The Battle of Britain, Second Leg!
It's round three of the Arse vs. Pool show this week. We've had two 1-1 draws so far but someone has to win tonight. It's advantage Liverpool due to that away goal at the Emirates but the tie is still on a knife's edge. In the other quarter final tonight, Chelski still have plenty to do in their home leg against Fenerbahce, who come to Stamford Bridge with a 2-1 advantage.

Here are the sides for today's premier clash:
Liverpool: Reina, Carragher, Skrtel, Hyypia, Aurelio, Gerrard, Alonso, Mascherano, Kuyt, Torres, Crouch.
Subs: Itandje, Riise, Voronin, Benayoun, Arbeloa, Babel, Lucas.
Arsenal: Almunia, Toure, Gallas, Senderos, Clichy, Eboue, Flamini, Fabregas, Diaby, Hleb, Adebayor.
Subs: Lehmann, Van Persie, Song Billong, Silva, Bendtner, Justin Hoyte, Walcott.
Referee: Peter Frojdfeldt (Sweden)
We have the Liverpool team and there's one change from the side that drew 1-1 at the Emirates last Wednesday. Peter Crouch starts up front, alongside Fernando Torres, following his impressive display in the sides' league encounter on Saturday. Ryan Babel is the man who makes way - the Dutchman was poor in that weekend game. The move may see Steven Gerrard line up on the left-hand side of midfield with Dirk Kuyt staying on the right.
There's also one change to Arsenal's team compared with last Wednesday. Abou Diaby replaces Robin van Persie, so it looks as if Emmanuel Adebayor will lead the line on his own up front. Van Persie is on the bench and he may well be needed - remember Arsenal must score tonight to stand any chnace of reaching the last four. A goalless draw will see Liverpool progress on away goals. The full team line-ups are now below.
I'll be around for the first half and then I'll have to run off to class. Come on you Arsenal!
Liverpool fans having a good old sing-song with their favorite Broadway tune.
I don't like Wenger's preference for playing Adebayor alone up front. Arsenal will need all the fire power they can muster tonight in order to break down the Liverpool defense. They can't just rely on knocking one or two in from corners.
Here we go, here we go, here we go....
Crouchie scored one against Arsenal at the weekend and he's been rewarded with the start up front with Torres. I've always thought that they might be a good partnership.
Arsenal have an early free kick...
Fabregas to take....
Straight into the ball.
Arsenal have got to score a goal tonight and they're going for it early. Adebayor nearly got in there but he was flagged offside.
Adebayor's in again after a lovely move but is again just a fraction offside. Hyppia looked poor there.
Very positive start for the Arse.
Michael Ballack has scored for Chelski in the fourth minute and they're really in the driver's seat due to that away goal from the first leg.
Gerrard nearly nipped in through the center of the defense. Senderos looks a little dazed after a clash with Mascherano.
Adebayor mistimes another run through the middle. That's the third time early on. He's playing off Hyppia's shoulder and it's a dangerous game that Pool are playing here.
GOAL! Diaby has scored after a sumptuous move from the Arsenal. Adebayor had already stretched Reina and when the ball came out Hleb played the young Ivorian in and he made no mistake with a thunderous drive. Brilliant stuff. Well done, the Arse.
That goal had everything to do with Diaby's lankiness. He loped through leaving the Liverpool defender's trailing in his wake and then had the ability to stretch out and thump the ball in. Reina will rue leaving his near post prone, though. A bad mistake there from the Spaniard.
Hi, I walked in the house as they were celebrating!!
Well Done THE ARSE!!
Senderos gets booked for a foul on Stevie G.
The free kick comes to nothing and Arsenal break again and Eboue gets shot off that Reina saves well.
Nice picture for this post. Make sure you do the same for tomorrow.
BTW, I love that they scored in front of the Kop!!
Wotcher, Dave! Welcome!
HEY, Billy Bremner gets a mention on ESPN2!!!
I'll do me best. Chelski are also one up through Bollocks.
Lovely jubbly. That goal was before my time.
Are you keeping away from the other game?
Nasty stuff from Mascherano and he's lucky not to go into the book.
What scores do you want to happen in League 1?
Carlisle Swansea
Forest Br. Rovers
Southend Brighton
No, I'm not, because I have to bugger off to class at around 3:45.
Still goalless at Upton Park
Chelski already one up!
What do you think happened to Cech?
Good question. The first one is pretty much moot because I don't think we can make up the distance unless the league overturns the points deduction.
Bristol Rovers win of course.
A 0-0 draw between Southend and Brighton. Ta very much.
I didn't hear anything about Cech. Is he off? I've only got the text of the Liverpool-Arse match.
Aurelio nearly in there with a volley. I could easily see this going to penalties.
I never thought much of the European atmosphere of Anfield being too much for Arsenal. I don't think it is the same with English clubs.
He had to have surgery on a face injury requiring 50 stitches after a clash during training with a teammate.(rumor is it was Tel Ben Haim)
Kuyt went down in the area there but the referee never gave that much thought.
Southend have just scored.
I agree with you about the atmosphere. This is pretty much a Premier League match.
I guess a Southend win is better than a Seagull win
2011: A worry for Chelsea... Carlo Cudicini picks up a thigh injury.
Southend up to fourth in Division One now.
2013: Carlo Cudicini limps off to be replaced by Hilario - who has not played since 8 January. Petr Cech rushes out of his seat in the crowd to see what's up.
2014: Rafael Benitez is frantically making notes. "I have made a mess of my team selection," he might well be writing.
That Cech story sounds a bit fishy, doesn't it? You think it was on purpose?
Well saved, Almunia there.
Goal for Costa!!!!
A nice header. Where was the marking?
Rafa isn't licking his wounds now. Hyppia with a free header from a corner.
It's 1-1!
Senderos was in no man's land there.
No one has sad anything about there being any fishy business. I think the same as you
Usually the center forward marking for corner lets the guy go free. Not your center back!!
Southend are two up
It has to be said that it was an excellent header, powered back in the opposite direction and just high enough to beat the shrimpy Fabregas on the post. Perfect placement by Hyppia.
Arsenal are at sixes and sevens at the moment
Arsenal were all over the place there at the back, Almunia flapping at the cross and then some wild hacking away.
Wenger doesn't look happy does he? I wonder what's got him so worked up?
Earlier, you said you only have the text of Liverpool Arsenal. You are watching it, right?
Forest have taken the lead
West Brom are losing again
I don't think there was contact, could it be an achiles?
Torres has been going through a goal drought recently. I can't remember the last time he scored whereas I can't remember the last time Cristiano Ronaldo didn't score!
He is coming off
Oh, yeah, I am watching, but I've also got the Live Sports text thing up for the other scores. It's got text of this match but only the scores from the others. I thought at first that you were saying that Cech had been injured today.
Long may Ronaldo scoring continue!!
Right o
Wednesday have scored away at United in the Steel City derby
2030: Chelsea have been pretty appalling since they scored. As if to sum it up, Frank Lampard has all the time in the world to measure his pass - and gives it straight to the opposition. Avram Grant is not a happy man. Well, even less happy than usual.
HOW CAN THEY STILL BE IN THE TITLE RACE!!!
This match is being played at 100 miles per hour.
Great attacking stuff here.
That's it for the first half.
All to play for in the second half.
West Ham and Pompey are scoreless at half
A breathless first half there. 1-1 at the break and even more deliciously poised than at the beginning. One goal or one penalty will win it.
I know my stuff. This is what the Beeb just said
2032: A classic Premier League game at Anfield. About 100mph, plenty of mistakes, but unmissable.
I'm heading off to class and putting the tape on for the second half. Enjoy it, mate!
Chelski have taken their lead to half.
Just saw that Leeds have a tough one on Saturday. Home to Carlisle
Take care Bob,
I have to leave in an hour
I guess I am flying solo now
United vs Roma are on live tomorrow. I thought they were showing the other one.
I am pleased.
Nice shot by Crouch... saved
If Arsenal score first, surely they will go through. Costa would need two more
It is amazing how quickly things can change. I remember United were beating Porto with a few minutes left then Howard parried a shot and the rebound was put! The "Special One" went on a sprint and United were out!!
George Gillette looks like he about to nod off!!
Very close from Costa
Crouch almost deflects it in. He wasn't offside.
Wednesday have scored number two against their city rivals
Positive attacking Chelski..
2101: Chelsea make their second change, with defender Juliano Belletti replacing winger Salomon Kalou.
2103: Fenerbahce bring on ex-Chelsea striker Mateja Kezman for midfielder Claudio Maldonado. An attacking change from Zico.
A chance for Eboue to get the cross over. Wasted!!
Cup Finalists Pompey have scored against Sir Trev's team
The second half at Anfield has not been as good as the first.
United have got one back to Wednesday
Eboue crosses like a plonker again!!
Good news for Bob, Forest have been pegged back by B. Rovers
Fab has chance to get a dangerous cross from a free kick. He does his best impersonation of Eboue
Bugger,
What a goal by Torres!!!
Hammered into the top corner in front of the Kop
Arsenal's position hasn't changed at all. They just need a goal just like before the goal.
Arsenal pressuring
RVP and Walcott on
What a chance for Abedayor!!!
He misses
Cambridge have score away in the BSP
I would love Arsenal to score and hear Anfield go silent
Again, Chelski squeaking out a boring 1-0 win
Crouch is coming off for Babel.
I thought he played well
Just over ten minutes to go
Cambridge have scored a second to cement their play off position
Then they leak one in at the other end.
YES!!!!
Stevie G whiffs on a volley at the edge of the box and Arsenal break at 100 miles an hour through Walcott. He crosses it and Adebayor scores
NO
A MINUTE LATER AND COSTA GET A PENALTY
A definite penalty. Terrible defending by Kalou
Gerrard puts it away.
What drama!!!
What a finish!!
Arsenal need a another one.
The Irish plonker says that Wenger is going to complain about the penalty.
I don't see it.
2128: GOAL Liverpool 3-2 Arsenal (agg 4-3)
I cannot believe what I'm seeing. Kolo Toure drags down Ryan Babel, and the ref points to the spot. It looked a similar incident to the one in the first leg that wasn't given to Arsenal. Steven Gerrard puts the penalty into the top corner.
2127: Penalty to Liverpool.
2126: GOAL Liverpool 2-2 Arsenal (agg 3-3)
Take a bow, Theo Walcott. The young England winger skips through the midfield, passing three or four men, before setting up Emmanuel Adebayor to slide home. As it stands, Arsenal are going through on away goals.
2125: Pressure from Fenerbahce. Hilario makes a double save to keep Chelsea ahead on away goals
Chelsea scores a second.
They are still not certain. Fene need a goal to go into extra time
Into the last minute
Essien will miss the first leg of the semi-final after picking up a booking moments before setting up the goal.
Into the added time
Liverpool score the clincher.
BUGGER
Sorry Steve. I was on your side all the way
That's it.
Liverpool win 4-2 and 5-3 on aggregate.
Shame
A great game from Anfield.
Looks like an English semi final
Confirmed.
Chelsea have won.
So, it is Chelsea Arsenal for a third time in the semi final
Southend have won.
Forest have drawn
Pompey have won at Upton Park
Five Live is saying that Chelsea were awful. They look like individuals. At the final whistle, John Terry just walked off without acknowledging the fans.
Very strange.
Looking at the penalty again, maybe it wasn't so clear cut!!!
West Brom come from behind to go top of the Championship
I am off to work.
Exciting game, shame about the score.
Cheers.
What an agonizing finish there. I was leaping off the couch when Theo made his miracle run but had my head in my hands a minute later when Toure's clumsiness led to their penalty. Why can't Gerrard take penalties like that for England - does he have to be standing in front of the Kop to score?
My condolences to the Gooner.
