Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

As of 5 p.m. EST, it's a done deal. Wee Mikey has passed his medical and has signed on a free for a two-year contract. He'll take a huge pay-cut from his £110K a week at Newcastle and mainly get bonuses for play and scoring.

What say you, United We Stand? A good deal or a 29 year old crock waiting to happen?

I actually mentioned it to Kathy last week. I thought that SAF should go after him

BOY, WAS I RIGHT!!

I like it. If he still has it, SAF and United will bring it out. It will be good for United AND England.

Great deal. Owen coming off the bench is an option Arsenal would love to have, but his wage demands are too much for us, and his propensity for injury too risky. Man Utd have the money and the squad depth to take this gamble.

I think you're right, Gooner. Owen in the role that Ole Solksjaer played toward the end of his career. Another sniffer who knows his way to goal bombing off the bench when the Rooney/Berba combo isn't clicking. Could be useful, but I'm not sure that wee Mikey understands that that'll probably be his role. Will he be a big sulker on the bench? Does he expect the United move to be an automatic route back to the England squad.

Moving to United can't hurt his chances of an England recall. I am not sure what role Owen will have at United. He will get his starts but also come off the bench. If he is successful with that, then he could play the same role for England

You're probably right. Playing in a team that of necessity uses a rotation system will probably benefit Owen, whose body just can't stand up to the pressure of being a first choice striker for a lower echelon Premiership team. Could be a good move for all considered. I hope so, because I've always had a soft spot for wee Mikey.
