League Cup Semi-Final Time
We've reached the semi-final stage of the League Cup, the season's first serious piece of silverware, this afternoon. We're at Shite Fart Lane for Spurs v. Chelsea, an all-Premiership fixture. I'm in the office but it's quiet about so I'll be taking a sneaky peek at the match on the ESPN+ link. Join me if you're around, won't you?

Afternoon, chaps! Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have a long tradition of meeting at the business end of the League Cup. Chelsea have the slight edge in these affairs but it should be an open and honest match.
Wahay! The coverage has started on the Plus.
The teams emerging at Wemberly now:
Tottenham Hotspur: Gazzaniga, Trippier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Rose, Winks, Sissoko, Eriksen, Alli, Kane, Son.
Subs: Lamela, Walker-Peters, Llorente, Davies, Skipp, Lloris, Foyth.
Chelsea: Arrizabalaga, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Christensen, Alonso, Kante, Jorginho, Barkley, Willian, Hazard, Hudson-Odoi.
Subs: Pedro, Caballero, Giroud, Zappacosta, Ampadu, Luiz, Kovacic.
Referee: Michael Oliver (Northumberland).
Spurs get us underway at Wemberley.
The youngster Hudson-Odoi is all the buzz for Chelski these days. This will be a good chance for him to shine.
Son is appealing for something after colliding with Christiansen. Nothing doing from Michael Oliver.
Barkley tries a pop from range but it's wide of the mark.
Oh - that was a bit special. Son races away down the left again, feeds Trippier who chips to Kane who gets a terrific bicycle kick off but unfortunately it's straight at the keeper.
Oh - the young Hudson-Odor goes close again, beating Danny Rose and then firing into Gazzaniga's belly.
The match has settled a bit since the frantic first ten minutes or so.
Barkley has a go now from a volley - very ambitious.
Oh - Kane raced through there and seemed to be upended by Arrizabalaga in the Chelski goal. Should be a penalty but it's going to be reviewed by VAR first.
Penalty it is! And a yellow for the keeper.
Kane will step up to take this one, as seems fit.
And HK slams it home to put Spurs 1-0 up!
Good afternoon, Bob. Just turned on the Plus and saw that Harry Kane was not Abel to get a penalty even though he felt he was fouled by the Kepa
Harry Winks goes into the book for a tap on Hazard's ankles.
Harry winks his way into Oliver Twist's book because fouls can be a real Hazard
Afternoon, MUR - great to have you on board this afternoon. How are things in South Texas?
You're off to a sprightly start with the pun spinning. Well in!
Free kick from Willian makes it's way to Marcos Alonso, who runs the ball out of play
Cheers, Bob. First day back to school for the students and everything went smoothly. Muggy and overcast outside today
The Little Neviller explained earlier that away goals are no longer a feature of the two-legged League Cup semis. If the goals are drawn at the end of the return leg at Stamford Bridge, the tie will immediately go to penalties.
Thanks, mate. A great way to relax from a busy day
Interesting that you started back on a Tuesday. If you were up here I'd suspect making up for unused snow days but I know better.
WOW ! Sounds like a change in the rules . I guess ET has been eliminated as well.
Kante has a dig from 25 yards. It’s deflected, but only straight down the throat of Gazzaniga.
Yesterday was a teacher workday, but in most districts students returned today. Not sure of the reasoning for that
I think I picked the Gunners vs Chelsea for the final and for the Gunners to win. Sounds Like I need Chelsea to lose in the final.
Yeah - you picked Arse to win and Chelski to lose in the final. You could pick up two points for that one. Unfortunately, I picked both of these sides for the Final. So, I'll need a Spurs win here to pick up the points.
A shot from Hudson-Odoi is high and wide off a long Chelsea possession
The Gooner will not be best pleased with you, but you need that result for the PPP points.
Hudson-Odoi upends Danny Rose.
I don't think Gooner can be arsed about the League Cup. He barely cares about the FA Cup, and Arsenal have the best record.
A pair of stoppage time minutes
His cup does not runneth over. A bit naughty in terms of cup behavior.
OH!!! A miss hit cross from Hudson-Odoi swerves and it tipped on to the inside post by Gazzaniga then cleared away. Nearly an unlikely equalizer.
Oh - close call there for Spurs! Hudson-Odoi miss kicked when trying to cross but it forced Gazzaniga to tip the ballooned ball onto the bar.
It's halftime and the Spuds are one up
And that's the half-time whistle. Spurs go in 1-0 up thanks to that HK penalty but it's a tight affair with a lot to play for.
Second half underway from Wembley
We're back on at Wemberley for the second half. There's a bit of snow lurking in the sky outside my window, so I may leave a bit earlyish in order to get home before the storm rolls in.
Lots of empty seats , but it appeared that a fair number of people were headed back from the concession stands,.
Erickson fires a shot at Kepa who handles well enough.
Nice slide tackle by Rudiger sandwiched Delle Alli as he was about to shoot.
Nice night at Wemberley for a cup of Bovril, eh?
Agreed, Bob. This tie could go either way with it being played over two legs.
Oh - Hudson-Odoi nearly latched on to that chipped free kick from Willian.
Davinson Sanchez fouls Hazard about thirty yards from goal. The fee kick from Willian is too long for Hudson-Odoi and goes to Gaazaniga.
Tis the season for Bovril in Blighty for sure, mate.
Cross from Hazard headed out by Tripper for a corner off a spell of Possession. The corner was easily gathered by Gazzaniga.
Olly on the subs bench thinking about that cup of Bovril.
Long range effort from Harry Kane pushed around by the Kepa.
Hazard worked his way into a shooting position but could only fire straight at the keeper.
Long range effort from Hazard powerful , but straight to Gazzaniga
Oh - now it's Kante testing Gazzaniga. Another decent save from the Spurs keeper.
Willian passes to Kante , whose long range effort is pushed away by Gazzaniga then cleared away
Oh - Christiansen arrived at the back post from that corner and should have scored. Used his wrong foot for it.
Cross from Hazard deflected off of Danny Rose and over for a corner. The corner was headed on by Ross Barkley and miss hit wide by Christiansen from a few yards out
It's starting to snow here, so I'm off. Enjoy the rest of the match, mate. Cheerio!
Davinson Sanchez booked for hefty foul from behind on Hazard
Cheers, mate. Have a safe drive home.
A predictably cagey first leg has finished 1-0 in favor of the Spuds. This tie is still wide open.
Nice chatting with you today, mate!
