal. Kemar didn't read it this time.
Oh - great block from Ayling when Derby threatened there.
Luke Ayling with ab great block off a shot from Mason Mount
Ayling needs a bit of treatment as the first half winds down.
Ayling down off that blocked shot.
Tom Lawrence wins a corner off of Roofe.
Marriott Hotel heads off the chest of Roofe from the corner and it goes harmlessly to BPF
We've got to settle down - the atmosphere is electric.
More anoraking. After your birthday Leeds only league loss of the season was at Deepdale to a PNE side that finished third , but were not promoted. They did lose 3-2 to the Hammers in the Cup Final. Leeds also lost 2-0 at Goodison in the Cup. Otherwise undefeated the rest of the season.
Every foul now creates a ruck - ridiculous. We need to calm down.
Evans goes into the book.
George Evans with a poor foul on Pontus on the break. Shades of 1975 as as Evans and teammmate, Holmes , is also booked.
Holmes was booked as well for the other foul on Pontus.
In the words of Prince, The Rams fighting like it's 1975
Harrison wins another corner. Could be the last chance of the half.
Late corner for Leeds.Carson catches the corner from Hernandez and Leeds are one up at the half
That's the half-time whistle then. We troop in 1-0 up but I've nervous about the nasty atmosphere on the pitch. We need a nice professional second half performance with another goal or two.
Half-way done BDB! MOT.
Second half underway from ER
An attacker for a defender as Dave Nugent is on. Andre Wisdom, who showed none of that, replaced.
That was brilliant from Clarke! Wow is he on fire. 2-0.
GOAL !!!ALI PUTS LEEDS TWO UP AS A PAIR OF CLARKE SHOES HAS ASSISTED ON BOTH GOALS
Sorry. It was a pair of jacks involved. Great run down the right by Clarke past Lowe. Scott Carson, doing his former team a favor , by flapping at the cross. Ali , on his bum laid it back for Harrison to tap in from a yard out
I'm barely back in my seat after a birthday call with the Gooner and Harrison has made it 2-0! Made by Jack Clarke again! Wow!
A long Rams clearance puts through Nugent, who got behind the Leeds defense , but BPF came forty yards out of a goal to tackle Nugent. Superb by BPF
Nasty challenge by Tom Lawrence. on Harrison. How did he escape a booking?
That goal will definitely settle the nerves. Derby were just getting into the match before the interval.
Oh, Peacock displaying an acute case of the Neuers there.
Kemar picks up a really unnecessary booking for a combative challenge. That's what makes me nervous about the last half hour or so here. We don't need to lose another player to a silly sending off or penalty.
Roofe called for late foul on Richard Keogh and booked. That's a bit harsh
On the replay, Pablo was definitely fouled by Tom Lawrence. Should have been a pen.
I didn't see it first time, but that guy got all Pablo and no ball
I am home
Happy Birthday mate.... so far so good!!!
I'm off for my annual prostate exam. Wishing you a Happy Birthday and a Leeds win. I will watch the remainder of the match this evening, so am asking for no updates. Enjoy the rest of the day , Bob and Steve. Happy Birthday to Kate as well.
If it stays like this, Leeds are going five points clear – and seven ahead of third-placed Sheffield United.
Not counting chickens quite yet though....
Welcome, UWS! Yeah - it's been brilliant so far.
Do you think this Spygate could be serious?
Bielsa has admitted he did it and has done it for years!
The FA is investigating.... could they get points docked?
Best of luck there, MUR!
Southgate in the stands... he could he be watching... or is it just watching the top side in the Championship?
I'm hoping that it's perhaps a club fine and nothing worse. It was a stupid thing for Bielsa to do, perhaps from his Argie training.
Can't imagine that there are any English players that could be part of the set-up any time soon. Kemar would have to prove himself in the Prem next season before he got a look in. And Jack Clarke is just a wee kid.
First change for Derby then - never even 'eard of him!
I agree... does it make it look worse that he admitted it AND said he's done it all season?
There was a full page on the BBC coverage of the match
Holmes has gone down now - not sure what happened there with P-F.
What happened in the box the with Pea/Far?
ooh, got kicked in the head
High boot there from P-F. That was nasty but I'm not sure it was intentional.
According the Beeb, Frankie is not a happy chappy about everything
The ref seems to be opting for a drop ball. And Jamie Shackleton comes on for Jack Harrison. I thought maybe Shackleton was a better fit for the left back position than Alioski, so perhaps that's what's being done now.
Yeah - Lamps has been having a sulk on the touch line all match. There was a "cursory" handshake between the managers before the match.
As it stands, Leeds have a five point lead at the top of the table having played an extra game. They are 7 points safe in the top two and 15 points safe in the playoffs
I really hope this Spygate doesn't become serious
Nice punch by Pea/Far
Nearly another devastating cross by Clarke. Cleared out for a corner.
Me too, mate. We are five points clear after this one, if the result holds but we can't afford a points deduction at this stage. Every point is precious.
Oh - Shackleton goes close now!
And another great run and cross from Jack Clarke! Kemar just inches away from it.
Another Derby change then - Waghorn on for Marriot.
Under 20 to go
Change of boots for Kemar than.
From the Beeb website
By the way, I downplayed the quality of the approach work by Jack Clarke for the second Leeds goal. More wonderful wingplay from the teenager, who has been superb tonight.
He's only 18 and is some talent. The home fans love him. You can see why.
Phew! Close call there as Waghorn, the sub, threatened.
ooh, was that a chance?
Think he was on
Jack is the bee's knees - my favorite Leeds player right now. I hope we don't flog him for cheap.
Might be time to take him off, though. I'd have Stu Dallas on at this point.
Oh - Klich was in there.
at the 80, give him a rest.
Another corner earned now - come on!
Nugget with a horribly sliced effort - well done, lad.
Big ovation for Clarke as he comes off - what a debut!
Replaced by 19 year Lee Davis. The Academy is producing some gems these days.
I like to see that camaraderie between Pontus and Liam at the back.
Oh - great cross by Alioski to Shackleton who tried a full volley. Ambitious.
Debut?
And now a great slice of a shot from Lawrence. Lovely.
Yeah - it's his full league debut tonight. He's come on as a sub several times before.
Oh - Kemar nearly burst through there. When the deflection came out, Pablo blasted into the side netting.
Leeds almost in there again
Back to Spygate.... is there an actually rule?
I'm not sure that there actually is. That's what Bielsa said, anyway. It's just unethical behavior and frowned upon.
Leeds losing rot is five minutes from being stopped
And Shackleton wins a corner off Lowe.
Back to back corners for the hosts
Both come to nothing
Lamps will use the incident as an excuse... Leeds have outscored Derby 6-1 this season!
Of course, my United got dumped out of the League Cup by the Rams
4 added minutes
I'm sure that he will. Crybaby.
Correct. Unethical, but not illegal under currect football laws of the game.
Blow up, ref!
As I say, I'm hoping for a club fine.
What position is Young Clarke?
He's a winger. Most of the time he's played on the left but he was playing on the right wing tonight as Harrison was on the left.
Great defensive header there.... just like Our Bob!!
Elland Road in full voice now.
Wag horn picks up a late yellow card for a hack on Pontus.
There it is. Happy Birthday BDB, 5 points clear after this display.
Wahay! That's my birthday present there - three points in the Championship. Lovely jubbly!
Way Hay.... Leeds are FIVE points clear!!
Great birthday present for you Bob!!
Have a great rest of the day!
Relaxing weekend with three points already in the bag!
Have a great Double Birthday weekend!
TTFN
Yep - five points up on Norwich now, seven on the Evil Blades and a full 15 points up on Forest in 7th.
Thanks, lads - great to share that one with you. It's been a perfect birthday for me. Cheers!
I've just looked at my book and noticed that we weren't on 54 points until April last season. Wow!
Congratulations on a great Leeds win on your birthday. Look forward to chatting tomorrow.
CHEERS!
