Champions League - Gameday 6
We've finally reached the final week of games in the Champions League and things are on a knife's edge. The two English sides playing today - Chelski and Liverpool - have already qualified. However, there will be an absolute dogfight between Barca and Werder Bremen at the Neu Camp. I predict that Werder can get a draw and will knock Barca - the current holders - out of the competition. This will really open things up in the quarterfinals.

Here are today's Champions League fixtures:
Group A
Barcelona v Werder Bremen
Chelsea v Levski Sofia
Group B
Bayern Munich v Inter Milan
Sporting v Spartak Moscow
Group C
Galatasaray v Liverpool
PSV v Bordeaux
Group D
Olympiacos v Shakhtar Donetsk
Roma v Valencia
The ESPN 2 game today is, predictably, the Barca-Werder game. Should be a cracker!
Jose has announced a strong side and a desire to finish top of the group. Here's the side:
Chelsea: Hilario, Ferreira, Carvalho, Boulahrouz, Bridge, Essien, Ballack, Lampard, Robben, Shevchenko, Drogba
No room for Joe Cole on the bench, though. Is he crocked again?
There are also a couple of duff Premiership matches with Blackburn visiting bottom dweller Charlton and Boro visiting Spurs.
Here are my predictions:
Group A:
Chelski
Werder
Group B:
Bayern
Inter
Group C:
Liverpool
PSV
Group D:
Valencia
Roma
So two English, two Italian, two German, one Spanish and one Dutch.
Spartak have taken the lead over Sporting in the game that doesn't mean a lot in Group A.
Bordeaux have taken the lead against PSV. It's of little consequence, although it reinforces Liverpool's spot at the top.
Robben is apparently being booed at every touch by the Sofia fans - wtf?
Wow! While I was off in the bog, Barca have scored two in quick succession. So perhaps predictions of their demise were premature?
Oh dear, Gala have equalized! Xavi Alonso gifted a ball right in front of goal. It's 1-1.
Roma have taken the lead againt Valencia. Spartak are now 2-0 up.
Here's one for the books - Shevchenko has actually scored for Chelski! Blimey, is it his first since the Community Shield?
Gala have now taken the lead against 'Pool. What on earth is going on in that back four?
Sporting have pulled one back against Spartak and Shaktar have taken the lead - do we care?
Bordeaux are now 3-0 up against PSV - what's going on with the Dutchmen. A bit complacent?
No score in those two Premiership matches - ah, it's "The Greatest Show on Earth!"
Half-time whistles going across Europe. The Barca fans must be breathing a little easier. As it stands, they'll qualify second and Bremen will go into the UEFA Cup.
Otherwise, it's pretty much gone as I've predicted.
Bayern have taken an early second half lead against Inter - 1-0 Bayern.
And now SWP has popped up with a goal for Chelski! Who's going to score next - Carlton Cole? It's 2-0.
It's gone all pear shaped for Liverpool - they're 3-1 down now to Gala. Good thing that PSV have thrown in the towel against Bordeaux - they're also 3-1 down.
It's all over with Chelski winning 2-0 and Barca cruising it against Bremen. That'll put Chelski first and Barca second. Some group topper is going to get a nasty surprise in the draw!
In Group B, Inter have leveled it against Bayern and Spartak have completed the rout against Sporting. They'll now go into the UEFA along with Werder.
Robbie Fowler's stuck in a second header, but it still ends up 3-2 Gala. They'll now take a UEFA spot while 'Pool will top the group over PSV.
Roma have beaten Valencia, but it's moot as the Spanish side top the group. Roma is second with Shaktar going into the UEFA.
That's it for today. Over and out. I'll be cramming for my stats final tomorrow, so I'll be watching the United-Benfica match later.
