More Midweek Footie Madness!
I'm marooned in the office on a bitter cold winter day, but that doesn't mean that I can't follow along with the good stuff this afternoon. The marquee match this afternoon is Spurs hosting Citeh. Both sides are in improved form, so it will be fascinating to see how they line up. Anyone care to join me?

Good afternoon, Bob. I am home alone with Elizabeth and the pets , getting ready to enjoy more footie madness. That's the life!
Afternoon, chaps! The other Premiership morsels on offer this afternoon:
Villa v. West Brom
Chelski v. West Ham
Sunderland v. Stoke
Afternoon, MUR! And congratulations again on the snow day. That's quite a feat for south Texas!
Thanks Bob. It was actually a freezing drizzle day. Now up to a balmy 40 degrees, but still breezy.
I've got a lovely link up through First Row for the match.
Here are the line-ups:
Tottenham Hotspur: Lloris, Walker, Dawson, Chiriches, Rose, Bentaleb, Dembele, Lennon, Eriksen, Sigurdsson, Adebayor.
Subs: Soldado, Holtby, Capoue, Naughton, Defoe, Chadli, Friedel.
Manchester City: Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany, Demichelis, Clichy, Jesus Navas, Toure, Fernandinho, Silva, Dzeko, Aguero.
Subs: Lescott, Negredo, Kolarov, Rodwell, Pantilimon, Nastasic, Jovetic.
Referee: Andre Marriner (W Midlands)
The match is being televised on NBCSN , or are you at work?
I'm marooned at work this afternoon, mate.
Still - I've got a pretty conducive work schedule this semester. Tuesdays I should be able to run home and Wednesdays I don't teach until 7pm.
The girls are at school. Harlingen CISD started school two hours late, so school started at 10 for Jacquelyn and 10:25 for Melanie.
Yeegads! I've got the politically incorrect pairing of Old Hairy Hands and Andy Gray in the studio for the BEin coverage.
Nice schedule mate. I got off due to freezing rain, not snow. It was 33 this morning, but ice patches on tree limbs and power lines.
That's not too bad for them - they at least didn't have an early start in the freezing rain.
I've got the politically correct Arlo and Graeme! I sympathize with your dilemma!
It's 17F right now and will drop to -3F tonight here in frigid Fred-Town.
They're off from SFL!
Jon Champion and Clive Allen doing the commentary.
COME ON CITEH!
Spurs could do their cross-town rivals a favor tonight by nicking a point or three off them.
Farcical weather here! Freezing rain this morning. Highs near 70 tomorrow and upper 70s Friday and Saturday. A roller coaster forecast
Citeh or Chelsea could go top, to the dismay of Gooner.
That is farcical! Make sure you don't get sick in all of those ups and downs.
Citeh won the reverse fixture 6-0.
OH! Off the post from Aguero.
The Baggies take the lead at Villa in a Black Country Derby.
Chris Brunt with the goal.
Wow - a student just popped in when he heard the footie on and shook my hand and said, "I'm a huge Premier League fan!" How things have changed in this country!
What a run there from Aguero!
The Baggies are now improbably up into the top half.
If Chelsea win and Citeh lose then I will have the first and third placed teams correctly placed and will probably go up four places in the table . It's that tight./
Thanks for the healthy wishes. The third consecutive week we've had this topsy turvy weather pattern. the girls and I have stayed healthy, but plenty of sick students at school.
It really is that tight. Arsenal on top is doing no one any favors in the PPP.
The Baggies are 2-0 up - our Leeds old boy Fab Delph with an o.g.!
The Baggies now two up at villa Park thanks to an OG straight from the LUFC Academy!
We didn't teach him that there, I promise!
spot on Bob. The Baggies now up to tenth.
LOL, Bob!
Villa pull one back and now trail the Baggies 1-2.
Villa are back in it! Weimann with a neat little finish. Good value for money there at Villa Park today.
1-2!
Holtby told by Tim Sherwood that he can leave SFL. Bob will be delighted.
GOAL !!! AGUERO SCORES WITH A SUBLIME FINISH AND CITEH ARE NOW TOP.
GOAL! Lovely team move from Citeh. Kompany to Silva, Silva to Aguero and a delightful finish on the angle.
0-1 Citeh!
Dzeko tries a pop from distance. Well wide but it shows the confidence of the side.
A really impressive finish by Aguero, considering LLoris came out to narrow the angle. Superb through ball from Silva. It started with a throw from Hart and six passes later Citeh took the lead.
Ade wins a corner off of Navas. Taken short and a poor cross from Danny Rose easily clears/
Adam Johnson gives Sunderland the lead and I believe the Black Cats are now out of the drop zone.
ANdreas Weimann with the Villa goal as Ade had a shot that took a wicked deflection for a corner. Nearly an OG by Kompany off the corner as it made it straight to Hart
Citeh go straight up the pitch and nearly go two up as Lloris makes a Goprdon Banks type save from a close range header from Aguero. Superb run and cross by Navas.
Citeh win their first corner of the match and the corner from Silva is cleared off the line by Rose and it's headed back into Silva whose shot is about six inches over' with Lloris beaten.
They are indeed out of the dropzone. It's now West Ham, Fulham and then Cardiff on the bottom.
Zaba with a left footed curler that is also over by about six inches. A clearance went straight to him./
Spot on by Arlo as he stated that Spuds are like a deer in the headlights. An accurate description
Desmond at Villa Park! Bacuna with a bobbly finish for the equalizer.
I thought Spurs had had improved few minutes, but they're always vulnerable on the counter.
Villa have come from two down as it is now Desmond vs the Baggies in a classic West Country Derby. Bacuna with the Villa goal
Celtic two up vs Killie .
surprise surprise!
Silva has a shot come off of rose for a Citeh corner.
Jerko has a volley blocked off the corner from Navas.
Rose tackle Jerko for another corner.
Citeh are rampant now - chance after chance coming!
Kompany heads well wide off the corner.
Absolutely , Bob. Probably the best team in the Prem , based on current form.
Bentaleb heads wide off a corner from Eriksen./
Yaya booked for naughty challenge on Dembele.
The free kick from Eriksen is far too deep for any Spuds players
Yaya fouls Danny Rose about a foot outside the box. Minimal contact.
Danny Rose goes down easily there and Zaba and Yaya aren't happy about it.
Spurs have it in the net through a tap in for Dawson but it's ruled out for offside.
Michael Dawson volleys the free kick from Eriksen at the far post and off the bar, but it's disallowed for offside. Hard to tell from the replay.
The replay shows that Dawson was about a foot offside. A great decision from the linesman/
Villa now lead the Baggies 3-2 after being two down early on. Delph has now scored for both sides. He was taught well at the LUFC Academy.
DE Michelis booked for a foul on Ade.
Villa are right back in it. 3-2 at Villa Park with a stonking finish from Fab Delph. He learned that at the LUFC Academy, for sure!
Dembele shoots well wide after a free kick from Eriksen was headed out by Kompany.
Soo right , Bob.
Aguero down injured on the halfway line, receiving treatment.
3-3 at Villa Park - what a match!
BLOODY NORAH ! It's 3-3 at Villa Park. What a Black Country Derby! Mulumbu with the goal for the Baggies.
Jovetic on for the injured Aguero.
Aguero has hobbled off injured to be replaced by Jovetic.
Three minutes of stoppage time./
De Michelis heads a free kick from Navas well wide.
Citeh lead by a goal by Sergio Ageuro as it's halftime at SHL/
Citeh currently top as Chelsea are being held 0-0 by the Hammers at SB.
Half-time at Shite Fart. I'm off to make some copies.
The second half is underway from SFL.
We're back on at Shite Fart for the second half and Silva has been clobbered already.
Silva down injured form a foul by the out of favor Etienne Capoue. Fortunate not to be booked as he came on as a halftime sub.
Andre Marriner has been a Shite Fart Ref.
PENALTY CITEH AS DANNY ROSE HAS CLEARLY FOULED JERKO. DANNY ROSE OFF FOR DENYING A SCORING OPPROTUNITY.
GOAL !!! YAYA EASILY SOCRES, SENDING LLORIS THE WRONG WAY
It will be tough for the Spuds, two goals down and now a man down. The red card was the correct decision based on the letter of the law.
GOAL !!!! CITEH RUNNING RIOT AS THEY GO THREE UP.
Gooner will be laughing as that Dzeko goal goes in.
Silva down the right to Zabba and back to Silva , whose shot was pushed on to the post by Lloris and Jerko easily put away the rebound.
Not sure. His Gunners are no longer top because of that.
Back to the penalty. Spuds caught out as they were for the third goal. Silva to Fernanandinho, who played a superb through ball and Rose was caught out by Jerko and paid the price.
Clichy tackles Lennon for a corner. Poor first touch by Lennon.
GOAL! Capoue gets one back from the corner, bundling one over the line.
GOAL!!! CAPOUE SCORES OFF THE CORNER FROM ERIKSEN AS HIS SHOT DEFLECTED OFF OF FERNANDINHO ON THE LINE.
This may be Capoue's last match for the Spuds as he may be on his way to Raffa's Napoli.
Chelski seem to be squandering the opportunity to go second and are still being held by the Hammers.
That would be an excellent result fort he Hammers and one of the shock results of the season.
Nastasic on for Yaya, who is escorted off by Ade.
Kyle Naughton booked for a nasty challenge on Navas.
Jerko fires over from close range off a nice long ball from Clichy.
VILLA now lead the Baggies 4-3 thanks to a penalty from Beneteke.
Celtic now three up vs Killie.
wide by Jerko off a 25 pass possession. Citeh really toying with the Spuds.
Good to see Benteke scoring again.
Jerko straight at Lloris off yet another long Citeh possession. Damage limitation for the Spuds.
Citeh doing the Barca possession thing now.
The Potato eaters just cannot get the ball back.
The Spuds chasing "Shadows", as UWS would say.
Stupidity from Zaba as he punts the ball away after being called for afoul on Ade and is booked for that.
Hart punches away a free kick from Eriksen that he could have easily caught then the through ball from Kyle Naughton is far too long and it's a waste for the Spuds.
GOAL !!!! JOVETIC SCORES HIS FIRST PREM GOAL FOR CITEH WITH A LOVELY FIONISH AS CITEH NOW LEAD 1-4.
GOAL! Jovetic scores his first goal for Citeh!
1-4!
A long clearance from Nastasic found Fernandinho and he did well to find Jovetic down the left. He cut inside and his shot deflected off the thigh of Ciraces and went in the far corner
The final substitution for Citeh as Kolorov is on for Silva.
Jerko finds Row Z off a pass from Clichy.
Lewis Holtby on for Eriksen . He and Capoue , both second half subs , have been told by Tim Sherwood that they are free to leave
We would have seen ten goals if we had watched the first half if Villa vs West Brom and the second half of this match. If we had watched both then we would have seen a dozen goals.
Nearly a fifth for Citeh . A great run down therioght by Navas as Jovetic missed the pass from Navas then a great save by Lloris from Kolorov.
GOAL !!! BAD KOMAPNY FOR SPUDS AS BENTALEB BLOCKED A SHOT FROM JERKO OFF A CORNER AND THE SKIPPER EASILY PUT AWAY THE REBOUND.
The Spuds have been hit for eleven by Citeh this season in the Prem. three minutes of stoppage time.
Citeh now 1-5 up at The Lane.
Bentaleb fouls Jovetic. Citeh take it short
Llorisdoes well to block from Jerko, then Jovetic called for hand ball.
Sunderland have defeated Stoke 1-0 and are out of the bottom three for the first time this season.
Citeh top as they win 1-5 at SFL.
OFF to SB and Chelsea being held 0-0 as Adrian made a superb save.
Etoo wins a late corner.Headed into the air by Ba and wide by Ivanovic.
Adrian fumbles a shot from Hazard then gathers at the second attempt.
It's over as Ba heads just wide and the final whistle blows. Chelsea surprisingly held 0-0 by the Hammers as seven minutes of stoppage time were played when only four were assigned. A Chelsea win would have been really controversial.
Villa win a thriller of Black Country Derby as they defeat the Baggies 4-3.
So, Citeh go top thanks to an impressive win at SFL and due to the fact thast Arsenal and Chelsea were held to draws by Sotton and the Hammers respectively. The top of the table is :
Citeh 53 pts +42 gd
Arsenal 52 pts + 24 gd
Chelsea 50 pts + 23 gd
Sunderland are out of the drop zone for the first time this season as they defeated Stoke 1-0. The Hammers stay in the drop zone despite that impressive 0-0 draw at The Bridge. The bottom of the table :
West Brom 22 Pts -6 gd
Stoke 22 pts -15 gd
Sunderland 21 pts -14 gd
Hammers 19 pts -11 gd
Fulham 19 pts -28 gd
Cardiff 18 pts -23 gd
It was great chatting with you Bob. Have a great rest of the weekend . Cheers mate
