Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Hello BD . I did not know that you posted a separate thread. I posted some comments about Antigua on the previous thread about their key players and the team in general.Should I restate them?
I've just looked at your comments - thanks for those, MUR. I don't know their side at all.
Key players are Dexter Blackstock of Forest, Mikele Leigertwood of Reading, Marvin McCoy, a defender with Wycombe Wanderers, and Kieran Murtaugh, a defender with Woking and Cambridge United.
No problem I think their short , fat keeper will be in for a long evening, especially in these conditions.
We're about to get underway.
We're off from soggy Raymond James Stadium.
The U.S. should win 8-0, but they will probably find a way to make this more difficult than it should be.
I haven't seen a team sheet yet so I'll try to pick out some of the players as we go along. It looks similar to the side I saw against Brazil.
I agree - it's often difficult to rouse a team against such inferior opposition.
I am sure everyone except Dexter Blackstock will be behind the ball.
They should try to test Five foot eight inch keeper, Molvin James, with crosses.
Tom Curtis, the English manager, will be in charge of Antigua.
Landycakes was far too casual there coughing up the ball in a dangerous area. Fortunately it was Griffiths rather than Naymar on the end of it.
I agree. Someone from the third tier of the U.S. football pyramid will be less likely to punish those errors. That's like the conference in England if that.
First corner for the U.S.
A long cross is put in and headed out for a U.S. corner as the keeper was reluctant to come for the cross. The corner is headed away.
And another...GOAL! Carlos Bocanegra gives the U.S. the perfect start from that second corner. Scrappy but effective.
Great header from Hercules Gomez only palmed out and Boca cleaned it up.
1-0!
GOAL !!! 1-0 MOLVIN JAMES FAILED TO HOLD A HEADER FROM GOMEZ OFF THE CORNER AND BOCANEGRA EASILY PUT THE REBOUND AWAY. I BELIEVE THE CORNER WAS FROM LANDY.
This keeper needs to be tested continuously and the U.S needs to score more.
You're right - that was poor handling from Jones. Could be a long night for the boy.
Marc Joseph is booked for a rough challenge on Gomez.
He's only 5 ft 8 in. Awfully short for a keeper as the U.S. win another corner.
Volleyed well over by Jermaine Jones after head tennis in the box. The keeper didn't even go for the cross.
Clint has a shot deflected for a corner after Torres cross was not cleared.Great save by James off of Bradley.
Gomez stabs a shot wide from the corner.
Lots of pressure now from the US, just as we would have wanted.
Great tackle there on Dempsey just as he was about to pull the trigger.
Clint is tackled for a corner off a great pass from Landy.
Goodson is on the end of the corner. Lots of joy off the set pieces.
Another corner as Goodson has a header deflected as James missed the cross. The next corner is wasted as a foul is called.
Horrible pass from Bradley after a great run from Landy.
I expect lots of late goals as the part timers will tire.
Leigertwood should have been booked for a tackle from behind as the U.S. attempted to break off an Antigua free kick.
Was Clint fouled in the box. He took too long to shoot.
Torres' crossing has been poor.
Not quite sure why Klinsmann feels he needs Jermaine Jones, Mo Edu and Michael Bradley in midfield tonight against the likes of Antigua.
Gomez shoots wide from a difficult angle.
I agree. That would be more appropriate for the match in Guatemala on Tuesday unless he's trying to keep the same system on a regular basis.
Come on, Clint - pull the trigger!
Too many passes in the box.
JUST SHOOT!
Sure - against Guatemala away we're going to need to keep it tight and have some seasoned veterans on board. But this might have been an opportunity to play some of the more exciting new prospects.
Jermaine Jones receives a lecture from the ref. It wasn't a severe challenge.
That is true. I would think that we would want to rout these semi pros.
Another good free kick there and Goodson headed into Jones's arms.
Now Griffith is lectured for a poor foul on Gomez. He should have been booked . That was more severe than the Jones challenge. Goodson heads straight to James off the free kick.
Torres has been useless . he should be replaced.
I agree - I don't rate Torres at all. He seems lightweight and a waster.
Gomez was flagged offside off a great long ball from Bocanegra.
Oh - why wasn't Gomez going for goal there? He's called offside anyway, but really!
That seemed a foul by George Dublin on Gomez , but a corner is given.
The corner is cleared.
Poor cross from Landy off a great long ball from Cherunduloh.
Useless by Torres. If he can't do it against these sub journeymen how will he do it in the World Cup?
Clint has a shot deflected as it is the ninth corner for the U.S.
Molvin James easily catches a poor corner then throws it away.
Great block by Goodson on Blackstock as the U.S. were caught napping on the set piece.
Great save by James.
Decent effort from Landy, but Molvin James was well positioned.
The US are taking their foot off the gas a bit and allowing Antigua a few chances.
Penalty to the U.S. - here's Landy's chance to get his 50th.
PENALTY !!! A GREAT U.S. MOVE AND KLANDY WAS OBVIOUSLY FOULED BY MARC JOSEPH IN THE BOX.,
No - it's Dempsey stepping up. I'm shocked.
Right down the middle and in - but a poor penalty.
GOAL !!! 2-0 AS CLINT MAKES NO MISTAKE FROM THE SPOT.
But they all count and it's 2-0. Clint's 26nd goal for the US.
A definite penalty and easy decision for the ref.
I agree - UWS commented that it was a "stonewall penalty."
I am sure Tom Curtis will be giving Marc Joseph the hairdryer treatment at halftime.
One minute of stoppage time.
Will UWS be commenting in the second half?
Half-time - That'll do. 2-0 at the half. We're off for some ice cream.
Halftime and the U.S. lead 2-0, but it's been a shite performance. No other way to describe it.
Enjoy. Sounds like fun.
Mexico lead Guyana 1-0 with an early goal.
Mexico now leads Guyana 2-0
The second half is underway from Raymond James Stadium.
Another U.S. offside.
USeless cross by Torres, but it's another U.S. corner.
Usless corner as a foul is called
USeless from Landy as he is easily tackled by Griffith.
Jones is called for a foul off a superb long ball.
Useless cross from Torres , but it's cleared for a corner.
The corner is cleared and Leigertwood leads an Antigua break , but he is easily tackled.
Useless cross from Torres on a U.S. break and it should have been 3-0.
Now Torres is down injured as he made a sliding tackle.
Torres is stretchered off and it looks like Gooch will be on in his place. Why an extra defender?
Now Gooch is on . I wonder if there will be a reshuffle.
Antigua have a shot on goal as a long range effort is high and wide,.
OH! OFF THE BAR THEN jAMES FUMBLES ASHOT THAT IS CLEARED AWAY.
Great run down the left by Bocanegra as he teed it off for Gomez to shoot off the bar ,then a cross from Bradley was nearly deflected for an O.G., but James was in the right spot.Marc Joseph is down injured for Antigua.
Back from the ice cream run. UWS has just commented that Landycakes seems disinterested. I agree.
Great pass from Jones to Landy and his cross nearly went in for an O.G.but it went out for a corner.
It seems that way. What type of ice cream , how many scoops? It seemed awfully quick for ice cream.
Where are my manners? Welcome back. The U.S. had a shot come off the bar and nearly two OGs by Antigua defenders. Torres went off injured and was replacced by Gooch. Just what we need ; another defender.
GOAL! Unbelievable! We've let bloody Antigua score.
2-1 Game on!
BLOODY HELL. BYERS SCORES A JOKE OF A GOAL AS HE WENT EASILY PAST THE U.S. DEFENSE AND BEAT TIMMY EASILY AT THE NEAR POST.
It was right down the street. Dave had a boring cone of soft serve vanilla. I had two scoops of carrot cake ice cream. Lovely!
That goal was all down to Gooch's poor positioning.
Mexico leads Guyana 2-0 at the half.
Griffith picks up a yellow for a push on Gomez.
Great originality on your part and poor by UWS. Is he trying to be as boring and predictable as this U.S. team and to think he complained that Man Yoo were too boring. Ho hum vanilla.
Griffith has been looking for that yellow for a while .
James tips a deflected effort over the bar.
The corner is easily headed away.
Oh - off the post!
If this is the best we can do then it might be time for another managerial change. Are we any better than under Bradley's leadership?
Great save by James from Bradley and now it's another corner.
Great save by James from Gomez off a cross from Landy.
GOAL! Gomez restores a bit of pride. 3-1!
GOAL !!!! 3-1 U.S. AS GOMEZ SCORES AFTER A COUPLE OF BLOCKED SHOTS AFTER A GREAT RUN BY LANDY.
I was about to start the sack Jurgen campaign.
Gomez was called for a foul from a through ball by Jones.
I'll bet you were - and I would have signed that petition.
I thought Cherunduloh was fouled , but it's another corner.
Still seems like a good idea. Jurgen must be another vanilla ice cream person.
Bad enough I rushed to cook dinner so I could make it in time for this terrible performance.
Jozy is on for Hercules.
Useless cross from Jozy.
Another poor cross that easily cleared by Lawson Robson.
Terrance Boyd came on and that is his first competitive match for the U.S. , so he is not eligible to play for Germany.
The US seem satisfied with the 3-1 win now. I'm not.
Timmy tips a long range effort over from Byers after the U.S. conceded possession.
Not sure why. This is a tiny island nation that is made of primarily non league players.
SACK JURGEN!
Oh - Dempsey over the bar!
Just over by Clint as Chicharito puts Mexico 3-0 up vs Guyana.
Now Edu gives it away.
Basically the U.S. sucks.
Now Boyd gives it away cheaply.
Well wide by Griffith from long range.
Into stoppage time.
Three minutes of stoppage time.
Terrance Boyd has a weak effort easily blocked.
Landy shoots tamely at James and the U.S wins 3-1, but it was a shite performance to put it mildly.
Tame effort from Landy ends the match. Mission accomplished, I suppose. But I'm not as impressed tonight as I was against Brazil.
The U.S. will need to do better against Guatemala or they will be watching Brazil 2014 from their living room.
I agree. There are some interesting Group B matches tomorrow.
Well, it's been a great day chatting with you. I'm hoping that UWS will join us on the desktop tomorrow and maybe we'll hear from some of the others on this first weekend of Euro 2012 action. Tomorrow's matches couldn't be better - Netherlands v. Denmark followed by Germany v. Portugal.
Cheers BD. It was great chatting with you. Send my best to the Nocitos.
Mexico does a U.S. and Guyana pulls one back vs Mexico. They lead by an identical 3-1 score.
Well Bob, you predicted a goal fest at the end of the day, but it was not the US, but rather the last game of the day in Europe. The Russkies are developing into a European Championships force. If they continue strongly, they will likely be facing Germany or the Netherlands, so they will be tested early.
