Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Greetings from London!

The Eagle Has Landed! I'm now set up in my parents' den with a cuppa waiting for the Premiership goodness to begin. It all starts in about an hour and half with Sunderland v. Bolton. That's followed by the usual 3pm matches, highlighted by Arsenal v. Stoke and a titanic top of the table scrap between my beloved Leeds and the evil Warnock minions at QPR. Join me for the usual LOB blather. Cheers!

Owen Coyle has completed changed Bolton's tactics as they are now a decent side to watch. He has made U.S. international Stuart Holden the play maker in midfield .

Good morning UWS. Bob said that there is a lot of snow and that it is really chilly in England. Four EPL matches have been postponed today. I did not know about the one tomorrow.

Wonder if there is snow in our neck of the woods.
My sister keeps complaining that every other part of the country except East Anglia is getting snow!

8:15 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Why are so many games in the Prem off but only 3 in the Championship?
Games at Cardiff, Portsmouth and Watford are off

8:17 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I think Blackburn vs West Ham is the only other EPL match taking place today as the begin life without Fat Sam. Gyan forced a good save from Jussi.

Keep warm BD. Other than the winter of 78-79, I don't remember this type of weather in England.

8:22 AM

Only one other EPL match today while Fat Sam gets to stay warm.

The match between Luton and York has been abandoned midway through the second half due to the weather.

Blogger manunitedrules said...

Brucie is furious with some of the robust challenges by Bolton in the first half.

8:30 AM

I think East Anglia gets less snow than anywhere else in England except for the Scilly Isles!

8:31 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

WHAT A SAVE BY GORDON!!

8:31 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Bolton nearly scored off the corner as Gordon saved from Knight from close range. How did he keep that out?

8:32 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

With all these games called off... the biggest match of the weekend must be the top four clash in the Championship at Elland Road

8:33 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Halftime and Sunderland deservedly lead 1-0 despite some really physical play by Bolton.

I am back from a warm refreshing shower. Our morning low off 44 degrees must seem quite balmy. I can't believe Owen Coyle is wearing shorts in this weather.

8:56 AM

Elmander shot straight at Craig Gordon.

8:58 AM

9:09 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

OOH!!! Nearly 2-0 as Well beck shoots and hits the outside of the post.

9:15 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Sunderland almost double their lead. Welbeck hits the outside of the post

9:15 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Sunderland have been good value for their lead as Bolton have resorted to cynical play which is not typical of an Owen Coyle side.

9:16 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Wellbeck was looking for a penalty. Looking at the replay, I think he was fouled outside the penalty area.

9:17 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Of course, United are Sunderland's next opponent on Boxing Day

9:18 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Zenden is on for Gyan.

9:19 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Welbeck will be ineligible , so we should win that match. It should be entertaining.

9:19 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I don't know if this postponement tomorrow is good or bad for United. Chelsea may be turning the corner and could have got a lot of confidence in beating United. Now, maybe their slide continues against the other teams.
It would be great for Arsenal to beat Chelsea at the Em

I would like to see the match be made up while all the Chelsea players are off at the ACN

9:21 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Welbeck is now injured. These Bolton challenges are getting out of hand.

9:21 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Bolton are really thugging it up. I don't know how Robinson is still on the pitch. Good to see them losing. I wish they'd go down already.

9:22 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree UWS. I would have preferred to have played Chelsea tomorrow while they are in a poor run of form, but the ANC would be a great time.

9:22 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Are any EPL matches being played tomorrow?

9:23 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I first thought that about Chelsea on a bad run but it looks like their coming out of it. I think an away game at Arsenal could knock them down a bit

9:23 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Now Davies pushes Richardson down and checks to see if Chris Foy saw him. The answer is YES!!!

9:24 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I am off to the shops

Blogger manunitedrules said...

Klasnic sees his shot deflected straight to Gordon.

9:32 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Anton Ferdinand is down injured after another clash with Kevin Davies.

9:33 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That was nearly 2-0 as Zenden headed wide from a fantastic Sunderland move.

9:35 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

There was a morbidly obese fan without a short on in these conditions!!!

9:35 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Four minutes of stoppage time as Sunderland clear a Bolton corner.

9:36 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Kalsnic shoots just wide after a scramble in the penalty area. Was that Bolton's last chance.

9:39 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That's it . Sunderland move to fifth with a deserved 1-0 win over Bolton as they keep their sixth clean sheet of the season. It was a poor Bolton performance today.

9:41 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

TTFN everyone.

9:41 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Cheers, fellas. I was really glad to see Sunderland win today. They were good value for it.

Now the big one for me - there has been a war of words between QPR and Leeds all week in preparation for this one. No love lost between Warnock and Grayson and of course QPR have a certain Rob Hulse leading their line. Should be rather tasty. Come on, you Whites!

9:50 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It is still 0-0 between Leeds and QPR. The late match is between the Tractor Roys and Sven's lot.

10:26 AM

11:11 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Hibs have pulled a goal back as they now trail Killie 2-1.

11:17 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

We've got about half an hour to gut out what would be an extraordinary win against the league leaders at Elland Road. It does bring us level second with Cardiff on points but with inferior goal difference.

11:20 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Hello Bob. Exeter City now lead Sheffield Wednesday 2-1.

11:22 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Canaries have taken the lead at Coventry. The Whites still lead the evil team 1-0.

11:33 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

YESSSSS! Now it's 2-0. We've been absorbing QPR pressure most of the match and finally sprung Max Gradel who finished for his brace.

Way hay!

11:34 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

It must just be a fluke of the parts of the country that are involved. I notice that the north got snow earlier in the week and the capital got it today so it's mostly the matches in London that have been called off. Most of the Championship clubs have Premiership quality stadia since many have been up in the top league recently.

11:36 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

YES!!!! Gradel gets a second as your lot is giving Warnock a lump of coal. Well done!!!

11:36 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I am not sure if I will get up early to watch Wolves vs the Baggies, but I will watch Citeh vs Everton on Monday. If you are blogging tomorrow I will get up to chat with you.

11:37 AM

Exeter is now thrashing Wednesday 4-1. Coventry have tied it up against the Canaries, and Newport County have tied it up at Fleetwood.

11:39 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It is ironic that little Fleetwood can host a match, but neighboring Blackpool cannot.

11:40 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Hammers have tied it up at Ewood Park as Junior Stanislas scored for the Hammers.

11:41 AM

There is a tea time kick off at Portman Road. Will you be watching that match Bob?

11:46 AM

It has finished 1-1 at Ewood Park between Blackburn Rovers and the Hammers.

11:55 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Leeds win 2-0 against evil Warnock. I think Leeds is in third behind Cardiff on goal difference. If Norwich win at Coventry they will be in fourth. The Tractor Roys kick off in about 25 minutes.

11:58 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Bob, I think Leeds is one point ahead of the Welsh clubs, so they would be in second place. The Canaries move up to fifth ahead of Coventry due to that crucial win.

12:01 PM

WOW... TWO NIL and in SECOND PLACE!!!

CONGRATS MATE!

The Tractor Roys lead 3-0 at halftime as they extended their lead through two goals by Jason Scotland.

1:22 PM

The match at Portman Road has been suspended. In other words, the 3-0 lead means absolutely nothing as the match will need to be replayed.

2:03 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

From the Beeb

Ipswich ended a run of six straight defeats with victory over Leicester but only after a scare that the game would be abandoned because of heavy show.
Rory Fallon's lay-off set up David Norris to open the scoring, before Jason Scotland's low shot made it 2-0.
Shane O'Connor teed up Scotland to poke home a third goal but shortly after the break play was stopped for 17 minutes.
After the restart Leicester's Curtis Davies had a goal ruled out for off-side but a comeback was never likely.

3:42 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I did not realize that the match resumed. I am pleased that it did so that the Tractor Roys could get a much needed win in blizzard conditions.
