Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

The teams are on the pitch. The match will start in a few minutes.
It is hard to believe that there is a preseason match just five days after the World Cup Final
The teams kick off.

Obertan skews his shot wide after putting together over twenty passes.United make it look so easy.
Berbatov heads high and wide after a great cross from Diouf.
Celtic play a long ball to Crosas, but Evans is Jonny on the spot.
Scholes plays a fifty yard ball to Obertan. He passes to Diouf who shoots well over.
Fortune crosses from the left and Fabio heads out for a corner. The corner is straight to VDS.
Fabio fouls Mark Wilson. Free kick to Celtic. The free kick from Mulgrew is headed clear and United attempt to break, but Berbatov fails to control the pass.
Celtic win a corner off of Smalling. United clear the corner.
Fabio wins a corner for United.Giggs takes the corner and Smalling is called for a foul.
Fortune goes past Evans, but Evans recovers and concedes a corner.VDS punches the corner clear. Throw to Celtic.
Fortune wins another corner off of Evans.Celtic take a short corner. and United eventually regain possession.
United break through Rafael and he passes to Obertan who shoots wide with just the keeper to beat.
Giggs passes to Diouf who back heels to Berbatov who shoots just wide from 25 yards out.United starting to pile on the pressure.
Berbatov wins a free kick as he is fouled by Maloney. The free kick is cleared by Celtic.
GOAL 1-0 UNITED !!! BERBATOV SCORES WITH A CLINICAL FINISH.
Obertan showed great skill by going past two players . He passed to Diouf who passed from the left for Berbatov to finish. Diouf is looking like a really great player.
San Jose vs Spurs will be broadcast on ESPN tomorrow at 4 EDT .
Forrest shows Fabio a clean pair of heels. His cross is poor after a great piece skill.
Fortune tries to win a free kick, but the ref waves play on.
Evening, MUR! Sorry to join you late. I was delayed at a retirement dinner for a couple of colleagues.
How has it been so far?
A great move from Celtic see Ledley's shot bounce off the side off the post. They get a corner.
The commentators seem to be drooling over Berbatov. I see that he was the goalscorer. Has he been that good?
I that United old boy Quintin Fortune that I spy going up against Fabio there?
Good evening BD. United have been the better team and deservedly lead 1-0. Celtic have had a few good spells. Obertan showed some great skill setting up the goal. Diouf had had a good first half as well.
Halftime and United deservedly lead 1-0.
And that's half-time. I've enjoyed reading your comments about the first half. I'll look forward to seeing the highlights.
Berbatov has benefited from good service more than anything else.
Blimey - it's Max Bretos on the half-time show. When did he make the jump from FSC to ESPN?!
To answer your question,BD, Berbatov deserves credit for a great left footed finish. Scholes played a nice pass to Obertan as well.
Silky smooth finish from Dracula there. You must be pleased with that. It he started clicking along with some goals in the Premiership, you lot might be a real force.
I'll look forward to watching Diouff in the second half - he sounds pretty handy.
You are absolutely correct. I have not seen Max Bretos on ESPN prior to this evening. Tomorrow ESPN will show Spurs vs San Jose and Sunday will be Celtic vs Seattle.
I'm happy to report that new striker Billy Paynter scored his first goal in a Leeds shirt today against Slovakian outfit Kosice in a 0-1 win in Slovakia. I'm expecting great things from Billy this season.
I forgot to mention that Chris Smalling who was recently signed from Fulham had a solid first half at center half. A potential starter for England in the near future? Dracula may do better now that Hernandez has been signed and he knows that there is competition for his spot.
Nice one - I appreciate the effort. ESPN Summer Soccer Series. Who would have thought it five years ago. It's amazing how much footer we get these days. My dad was lamenting the end of the World Cup but to me it seems as if it never stops.
Was he the striker that lots of goals fro Swindon? I have heard that he is a real prospect. That should help Leeds in the Championship.
I don't mind at all. I see more footie now than when I was living at Lakenheath. How ironic.
The announcers mentioned that Celtic have an American keeper warming up. He played in the 0-1 loss to Philadelphia and played for the University of Tulsa. The teams kick off.
Yeah - the same. He gave us fits last season. Scored a hat-trick in one and a brace in another match with us.
Here we go with the second half.
Darren Gibson, a halftime sub shoots well over after great skill by Diouf and a pass from Drac.
I agree. I think that with access to the games on the Internet speakeasies we have more coverage than my dad has in London.
Both teams have made several substitutions.
Who was the kid who gave the ball away and then ran back to foul there? I don't recognize him.
Georgie Samaras nods home but it's called back for something. The beer toting Hoops fans in the crowd are not best pleased.
Samaras heads home the free kick, but is flagged offside. Great call from the linesman.
Biff - that was a nice uppercut from VDS to Samaras there after the ball.
I think we will see some unfamiliar faces in the second half. Are you familiar with Celtic's American keeper?
It's clear that Fergie has not spent the summer on the treadmill.
It's incredible to believe that six United players are being rested due to their participation in the World Cup. They are still taking Celtic to the cleaners.
Not at all - it sounds like he skipped the MLS step, went straight from University of Tulsa to Europe.
I will have to get a look at Fergie. I have not seen him today.
Okay - the six would be Rooney and who else? Does Michael Carrick really need the rest? He didn't get on the pitch. You'd think that he'd want to stretch his legs.
Free kick to United just inches outside the penalty are aas Diouf is fouled after great work from Obertan.
Why was that not a pen? Free kick just inches outside now....
Deflected out for a corner.
The free kick is deflected for a corner. Celtic clear as they defend frantically in their own box.
Mad scramble in the box now. Could easily have been 2-0 there. This match reinforces the feeling that Celtic, were they to join the EPL, would be a mid-table side alongside the likes of Fulham.
Celtic block three consecutive shots after great spin move from Drac.
Lovely spin from Drac but the shot is blocked and another from Fabio. The color guy calls it a "Maradona move" but was that not the patented Zizou "Roulette" move?
Penalty as Smalling pulls down Ledley
Uh oh - Smalling hauls down Ledley and it's a penalty for Celtic.
Samaras to take and...
1-1! Game on!
GOAL! 1-1 as Smaras blasts the penalty in the upper 90.
Celtic fans now have something to have a drink over.
To answer your question I know Rooney, Hernandez,Vidic, and yes Carrick are being rested. I am not sure who the other players are.
That was a close call as Samaras broke down the left, but no Celtic players were in the box as he crossed.
Fortune is fouled as Wes Brown has struggled.
It's good to see Fede Macheda get a run out.
That was great break by United, but Cha do Ri defended really well. He must have sprinted half the length of the field.
Yes he did well on that break. I noticed that United have a young Belgian at right back. SAF wants to get a good look at the youngsters.
The announce said he spent eighteen months on loan at Stoke.
Cleverley and De Laat looked more like reserves than starters on that attack.
VDS saved well from Marc Antoine Fortune.
I agree - I don't expect to see much of Cleverly and De Laat.
GOAL 2-1 UNITED AS WELBECK SCORES A SIMPLE TAP IN AFTER HE PASSES TO DRAC AND DRAC RETURNS A RATHER CLEVER PASS.
This has to be one of Drac's best performances in a United shirt. I think he knows that there is someone waiting to take his place if he does not improve upon last season.
Nearly 3-1 as Zaluska tips Macheda's shot around the post for a corner.
Welbeck seemed almost bemused byu picking up that goal. A strange reaction.
I agree. He did seem surprised.
GOAL 3-1 AS CLEVERLY SCORES A DEFLECTED GOAL! A GREAT BACK HEEL FROM DRAC WHO HAS A GOAL AND TWO ASSISTS.
GOAL! After knocking people over all game, Cleverly picks up United's third after a nice touch from Drac.
I criticize Cleverly and then he scores. Drac has had two clever assists tonight.
I got a good look at Fergie. He seems to be about the same weight that he has been the past few years. I think he was much thinner in his earlier United years. I cannot criticize as I am guilty of the same offense.
I agree - it is rather like the pot calling the kettle black for me to criticize Fergie.
The standard of play has been pretty good for a preseason match. Better than some World Cup matches.
That is a final and United win 3-1 The score might be a little harsh on Celtic.
Hey Guys,
I didn't know you had a link going for the match.
I enjoyed the match on my couch with the missus
It has been great chatting with you as you had a busy evening. Are we doing San Jose vs Spurs tomorrow?
Hello UWS. What did you think of the match?
Full-time: 3-1 United. You must be pleased by that. Your lot looked good tonight.
Nice of you to join us, UWS!
The QUALITY was in Toronto.
I feel the match was better than most of the WC games
Berba played well. He did look fed up a lot but some his passes were great. His goal was clinical!
Overall I am very pleased with the stars and the kids!
As for ESPN.... GET NEW COMMENTATORS!!!
AND... SPORTSCENTER NOW in the middle of the second half!!
I am a happy chappy.. must be my United flag proudly hanging outside my house!
Some good stuff on tomorrow. Chelski v. Palace and Arsenal v. Barnet on at 10 am and then Spurs v. Earthquakes in the afternoon on ESPN. Care to join me?
I agree. I am not sure why SPORTSCENTER had to be in the middle of the match. It doesn't make sense. I was pleased with Diouf and Obertan had his best performance in a United shirt. Chris Smalling had a good match, but showed his inexperience when he gave away the penalty. Celtic showed that they are a decent side.
I will join you. Will we do the morning matches as well?
I agree with you about commentators, UWS. Strictly the "B" team - they've given the first stringers the rest of the summer off. I think the color guy referred to the "legendary Celtic manager Jack Stein (rhymed with "mine"). Oy vey!
Still...I do appreciate the effort. Mustn't grumble.
I'll be around in the morning, sure. I'll look forward to it, lads. See you then!
I will be around. I see everyone tomorrow. Take care UWS and BD!
Thomas was out with his friend... a girl that used to be his girlfriedn. He just got home, he wants to watch the match now!
Obertan was okay... a little too many step overs for my book. Smalling was a silly boy for the pen
I will be around for some tomorrow
Take care
UNITED!!!!
