I'm still here in Blue Devil HQ this morning and will be jumping in the car and burning down the highway to DC this afternoon and watching the Uruguay v. Ghana match on tape delay with the Gooner.
More big news out of Man Citeh this morning. After having signed the diminutive Spanish midfielder David Silva yesterday, they've nabbed Barca and Ivory Coast dynamo Yaya Toure who will join brother Kolo at Eastlands.
By my count, that's about 48 players in the senior squad at Citeh or about four choices for each position (Yaya, for example, will have to edge out Nigel de Jong, Gareth Barry and Patrick Vieira). Can anyone say "salary cap?"
Good morning BD
I am here
I have the footer on the TV and an atdhe link for tennis
Murray/Nadal is later
Good morning Blue Devil.I agree. Citeh have to be considered a title contender. Brazil and the dutch also met in the 1998 semifinal which Brazil won in a penalty shootout. The Dutch last defeated Brazil in the World Cup 2-0 in 1974.
Citeh are ridiculous! United have never been like that!
Why would Landon even consider going to Citeh??
Good morning UWS. I noticed that Roger Federer failed to make the final for the first time in eight years.
The team news is in for today's match:

Holland: Stekelenburg, Van Der Wiel, Heitinga, Mathijsen, Van Bronckhorst, Van Bommel, De Jong, Robben, Sneijder, Kuyt, van Persie. Subs: Vorm, Boulahrouz, Ooijer, De Zeeuw, Braafheid, Elia, Schaars, Babel, Afellay, Huntelaar, Van der Vaart, Boschker.
Our referee is Yuichi Nichimura from Japan.
Morning MUR
How's the weather?
Morning, lads! Great to have you on board.
Hello everyone. The weather has improved. The storm did not cause ant real problems. It is really humid today. The worst of the weather was on Wednesday.Thank you for asking.
Yes - I'm hoping that you've been able ride out Alex safely, MUR.
Teams that are left in the draw have won 12 out of the 18 Cups
The other six wins... Italy 4, England and France
Italy and France did the double. Their team and their officiating crew were both sent home.
Teams are in the tunnel
A Dutch player is hurt during the warm ups
The Dutch central defender Mathijsen is out; Andre Oojier is in at the last moment. Wow!
Yes BD. We put the lawn furniture in the garage. The main problem was the rain. We received about 6".I appreciate everyone's concern.
The teams seem rather chummy with each other in the tunnel. You didn't see that with England and Germany.
The three European teams in the quarter finals is the least ever!
Here come the teams
That is not a good sign. Andre Ooijer is past it or so I thought. I find it hard to believe that the Dutch cannot find a better defender than Ooijer.
Four South American teams is the least ever in the quarterfinals. I do no think Argentina and Germany will be chummy tomorrow.
I have lost my link but I will continue to annoy BD and give Wimpleton updates
Berdych has won the first two sets
Van Persie watch is over; Gooner has graciously accepted defeat. Looking forward to some tasty microbrews this weekend.
I meant to say most ever for the South American teams. I had a Homer Simpson moment.
Four SA teams is the MOST ever
Beat me to it
One thing that annoys me about the US media is how they describe the winners of the tournament
They say "World Cup Winners"... NO they are WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!
They love the term when it comes to the Yankees, Saints, Lakers!!
The Brazilian players seem to get along with each other. The Dutch players hate each other.
Come on guys... play an attacking game!
The teams kick off.
We're off
Why do Brazil need to change their strip?
Yellow and Orange don't clash!
The Dutch get us underway in what I'm hoping will be an enthralling match that ends in the 90 minutes, because I have to hit the road!
That was a push!!
I am still jealous about your DC jaunt
Webb didn't get a quarter final match
Saving for Semis? Final?
RVP goes down early in the box. Was that a push from Juan? I've seen them given.
Teams have started testy!
Now Robben has gone down and Robinho is not happy about it.
I am not sure why Brazil changed. The teams wore yellow and orange when they played each other in 1974,1994,and 1998. I agree with you about the term World Champions.
If it was outside the box it would have been given
I am not sure about that
They both changed in 74.. Holland wore white and Brazil blue
In 94 it was blue and orange
Not sure about 98
They wore their main shirts in 98
Actually, if I remember right, Brazil were in blue and the Dutch white in 94. I don't know - orange and yellow are in the same part of the color spectrum. I can sort of see white they might want to go with clearer alternatives.
The uniforms are a repeat of '94. Thank you. I was not sure.
The FA have announced that Fabio will stay on as manager
"we will look to introduce new players to give the team new energy'
Oh - that was a tight offside goal there. Play runs on and Robby nets. But the flag had been up. Dani Alves was a step off there. Nearly in.
Useless cross by Maicon... where's the quality?
The goal is called back for offside.Danny Alves was flagged offside .
I'm fine with that. I'm not one for blaming Fabio Capello for England's failures this summer. The main problem in the end was the Algeria match. If we'd won that, we'd have avoided Germany in the Round of 16. And then...who knows?
GREAT GOAL!!
WHAT A PASS!!!
Cool finish!!
GOAL !!! 1-0 BRAZIL ROBINHO HAS SCORED AFTER A NICE PASS BY FELIPE MELO.
WHy is Robben the closest to Robinho
GOAL! Now it is a goal from Robinho. Holland were simply sliced open there. Felipe Melo simply played a through ball to Robby and he finished with ease.
1-0 Brazil!
Robben seems to have been given instructions to stay with Robinho. Don't know why. The Dutch defense has definitely been thrown off-balance by that late change.
I'm not sure that early goal is great for the game. Brazil might well go into their shells now.
Well, Holland have to go forward
The move for the goal started with a short throw deep in the Brazilian half. The two central defenders passed back and forth, then Melo surprised the Dutch with the long ball.
Heitinger goes into the referee's book far too early. He's under pressure now going up against Luis Fabiano.
Unless the Dutch make some adjustments, they will be in for a long day. Heitinga is booked for an off the ball incident. Free kick Brazil.
I agree. Probably the best way to get back into it is to push Brazil around at set pieces. That was how they got back into the match in 94. Probably the only soft level to Brazil's defense, as they usually do zonal marking at corners and free kicks.
Danny Alves shoots well wide. Brazil should win this match comfortably. I predict three South American teams in the final four.
Did you see some rumors that Honda wants a move to the Prem (Arsenal and Costa are interested)
Bastos is called for a foul on Robben.
I'll say it again, Arsenal don't need another attacking midfielder. They need a world class goalkeeper, at least two center backs and a decent 20+ goal a season striker. RVP proves my point there with a Jabulani.
RVP does his best Johnny WIlkinson impersonation!
I had not heard about that. Will Hinda be able to adjust to the EPL? RVP Jabulanis the free kick over.
I agree BD. Honda does not address Arsenal's needs. He will not get a game with Citeh either. They are three or four deep at that position. A team like WBA or Blackpool would be more realistic for Honda.
This is where I've been getting my transfer news and gossip:
http://football365.com/story/0,17033,8671_6241604,00.html
I've already mentally moved somewhat onto dreaming about the 2010/11 domestic season.
Citeh are three or four deep in every position! If I were a really good young player, the last place I'd got is Citeh, unless I were absolutely guaranteed a first team spot. The money can't be enough to destroy your career.
Robben is muscled out again by the Brazil back four. He's the most likely person to do a bit of Dutch magic.
The referee is indicating to Michel Bastos that he's on his last warning.
I agree. The rest of the Dutch seem mentally asleep as if they have accepted their fate.
Sneijder hasn't gotten into this match yet.
Berdych is going to be serving to make the Wimbledon Final
De Jong very clumsy there. Took out the ball, Kaka and much of the turf. Right on the edge of the box.
And now Juan has a chance about eight yards out. Jabulanied it.
Ber-who?
Juan shoots over after the Dutch failed to clear a poor corner from Danny Alves.
Kaka is fouled by Ooijer. Why is he starting?
Berdych (12th seed) has won in straight sets against third seed Djokovic
Not a bad encore after beating Fed
Dani Alves over a free kick here. A header in here now might well kill off the game.
Luis Fabiano finds himself free around the penalty area but heads well over.
Luis Fabiano heads well over from Danny Alves' free kick.
Beckham is at Wimbledon... watch the footer lad
Djoko-who?
That was a nice run by Maicon before he is stopped by Van Bommel.
RVP does well to save that... Robben takes too much time
Any thoughts about the Beckham for future England manager chatter? Does he have any badges?
ooh, great run by Rob and ends up with Kaka... great shot... great save
Oh - Great curling effort from Kaka well saved by Stecklenberg.
I did hear that
Too much of celebrity to be boss
Nearly 2-0 as Robinho uses the carnival tricks and Steckelenburg tips KAka's effort around the post.
Danny Alves shoots straight at the keeper.
An unusual Gilberto mistake allows Kuyt in to win a corner.
The Dutch win a corner as RVP and Kuyyt combine well.
What did you think of that corner, Dave?
The Dutch short corner fails. Brazil were more alert.
Juan fouls RVP - he's getting close to a card.
Missed it... Shadow had to pee.... HOPELESS?
Nicely hit free kick there from Sneijder. Well held by Julio Cesar.
Well...it was a very, very short corner. Robben cheekily dinked it forward and then ran away from it. Trick routine.
The short corner was a nice idea, but the rest of the Dutch team were not on the same page.
Bloody short corners!
And finally the referee runs out of patience with Michel Bastos. Yellow card. Dunga not happy.
Dangerous free kick by Robben... well cleared
Dunga is doing his nut on the touchline as if his side were 4-0 down!
Was it like the trick corner that United had against Chelsea?
Rooney touches it as Giggs came over to take it... but just dribbled it in and crossed... Ronaldo scored!
Bloody linesman and ref hadn't a clue what went on so they had us take it again... We cross.. Vidic scores anyway!
We'll be at a German bier garden tomorrow morning for the Argentina v. Germany match. It's the match-up of my least favorite teams. I shall try to keep my thoughts to myself.
Yeah - that's the one. The problem was that none of the Dutch players anticipated it.
Was that when the "Special One" was in charge of Chelsea?
Sounds like fun but who can we root for
Some desperate defending there from the Dutch. Van Bommel concedes the free kick. Van Bommel also close to a card here.
Nope... that was two seasons ago... Ron's last
I agree BD. I don't care for those teams either. I would love to see Spain defeat either one in the semis.
RVP fouls Maicon, who will chip this one in....
Cleared out.
I dislike Germany less than I did in the past.
I didn't mind them in 06
Yeah - I would still like to see Spain v. Brazil in the final and a Spanish win of course.
That was a Jabulani corner by Maicon. I would love to join you for the match tomorrow. It sounds really enjoyable.
Robben tries to dribble round six Brazilians. Nothing on there.
Robben had a chance but just wanted to dribble!!
They stopped him going left!
ooh, side netting by Maicon
Saved
That looked like Carlos ALberto
Nearly 2-0 as Maicon shoots into the side netting Halftime and 2-0.
Half time
1-0
Not too brilliant
Finishing packing Bob
Maicon hits a Roberto Carlos style effort near post. Well saved but no corner.
The half-time whistle blows. Fascinating stuff. That half flew by.
1-0 Brazil.
Another Homer Simson moment. It is 1-0.
I will still be at LOB tomorrow which is enjoyable too!
Me too
Teams are all set for the second half... Holland are losing for the first time in their entire World Cup campaign
We're off
The second half begins.
Great to hear it, lads. I'm looking forward to a bit of an LOB reunion at the LHS reunion in Wakefield, MA with MUR, Bivalve and perhaps some others.
Useless dribbling by Robben.. that was a chance
I expect Brazil to win comfortably. Of they score a second then it's all over.
Brazil kick us off in the second half. A quick Dutch goal might spice up this match. Otherwise, I fear that it might peter out a bit.
Bloody diver
Van der Weil gets a card for simulation. Out of the semi final if the Dutch go through.
I am excited Blue Devil! It will be great to see you next month.
Finally, atdhe's link for Murray Nadal is working
I am too, MUR. Any idea who else is coming? Shame that UWS won't be able to make that trip. We'll miss you, Dave!
That was a really stupid yellow to pick up.It was stated that Van De Wiel is suspended for the next match. Isn't the slate clean once the quarterfinals begin?
Useless shot by Shneider... made by RVP... he is probably really ticked off with him
Sneijder lines one up but somewhat snatches at the shot. Strangely Bert van Marwyck seems rather calm while Dunga is hopping mad about everything.
Reunions do nothing for me
Again, this match has not lived up to its hype
May I remind my Arsenal supporting friends out there that this is the fifth game for Robin van Persie with only one goal to his name. If he were repeat that performance in a domestic season, that would be seven or eight goals.
I agree. It would be great to see UWS at the reunion. I looked at the events link on FB.I know the Geaneys and the Alberts are attending. I think Ursula Noone mentioned something about attending as well as LaRoy Brandt. I do not remember all the other names.
Robben goes flying there and Michel Bastos may well pick up a second yellow card. No contact at all. No card.
Danny Alves is yelling at Robben to get up
It was a foul... he had to get out of the way... but he wasn't TOUCHED!!
HOLLAND HAVE SCORED!!
WHO WAS IT
Own goal or Wesley
GOAL! Cross over from Sneijder, Ooijer got in Julio Cesar's way and it went straight through. Own goal? Sneijder's goal? Who cares, it's
1-1!
GOAL 1-1 I FIRST THOUGHT IT WAS AN OG, BUT SCHNEIDER'S CROSS MISSED EVERYONE. WAS THAT INTENDED?
I think it was just a great, dangerous cross into the six yard box. That kind of ball is devilishly hard to defend. However, Julio Cesar should have claimed it if he came for it. No excuses.
I can't stand how Robben dove and stayed on the ground
That should be punished by video
Gooner will not be pleased there. RVP goes down like Bambi and seems to be hurt.
Murray 3-2 on serve
I agree, UWS.
If the free kick had not been awarded then it would still be 1-0. Brazil have been punished for failing to put the match away in the first half when they were dominant.
I do appreciate the tennis updates today, UWS. I'd love to see Andy Murray in the final. That would help to ease the World Cup pain in Britain.
Of course, Danny Alves has not right to yell at him... he does it too
I don't care who wins this, but I want a winner within the 90 minutes. Come on!
How do you feel about Federer failing to make the final, UWS? I am pleased.
I like Fed... but I want Murray to win regardless
I agree,UWS. Robben was acting like a CHELSEA player.
At the risk of sounding like an RVP hater, let me point out that he was nowhere near getting his head anywhere near that Sneijder cross.
Robben has not done much in the game
BDHRVP
I have to admit that I liked the way that that Chelski team played. Mourinho's first season. Robben on the right, Duff on the left. Drogs down the middle. Exciting side. After Robben left, Jose made them much more defensively minded.
Nice camera work picking out some cute young Dutch supporters in the stands. Much appreciated.
I am shunning you for that comment BD
Bastos is replaced by Melo. I still feel that Sneijder did not mean to score. That was not planned.
RVP with a rubbish effort there. Get him off!
BDHRVP
4-3 Murray
Half an hour left to settle this one. Could swing either way.
I agree BD. you already won the bet.
Nigel de Jong picks up a card for shirt tugging on Robby. He's out of the semi as well.
Becks fiddling with his son's hair... kid just wants him to stop!
Oh - Kaka should have hit the target there with the volley. I thought that was going in!
ooh, Kaka should have done better there... I thought that was going to be in... where's the quality?
Just wide by Kaka. That was really close.
Van Persie looks as if he's running through treacle.
RVP wins a corner for the Dutch.
BDHRVP
The Dutch are pushing for the winner... the Brazilians aren't
The latest update for the Dutch is that De Jong and Van Der Wiel are suspended for the semis and Matheijssen is out injured.
We have a Gilberto Silva and a Gilberto Da Silva on the pitch now. I'm confused.
TWO ONE!!!
Sneijder with the goal!!!
BRAZIL ARE IN MAJOR TROUBLE!!
GOAL! The Dutch have turned it around and it's the set piece that's done it. I had a feeling.
2-1!
GOAL 2-1 HOLLAND AS SNIEJDER FLASHES A HEADER PAST CESAR!!!
Martin Tyler trying to one-up Barry Davies with the "Orange" metaphor:
"The sweet taste of orange." I'll bet he was saving that one up for this match.
I had the same feeling
Robben took the corner,Kuyyt flicked the header and Sneijder finished.
Brazil with a set piece chance now. The Dutch are really pushing Brazil. Can they step up a gear?
4-4
The Brazilians can only blame themselves. They really stepped off the gas after taking the lead, trying to bolt the door Italian style. And they've been found out.
Is that your prediction for this match, UWS? Or the Wimbledon update?
Wimpleton
Nadal has his first break point....second serve... break
4-5 Nadal
I have to admit that I did not expect this score, but there is still twenty minutes left in the match.
What happened??
STRAIGHT RED!!
That was nasty!!!
Bloody hell - it's a red card. But for whom? It's Felipe Melo. And it's a deliberate stamp on Robben. Deserved red. Silly, silly boy. Dunga will not be happy!
Melo is sent off for a stamp on Robben. That was an easy decision for the referee.
This match is wide, wide open now. I still feel there are some goals to come.
Brazil are starting to lose it
Robinho yelling at him... of course... stop doing it yourself!
That was a foul... I agree he dives
The Brazilians are really getting ticked off with Robben. Robinho's having a go at him. But he's been doing that all match really. And Robben has been ridiculous with his diving.
Brazil is losing the plot. Robinho is furious at Robben. Cesar punches the free kick clear.
