We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!
Midweek Footie Fest!
We continue our New Year's week slate of matches this week with three in the Premiership and another in the Championship. It's all highlighted by the clash between table toppers Manchester City v. 6th place Liverpool. Join me from 2:45pm onward for all the usual LOB blather.

Good afternoon BD. I will try the link and see if it works.
Afternoon, MUR - hope your day is going more smoothly today.
Bloody hell Aguero scores with a shot under Reina's body. Bloody berk!
It is going much better. Thanks ,bD.
I am espn3.com and the link is in and out
I think I have Ian and Stevie Mac.
Yeah - I'm having trouble at this end to. Wondering exactly why I'm bothering to be at work right now. I may skip home before long.
Aguero tries a fancy chip, but it's straight at Reina
I just finshed verifying grades and attendance which is why I missed the start of the match.
I tried your link , but I needed a download,so I went to this link. No bowl games today.
I believe that that's Aguero up to 14 goals now in the Premiership, closing in on RVP's total of 16.
They showed the replay and unsually poor keeping by Reina in this match of all matches.
I am unhappy that he was gifted the goal.
I think we both posted a thread for this match
Finally - here's a good one:
http://www.oleoletv.com/watch/live/stream/online/free/tv/video/channel/feed/link/broadcast/vivo/gratis/p2p/4/january/3/2012/14/94/v-349512/manchester-city-vs-liverpool-fc.html
BUGGER! My link is having problems!
I don't see another thread on the site - did you delete it?
No goals yet between Bristol City and Evil Millwall.
Oh - that deflection off Dzeko could have gone anywhere!
Pool have a free kick option now. Looks like Charlie Adam to strike it. Well parried by Hart and away from danger.
Jordan Henderson with a raking drive that wasn't too far away from Hart's left post.
Did you try that link I posted, mate?
Liverpool with some decent pressure now, some half-way through the first half.
Another free kick now, with Jordan Henderson to hit this one right footed.
Straight into the wall and out of danger.
I went back to espn3.com beciase the other link was acting up. I think it's the school computer.
Big shout for handout against Skrtel. It certainly hit his arm after Aguero tried to jink by him but the ref deemed it unintentional.
This one I'm on is magic:
http://www.oleoletv.com/watch/live/stream/online/free/tv/video/channel/feed/link/broadcast/vivo/gratis/p2p/4/january/3/2012/14/94/v-349512/manchester-city-vs-liverpool-fc.html
Just click out of the pop-ups and you're in business.
Great save, there from Reina, making up for his earlier error. Kompany thought he'd scored, I'm sure.
GOAL! Now it is in! Yaya from the corner!
2-0 Citeh and Yaya rises to meet that corner. Pretty much a simple, unimpeded header. Poor marking their from the Reds.
GOAL!! 2-0 CITEH AS yAYA HEADS IN FROM A CORNER JUST UNDER THE BAR.
Now this link has packed it in. The Net cops must be out in force this afternoon. I'm off home - I'll catch you on the other side, mate.
I agree. It seemed as if the Reds were all over the place at the corner.
Mine is still in and out . Cheers BD.
I have LOB on firefox and the match on internet explorer. It's the only way I can get this to work.
I have to reload my link every ten seconds.
Ian said he would give the halftime score from WHL , but every time he does the link gives out
As Ian mentioned these two teams meet next week in the first leg of the Carling Cup semis.
Now the link is finally behaving and with good reception.
Great run by Charlie Adam , but he can't take on the entire Citeh back four.
Dzeko is fouled after he had a shot blocked when he was put through by Silva.A decent position for Citeh.
The net police must have let me off with a warning!
Silva curls the free kick well over.
Kuyyt has a shot blocked by Kompany after a knock down by Carrol from a great cross.
All the players are wearing black arm bands to commemorate the passing away of Gary Ablett at age 46. The only player to win the FA Cup with both Liverpool and Everton.
The match is being played in a downpour and gale force winds. Stevie Mac complains that it is playing havoc with his hair. GET OVER IT!
One minute of stoppage time as Barry is booked for a foul on Spearing.
Halftime and Citeh lead Liverpool 2-0.
Citeh have a 100% league record at Eastlands . I hope it doesn't continue ,but looks like it will.
Time for a halftime report. Here are some scores:
Spurs 0 West Brom 0
Wigan 0 Sunderland 1
Bristol City 0 Millwall 0
I'm home now and it's bloody Spurs v. West Brom on the FSC. What were they thinking when they booked that? I seem to remember that Dave mentioned that there was a free Fox Soccer Plus promo going on, so I'll look for that.
Stevie Mac sees the humorous side of the weather. He should. Doesn't it always rain in Manchester?
Welcome back, BD.Citeh vs Liverpool is on ESPN2
Craig Gardener scored the Sunderland goal.
I see that Sunderland are 0-1 up at Wigan now. Ricardo Gardner with the goal that sinks Wigan deeper in the muck and mire.
Are you on ESPN2 for the match?
The second half kicks off from Eastlands.
Stevie G is still on the subs bench.
Right then - I've got Spanish language coverage here on ESPN Deportes. No worries - I'll brush up on my language skills.
Spearing is fouled by Barry again.
Do you get ESPN2?
Duh - thank you, MUR. I hadn't realized that it was on ESPN2. I'm there now. Looks as if the weather has deteriorated on Merseyside.
The cross from Glen Johnson is too high for Andy Carroll. Five goals in 29 matches for Liverpool is not good enough.
It's in Manchester. It always rain in Manchester or so they say. Cheers BD.
Hey Boys,
I am home after my faculty meeting
LONG DAY
Not happy with the score at Eastlands!
Why isn't Gerrard on from the start!
Tuning back and forth between FSC and ESPN
I am always arseing a teacher who is a Chelsea. I usually ask her why Chelsea never win
Sunderland are two up at Wigan. That match is on FSC Plus which I have free for a month!
Three games on the telly at once!!
Welcome UWS! How as your first day back?
Spurs vs West Brom is on FSC. What's the third match?
Birstol City and Millwall are scoreless
A summary of the goals. Aguero scored with a shot under Reina's body. SHOCKING KEEPING! The second goal was a Yaya header from a Silva corner. A great header , but the nearest defender was several yards away.
Two out of three goals came in this match.
Wigan and Sunderland on FSC+
Sunderland just scored a second
LONG!!
Spurs score
Defoe
Afternoon, UWS - how are you mate?
Ian and Stevie Mac say that Stevie G only plays thirty minutes due to his fitness.Stevie Mac says Stevie G is still recovering.
Come on Pool... SCORE!
I don't get FSC+. My brother in Orlando does.
I'd have to say that it's now a three horse race with the top three pulling away from the rest of the pack of seven.
Did you guys listen to any of that interview with Johnny Hates Jazz? Great interview
Wigan get a goal back
Wigan 1 Sunderland 2 now.
Sorry to hear that UWS.
Wigan have just scored through Rodallega and trail Sunderland 1-2.
Haven't had a chance yet, mate. Will do.
We don't get FSC+ either but TW is giving it to us free for a month because they dropped MSG. I don't get the FSC+ HD but I do get the other
I have not had a chance because It got late last night. I promise I will listen to it tonight.
Bassong replaces the injured Gallas now.
Definitely take a listen... Mike and Clark did really well
The song that Mike produced for the Eurovision Contest winner was for Katrina and the Waves
Gerrard and Bellamy about to come on... come on... score the next one!
Glen Johnson was booked for a foul on AGuero. It didn't seem severe.Stevie G is on for Adam and Bellamy is on for Kuyyt.
More JHJ, I didn't know that the third member isn't part of the band anymore
I think you got a good deal ,UWS. I would take FSC+ over MSG any day.
I came home to a new edited volume with a chapter in it that I co-authored on my doorstep. Lovely jubbly!
I am keeping my channel on ESPN and FSC so I can rewind for any goals... I am forgetting about the other match
Dzeko head butted Skrtel. That should be a red card.
Some handbags now between Dzeko and Skrtel.
Well done Dr Bob!
I am upset that MSG+ isn't part of TW anymore because CL games are shown on there but United aren't in it any more so...
Good job,BD. I will watch Mike tonight. It said him and another person were in the interview. I will definitely watch.
Cheers, lads. It's good timing as my 4th year dossier is due at the end of the week!
It isn't a watch, it is a listen
It is Mike and Clark Datchler. He was the original lead singer and wrote the songs
I did not realize that MSG were broadcasting CL games. I know FSC+ does EPL games. Not sure what to say,UWS?
It is pissing down in Manchester
That's right . Datchler is the name I was thinking of. I think Mike and Clark are the only remaining members left?
Again.. United are out!
I think MSG and TW will kiss and make up soon anyway. I am enjoying the free month of FSC+ and Gol and others
Yes. Ian and Steve mentioned that in the first half, then Stevie Mac complained it was wreaking havoc with his hair. BLOODY HELL Stevie Mac!
Stevie Mac is a metrosexual.
Yup, of course Mike never mentioned it to me that Calvin was not in the band. He is writing a book about his dad... Mickie Most
That is true, but we will be back in the CL next year so I guess all the events are working in your favor as during this month United are out, but by next year will be back in and will work out if MSG kiss and make up.
Nice ebb and flow to this match now. There's still some life in it, but a third Citeh goal would kill it off.
Great run by Bellamy , but not the finish to match.
Sunderland get their two goal lead back
Liverpool need a goal ASAP!
King Kenny looks cold and miserable pitch-side.
Since you have two matches on you are the Nocito Sportscenter in full flow today. Yours truly is watching on espn3.com.
It's Sesse-gotacluenow with Sunderland's third goal there.
Downing stinks.. I don't know why he plays for England
He sure does. It's colder when you're losing.
Milner and Johnson down for the count now.
Only 12 minutes to go at WHL and DW
Horrible goalkeeping by Reina on both goals, I reckon.
They just showed the two Citeh goals. Both poor goals that Liverpool should have prevented.
Yaya likes Whitney Houston?!!!
He needs to rub some funk on that iPod.
Nice name Bob
Too late Ian. UWS and Bd already mentioned the third Sunderland goal.
Ian announces the third Sunderland goal only about ten minutes late.
Spurs are now only three points behind United with the same number of games played
I always remember Steve D said that Bellamy reminded him of me
Barry fouls Stevie G and Liverpool have a free kick in a great scoring position.
You lot need to clobber the Magpies tomorrow, no doubt.
BTW... nice job posting a thread after one was already there BOB!!!
COME ON YOU REDS
Get a goal and then it will be squeaky bum time!
Adam Johnson is on for Milner.
Sunderland with the FOURTH
I would say that is a good description of your playing style UWS.
Goalkeeper Kun Aguerro trotting off to be replaced now by Adam Johnson. The depth of their squad is pretty impressive, you have to admit.
The Martin Factor up at the SoL
BARRY IS OFF
LOVELY JUBBLEY
Citeh down to ten men! Gareth Barry picks his second yellow. Really innocuous challenge. Never a yellow.
I wasn't a jerk like him!!
WOW! Sunderland running riot at the DW and Barry is sent off for a second yellow.A minor foul, but he had committed too many fouls.
A little over 15 minutes left now - can Liverpool take advantage?
BLOODY HELL||
PENALTY!!!
It's all happening now!!!!!!!
Penalty to Citeh! A bit cheap.
I think it wasn't a pen
Skrtel fouls YAYA in the box ,. I thought it was a penalty. A daft challenge.
Perfect penalty... bugger
Mancini is begging for a red card for Skrtel - I'm glad the ref kept his cards in the pocket.
LUFC Academy with a cool pen!
0-3!
A great penalty by Milner and 3-0 to Citeh . Match over.
Jamie Milner - pure class.
Sorry UWS. I meant the playing style. You are definitely not a jerk.
And now here comes old peanut head on for Citeh
Maxi Rodriguez is on for Jay Spearing.
This is helping Citeh's GD.. come on Pool... score some
Inside the last two minutes at WHL and DW
I told BD about posting a thread after I did . He said he didn't see mine. It could happen to anyone.
Millwall holding Bristol - not a score report, just a bit of gossip.
COME ON... have the cross beat the first man!!
A point doesn't really help either team in that match.
SHUT IT MANCINI!
Mancini still wants a red!
Barry out of the derby match on Sunday
I've just heard from Luton... that my aunt is ill
Dzeko fouls Reina from a short back pass.
Actually, for some reason your thread wasn't on my LOB at work but it popped up at home. Sorry about that, mate.
Bob, do you have FSC+?
If so, did you watch the Football League show?
Sorry about your aunt, UWS. I wish her a speedy recovery. She will be in our thoughts.
Oh - Johnson hits the post. Nearly 0-4!
Off the post by Adam Johnson.
Did you see that Pugh has made a permanent move to ER?
I tried it last night to see the heroics at Elland Road but I don't get it.
No problem,BD. It was actually sort of amusing.
No Dave... that is a quote from Monty Python to follow Bob's
I heard that Drogba is off to Real Madrid. Is this true?
I saw that - I'm not so keen. He hasn't done much. I assumed that Robbie Rogers was cover for us in that position. We've also got Yorkshire Nani and Andros Townsend on loan, who was apparently really impressive yesterday. Pugh is surplus IMHO.
Wide by Stevie G.
I didn't hear that
Thanks, UWS. I feel foolish as I have watched Monty Python. A foolish mistake by Yours truly. I read yours and BD's posts and now I have got it.
I got that one, UWS. From my favorite Python sketch - "Election Night Special."
That reminds me - I'll be blogging the clown car rally that is the GOP Iowa Caucuses later tonight. Feel free to join in the antics.
Someone at work told me about the Drogba move, but I wasn't sure.
Spurs have won 1-0
Sunderland have won 4-1
How did I not get that. I saw the election Special epsiode where every candidate had a weird name and some names were extra long. How did I miss that one?Early alzheimers for MUR!
Still two matches to go tomorrow
The battle of Uniteds and Everton hos Bolton
Spurs and Everton play next Wednesday in their make up game from the opening day of the season
Maxi Rodriguez shoots wide after fancy passing in the box.
I will be teaching tomorrow so I will have to watch the battle of the Uniteds in the evening.
Kevin Phillips Bong... You polled no votes at all, not a sausage, bugger all... are you at all disappointed with this performance?
Not at all. As I always say, Climb Every Mountain, Ford every stream, follow every byway til you find your dream....
I will be at Kathy's dad's house tomorrow for the game. I have to be there because a clock guy is coming by.
I will be able to watch the match but no computer
I'll be hoping for a big from the Silly Party tonight in Iowa.
Are you going to keep away from the score tomorrow?
WIll you follow on the computer? Do you want texts?
I can never not know the score.
Maxi should have scored there
4 added minutes
Can I just say that it's bleeding cold here in WNY?
So, Citeh held their serve today after the break of service on the weekend.... UNITED... IT IS YOUR TIME!
Yes . I remember that and that is the episiode I was thinking of.Remember that part 100%
Same here in ENY
Sunderland join the top seven as the only sides with plus goal differences now.
I will be away from the computer so I can watch the match in the evening . I appreciate the offer ,UWS.
We're supposed to get 15" of the white stuff tonight. Wish us luck!
I remember the Silly Party and MR. Sinlinlinnnnng!
