Laurent Blanc Cleans House!

After France's disastrous performance in South Africa this summer, we all knew that new coach Laurent Blanc would drop a few players. However, the news out of Clairfontaine this morning is that Blanc has taken the bold move of suspending the entire 23-man squad for the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers. Wow!

Meanwhile, it's not too soon to start thinking about the England's Euro 2012 campaign. Here are the dates to note in your footie calendars:

I thought he only suspended all of them for the friendly in August

I checked on Wikipedia and my understanding is that the players are suspended for the friendly. Blanc stated that the players are suspended for his first match in charge. The caretaker president of the French Football federation stated that it is highly likely that Franck Ribery and Karim Benzema will not play for France again due to a sex scandal.

Yeah - you're probably right; I was jumping too quickly to conclusions there. My apologies. Still - you couldn't really blame Blanc if he had just cleaned house entirely. Benzema and Ribery shouldn't ever play again and those who failed so badly in SA should at least be chastened by being dropped for that first friendly that Blanc is in charge for. Big chance for Samir Nasri then.

Big chance for Nasri. Blanc's a bigger appeaser than Neville Chamberlaine if he continues to punish the French players. Don't forget that part of their mutiny was over the questionable stewardship of the simply barking Raymond Domenech. The players handled themselves so poorly that they put Cap'n Bligh Domenech's bizarre reighn in the shade of the overall discussion.
