The End of a Long Road
It's the last day of the regular Championship season. When the fixtures for this season were first announced back in the summer, my beloved Leeds United's match at home to Southampton sounded like a potential clash for the title. Instead, it's a bit of a dead rubber for both clubs. The Saints are safely ensconced in fourth but can't reach us in third. And we would need a win plus an Ipswich loss at home to Huddersfield, who are as good as relegated already. It seems improbable and yet football, as they say, is a funny old game. So, I'm hoping for a big win in front of our home support, which will at least mean that we have some confidence going into the playoffs later this month. Come on, you Whites! MOT!!

We need a bright start to settle the nerves and the crowd. Come on!
The boys who are going to do the biz today:
Meslier, Byram, Firpo, Ampadu, Gruev, Kamara, Summerville, Gnonto, Rutter, Piroe.
So, only one change for Daniel Farke this morning. Some of the home support will be gnashing their teeth to see Piroe leading the line again, but I'm not one of them. This is not the match to throw teenager Matteo Joseph into from the start.
Willy wins us an early corner - come on!
We've wasted far too many corners this season. Definitely something to work on this summer.
Cry wins us a free kick out right. I like how he's switching with Willy.
Rodon balloons a header over the bar.
Nice interchange between Piroe and Byram wins another corner.
Saints don't seem to have many ambitions today.
Bit of sustained pressure from Saints now. Comes to nothing.
Still goalless at Stamford Bridge after ten minutes.
Great ball down the line by Byram sees Gnonto cross - headed out for the corner.
Ooh - Rutter is chopped down right outside the area. A hair away from a penalty.
Firpo's strike it tipped over by McCarthy. Corner.
Good save by Meslier as Saints attack.
Bloody hell - Adam Armstrong has scored the opener. Not great for the confidence.
Gnonto nearly gets one back immediately. Saved by McCarthy!
YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!
Piroe slams home an equalizer!
Now Cry has won us a decent free kick chance out left side.
Oh - nice effort from Ampadu but someone was offside.
Ipswich have scored at Portman Road, so that's done it.
Saints very close to another goal there. Somehow cleared off the line.
Bugger! Firpo fell asleep there and we're 1-2 down. Could easily be 1-3 down!
Oh - Willy should have hit the target there. Wide of the mark.
Havertz looking for the contact but it should still be a penalty.
Oh - off the bar from Saints there. They're good for this lead!
Three minutes of stoppage time to come.
Cry crosses but no one's home.
Big shout for a penalty - nothing given.
Half-time - 1-2. Not good enough. We're losing and Ipswich are winning.
