Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Top Six Sunday Morning

One reason that the 3pm Saturday matches are so rubbish is that all of the Top Six matches are shunted off to Sunday morning. So we've got United, Arsenal and Liverpool all playing this morning. First up is United's visit to Goodison. That's followed at 11am with Liverpool's visit to relegation threatened Cardiff and Arsenal v. Palace. Settle in, boys.

Morning Bob
Happy Easter

I am going to church later at 11:30 so I will be here for the entire United match

I really hope United get their finger out

8:28 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

With five matches remaining for United, they're two points behind Chelsea in 5th and Arsenal in 4th and three points behind Spurs in third. So a win today for United and a loss for Arsenal against Palace could potentially have United in fourth and level on points with Spurs by the end of the weekend. That's what Ole's boys have to fight for today.

8:28 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Morning, UWS - I hope your family is enjoying their Easter weekend.

Good morning, Bob and Dave. Happy Easter and ready for an intriguing morning of Sunday football.

8:31 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

So many times Lukaku seems like a bumbling clueless player

8:32 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

United at Goodison five years ago on Easter Sunday was a return to Goodison for Davie Moyes and his Waterloo! Bring back any memories?

8:32 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

An early touch for Lukaku is heavily booed by Everton fans.

8:33 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Kyle Martino was saying that Lukaku is not a United quality player. Your thoughts?

8:33 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Two former United players lighting it up in MLS are Roon for DC United and Nani for Orlando, who has been scoring late winners in recent matches

8:33 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Early corner chance for the Toffees now.

8:34 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Needless corner given away by United

8:34 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I sort of agree with Kyle. He hasn't played to his full potential, but is capable of being up to United quality

8:34 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Sometimes I think he is really good but, as I said, too many times he looks like he can't control, he doesn't know the runs to make and looks clueless

8:35 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Another corner for the Toffees as it's a nervous United start

8:35 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Some former MLS players like Almiron also lighting it up in the Prem these days.

8:36 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Rash fouled by Calvert-Lewin as United counter off the Toffees corner. Should be a booking

8:36 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

United passing it on the left but going nowhere and then lose the ball

8:37 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Sadly, Almiron went off injured yesterday , in tears. Not sure if he is finished for the season

8:37 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Again, United don't look interested!

8:38 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

It might be a matter of man management. Roberto Martinez certainly has him rattling in the goals for Belgium.

8:38 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Shades of Easter Sunday five years ago? Sure hope not.

8:39 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Why are the players coming out chomping at the bit

Five games... that's it

8:39 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Siggy fouled with a cat like tackle by Fred

8:39 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Sounds like you're describing the Cottagers, UWS.

8:40 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Matic gives away a corner... I'm not happy with this start at all

8:40 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Decent save by De Gea

8:41 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - great save by De Gea from Richarlison!

8:41 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Great save by De Gea from Rich Arlison off a cross from Marvin Gueye then the rebound shot wide

8:41 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Have United had it in the box...everytime they get it... they go backwards....this is JUST LIKE JOSE

8:42 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

See, back back back back and they kadoomphed by De Gea

What's the point

8:42 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Sorry, lads - Richarlison opens the scoring for Everton.

8:43 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

DAMN IT! RICH ARLISON GIVES THE TOFFEES THE LEAD.

8:43 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Good finish but why oh why are Premiership defenders fooled by the long throw. You know what's coming!

8:43 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Again, United's performance won't change

8:44 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Just a basic long throw that should have been practiced on the training ground. A long throw from Digne allowed the Toffees to dine in on United. Headed on by Calvert-Lewin with a free header then Rich Arlison scored with a free header

8:45 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Second consecutive home match the Toffees have scored from a long throw. Lack of basic defending

8:46 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Another long throw... snobs don't like long throws but the are dangerous

8:46 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What are these United players thinking....they do know they had a match today

8:47 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Actually , a volley from Rich Arlison. Poor positioning from Smalling and Dalot. Even school boys practice defending these.

8:47 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

United look like they are going to concede on every set play

8:47 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Six corners to Everton
United have not been inside the box

8:48 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Fred showing that cats don't like hot mustard as a powerful ATTEMPT FROM cOLEMAN COMES OFF HIOM FOR A tOFFEES CORNER

8:48 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Call me a snob but the long throw is Dinosaur Football. Like the long hopeful Route 1 ball into the box, it should be routinely dealt with by Premier League quality defenders.

8:49 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Finally... in the box for a split second... Rash hits one over the bar

8:49 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Just to let both of you know that in all my years as a player, I don't remember being part of a group that conceded off a long throw, yet top Prem players can't defend these. Don't get it

8:49 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Better from United .Rash should have scored.

8:50 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Definitely , Bob. My explanation supports yours. We even defended those at AYA level.

8:51 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Sure, MUR - there is no way that players should get free headers in the box from long throws.

8:51 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Horrible stat.... historically great away form followed by historically bad away form

8:52 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

United in their worst away sequence since 1981. End of the Sexton era of beginning of the Ron era? I'm thinking Ron since we drew almost every match at the end of the Sexton era.

8:52 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Gaga picks up a yellow card for a hack on Perreira.

8:53 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Marvin Gueye is Gana get booked for stamping on Fred. You can't stomp on cats!

8:53 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Nothing is wrong with Route 1 football when it is needed
As for a long throw, why is that different from a decent cross?

During my college days, our team had two types of long throws. There was mine that came in high and someone else was a line drive

IT WAS DANGEROUS!!

8:54 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The free kick from Rash is rash!

8:54 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

We did win the last 7 under Sexton and he still got axed

8:54 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I was designated to take long throws to get us further up the pitch and was successful in achieving that.

8:55 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

NO ONE IN THE BOX

8:55 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Based on that the away losses must have been the beginning of the big Ron era.

8:55 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

They will be singing Zed Cars at Goodison because that's the row where the free kick from Rash landed!

8:56 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Well, before the seven wins...we were crap

8:57 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Now United players arguing with each other

8:57 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

United win their first corner of the match from a pass from Fred.

8:57 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

A cross is variable whereas a long throw is the same every time.

8:58 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Corner to United.... stop the presses....DOESN'T BEAT THE FIRST MAN ON THE SIX

STUNNING!

The Siggy goes down and doubles Everton's lead

PATHETIC

8:58 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Sorry, boys. Siggy with a tremendous strike for 2-0.

8:58 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Toffees counter off the United corner.

DAMN! THE TOFFEES ARE TWO UP. SIGGY SCORED!

8:58 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Ole looks a bit depressed now.

8:59 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Don't know what's wrong with United today - hangover from Barca?

9:00 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Crap defending by United and classic counter from the Toffees. Corner headed away by the first man then the Chunk gifted United possession.Marvin Gueye found Siggy , who scored with a well placed shot from 35 yards out, but De Gea should have done better.

9:01 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

United players jogging back slowly on the Toffees counter instead of running or sprinting. The Toffees would not have scored if that occurred.

9:02 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

With it being Easter, I'm sure UWS would love to egg the United players!

9:03 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Coleman cuts the mustard by winning a corner off of Dalot.

9:04 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

United undone by two set pieces , one by the Toffees , and one their own. Both basic defending, which they didn't do.

9:05 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

United have the quality to be able to dig this one out - come on!

9:05 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Toffees doing what United have not . Defended properly.

9:06 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Jordan Pickford can "pick " to go to the bog and the Toffees would still have a clean sheet.

9:07 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A French connection as former United player, Schnied, fouls Pogba.

9:08 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Still no urgency from United

I don't see us coming back to win 4-2 like we did years ago
We don't exactly have P Neville to score an OG for us or we don't have Ronaldo to score or we don't have Rooney to score or even Chris Eagles!

9:08 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Decent free kick from Rash headed away. DEFENDED PROPERLY!

9:08 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

How can we lose to a team with Angry Birds on their shirts!

9:09 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Jones down off a good slide tackle.

9:09 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Agreed, UWS. A bit silly.

9:09 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I think we were three down at the half and came back to win 3-5.

9:09 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

LOL! The only way is they way we are. Gifting them goals.

9:10 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Olly needs to be an angry bird at the half.

9:10 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

At this point, I don't want to even watch the Manc derby.... the United players don't seem interested...why should I

9:11 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

More poor defending from United. That's where Ole needs to clean house over the summer IMHO.

9:11 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Rich Arlison straight at De Gea as the Toffees were gifted possession yet again

9:11 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

They need to get up for the Derby match, surely.

9:12 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

United don't look bothered to go forward with any conviction at all!!

9:12 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I will need to record the Manc Derby because I will be at work.May not want to watch it.

9:12 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Top four will be gone with a loss today so I guess I want City to win so Pool can't win the league

I like how Liverpool play much better than City but... I JUST CAN'T

9:13 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A Citeh win would basically mean advantage Citeh in the title race. How about the PPP?

9:13 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed, Bob. United definitely need a fresh start.

9:14 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed, UWS. Our chances of making the top four are slim to none!

9:15 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

If United don't come out at 100 MPH in the second half.... I WILL SCREAM

9:15 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A pair of stoppage time minutes.

9:15 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Two stoppage minutes to come.

9:15 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

If Olly is not going to be an angry bird at the half, then his girlfriend , Helen Wheels , needs to give them the hairdryer treatment.

9:16 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Rich Arlison down off an awkward landing, but then he's always down.

9:17 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Toothless

I am so fed up

9:18 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

That's it

BLOODY PATHETIC

9:18 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Toffees two up at the half off a pathetic half from United

9:19 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Sorry, lads - that was a dispiriting first half. Let's hope for better from the men in pink in the second half.

9:19 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Thanks, Bob. Definitely not Pretty in Pink.

9:30 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Will United turn it around
At least under Jose, United played really well after falling two down!

9:31 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Becky said that United have conceded 46 league goals this season. That's their worst defensive record in the Premier League era.

9:31 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Uh oh - someone's left the tuna fish out in the sun again. It's Scott McT coming on.

9:34 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Young and McTom on for Jones and Fred?

9:34 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A double substitution from Olly. One injury enforced and one his decision.

9:34 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Second half underway. STOP SUCKING, UNITED !

9:35 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Nice John Hughes reference, MUR - Molly Ringwald could scarcely do worse. Come on, you Red Devils!

9:35 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I thin Bob would agree that Olly must have mentioned to the United players that they played as if they had McTomain poisoning. McTomain for Fred and Yash for Jones.

9:36 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Cheers, Bob and LOL!Agreed!

9:36 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Second half... same as the first!

Gone are the days of coming back from 2-0 to win at Goodison
or coming back from 3-0 at half to win at the Lane 5-3

NO CONFIDENCE!

McTom just passes the ball to a blue shirt

9:37 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Pogba gets away with faffing about with it

9:37 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Rich Arlison down yet again . He could have gone off for a wank, the number of times he's been down

9:38 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Richie is down hurt again. Why didn't he just come off

Time wasting

9:38 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Looks like every Gooner's favorite player, Theo , is coming on for Richie.

9:39 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I insist that it's due to a bout of McTomain poisoning. Based on the jerseys it's a case of Digne in on some expired salmon

9:40 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Well, that's Everton's attacking threat gone. Now's the time for United to pull their fingers out.

9:41 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Everton look dangerous going forward
Ball goes thru box

Pogpants playing his tricks in the his own half... KNOCK IT OFF

9:41 AM

Coleman being told that illegal karate chops don't cut the mustard.

9:41 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

This performance has not changed AT ALL

9:42 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC BY MARTIAL!!

What is he thinking!!

9:42 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

At least United players are starting to show a little commitment. Too little, too late?

9:43 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Not sure why everyone is making a big deal over 7th place. If the Hornets win the Cup then 7th place doesn't mean squat

9:44 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Bloody hell - it's 3-0. Sorry, chaps.

9:44 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Three nil

PATHETIC DEFENDING AGAIN!!

9:44 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

De Gea with a useless punch then didn't move for the shot

9:45 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Calvert-Lewin with a shot blocked for a corner.'

DIGNE SCORES WITH A LONG RANGE ROCKET FROM A CORNER FISTED AWAY BY DE GEA

9:45 AM

Another instance where the United defender (in this case, Kung Fu Panda) didn't shut down the shot.

9:45 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Terrible by Martial again

9:45 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Toffees now three up. This one is done and dusted,

9:46 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Martial didn't try and block the shot either

9:46 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Clueless going forward

9:46 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Yash with a slide tackle for a Toffees corner. Hope they don't score again

9:47 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Almost in again!!

What was that... straight from the corner!

9:48 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Corner from Siggy fisted away by De Gea then Calvert-Lewin offside.

9:48 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Sorry. Kicked away

9:48 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Hard to blame De Gea for the third goal. With the power from that shot he wasn't going to stop that. I blame United players for not closing down Digne.

9:49 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Ole can't be blamed for this shower - this is all down to the players. About half of them should be sold off IMHO.

9:50 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

STILL NO URGENCY!!

9:50 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Martial.... get it over...nope... goes backwards.... lose the ball

9:50 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

United's worst defensive record since the 1989-90 season. That's the last time Liverpool won the league and Leeds were also promoted.

9:50 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed, Bob. Olly needs to rebuild. He needs to be given the chance.

9:51 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

BLOODY HELL! EVEN THEO MANAGES TO SCORE. TOFFEES FOUR UP

9:52 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Bloody hell - Theo makes it 4-0 - sorry, boys.

9:52 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I can't believe what is happening?

THIS IS RIDICULOUS!

9:53 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

This scoreline is completely deserved

9:53 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Both of you will be interest to read that the throw taken by Digne for the fourth goal was identical to those taken by Yours Truly , but down the right instead of the left. Was AYA defending, especially by Smalling

9:55 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Well, it's because United have completely given up the ghost today.

9:55 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The long throw was back headed by Smalling to Siggy, who put through Theo , who scored with a well placed shot past the stranded De Gea.

9:56 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

This will probably mean that they'll come back and win on Wednesday. Suits me - I need Citeh to drop points!

9:56 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

First time since the 70s since this amount was conceded

That was in 42 games

Not 34

9:56 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

United's worst defensive record for United since I was in the 8th grade!

9:56 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Martial was pulled but completely did a swan dive

9:57 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Horrible flop[ by Kung Fu Panda.

9:57 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Top Four hopes... .HIT FOR FOUR

9:58 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

What's really pathetic is that all four goals conceded were lack of basic defending from set pieces. What's happening on the training ground?

9:58 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

No one is running

9:58 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Well stated, UWS. Spot on.

9:59 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Now Martial misses the target from 12 yards

9:59 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Nice pass from Pogba, but a karate chop is well wide.

9:59 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Kung Fu should have notched a consolation goal there. Well wide of the mark. He should be flogged in the summer.

10:00 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I don't think I like ANY of these United players

I am so pissed off that they put on performances like this!

10:01 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

First player to go should be Smalling . Your thoughts?

10:01 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I would play Chong and Greenwood in the Manc derby

10:02 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Ashley Young - another one for the chop, surely.

10:02 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Number two Yash due to his age. I would start Dalot and Shaw as the fullbacks, depending on signings. Number three would be the Chunk.

10:02 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Not Cheech and Chong, UWS? Probably wouldn't pass the random drug test.

Boom boom!

10:03 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed, UWS. United playing like Cheech and Chong. Sound about right?

10:03 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Smalling definitely but there are so many players that are just deserving!

I would sell Pogba to Real
I would sell anyone

De Gea is starting to annoy me. Just talking about contract talks and then not performing. He still makes some great saves but looks really shaky back there

10:03 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Luksucku takes an age in the box

10:04 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I beat you to the pun(ch), MUR - LOL!

10:04 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

JINX! I was watching two Cheech and Chong movies last night . That's what came to mind. Would past the drug test on a decade of Sundays.

10:04 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Pogba is a difficult one. He can obviously be a match winner at his best; however, he's hopeless when he's having a sulk. I don't know when to know when he's feeling right and feeling wrong and what you would do to get the best out of him.

10:05 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

McCarthyism as Marvin Gueye is replaced after helping thrash United. OH MERCY MERCY ME. THINGS AIN 'T WHAT THEY USED TO BE UNDER SAF!

10:05 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Which movies, MUR? "Up in Smoke?"

10:06 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Pogba wants to go off to Real. I would ship him off if he doesn't want to be a United player,

10:06 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

10:07 AM

Out
Jones, Smallng, Young, Matic, Pogba, Fred, Luksuku, Sanchez and others

Stay.... Rashford.. even tho he's been pathetic as of late too

10:07 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

That sounds fair.

10:07 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That was one. The other one was about a trip they made to Amsterdam. Don't remember the name of that one .

10:07 AM

ANOTHER ATROCIOUS CORNER!!

10:07 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Not Martial, UWS?

10:08 AM
