Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Chelsea have kicked off at Stamford Bridge. Let's be having you, chelskilad!
The stakes couldn't be higher for both sides today. Citeh could virtually ensure survival with a win today, as they'd rise to 39 points. Chelski meanwhile need the three points to jump over Liverpool to 62 points, three points behind United.
GOAL! ESSIEN! Lampard's free-kick pinpoints the unmarked Essien who finds the top corner from the edge of the box. It looks like it came off his shin and looped in past the stranded Given.
Caicedo nearly levels the scores there. The Ecuadoran should have hit the target.
Half an hour in and Chelski are looking fairly comfy at 1-0. That Essien goal may have been fairly fortunate but Chelski haven't looked likely to conceded one either.
Half-time: Chelski 1-0 up.
I am here but I can't find a link. What are you watching?
BTW, Chelsea would jump over Costa on Goal Difference FOUR points behind United
I have the Veetle Setanta link
This is the English Setanta because we have Steve Mac and Joe Cole at the ground in studio
Chelski and Citeh are back out at Stamford. It has to be said again that Chelski look reborn under Guus Hiddink. It's of course helped that Essien - today's goalscorer - has returned in good form.
My link has frozen
It's back
A brilliant ball from Essien finds Drogba who races in on goal. Onuoha saves City with a well-timed challenge just as the Chelsea front man was about to pull the trigger.
Morning, Dave! I'm on Iraqgoals after switching around quite a bit this morning. It's working well right now but I've got the sound muted while I'm watching some of the Sunday chat shows.
LiveVSS seems to have been chased out of town. I've noticed with some of my movie sites that I'll go back the day after enjoying something and the site is totally gone, replaced by the generic "Roadrunner" site. Then a few days later, it'll pop up again at another URL.
Given smothers a shot from Drogba who couldn't quite master the tight angle. Excellent save from the City stopper though.
Caicedo is replaced by Ched Evans as Mark Hughes makes City's first change of the match. The Ecuadoran has looked a bit knackered after Thursday's UEFA Cup match.
I didn't get anything from VSS either.
As I said, I am watching the Veetle link from p2p
COME ON CITEH!
Bristol City have taken the lead against Cardiff with 20 to go. Good, I don't want Cardiff to come up
Free kick for Citeh
Elano hits it straight into the wall...
Cardiff have held Bristol. That's not a result, just a bit of gossip....
SWP couldn't afford new boots after his Chelsea days
Citeh have had some decent possession in this second half but they aren't making the most of their chances. SWP had a corner a moment ago and didn't beat the first man on the post. I just don't know how professionals get away with that.
New boots or not, SWP has to be able to knock a decent corner into the danger area, right? All he does all week is train for the weekend.
Belletti off the inside of the post!!
Still recovering from yesterday's result.
Do you still think the title is over?
I would love us to win it and STUFF Costa in the Champions League!
Elano looks a bit shagged. I'd have him off pretty soon.
I agree with you, how can a professional not get it past the first man!
That was hopeless by Citeh. Rob takes an eternity to get the ball wide and then the cross is pants!!
Elano not happy about coming out. Goes straight down the tunnel
Yeah, I do. I can't see you dropping a lot of points in the run in. That result was a one-off, as Gooner said.
I do think that Liverpool are hitting a rich vein of form at the right moment and might just win the CL.
You're bloody Nostrodamus
Interesting stuff on 606 yesterday. There was a United fan who claimed that United haven't played well all season. How is that possible? You're in line to win five trophies and you haven't played well? I'd hate to see when you're hitting your best form!
I am Nostradamus. Still #2 in the league - that JediWisdom bloke is #1 and getting right up my nose!
Villa and Spurs are about to start on the channel. I'm moving my operations into the front room.
I'm wrong - the match doesn't start until noon. When are the Brits going to move their bloody clocks forward - July!?
Malouda on for Drogs.
I didn't catch any of 606 but I agree with the guy. I have said this all season.
United have not been their normal attacking, free scoring selves.
16 of our games we have failed to score more than one!!
We have had many games where 1-0 was the score. In those games, there were many chances for the other teams to get something. In previous seasons, we would have won it by 3 or 4.
I have felt that we have been winning while not playing well. I know it sounds weird but I think it is true
Robinho seems to be limping a bit after that challenge. He'll have to come off soon.
So you think that it's just been down to the defensive strength, then? Well, up until yesterday....sorry.
Yes, we are still only four hours behind. I like it right now because I don't have to rush home from work to get some midweek games in full. Of course on Tuesday I have to leave for college before it ends. It is actually Spring Break at SCCC so no class this week.
When do you guys have SB?
I don't think the Brits have changed their clock change. They used change a week before us and we used to change the first weekend of April so.. last weekend in March I would guess
Yes, the defense has been strong this season but not world beaters. I feel a lot of United's play has had possession but not that dangerous
Cardiff looks like it will hold Bristols. That is not a bit of gossip, it is a latest score 1-1
A bit scrappy now. That will suit Chelski.
Where's your bruvver?
He likes to complain about not being able to connect.
He does read the comments
JUST FOR YOU TONY!!
COME ON CITEH!!!!!!!
I will wait for the complaining email
Cardiff did hold Bristols
It's Spring Break for me this week. I've been loving it. I was so shattered after a 13 hour workday on Thursday night and I could barely get into bed. Slept for about ten hours. Feeling much better at this point. Somehow I've managed to get through the first Fredonia winter without illness, which is a bonus.
I'll be showing a few Welsh students around the area this week as a part of Fredonia's exchange program with the Uni of Swansea.
Robinho's gone off to a hot reception from the Blues faithful. What did he do to them?
My commentators said that was Citeh's first shot on target
HOPELESS
Chelski just can't get it in
Give some of those students some leeks for me.
Tell them that Cardiff, Swansea and Wrexham all stink!
They're all United fans hopefully
Malouda should have done better there. He let Dunne get back instead of shooting first time.
Well, I'm supposed to be an ambassador of sorts. My luck, they'll all be rugger fans.
What on earth was that from Etuhu? He should hide his face in shame!
Essien is still running after 90 minutes. Why can't the Arsenal boys do that? He is the Energizer bunny out there.
Make sure you study up on the Six Nations. It just happened this weekend
They just beat Italy but lost to France
Last chance saloon.... come on
That's it
Chelsea back to second but still FOUR points behind United
Because of United's uselessness yesterday, Chelsea have tied us up with GD at +33. Costa are at +28
The referee blows for full-time and it's another victory for Hiddink and Chelsea, who only win 1-0 but it was much more comfortable than the scoreline suggests.
I'm going for a shower and will be back for the Villa vs. Spurs at the top of the hour.
I have tuned in the Scottish League Cup Final with the Old Firm in between the Prem games
This coverage from Iraqigoals is from the BBC
THe game has started and Spurs have been lucky with two offside calls
JJ scores from a rebound for Spurs
Good start for the whites!
This is end to end stuff
Could have been a pen for Villa.
Gomes is an idiot to give away that throw in
Bob has buggered off. I can think of four reasons that he is not back
#1 He is REALLY enjoying himself in the shower
#2 He is on the phone to mum and dad
#3 He is on the phone with big brub
#4 He is practicing his Welsh
that would be BRUV
Villa's next two matches
AT Anfield
AT Old Trafford
I did indeed enjoy my shower but I've been on Skype with mum and dad for the past forty minutes or so. I've had the match on in the background. Spurs look fairly good today. For once, the Gooner will be delighted with a Spurs win, eh?
Ashley Young is toasting the right back every time!
I always had a feeling that Villa might not be able to go the distance in a busy season with a small squad. Those two matches coming up look particularly tough.
But Ashley's final ball is rubbish.
Well, let's hope the second one is tough. The first one be a cracker!!
Have you seen Newcastle's run in? It's horrendous!
21 March - at home to Arsenal
4 April - at home to Chelsea
11 April - away to Stoke
18 April - away to Spurs
27 April - at home to Pompey
2 May - away to Liverpool
9 May - at home to Boro
16 May - away to Fulham
24 May - away to Villa
They'll need maximum points at home against Pompey and Boro. That would give them 35 points. Can they get a win against Stoke or Boro or Fulham away? Maybe. That would be 38. They'll probably need another win in there somewhere. They could easily go down.
If this scoreline sticks, Spurs will be safe IMHO or 35 points. They should certainly be able to gather five or six points from the final nine matches. But can Newcastle get 11 from 9? I'm not sure. If they went down, I could see them having real financial problems.
Nearly a second goal via an og from Zat Knight.
I am back from picking up Tom.
I agree with your comments
Thanks for the complaining email Tony
Milan with a stonking 5-1 win today with a brace from my boy Pato.
Chelskilad, Chelskilad, can you read us on the blog! Caaan yoooouu reeead us on the blog!
Last minute in Glasgow
I saw that Becks should have with the last kick of the game
I've put out an inquest with Bivalve about her friend Lee. He's signed up as BantamAbroad as a "follower" of the blog and perhaps is lurking out there in the ether. I was looking forward to a healthy Yorkshire rivalry with him. Lee, if you're out there, come on in, the water's fine. We won't bite.
Becks should be back here in LA preparing for the MLS season to start next week, not faffing about in Milan IMHO.
LET'S BE HAVIN YOU CHELSKILAD, LET'S BE HAVIN YOU
Half time at Villa Park
Spurs go in 1-0 at the break. Heskey might have equalized a moment ago but struck the woodwork.
Extra time at Hampden
Hi Guys .
I am here . And I have read all the
comments .
Well done Chelsea !!!
Come on Spurs . It will make things
much happier down the pub if they
win .
BTW, I thought the referee got all the decisions right yesterday at OT. Two penalties and the sending off we all spot on
Celtic just scored after a minute of extra time
Bob, the landlord at The Walnut Tree(Chequers)is a Spurs season ticket holder. Tony has been to a couple of games with him
Hey Tone
They're out at for the second half in second city
Afternoon, Tony!
Tony is like the CIA
He is following us all time time in secret!!
Ah, that explains it. Good stuff. My dad used to consider himself a Spurs fan but he's gotten on the Arsenal bandwagon in the Arsene era. Shocking behavior.
When did Spurs change their right back?
The other one was burned every time AY got the ball
Good afternoon Bob .
Hope all is well with you and your
family .
Hello again little bruv .
A lot of chatter on 606 yesterday about the possibility of Liverpool having to play a CL semi on April 15, the anniversary of Hillsborough.
I don't quite understand why that would be such an issue. Surely they've played on that date since? It's one thing to think it insensitive to force them to play at HILLSBOROUGH on the date but anywhere? I don't know - do you?
GOAL! It's either a Robbie Keane goal or chalked up to Darren Bent who tapped it in on the line but it won't matter as much as the scoreline.
2-0!
Spurs double their lead
Brad F. spills another one. Keane gets the rebound but I think it was Bent's goal
Thanks Dave , You have blown my secret
cover . I'll be listening in even more
in future .
Half time of extra time north of the border.
How many other ways can I describe Scotland
Lennon and Keane are running riot down the right at this point.
You know, when I was in college, there were loads of people who used to joke about my dad actually being in the CIA and using the DODDS cover. A bit of a laugh, knowing the old man as I do.
VSS is up and running now
I had to give up FSC for Duke's ACC Championship game for Matt
Lennon inches away from a third. Your publican friend is going to be a happy chappy, Tony.
Spurs almost in again
You should try VSS later in the evenings. It's got all sorts - tennis, snooker, darts. The lot.
Will do
Windies vs England Twenty20 later today on VSS
That sounds good. I'll definitely be dialing that one up.
Carew on for Zat Knight!!
Just a heads-up that I'll be posting an 80s trivia tomorrow with a Spinal Tap theme. I'll be expecting full marks from both of you!
Villa could still get something out of this. I've never fancied Gomez in goal and a bruiser like Carew might just rattle him a bit.
I will get all correct with NO CHEATING!!
Of course, my brother was in the only SPINAL TAP POP QUIZ hosted by Mike Reid in Studio 2 of Abbey Road
Gomez proving me right with a horrendous piece of handling there.
My link is very choppy right now. It keeps freezing for a couple of seconds
It is Alan Parry and Andy Gray on the microphones
Oh, that must have been brilliant!
Gomez flapping again, saved by the ref.
Nice save by Friedel
Speaking of British radio, did you follow the scandal involving Jonathan Ross and that big-haired comedian Russell Brand crank-calling Andrew Sachs (Manuel from Fawlty Towers)?
Yes, that was months ago.
Brand was fired and Ross was suspended
Yeah, I caught on to it through some of my mother's clippings from the Guardian. I was surprised by Ross, who I'd always thought of as a safe entertainment like Terry Wogan. Not by Brand, who seems a bit of a twat.
Celtic score a last minute goal
They win 2-0
Free kick chance for the Villans... useless.
That was a David Bentley type free kick. Straight out of play. Young is complaining to his teammates. WHAT COULD THEY HAVE DONE!!
I thought Ross was a twat too
CIA, what do you think about Jonathan Ross?
Spurs nearly carving Villa open again.
ACC update
Duke 29 Florida State 15
Five minutes left in the first half
I like March Madness. It reminds me of the FA Cup
I'm back again .
I had to go in the other room and
wash some dishes . What a bore .
I will look in at that "Tap" quiz .
Not that I'm any good at that stuff .
Well, I've never liked the lisp but that particular kind of speech impediment seems to be tolerated in Britain.
Good old Duke - stick it to the Noles. I'll have a laugh at my Tally friends' expense.
I got fed up with the pausing.
I am now on Veetle with the FSC coverage
March Madness is the only time I have any time for basketball.
Why is Ags coming off?
Delfonso(who?) is coming on
The Dukies are Matt's team.
I like them and Syracuse
What is March Madness ?
I never have any time for basketball
Spurs would be up to 11th with this win.
The would be only 5 points off the zone but that may be enough anyway
O'Hara on for Modric to shore things up. Modric has been disappointing this season. I thought he was really useful looking in the Euros, but Gooner called it that he'd be too lightweight for the Prem.
GOAL! I called it. Cross to Carew who powered it past Gomez, who didn't move. Game on!
The CIA is there!!
It is the College Basketball tournament
There are 64 teams that are seeded in four brackets.
You have the bigwig colleges playing the little ones.
The little ones win sometimes.
The brackets get announced today.
There is all day basketball on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday next week.
The next round is the next week and then the Final Four is in the week after that
Game on
March Madness is the NCAA college basketball championships, Tony. As Dave said, it's a knock-out competition like the FA Cup, which makes it much more exciting than most American sports that are set up on an endless play-off basis. The draw is later tonight and it kicks off later in the week.
You beat me to it, Dave!
I shouldn't laugh at FSU really. The Gators, after winning it a few years back when I was still in Gville, are ranked 48 right now. Rebuilding era, I suspect.
I like your point about it being a one off game unlike most American sports
I started getting into it when I was teaching. There was always someone who organized an illegal pools that I chipped in on.
Thanks for the info . I might be able
to watch some of that . Though I did
say might !!!
Duke up by 14 at half
3 added minutes
That's the main problem with MLS, really. The entire regular season means just about nothing. Why bother showing up in the dead of summer to watch Columbus and Real Salt Lake? Then there is the issue of promotion and relegation, no single table, no championship, and on and on.
That is EVERY American sport
Dave's right that it's seeing the minnows winning against big teams like UNC and Duke that makes it fun.
True, but it's particularly glaring with relation to MLS because it's the only footie league in the world that's set up that way.
That is it
Well done Spurs
Save your win for next week Villa
Take care everyone, I am off to take Jon to birthday party and then off to the store with Kathy
Take Care Bob and CIA
Cheers
Dave
Why are American sports all like that
Well done Spurs . I'll have a nice
Pint tonight .
Full-time: Spurs pull out a 0-2 away win that sees them safe for another year in the Prem. Villa's CL challenge is definitely rocking now. It's a terrible home loss for them and they've got plenty of difficult matches coming up.
I don't honestly know, Tony. And I don't know why the fans keep showing up for meaningless games. Baseball is the worst of it. There are so many matches they count the tables based on the percentage of wins and losses rather than actual points. Why bother showing up in June?
Thanks for your company . See you
later .
Cheerio lads! I'll be off all week so I'll probably be blogging a bit more than usual. I may be on tomorrow for the Hammers. Talk to you soon.
