The Merseyside Derby and the CL on Tuesday
It's an action packed Tuesday as we have a rescheduled Merseyside Derby that kicks on ESPN2 at 4 PM and we have CL action kicking off at 3:45 PM as Inter Milan hosts Marseille.I will be focusing on the Derby that both managers will want to win and Moyes would love to celebrate ten years in charge with a win. Come join me and I will let you know why this match has special meaning for me.

Grand Wizard Kenny seems content with his splendid kit deal according to today's Guardian. He's not far off; it's a bloody miracle that Standard & Chartered are willing to have their name associated with KlAnfield.
My hope is for a hotly contested Derby that Everton squeaks but ends 9 versus 9 so they have suspensions for Saturday.
Good afternoon, Gooner. Knowing the history of these clubs your wish may come true. I agree with you regarding the kit deal. Liverpool have their past history to thank for that deal.
I will watch the first fifteen minutes of Inter vs Marseille before I switch over to the Merseyside Derby.
BLOODY NORAH !!! I didn't realize that we have lots of football league matches too. It's a busy Tuesday.
Inter vs Marseille kicks off from the San Siro.
Most of those must be matches rescheduled sue to the bad weather of early February or due to cup commitments.
An early Marseille free kick near the corner flag as Nagatomo commits a clumsy foul.
The header from the free kick by Balbueno is wide. The cannons are bloody annoying.
Another Marseille attack and Inter clear thanks to a poor final ball from Balbueno.
Walter Samuel is lectured for a push in the back. I hate theatrical refs.CHILL!
Aldershot have taken the lead in a local derby at Crawley.
Nearly 1-0 Inter thanks to some slick passing as Millito and Forlan combined to set up Schneider, who shot at the keeper from close range.
Zanetti actually provided the opportunity for Schneijder. Now Zanetti wins an Inter corner.
what a save by Mandanda from Millito as Stankovic put in a superb cross.
I have switched to the Merseyside Derby as I am recording the CL match
Hull City have taken the lead at Evil Cardiff. Preston have taken the lead at Tranmere.
The match kicks off from Anfield as Robben put Bayern 1-0 up vs Basle to tie it up 1-1 on aggregate.
Liverpool attack from the off and Distin had to clear the danger. Liverpool fans are in full voice.
Tranmere have tied it up vs Preston.
Useless cross by the useless Henderson as Jags made a great tackle after a superb through ball by Suarez.
A long ball from Stevie G is easily gathered by Timmy.
Hard to believe Everton last won at Anfield in 1999. I am sure there have been a fair share of draws.
I wonder how Macca can remain unbiased in this fixture.
what a superb save by Timmy from Stevie G as he was through thanks to a superb pass from Suarez then Rodwell superbly blocked the rebound.
Birmingham have taken the lead at Leicester.
All Liverpool early doors in the Scouse Derby.
Pienaar blazes over after great work by Baines and Stracq
Someone Siad will be going for the blue half of Liverpool in this derby.
Timmy saves superbly from Suarez. The rebound is cleared.
Andy Carroll did well to head on for that Suarez opportunity.
A shocker in the Championship as Donny take the lead vs Reading. WHR will be pleased.
Hey Dave, I can't be around
I am off to coach my son's team
What was the answer to your special meeting
Yeovil take the lead vs Scunny.
Where's Bob?
Good afternoon UWS. Hope all is well. The Merseyside Derby was my first ever post and first ever chatting session with LOB in February 2010. A special moment for me.
No way can Macca commentate on a L'pool game. When we ended up beating them and they went to him for his post-match comments, he looked seriously narked off with his hands jammed in his pockets.
I don't see how ESPN can continue to use Ian Darke either. He referenced "the" Giggs goal in the FA cup yesterday as Jonas streaked by an out-of-position Sagna. He's such a died-hard Man Unitd fan.
Martyn Tyler won't ever give up that he's a Gooner, even though he does get pretty excited after a particularly good RVP goal. He used to need a moment to himself every time Pires was on the ball. Stuart Houston was a failed Arsenal interim coach and the experience obviously pained him because he NEVER has a kind word for us.
I know Bob is in Gainesville, FL, according to a post he put on facebook last night. I am not sure what he is doing there.I wish you and your son the best in the match.
Congrats MUR, it's a pleasure to have reconnected and to have you aboard the good ship LOB.
I bet you were on cloud nine after that late winner yesterday. Well deserved by your team and what a dramatic way to win a match late in stoppage time.
Thanks Gooner. It changed my life for the best because I was going through a difficult time in my life after my dad passed away and this seemed to solve the problem after nothing else seemed to work.
THANKS LADS!
Leicester have tied it up vs Brum.
You got that right. I was using pretty strong language up until the 95th minute, and even stronger after that!!!
Man they leave it late.
The Blades take the lead at Colchester. Bob will not be pleased. When I was a student at LHS I once watched Colchester beat the Blades 5-2 on the telly.
Great anniversary... welcome... a great addition!!
I have to leave for Matt.. it is only practice!
I agree. It sure was dramatic. The Dutch manager must be going bonkers after seeing Krul and RVP fighting. Not good for team morale, considering they are one of the favorites in the Euros.
Thanks UWS. You guys are the best. Have fun at practice. I mowed the lawn and edged earlier today.
Now Bayern lead Basle 2-0 on the night and 2-1 on aggregate and to think we couldn't beat these clowns. If we had defeated them at OT we would have been playing this match in the CL.
Hibbert has a cross deflected for a corner after a collectors Item.He dummied a player to get in that cross.
The corner is cleared.
Coleman won a corner off of Downing that was cleared.
Hibbert made a last ditch tackle on Suarez who was through with just Timmy to beat, but was flagged offside.
Bayern now lead Basle 3-0 and 3-1 on aggregate.
Thoma Mueller scored the second Bayern goal and Super Mario scored the third.
I doubt it. Krul knew what he was doing. All that time-wasting was a wind-up straight from the Pardew playbook. I don't know why he got so upset because allegedly all RVP said was, "now you can take your time picking that out of the net." Pretty mild considering the circumstance and what passes for civil discourse in the Premiership.
Krul is behind Steklenberg and getting pushed for #2 by Worns at Swansea, just to name 2 keepers.
And who you gonna call? RVP or the guy behind Steklenberg?
Bayern lead Basle 2-0 at halftime and 3-1 on aggregate. It is Inter 0 Marseille 0, so Marseille still have that 1-0 lead from the first leg.
GOAL 1-0 LIVEROOOL AND THE FANS GO BIZERK AT ANFIELD . TIMMY FAILED TO HOLD A SHOT BY MARTIN KELLY , AND THE BALL BROKE TO STEVIE G WHO CURLED A SHOT IN THE CORNER FROM THE EDGE OF THE BOX.
Good point Gooner. My thoughts are that both were acing like children and both could have behaved more responsibly. It all started in the first half and I forget what triggered the reaction. If I were Webbie I would have booked both in the first half with both knowing that any further reactions could result in an early bath.
Nearly 2-0 as Martin Kelly was through and shot just wide. The young right back has had two great chances in a matter of minutes.
Stracq had a header straight at Reina as that was his first save of the match.
I agree Gooner. I wonder if Krul's mouth may have cost him a place in the squad. Stecklenburg is number one, worm is probably number two, and there should be someone in the Eredivise that could be three.
A superb sliding tackle on Suarez by Dstin that prevented a second Liverpool goal.
Liverpool deserve their lead as they have been the better team this half.
One minute of stoppage time as there have been practically no stoppages.
If I were Webb, I might have had a different view of his nipple high challenge on Sagna in the first and would have taken Krul to task for the time wasting without waiting for RVP to point out the bleedin' obvious.
All players look for the ref to take charge of the situation. When he won't is when they start to take the law into their own hands. Webb was pretty rubbish I have to say. He might have sent me for an early bath had he heard what I was saying about him...., no, HE WOULD HAVE.
Ba's nipple high challenge that is. I didn't see Webb show anyone any studs to be fair.
Halftime as Liverpool deservedly lead 1-0 thanks to a goal by Stevie G in his 400th league appearance.why did Moyes make six changes from Saturday. Is Macca correct that this match is more important than the FA Cup quarterfinal on Saturday?
I agree with you about Ba . I am not sure why he wasn't booked.I did expect better from Webb.I think I remember the challenge on Sagna, but don;t remember it being as bad as Ba's . I am not sure why Webb let so much go. was he referring to the rule book from the 60's and 70's?
Hull City now lead 0-2 at evil Cardiff . BD will be pleased.
Bayern lead Basle 4-0 as Super Mario scored his second of the match and all we could manage was a draw and a loss against these bozos?
Crawley have tied it up vs Aldershot in the Surrey Derby. It is Daggenham 0 Northampton 0 in that relegation six pointer. A draw would be the best result from a Plymouth point of view.
Scunny have tied it up at Yeovil.
Colchester have tied it up vs the Blades. BD will be delighted.
Now Hull City lead 0-3 at Evil Cardiff.
LOVELY JUBBLY!
The teams are out of the tunnel at Anfield. The Real Dons now lead Bradford City 2-1.We're off at Anfield.
A free kick from Baines is headed away.
I just don't think he's a very good ref. He's experienced, and he's been tracked through the FIFA ranking which I understand to mean that he can be relied upon to police whatever currently bee is in FIFA or UEFA's bonnet. I think that's how Mark Clattenberg keeps showing up in CL and Europa League games. Not because he's good, he's not, but because he's a reliable company man.
We should have a long thread on Premiershp refs. The list of tolerable ones is pretty small. I shall think upon this and wait for more of your thoughts.
Baines tries to be fancy by the Liverpool corner flag and run the ball out of play.
I have always thought that Webb is good ref. He did have a poor match last night , but is usually consistent. Mark Clattenburg had a good start to his career, then declined after that year out from the game. I am not certain who I would represent the EPL at FIFA and UEFA matches if it is someone other than Webb. I can't think of anyone else reliable enough.
GOAL !!! 2-0 LIVERPOOL AS STEVIE G SCORES HIS AND LIVERPOOL'S SECOND AFTER SUAREZ DID A SUPERB JOB OF ASSISTING.
hENDERSON FOR ONCE DID WELL AS HE PUT sUAREZ THROUGH down the right, Suarez beat two players, then it was a superb finish by Stevie G into the roof of the net.
That should have been three as Andy Carroll shot wide form close range.
Northampton take the lead at Daggenham. Not as bad as I thought as Plymouth is still three points from safety as they are three behind Hereford and Macclesfield. It's the same as when the match was tied.Aldershot now lead 1-2 at Crawley.
Phil Dowd has booked Pienaar.
BLOODY NORAH! Bayern lead Basle 6-0 and Super Mario has scored four of those.
Yeovil take the lead vs Scunny.
To finish my response, it's not like the good old days when there seemed to be a higher standard of refereeing in England.
Still Inter 0 Marseille 0, so Marseille still lead on aggregate.
Ross County lead Morton 2-0 and look certain to make it two highland teams in the SPL next season. Will their stadium meet SPL requirements?
Great block by Ridwell from Jose Enrique.
Drenthe for Coleman , Osman for Stracq, and Jelavic for Anichebe as Moyes makes a triple substitution.
Diego Millito has given Inter the lead vs Marseille. It is 1-1 on aggregate . Extra time in the San Siro?
It's becoming farcical as Bayern lead Basle 7-0. Robben with his second.
Leicester City now lead Birmingham 2-1. A superb through ball from Suarez to Gerrard is cut out by Distin.
Surez shoots just wide with Timmy to beat.
wrexham lead 0-5 at hapless Ebbsfleet United.
POWER TO THE PEOPLE!
tHE PEOPLE ARE LOSING!
Reina easily catches a corner from Pienaar.
Kuyyt is on for Henderson.
Cambridge take the lead vs Barrow while league leaders , Fleetwood, take the lead at Mansfield.
I forgot to mention that Reading tied it up at Donny and I think that moves them one point ahead of the Hammers into an automatic promotion spot. Sorry John.
Baines is called for a foul on Suarez just outside the D from a long ball. Suarez went down far too easily from minimal contact. Most grannies would have stayed on their feet from that contact.
Bayern have defeated Basle 7-0.
The free kick is into the wall.
BLOODY NORAH ! mARSEILLE HAVE TIED IT UP IN THE SECOND MINUTE OF STOPPAGE TIME AND APPEARED TO HAVE ADVANCED TO THE QUARTERS AT THE EXPENSE OF INTER.
Stevenage defeat Oldham 2-0 with a last second winner. It has finished Colchester 1 Blades 1
Brandao scored the Marseille goal.
Now in the fifth minute of stoppage time in the San Siro.
Ross County blow a two goal lead vs Morton to draw 2-2, but they are twelve points ahead of second place Falkirk.
what a dramatic end from the San Siro as Marseille keeper, Steve Mandanda was sent off and Giampaolo Pazzini scored form the spot for Inter to put them 2-1 up in the sixth minute of stoppage time.It was not enough, though, and Marseille go through on the away goals rule. Curtains for Rainieri?Mandanda will be suspended for the first leg of the quarterfinal.
we are now in the eighth minute of stoppage time at Pride Park as Derby County lead Forest 1-0 thanks to a goal minutes earlier in stoppage time.
Now in the tenth minute of stoppage time at Pride Park.Derby County defeat Forest 1-0.
Leicester defeat Birmingham 3-1
Donny 1 Reading 1
Evil Cardiff 0 Hull City 3
There will be four minutes of stoppage time at Anfield.
Tony Hibbert is booked for a childish push on Jose Enrique.
well wide by Rodwell.
In League 2 it has finished Daggenham 0 Northampton 1.
Better than a Daggenham win.
GOAL !!!! 3-0 AS STEVIE G COMPLETES A HAT-TRICK THANKS TO UNSELFISH WORK FROM SUAREZ.
Stevie G put Suarez through, he cut in and could have shot , but laid it on for Stevie G. Phil Dowd blows the final whistle and Liverpool win 3-0. That is the first league hat-trick in this fixture since 1982 when Ian Rush did so. I remember that. I think he scored four that day.
Time for me to catch my breath. I will be back tomorrow for Chelsea vs Napoli in the CL.
CHEERS!
