Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Morning, Dave! Great graphic there - thanks for starting the thread. I hope you can keep control of the computer.

Subs: Gulacsi, Carroll, Cole, Kyrgiakos, Ngog, Spearing, Poulsen.
Man Utd: Van der Sar, Rafael Da Silva, Smalling, Brown, Evra, Nani, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, Berbatov, Rooney.
Subs: Kuszczak, Hernandez, Fabio Da Silva, O'Shea, Fletcher, Obertan, Gibson.
Referee: Phil Dowd (Staffordshire).
I'm really enjoying FSC's "Super Sunday" preview of the big match. One question that they haven't addressed - has this traditional clash lost any lustre with Liverpool dropping down the table this season?
The Fergie v. Dracula feud is apparently over - Dimitar is back in the starting line-up.
I like the line up. Shame we are missing both centerbacks. Either twins worry me with their rash tackling
Pleased to see Giggs and Scholes
Did you hear Giggsy with Robbie Savage on 606 yesterday?
I did get your email about it but I didn't listen to it yet. I will
It's good fun. Robbie says that Ryan is one of the Top Ten greatest all-round footballers in history. Your thoughts?
Good morning UWS and BD. They kick off from Anfield.
Here we go! United to get us underway in white, attacking the Kop End in the first half.
Morning, MUR! Great to have you on board. How was your workshop yesterday?
Ryan Giggs surpasses Sir Bobby as he now has the most league appearances . What a player!
Oh - Mereilles found Suarez in the area but it came to him too quickly. This is really the first time I've seen Luis Suarez playing for Liverpool.
The workshop was great! I presented for all four sessions, then came home and slept for two hours. It is great to be back with LOB.
The greatest player in Premiership history? That was Robbie Savage's pronouncement yesterday.
Wes Brown did not look good on his first test as Mireles went past him too easily . That was a spell of pressure from Liversox.
Liverpool have got their passing game going early doors.
Not liking the start so far!
First chance for my boy Nani to stretch his legs but he runs out of room, much to the delight of the Kop.
Difficult to say. Definitely one of the most consistent.what a servant he has been for us. Who can ever forget that Fa Cup semi winner against the Arsenal in 1999 in extra time after Schmeichel saved a penalty?
What do the kids think, UWS? Any predictions?
It has been all Liverpool with us defending frantically.
COME ON UNITED!
Fortunately, that was a poor finish from Suarez.
I'm certain that Gooner hasn't forgotten it. Btw, since he isn't about this morning, another question:
Robbie Savage commented yesterday that the next ten days could be the worst in Arsenal history as they lost the Carling Cup final last weekend, dropped two home points with Sunderland yesterday, will likely get knocked out of the CL at the Nou Camp on Tuesday and out of the FA Cup against you lot next weekend? The end of the Wenger era?
At least United are doing a better job of keeping possession.
Spring would be nice - we got six inches of snow again last night!
I don't think it is the end of the Wenger era. I think they need to strengthen the center of the defense. I think they have a chance against Barca, but I pick us to beat the Gunners in the quarters. Whatever happens,I don't see Wenger going anywhere any time soon.
Excellent block by Smalling on Kuyt there. Could you lend him to us for the rest of the season?
They say that March comes in like a Lion and goes out like a lamb. I am sure you will be glad to see Spring ASAP.
Great defending by Smalling. Kap should give him a chance.
I think it might be curtains for Arsene if they don't win anything again this season. Arsenal fans are certainly frustrated. Still, I think it was telling that Gooner chose Wilshere over Smalling as young PFA player of the season. Arse fans are trained not to understand the importance of a player like Smalling.
BLOODY HELL... OFF THE POST BY BERBS... NICE SHOT
OOH! drac nearly scored with a speculative effort that swerved and hit the outside of the post.
Oh - that was interesting. A long cross is met by Mereilles but Kuyt just couldn't get himself onto the end of it. I would have liked to have seen Carroll on for that chance. Second half?
I like Wilshere and actually think he might win it as he has played all season, and Smalling did not start until a few months ago. It will be close.
I agree BD. That was close as Kuyyt just failed to connect.
Suarez is looking really lively today.
That is true - the voting is usually done earlier in the season so Wilshere probably has a lock on it.
Evra wins a corner off of Johnson.
Aurelio is down clutching his hammy. Looks like he's done for the day. Kenny making a change here. It's big Kyrgiakos - the set piece threat.
Uh Oh, Carroll is about to come on!
Fabio Aurelio is holding his hammy. It looks like Kyrgiakos will be on in his place.
Good... no he's not
Oh - The Orange got his head to the corner but it was cleared.
Brown nearly scored off the corner , but Mireles cleared off the line.
So you're a bit worried about Carroll? I agree - he's another YPFA player of the year candidate. What a season he's had!
The Orange must be named Brown.
Half way through an enthralling first half at Anfield. This is swinging one way and another. Would like a goal soon, though.
I would not pick Carroll as he he has been injured for so long , despite the fantastic start.
Sorry - yes, I affectionately refer to Wes Brown as The World's First Orange Footballer, or more simply "The Orange."
We should probably produce an LOB glossary at some point.
We could really use a win after the Gunners drew 0-0 yesterday thanks to a fantastic performance from Mignolet.
Are they chanting "Rooney for Arsenal?"
Rooney is really ticking me off...there is no movement from him. Berbatov controls the ball and Roon is no where to be seen
I agree - the Sunderland back four was excellent yesterday, especially Mignolet and Henderson.
I agree with you about Roon, UWS, but as we've seen recently, he can suddenly spring to life with a game-changing moment.
Interesting statement. I was not aware that Roon was playing ? How about Rooney for Leeds?
What's really going to stick in Arsenal throats this week is that Spurs are likely to go through to the CL quarter-finals. Earlier in the season, they were singing, "Champions League - you're having a laugh," but Spurs have been excellent in the CL.
A strange effort there from Gerrard is deflected out for a corner. Scholes should have been booked for encroachment to be fair.
Liversox have a free kick in a dangerous position. The free kick from Stevie G is deflected for a corner.
BLOODY HELL... STOP SUAREZ!!
Was Kuyt off side... no!
TERRIBLE DEFENDING
GOAL! Liverpool finally unlocks this match. Suarez did most of the damage jinking through most of the United defense there and Kuyt only had to tap home.
Sorry lads. 1-0 Pool!
Liverpool tails are up now. Corner.
BLOODY HELL! KUYYT SCORES FROM CLOSE RANGE AFTER FANCY FOOT WORK FROM sUAREZ.
Suarez is popping up all over the place now. Another corner....
we just let Suarez walk his way through our defense.
Liverpool are now sixth, leapfrogging Bolton and now five points behind Spurs.
Great defending from Smalling.
Why couldn't they play like this for Roy Hodgson. Were they put off by the speech impediment?
BLOODY HELL!!!
WHAT KIND OF DEFENDING WAS THAT!
NANI HEADS IT RIGHT TO KUYT
GOAL! Kuyt nips in to nod home a horrible headed "clearance" from my boy Nani. Oh dear!
2-0!
What did you say about ENGRAVERS Bob!
NOW -0 as kuyyt was gifted his second as with a back header Shocking defending from United
What does your run-in look like lads?
A poor cross from Rafael.
Besides the Berbatov shot.. United have been toothless going forward
How many goals are United going concede today?
United look clueless
Okay....
March 19 - Bolton at home (3 pts)
April 2 - West Ham away (3 pts)
April 9 - Fulham at home (3 pts)
April 16 - Newcastle away (3 pts)
April 23 - Everton at home (3 pts)
May 1 - Arsenal away (1 pt)
May 7 - Chelski at home (3 pts)
May 14 - Blackburn away (3 pts)
May 22 - Blackpool at home (3 pts)
I can only see you dropping two points. Thus, call the engravers.
Oh dear - what is going on here? Nani has been clattered by Carradonna and it's handbags time.
What is Nani doing??? Gets clattered by Carra and he is already getting booked and Nani jumps up and runs by the ref and falls again
Evra and Gerrard going at it
Phil Dowd has some work to do here. Yellow card for Carra.
THAT WAS A NASTY CHALLENGE... THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RED
Hand bags as Caradonna fouls Nani.
VDS in the book... what the hell is he doing up there?
UNITED ARE LOSING THE PLOT
And now VDS has talked his way into the book - what's going on there. Nani is being stretchered off now.
VDS is in the book or something he said to Phil Dowd.
Is he hurt?
Why is this color guy confused about the Nani header. He was trying to head it out of the area but got the header wrong - where's the mystery?
He looks like he is crying coming off the pitch on a stretcher
Of course, United waste the free kick
A poor half for Nani as he assisted with the second Liverpool goal then acted disgracefully once he was fouled by Caradona.
Oh dear - now more handbags after Rafael's lunge. That was a bad foul.
THis getting nasty.. Stupid foul by Rafa... he always does this and the Liverpool players go nuts... GROW UP ALL OF YOU
That wasn't as bad as Carra
Rafael goes in the book after the foul and ANOTHER fight. he foul was on Lucas.
Looks like a booking for Rafael. Lucky boy. Phil Dowd would do well to blow up and let everyone cool off. There's no football going on at this point. Chicharito has come on for Nani.
Now Skrtel is in the book.
Nani has been replaced by Hernandez
How did he get up in the first place?
Half time... HORRIBLE
Half-time then. Not a good half for you lot. Players are surrounding the referee but it's hard to argue that he's done anything wrong. I'm off to freshen my coffee and towel off. Back in a tick.
The ref has been fine
Both teams are being really childish... very very very upset
Halftime and Fergie subs Nani, saying that he is a serious liability That was a violent ed to he first half as Liverpool lead 2-0
The teams were childish but this shows what a rivalry we have between the two teams. Hopefully , both mangers will do the right thing and get the players to act appropriately.
Is there any way back for United?
Nani was actually crying!]
What formation is Fergie going to use for the second half? Is he going to put Pants Rooney out on the right?
WE will have to score an earl goal to have a chance
BBC Radio 5 live's Pat Nevin: "I think Liverpool will now see this as a chance not just to beat Man United, but to embarrass them. If Liverpool win this game, Man United's next away game is at West Ham so maybe you cannot rule Chelsea out of the title race."
nani new exactly why he was yanked. I hope he learns from this experience.
All I am thinking about is...
Blackpool away this season
Spurs 0-3 in '01
Souness thinks that Carra should have been sent off
Butch Wilkins agrees
He thinks Rafa should have been off as well
I am losing the computer for a while... FINGERS CROSSED FOR THE SECOND HALF
I think a red card would have been reasonable. You have to look at the intent and Caradona went out to injure the player.
the second half starts sans Nani.
Hey guys. I saw the last 20 minutes. Suarez is amazing. Go Liverpool AZ Kicker
We're back and Liverpool gets the second half started. So, is it clear that Nani wasn't injured but was withdrawn by Ferg because he was crying?
Hiya - AZ! It's great to hear from you. I hope you'll stick around for the second half. We could use a little competitive Liverpool v. United banter.
I'll stick around. I tend to avoid these fourms since I still owe David N a 6 pack from years ago.
Good morning AZ
come on united
More great work from twinkle toes Suarez but Stevie G ran out of room.
And now it's down the pitch with Chicha nearly getting in. This is thrilling stuff.
I'm sure that UWS won't begrudge you a few beers, AZ. He might begrudge you the Liverpool rooting, though.
United are coming back into this match
Oh - Giggs latches on to a Rooney ball in and puts it just over.
I am upset that United have gifted Liverpool both goals.
Who knows why we pick our sports teams? Maybe Nick H? it's all over by the time you are 12. And the Liverpool was the bee's knees in the mid-70's.
Sorry UWS. Liverpool for life
Pool have come out very much on the backfoot in this second half. A risky proposition.
Question, is Rooney past his prime?
That has been two chances for United this half.
That's definitely the way it was for me. I fell in love with the Don Revie Leeds team at first sight and have followed them through thick and thin for forty years.
Rooney is not pas prime. he is only 25. He just lost interest in the game.
AR did not even shoot.
That is quite an interesting question, AZ. Rooney's only 25 so he could hardly be past his prime. But somehow the pressure of on and off pitch life has gotten into his head. He used to play as if he didn't have a care in the world, as if he were still playing wall ball in Toxteth. Not now.
Oh - Drac blocked off the line by Mereiles. Did it cross the line - United players appealing for it. I'd have to see it again.
OK, i'll give AR credit on that possession.
Free kick for United right on the edge of the box....
Drac has a shot cleared off the line.
It wasn't over the line but was it an arm by Mereiles?
Giggs hits the free kick but it's well over. Too close.
The free kick was curled over.
Was the clear off the line a hand ball??
The header from Drac hit Mireles on the chest.
Liverpool could definitely use a change now. But an attacker?
Mereiles produces a great save from VDS. No one following in.
I think Roon can't handle the pressures of being a celebrity. That is the difference between a successful player and one like Roon.
Great save by VDS from Mireles.
Brown gives up a free kick in a dangerous position. Kyrgiakos is the one to watch in these positions IMHO.
Brown trips Kuyyt. Free kick Liverpool.
Yep. AR could have transformed the game. bad boy image + results. That is a big opportunity
GOAL! Bloody hell - Kuyt has his hat-trick! Great free kick by Suarez spilled by VDS and Kuyt is in the right place to tuck it in. First hat-trick for Pool.
3-0 Over and out.
BLOODY HELL! KUYYT COMPLETES HIS HAT-TRICK AS VDS FAILS TO HOLD ON TO A DEFLECTED FREE KICK AND KUYYT TAPS INTO AN EMPTY NET FROM A YARD OUT.
3-0 lIVERPOOL
Three gifts to Kuyt. Suarez delivered them all. MVP is Surarez
This match is having a disastrous affect on goal difference for United too. They're down to 32 GD only two ahead of Arsenal. Title race tightening as we type.
cHICHARITO WINS A CORNER FOR uNITED. That was Kuyyt's first hat-trick for Liverpool.
I agree, AZ. Suarez has been genius today. A really good buy for Kenny.
A hat-trick that was laid on a plate by United players.
I hate Liverpool, but will admit that Suarez adds something different to Liverpool and may be better suited to Liverpool than El Nino.
Yes - Liverpool appear to have got the better end of the Torres to Chelski deal. And they've still got Andy Carroll to come back to full fitness.
yes, United players could have stopped them all. But Suarez caused the stress in all of the situations. Stress leads to mistakes. And Suarez is my new hero (startign from the WC)
Strangely, Gerrard has been largely anonymous during this match. Is it his time to make a big money move at the end of the season?
I disagree AZ. Suarez does pressure players, but defenders of that quality should deal with those situations. It was just a poor performance by United. If they had played to their capabilities then the match would be on level terms.
Is Fergie wearing a snood on the bench? I thought that they were banned at OT?
Andy Carroll looks to set to come on for his Liverpool debut.
Carroll is on for Mireles.
Well, I don't think that any of the three United attackers on display has shown the penetration that Suarez has shown (or the opportunism that Kuyt has shown) today.
And now it's Carroll time.
Why is he wearing a snood? It's not that cold. It is sunny and in the 40's I usually wear a jacket in those conditions without extra layers.
Sorry, MUR but I'd love to see Andy score a goal on his debut. Real Roy of the Rovers stuff. This game is over anyway. I really like him - one for the future for England IMHO.
O'Shea on for Rafa now....
Lucas trips Ronn and should have been booked. O'Shea is on for Raffa.
Well, he's wearing a pea coat with what looks like either a zip up jacket underneath or a snood. Hard to tell.
Poor free kick from Roon That eventually leads to a corner.
Actually a free kick that Giggs over-hits after Roon under hit
Did I mention that we got snow last night in Fredonia? What the temperature in Tucson, AZ - 102F?
Carroll can score some other day and was poor when given his chance by Kap.
Kenny's enjoying a nice birthday serenade from the Kop now. He was sixty two days ago. Boy, that makes me feel old. I remember him in his playing prime.
Harlingen has been around 80 F, but we got a front yesterday and the high is supposed to be 70 today.
I second that,BD.
The winters are a pain here but I do love the cool summers. No need for AC during much of the summer.
This will be our heaviest defeat of the season. Would you believe that we have twice won the EPL win losing a match 5-0 in a season?
We have actually run the AC some the past few weeks , but not today thanks to the front.
Scholes gets his customary yellow.
Scholesy's day is over. Fletch coming on for him.
It a chilly 50F or so in tempe. Won't walk the dogs until it gets to 65F.
Now he is replaced by Fletch.
I think it is about the temperature at this time in Harlingen.
Stevie G shoots wide with a decent effort from long range.
Stevie G. pulls the trigger but it goes wide. Meanwhile The Orange has clattered Suarez and he's in trouble here.
Congrats on a great win over Donny yesterday. You were helped by some great results involving your promotion rivals yesterday. There were some real surprises.
Suarez is back up and dances by a couple before shanking his shot wide.
Top four go to the champions league. What do you get for 5th?
The Orange is named Brown. Sounds like something from Monte Python.
Cheers, MUR! It was a great win in the end but we don't make it easy for ourselves. Super entertainment value for the punters at Elland Road, though. We'd be another Blackpool if we were somehow to miraculously win promotion this season.
Fifth place is the Europa League, formerly known as the Uefa Cup.
5th and 6th go into the Europa League, the new version of the old UEFA Cup, AZ. Sometimes #7 goes in as well but this season it will be Birmingham City, who won the Carling Cup last weekend.
Suarez comes off to thunderous applause.
Suarez is replaced By Joe Cole and gets a standing ovation. Stevie G shoots just wide.
I bet you did not expect Swansea to lose at Scunny ,Forest to lose at home for the first time this season, or Evil Cardiff to lose at home to Ipswich.
Chicharito heads in a consolation goal from a great cross . 3-1 to Liverpool.
GOAL! Chicha gets a consolation goal there. It doesn't mean much for the match but it gets United back to +33 GD. Great cross and header into the corner.
3-1!
Thanks. The ESPN table hi-lights 5th but not 6th or 7th. Thought I was missugn soemthing.
I did not. However, the problem for us was that Burnley won yesterday. They're only four points back in 7th and have two games in hand. I worry about them more than the ones above us.
This is our heaviest defeat of the season other than the Carling Cup debacle.
This may be the a good race to the finish. Arsenal vs ManU. Good Luck. However, liverpool will enjoy the moment.
The final whistle blows and Liverpool win 3-1. It was a really poor performance by United I am not sure why they were not up for this match.
