Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

We;re a minute into Wigan vs Chelsea from the DW
GOAL !!! 0-1 CHELSEA.
CAN YOU ADAM AND EVE IT AS WIGAN DID ALL THE ATTACKING
CHELSEA WON THE BALL IN THE WIGAN BOX, THEN HAZARD SUPERBLY PUT IVANOVIC THROUGH AND HE FINISHED WITH THE QUALITY OF WORLD CLASS STRIKER WITH JUST THE KEEPER TO BEAT
Morning, MUR. Sorry for my tardiness to the action. I've missed the opening goal by Ivanovic. Hazard seems to have made an immediate impact.
And now Chelski have a penalty. It's that man Hazard again!!!
A really foolish challenge there from the defender Ramic.
And Lamps has an early chance to start his 2012/13 tally....
Blasts it home! 2-0!
PENALTY CHELSEA AS RAMIS TRIPS HAZARD IN THE BOX.
GOAL !! 0-2 CHELSEA AS LAMPARD EASILY PUTS THE PENALTY PAST AL HABSI
The color guy got it exactly right. He puffed out his cheeks, indicating a blast and he got lucky with it going under the keeper.
Chelski off to a dream start. Wigan are shell-shocked!
Good morning,BD. I was pouring myself a cup of coffee and just made it in time for the pen. A definite impact by Hazard.
Well, I asked for goals and I've got them in spades so far. This may be one of these cases of figuring out just how good vs. just how bad these teams are mismatched.
Agreed, BD.Is it too early to say this one is done and dusted.
And the Chelski faithful are singing the praises of their new Belgian already. He's an instant fan favorite. Who needs Fernando Torres?
It might be. Wigan seem to start seasons slowly, but finish very strong. It might be an early season thing.
I think Hazrd plays a different role than El Nino. He should be providing chances for Torres.
Gary Caldwell decides that the best policy of dealing with Hazard is to kick him and he goes into the book.
Naughty by Caldwell on Hazard. Graft fouls craft
Plenty of goals today as Dundee United lead Dundee 3-0 at halftime of the Dundee derby. Their stadiums are 40 yards apart.
That must be a cracking atmosphere in Dundee.
My favorite Wigan player runs the ball out of play.
There has to be now that there won't be an Old Form Derby for at least three years. It's up to Edinburgh and Dundee to pick up the slack.
Wigan are trying their best to creep back into this match as Chelski relax a bit. The problem for them is that the Chelski backfour are notoriously stingy.
A corner from Shaun Maloney is easily cleared, but Wigan kept possession.
Agreed. I think Chelsea have three points in the bag
Who's your favorite (or least favorite) Wigan player?
I guess MacArthur nudged Mata, who went down rather easily.
The favorite is Victor Moses. I want him to go to OT and I wanted him in the England squad for the Euros.
OH! Headed just over by Di Santo off a great cross from Emmerson Boyce.
AZ Kicker, Chelskilad, Gooner, Simon, Someone Said, Thomas, UWS and West Ham Rising will all be happy to see this Wigan form - they all predicted Wigan's relegation!
A combo of JT and Lamps foul Victor Moses just outside the box.
A rare free kick chance for Wigan now...
Headed out.
The free kick is headed away as wigan had a lengthy possession.
I did not pick Wigan as they normally have strong finishes. I expect to see them in the EPL next season.
I'm still feeling relatively safe in my relegation prediction. Wigan tend to specialize in grabbing points off fellow strugglers while getting pounded by the big boys.
I agree with you, MUR.
I thought Ivanovic was supposed to be suspended after the red card last week.
They were helped by wins vs Man Yoo and at Arsenal and Liverpool last season. Nine priceless points.
Wonder what Eden Hazard's brother's name is? Road Hazard? Wind Hazard? Sand Trap Hazard?
El Nino looks to be in similar form to last year. Picks up a great ball and immediately runs toward the nearest Wigan defender.
JT seems to have taken a knock. He'll try to run it off.
Now it's James McCarthy going into the book. Players like Mata and Hazard just seem a step too quick for the Wigan defenders to handle.
No - the ref is being patient with McCarthy.
BOOM BOOM, BD. I will go with Sand Trap Hazard. Do you remember Mickey Hazard, who played with Spurs in the 80s?
I do remember Micky, yes.
I agree with you about El Nino.I am surprised with wigan's tackling because Wigan is supposed to be the La Liga side of the EPL.
I think Mickey played for Chelsea too, so the Chelsea fans would be incorrect to chant "There's Only One Hazard."
David Luiz has now gone in the book.
Caldwell and McCarty should be warned that lack of speed is a Hazard.
I didn't see much in that challenge from MacArthur on Hazard . He was holding his head even though he was never touched there.
Cech tips a cross from Emmerson Boyce around the post.
The corner leads to another
The next one fails to beat the first man.
Chelsea counter, but there is better defending on Hazard this time around.
I am here boys
What a bummer about the score!
Great run by Victor Moses, but overcooked the cross.
Just as I had imagined, Wigan don't really have the quality to peg Chelski back even when they've taken their foot off the pedal.
Good morning UWS. I agree. Wigan were hit with two early hazardous sucker punches.
Morning, UWS!
Figueroa wins a corner off of Ivanovic. The corner is easily headed away
There will be two minutes of stoppage time.
Oh - DiSanto had the chance to prove me wrong and his first touch was poor. The chance evaporated.
Better from Wigan but Di Santo could not take advantage as he was put through, got past Cech, put it across the box.
They really need this free kick to fizz in, and the match does as well.
Half time... bugger
Maloney with a backpass to Cech. They have to do better from set pieces if they're to have any chance.
Wigan troop off at half time looking pretty dejected.
Now wigan have a free kick about 25 yards out.Maloney shoots it tamely to Cech. And Chelsea lead 0-2 at the half.
Agreed. Is a lack of quality a Hazard to one's EPL survival chances?
Chelsea are wearing the colors of the Lakenheath(Feltwell) Middle School!
What was our nickname?
Leopards? Panthers?
I do not remember, but did not know that those were Feltwell colors. Poor by Roman to steal ideas from Feltwell.
Plush new studio for FSC!
Comfy chairs!
Ivanovic shouldn't be playing today but they changed the rules!
A couple of years ago, Scholes and Rooney were sent off in the preseason and were banned for the beginning of the season. Ivanovic was sent off last week in the Charity Shield but, because of the rule change, he was allowed to play
I agree. Of course, Chelsea benefit from the rule changes as Ivanovic scored the first goal
The second half is underway from the DW.
Here we go for the second half
Come on Wigan.. and Sotton
An early free kick to Wigan thanks to a clumsy challenge by David Luiz.
I'm back for the second half. The Feltwell Junior High School mascot was the Leopards. Not sure what the Lakenheath Middle School one is.
Cech punches away the free kick , then Di Santo has a shot blocked.
Brilliant push by Di Santo on JT!
Shaun Maloney is crocked and Jordi Gomez is coming on to replace him.
Maloney off after three minutes!
Jordi Gomez is on for Shaun Maloney, who goes off injured. A tough loss for Wigan as he is one of their most creative players
The Tangerines win 3-0 in the Dundee Derby thanks to those first half goals.
Useless cross from Figueroa.
Oh - Ashley Cole has a chance to shoot on goal but it's a difficult skill for him to master.
Cashley shoots high and wide.
Oh - Ryan Bertrand turned really well and fed Lamps who dawdled on the ball in the box.
I just checked and noticed that Carlos Bocanegra played for Rangers yesterday as there was about six internationals starting for Rangers.I think that ends Carlos's international career as he is playing in the fourth tier of Scottish footie
Possession means absolutely nothing as Wigan have had 60% of it, but have done precious little.
I doubt it, actually. Boca is still the captain of the US side and a regular in the middle of defense. I wish it weren't the case, as I think he's a liability. I'd prefer to see Michael Parkhurst in his role.
One too many fouls by MacArthur on Hazard and he is finally booked.
I mentioned that because he is not helping his case by playing in the Scottish Third Division, which is the equivalent of the sixth tier of English footie. If he moved up the divisions then I might change my mind, but you bring up a good point.
Poor finish by Di Santo after some good football from Wigan, especially that pass from Victor Moses.
Advantage played and Moses had a chance to curl one. Well wide.
Now Victor Moses is part of the poor finishing and after I was campaigning for him.
It's absolutely true that Boca got found out in the Premiership at Fulham but somehow he continues to be a fixture in the US side. I don't get it - there are better options IMHO.
The fizz has gone out of this match
Oh - this could be fun. Brazilian youngster Oscar is about to make his Chelski debut.
Oscar gets set to make his Chelsea debut.
Oh - Torres nearly had his opener there but it was just saved off the line.
we need something to liven this match.
Hazard comes off after a very satisfactory debut.
Torres was unlucky not to score as Oscar is on for his Chelsea debut, to replace Hazard who had a great debut.
Good point , BD. Is Parkhurst on the Revs? I would think MLS is a better standard of play then the Scottish Third Division.
Mikkel complains about being played. Like he's never guilty.
DiSanto goes off - poor from him today. New boy Arouna Kone comes on with another contender for silliest haircut of the new season.
Arouna Kone is on for Di Santo
Cheapest dye job for sure.
Oh - Oscar nearly scores an immediate debut goal. Just whistled by the post.
Nearly a debut goal for Oscar as he shot just wide with just the keeper to beat off a superb headed pass.
Parkhurst did play for the Revs but he's been at FC Nordsjælland in the Danish Superliga for the last couple of seasons. Not sure quite how that rates next to the third tier of Scottish footer.
Gomez blows one there - they've had their chances but Wigan's strikers just aren't good enough. They'll struggle to score goals this season at this rate.
That was an excellent chance for Wigan as Jordi Gomez had a free header and it went well wide off a great cross from Victor Moses.
I would think the Danish Superliga is compatible to the SPL. I would definitely give Parkhurst a chance.
Poor first touch by Arouna Kone.
Chelski look very comfortable now.
Wigan had problems scoring last season and for basically the same reason./
Why wasn't Lamps put in the book there?
His name kept his name out of the book
Lampard fouls Jordi Gomez just outside the box.
Gomez takes the free kick and Cech collects.
The free kick from Gomez is easily saved by Cech
I agree, UWS.
What do Arsenal and an ipod that is turned off have in common?
Neither have a Song playing!!
Chelski seem to be settling for a 2-0 win here, which will have them fourth ahead of the late one.
Southampton should over take them by the afternoon!
It is amazing how many headed clearances JT gets through in the course of an afternoon. Wonder what he takes for headaches after a match?
Yeah - it's fun to dream, eh, UWS?
Chelskilad has chosen Fernando Torres as his Golden Boot boy. I see no evidence today that he's gotten over whatever non-footballing virus he picked up two years ago. It's remarkable how far off the pace he's fallen in two seasons.
Meireles in for Mata now.
BOOM BOOM ! Good one, UWS
agreed, BD. I don't expect Tony to win the GB this season.
Oh - Kone had a free header there. Poor.
Wigan should have scored there
Alcaraz wins a corner off of Bertrand and it is headed well wide by Kone?
What did my recent trip to the loo have in common with wigan?
STRUTH... ANOTHER MISS
Just hit the target... don't hit it like a rocket
Wigan just cannot score! Chelski keep giving them encouragement. Kone hit Cech on the line and then Gomez tried the bike. Not even close.
A nice run by Victor Moses and the cross comes off of Kone. A bicycle by Gomez is well wide.
Dunno, MUR. I hate to think. You couldn't hit the target in front of you?
What's the answer
You're piss poor
Luiz has a stooping header saved by Al Habsi.
Torres was fouled about a foot outside the box. How was that not a booking? The free kick is straight to Al Habsi
They're both crap?
Close, UWS.Shite finishing.
I will give you credit for the second answer, UWS. Crap is the theme.
Crap Chelsea corner as this match is going down the crapper.
BLOW UP REF!
Gomez - and another chance goes begging. Pity the poor Wigan fans who are going to have to watch this shite week in week out.
Miles wide by Jordi Gomez.More crap finishing.
I have been reading stuff about United lately and people have said(including Rio) has said that RVP should be a kick up the backside to Rooney
Hope so
Three minutes of stoppage time.
I saw that Chelsea play Reading on Wednesday. They don't play the weekend of September 1st. I bet they have the European Super Cup
Agreed , UWS.Wouldn't Chicharito be a perfect fit for this Wigan side.
That is is the reason why, UWS.
How do you imagine that United will run out? RVP up top, with Roon in the hole and Young and Nani out wide? Welbeck and Chicha on the bench?
Now Boyce heads miles wide.
That would be my guess, BD.
The two bobbies shake hands at the end of a match that was over in the 6th minute, to be fair. I'm off for a shower before the late one.
Who picks Chelsea's fixtures!
Wigan, Reading
Last season Stoke, West Brom, Norwich!
Women's Auxiliary is next
Chelsea win 0-2 at the DW in a horribly played match.
I think the Hammers have an easy start too.
Game over
Off for a bit of a break
Be back for THE SAINTS GO MARCHING IN....I'm going to be with that number
I am off for a walk
I'll be back!
Rodwell gets his debut
A shocker... Hart is fit!
LINE-UPS- Man City v Southampton (16:00 BST)
Man City: Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany, Lescott, Clichy, Silva, Rodwell, Toure, Nasri, Aguero, Tevez. Subs: Pantilimon, Milner, Dzeko, Kolarov, Savic, De Jong, Balotelli.
Southampton: Kelvin Davis, Clyne, Fonte, Hooiveld, Fox, Ward-Prowse, Lallana, Schneiderlin, Puncheon, Rodriguez, Do Prado. Subs: Gazzaniga, Lambert, Steven Davis, Sharp, Richardson, Shaw, Seaborne.
Referee: Howard Webb (S Yorkshire)
I read that Rio injured himself in training.
Could be out a month!
I have now noticed it on a lot of websites
Rio has a groin injury and is out
Carrick next to Vidic?
Ok, I am off on that walk
I just got back from that walk . I'm in that number too.
Rio plays as if he's injured even when he's fit. I wonder if Phil Jones would slot in the center ir is he injured too.
Interesting line-up for Citeh. Jack Rodwell straight into the line-up! Looks like a straight 4-4-2 for Roberto.
Southampton on the other hand seem to be throwing caution to the wind. I predict a 6-0 Citeh win.
Thomas and I will be hoping that our GBB Sergio Aguero will get off to a goalscoring start today, while Simon will hope for the same from Carlos Tevez.
Is it WHEN THE SAINTS GO MARCHING IN or is it COME ON YOU REDS???
I will hoping that Aguero and Tev shoot blanks.
So the champions get started on their new campaign.
We're off from the Etihad.
Webby doesn't cotton to the tape around David Silva's socks. Silly stuff.
David Silva has a knock in the first minute. Why is he starting?
Jack Rodwell starts his Citeh campaign with a crunching tackle on Lalana.
The Saints win an early corner as Rodwell puts in a firm challenge.
The short corner is a disaster
The Saints full of enterprise in the early going.
This will definitely be a stiff test for the newly promoted Saints, back in the big time for the first time in seven years
Some slick passing from the Saints, but Nasri does well to play Citeh out of danger by the corner flag.
A tight offside decision there on Tevez.
Kompany is called for a foul on a Saints counter started by Schneiderlin.
Oh dear - this looks bad for Aguero. I hope not.
Get up, lad.
An ambitious long range effort from Ward-Krause then Aguero is down from a hard, but fair challenge.
Balotelli and Dzeko up and warming themselves.
Bloody hell - my GBB is gone in 8 minutes!
Looks bad for your GBB while Balo and Dzeko warm up.
Sorry Bob. That is unlucky for you.
Aguero limps off. will he be able to continue?
The Saints will temporarily be playing against ten men
Oh - Schneiderlin had a chance there but shanked it wide.
Poor clearance by Kompany as Da Prado and Llana combine to set up Schneiderlin.
Aguero getting a warm round of applause as he stretchered off around the pitch.
So Aguero is stretchered off and who will be on in his place?
So Dzeko will replace Aguero now.
It looks like Dzeko after Rodriguez got it all wrong with that cross for the Saints.
Two blocked shots by the Saints as that was better from Citeh.
Penalty to Citeh as Tevez goes down in the box!
A cross from Zabaletta is cleared then Citeh win A PENALTY
I am back.... penalty to Citeh!
Bugger
