Up Early for a Biggie
We've all barely recovered from the Man City v. Spurs Champions League quarterfinal in mid-week and here they are again, popping up like a squirrel in the backyard looking to steal some more nuts. This feels like a truly big one, a season decider but there will be others to come, as well. Settle in with a cuppa and join me for this one.

Morning Bob
Haven't gone downstairs yet but I brought my computer upstairs for the early match
I think it is the only match I will be here for
None of the others look that good!
These three games in 11 days... no one thought Spurs would get the sweep!
A win for City would help out United and their struggles for top four. What we really need is Arsenal slip ups!
I picked City to win the CL so I am out of the PPP running. I will take that as long as City did't win the Quadruple
Teams coming out
Morning boys, I hope you're doing well. I'll likely only be around for this one, too. Kate and I have a full agenda of preparing for the home study today. But I'm going to enjoy this one thoroughly.
Good Morning , Bob and Dave. If this one's half as exciting as the Cl match then we're in for a real treat
Great minds act alike..well I'm not studying anything... I AM OFF FOR THE WEEK
I will miss the kick off of United tomorrow
We're about ready to go. It's Clive Tyldsley and Lee on the microphones. Citeh in their usual kit and Spurs in a green horror show.
We are off
Thankfully we don't need to hear Arlo and City today
Man Scum Shiteh vs the Spuds is underway from the Etihad.
And away we go - let's hope we get another seven-goal thriller.
I made a comment of a Spurs sweep...I was wrong. They actually lost on Wednesday
Agreed. Should be glad to listen to listen to decent announcers although Lee was a Citeh fan as a child.
Looks beautiful in Manchester today - not so here, very dreary in WNY this weekend.
Clyde says it's 28 celsius on the pitch. That's the low 80s .That's unusually warm for April in Manchester. More like what our weather has been
First effort of the day goes to Spurs
Sonaldo with the shot..City are nervous!
Son is in already and pulls a good save out of Ederson. He's been on fire recently with Kane out of the side.
Decent save by Ederson from Number One Son, who has been a thorn in the Citeh side.
Dreary in the other side of the State too
Sonaldo - I like that!
GOAL!!
Foden scores for City..
GOAL! They're at it again! Phil Foden has nodded home his first Premier League goal!
GOAL !!!YOUNG PHIL FODEN , OF ALL PEOPLE , GIVES CITEH AN EARLY LEAD ON THEIR FIRST ATTACK OF THE MATCH
Great header from Aguero
Great moment for Foden - he needs to be playing somewhere every week.
Citeh are back on top by one point, with two goals less than Liverpool.
An all South American clash as Davinson Sanchez horribly fouls Aguero from behind
I think that goal was earlier than Sterling's goal....cue Sonaldo
He is suspended for the first leg of the semi. He didn't know about it until he was interviewed from some German station
I think it is good that Spurs host the first leg. Ajax has won at Real and Juve in the second leg and lost and drew first leg at home
Not the same recipe
Are we in for a repeat of Wednesday?
Bob was winning the title five minutes ago...now he's Huddersfield
This sucks...no more goals. Spurs were already 2-1 up and City were about to score
A couple of fullbacks warming up for Spurs - they must have a problem somewhere.
Back to the goal. The Citeh high press started it . Several shot passes later, A Great cross from Weekend at Bernie's , during the weekend, was headed across the box by Aguero and headed in at the far post from inches out by Foden
LOL! Yep, it's feast of famine for me this season.
Can't believe the Sterling we have this season.
Last season, everyone was saying how he should be dropped from the England side for the WC and he missed chances in Russia.... if he was playing like this we would have won it
It was already 2-2 on Wednesday - I feel robbed!
Agreed, Dave. Great chance for London clubs to make finals. Spurs in the CL along with nearby neighbors Arsenal in the EL. Could have an all London EL final.
At least Bob's in West Yorkshire, LOL.
Desomnd may be exhausted after watching all those matches yesterday!
Oh - Erickson was in there but hit Gazzaniga with his effort.
Manchester United Women's first season in existence won the Championship midweek with games to spare
They will be playing in the Prem next season
Rare Spurs attack Eriksen through and great close range block by Ederson for a Spurs corner.
WOW! That's fantastic to hear, UWS
Superb last ditch slide tackle by La Porte to prevent an equalizer
Sonaldo with a chance... saved!
Spurs getting their chances
Pool fans must be loving this
Oh - Erickson plays Son in there but a great recovering tackle from LaPorte.
I have an answer to UWS's question. Fewer goals to day because LA Porte is not the weak link today as he was on Wednesday
Citeh predictably controlling the possession but Spurs are having their chances, too.
They just said what I hate about modern day football!
City never put a hopeful ball into the box.
They will pass and pass
What's wrong with getting the ball in the danger area...things happen in there!!
Arsenal vs Chelsea would be an all Prem and all London EL Final. Only other all English EL Final that I am aware of was in the UEFA CUP in 1972 , Spurs vs Wolves. As far as I know there has never been an all London Final in a European competition.
Agreed, UWS. The one time Citeh put a hopeful ball in the box, they scored.
Rangers two up at the half at Hearts. A royal Flush for Stevie G
I have a quiz question for Bob and Dave, for which I know the answer. Only one Football League match being played today. What is the fixture? No research permitted.
I agree with you, UWS.
I have no idea, mate. What match is it?
I was in the loo....miss anything?
I will see if UWS knows.
Not a single thing , UWS. I have a quiz question for you.
Trying to think who didn't play yesterday
A game involving Luton Town... I don't think they played yesterday
Bernie Sanders wins a corner off a deflected long range effort.
Shot from Weekend at Bernie's out for a corner during the weekend.,
Correct, UWS. Luton is away to ??? That is the clue.
I was listening to talkSport on the bog and they said
The Varless City Spurs match is going on
Another shot by Bernie - well held by Gazzaniga.
Weekend at Bernie's straight at Gazzaniga after a cross was headed out.
Who are they?
Exactly
?
LOL. The VAR begins next season.
I agree with Lee - Gazza should have been able to catch that one.
Useless modern day corner for City
Kind of correct, UWS. Luton play at Accrington Stanley . Kickoff the same time as the late Prem match. You get credit for that based on that hilarious 80s commercial. Well done.
KDub has to come off
He wasn't touched.... done for the season?
Everything is lining up for Liverpool!!
Ginger Winger seems to have a problem now. He slipped while shooting a moment ago.
In case you two are interested, that match is on Plus today, which we can watch thanks to Bob.
What do you mean "Kind of correct"?
I got Luton and then AcStan from Bob's clue
No kind of correct at all... I got it spot on!
It seems as if the Manc Derby will be the title decider. After that , Both teams should win their remaining Prem matches.
As stated earlier, I think this is going to be my only match of the day
Agreed - that's the key fixture.
LOL. I was giving you credit in a humorous way. as I stated, you can watch that match on Plus.
Yeah - I think I'll take a pass as well. Too many things on the Honey Do list today, I'm afraid.
I believe that the Seagulls will be the last team relegated form the Prem. Will Chris Hughton be around next season?
Spurs make the Champions League Final... Southgate is screwed for the Nations League semi !
Of course, it matters not to you two....banned
Oh - Moura was nearly in there. They're well capable of nicking an equalizer. I just need a draw here and I'm back Top of the Pops!
It only matters in the sense that it might be an entertaining series of friendlies this summer.
Elizabeth has been up at her dad's since Sunday, but did my honey dos yesterday.I made up the list, not Elizabeth.
That's my first week of retirement. After the week I had, I am pleased at the decision I made. Just half a dozen weeks remaining.
You're a good man, Charlie Brown.
The count down is on, eh MUR? I'm hoping to be able to celebrate with you.
Brighton still have a game in hand over Cardiff but it is at Spurs
Today
Brighton @ Wolves
Cardiff H Liverpool
Both losses
Brighton @ Spurs Loss
Brighton H Newcastle
Cardiff @ Fulham
Both wins?
Cardiff H Palace
Brighton @ Arsenal
Cardiff win, Brighotn loss
Brightonn H City
Cardiff @ United
Both Loss
Brighton down
Oh - Son was in there again and Ederson did really well.
Sonaldo almost in again
Number One Son does to La Porte what he did on Wednesday, but Ederson is there to repel the danger.
I agree with you. Brighton to drop. Warnock mythology lives on.
So jealous David... hopefully I can join you in that club in a year
Great minds think alike. I was thinking the same this week regarding the Seagulls and Cardiff.
Of course, Brighton will crush the Gunners and Spurs... to help out United
A minute of stoppage time.
Half time arrives. We haven't quite had the fireworks of Wednesday yet but it's been an absorbing affair. Looking forward to some goals in the second half, especially from Spurs.
Half time at the Etihad
Off to shower and shave
I'll be back
Citeh on e up at the half , which hasn't quite been the match that was on Wednesday, but still a decent half of football.
Back on for the second half now - let's have some goals, boys.
Teams out for the second half
Spurs could drop to fifth with a loss here and be equal on points with United if the the A, C and MU all win
Citeh get us going again.
Second half underway
It's crazy how the Pre has not been retained since United won the last of back to back to back in 09
They were having talk on talkSport about Spurs and Arsenal
Spurs have three European titles and Arsenal only have one!
Would it be easier to have the retirement in July instead of June, so everyone is included? Know July is really hot. Your thoughts?
Close range effort from Aguero blocked then Foden with a shot deflected for a corner.
Aguero's control let him down there
Foden hits one off target
If Spurs finish fifth and win the CL , Chelsea finish sixth and win the EL then fourth placed team would be in the EL next season since only five teams from a leegue can participate in the CL.
What are your thoughts of Llorente's hip goal on Wed?
Not sure it hit his arm but...even if it did, it was tucked against his body
People say if a goal is scored from hand it does not count
I don't get it
Just read you comment, UWS. Would love for you to be able to retire next year. You've earned it.
I thought the goal from Llorente was a perfectly good goal. Don't see anything wrong with it. Citeh's disallowed stoppage time goal looked the right call too.
Ben Davies fouls Foden. Free kick Citeh
What happens if
United and Chelsea/Arsenal finish third and fourth
AND
Spurs and the non top four Ch/Ar win in Europe
Crazy... England could win both European spots and still only get four spots if the two winners end up in the top four....which could happen
Not a Sterling challenge by AJ Foyth. Decent position for a Citeh free kick
That is crazy, mate. England should get more allotments.
I think the fourth placed team would play in the EL because the maximum umber of clubs from a league allowed to participate in the CL is five.
I know we had Leicester win the league but I wish others would challenge
Having the top six is boring
I know United won forever, Liverpool did before that
The 70s Champions
Everton, Arsenal, Derby, Liverpool, Leeds, Derby, Liverpool, Liverpool, Forest, Liverpool
It's all Pool's fault
England got five when United won the EL. Top four plus sixth placed United were in the CL the following season
In the 80s Everton twice and Villa won the title. Shankly laid the foundation for this
Wanyama on for Dier now - what's the point of that. They need a goal!
Like for like as Wanyama on for Dier , whose performance has matched his name.
This match has fizzled in the warm April sunshine along with possible exhaustion from the midweek match
Rangers win at Hearts 3-1... still 8 points behind Celtic having played an extra game
Wolves vs Seagulls on NBCSN and Hammers vs Foxes on CNBC at 10. Late one is Toon vs Saints on NBC. Decent looking matches , but nothing brilliant.
I wish there was more variety in the top six but at least we are France or Spain or Italy or Germany
PSG will how many in a row?
Juve how many in a row?
Bayern how many in a row?
Barca or Real how many in a row?
Sane on for Aguero, which should add more pace to the Citeh attack
Agreed about the other leagues. At least there is some competition in the Bundesliga this season.
Bayern are in an actual race this season. Challenged by Dortmund , who won the league when Klopp was in charge. I think PSG failed to win the league last season for the first time in years and have lost two in a row!
Sane on for Aguero
City have won a lot in a row but have not been impressive at all
Liverpool deserve the league but I just can't get myself to want them to win
They win... it will the 70s and 80s all over again.... after United had the 90s, 00s and behind of the 10's
Spurs the early match next Saturday as they host the hammers in a London Derby. Will be the last early Saturday match of the season
PSG didn't win the league last year?
They won last year but not in 17
They have won 5 out of 6 and soon to be 6 out of 7
They have failed to win the title in three straight games... the funniest one was where that guy had the worst miss ever! Saved a goal!
Danny Rose on for Delle Alli. Wonder if he will play as a left winger.
Bayern have won six in a row
Juve about to win 8 in a row
Friday match is the ghost of Shankly as possible title winners Pool will host already relegated rock bottom Terriers. Should be plenty of goals.
Sterling with a point blank chance....saved
WOW! Superb De Gea type save by Gazzaniga from Sterling.
Really Sterling keeping by Gazza. The second Gazza to have played for Spurs.
Leeds fans are speculating about a potential return of their former player James Milner after the 33-year-old English midfielder, who is out of contract in the summer, was among the absentees as Liverpool revealed their kit for 2019-20
Oh - Spurs were in there but Ederson did well. End to end stuff now.
We'd love to see Jamie return.
Thank you, UWS. Got my years mixed up with PSG. Klopp's Dortmund the last time someone other than Bayern won the league
That would be a great return for Leeds.
PSG were thrashed 5-1 last weekend in their worst defeat in years in the curse of Drake. That curse was verified by some of my students.
Llorente warming up. Will he be the wildcard again?
What's the curse of Drake?
Llorente has been polishing his left arm since Wednesday.
Update
Man Utd Women are not just promoted but go up as Champions after a 7-0 over C. Palace
The Llorente Express on for Toby. An attacker for a defender. Will he steamroll Citeh as on Wednesday?
WOW !!! Were so thirsty that they royally went seven up vs Palace!
Again, City being cocky playing around with it!
I hate it!
A bit early for the Ole football, isn't it?
Drake is a rapper and a footie fanatic.Whenever he picks a team as his favorite team, they unexpectedly lose. His latest favorite team is PSG . Lost 5-1 last weekend and again in midweek.
Danny Rose is one player we don't want to see back at ER. He's definitely ready for the pasture.
This second half has been a snooze fest
Handbags in the box
Sterling trying to waste time and then gets faced by two trees
Leeds may be able to get another decent season or two out of Danny Rose.
Agreed, MUR - we all expected better after Wednesday's craziness.
Just in time to irritate UWS, it appears that David Silva is preparing to come on for a late Changing of the Silvas.
another part of modern day game I hate
Players on the bench can't be dressed to play!!
Put your shirt, shorts, socks and shin pads on in the DRESSING room...that's what it is there for!
No - it's Phil Foden, the goalscorer. Warm applause for him.
David Silva on for Foden , his possible successor, who has scored what looks the winning goal
I was looking forward to this game but it has been a disappointment to me
First yellow of the match goes to Wanyama for a hack on Fernandinho.
Wanyama with a requisite booking for the typical reason.
I don't want Liverpool to win the title but City are boring!
I just don't like the way they play....pass pass pass
Pep ruined the game I loved
Arlo and Le Socks demoted. Doing Toon vs Saints. Not exactly a marquee match.
If United win the Manc Derby then we help Pool. Sounds like a no win situation.
Looks like Citeh fans agree with UWS. Even they appear bored.
Danny Rose with a long range effort that looked really thorny.
I know!! Don't know what I want midweek!
Sterling should be booked
Will take Sparky for walkies on a lovely morning at the conclusion of this match
Every Liverpool land will be UNITED FANS!!!
I will be taking Shadow for walkies and looks like rain is about to come
Four minutes of stoppage time now.
A Barber Shop Quartet of stoppage time minutes. Not exactly music to our ears.
Handbags over on the touchline. Sterling should knock it off.
Sparky's walkies will be the identical weather to that at the Etihad.
Why hasn't Sterling been booked.... he has been involved in four of five things in the last five minutes or so
Yellow cards all round.
Gets a yellow....that should have been at least his second
Agreed. Sterling being a punk and booked after Oliver Twist consulted with his linesman
Son hasn't been sharp enough today - perhaps tired after Wednesday's heroics?
City look nervy
They're not that good
Sane laying down trying to waste time... Ref ignoring him
GET UP
Doesn't have to
That is it
City back on Top
Bob back on Bottom
Sane down and that's the final whistle as Citeh hold on to win 1-0.
That's it - Citeh pull off a key win through a goal by Phil Foden.
Off for walkies . Will anyone be around for the 10 AM matches?
That's it for me boys
I'll be doing things around the house and be able to check in to the matches but won't be by my computer
Talk to you guys tomorrow.... be here a bit after kick off at Goodison
Not quite the match we were all hoping for then. By I enjoyed chatting with you lot. Cheerio from me. I'll look forward to chatting with you tomorrow morning.
Cheers . Look forward to chatting with everyone tomorrow.
