England vs. Denmark Live!
Join me this afternoon as the Three Lions take on Denmark in a World Cup warm-up against Denmark at Wemberley. It's another chance for Woy to look at a few new combinations and a few players who are on the bubble do to their Premiership form. I'll be manning the LOB this afternoon from 2:30 onward - come on, England!
207 Comments:
I've got a lovely link for the BEin coverage of the match tonight through First Row.
In some of the early kickoffs, Brazil have walloped South Africa 0-5 with goals from Oscar and Fernandinho as well as a hat-trick from the boy Neymar.
Ukraine are currently 1-0 up over the US in that hastily rearranged match.
The line-ups for tonight's match:
England: Hart, Johnson, Cahill, Smalling, Cashley, Wilshere, Henderson, Gerrard, Sterling, Roon, Sturridge. Subs: Ruddy, Foster, Shaw, Forster, Baines, Caulker, Carrick, Milner, Lamps, Barkley, Clev, Lallana, The Ox, Townsend, Lambert, Defoe, Welbeck, Rodriguez.
Denmark: Schmeichel, Sloth, Agger, Kjaer, Ankerson, Kvist, Jacobsen, Poulsen, Krohn, Larsen, Bendtner. Subs: Andersen, Lossi, Kahlenberg, Bjelland, Kush, Olsen, Zimling, Rasmussen, Delaney, Ankersen, Juelsgaard, Christoffsson.
The players are out and the anthems starting with Denmark are cranking up.
Half-time in Belarus - Ukraine are still 1-0 up.
The formalities done, we're ready for kickoff. Martin Tyler on the microphone this afternoon - loverly.
I'm a bit shocked that Kasper Schmeichel is Denmark's #1.
England have 18 subs but can only use six of them tonight. I'd like to see Luke Shaw get on and prove himself above Ashley Cole, who is old news.
A moment of applause for both Ebgkadb legend Tom Finney and Denmark manager Richard Moller Nielson.
Alright then - come on, England!
A nervous first touch for Sterling unable to collect a long ball from his club captain Gerrard.
Oh - Johnson found Sterling well there but after he jinked in well, he scuffed his cross.
Rooney seems already to be dropping deep into the hole with Daniel Sturridge up front alone.
Woy has promised not only wholesale changes at half-time but also a change in formation and tactics to try out something different.
Total control of possession by England so far.
I am here Bob at the 5 minute mark
I have a link on the computer and the US on the TV
How ironic that the US are playing Ukraine!!
Roon's been knocked off the ball by Kjaer a couple of times as he's dropped deep to collect.
Hiya, Davey - great to have you on board. How are you, mate?
Oh - decent chipped cross by Sterling there but no one was attacking it.
Decent cross by Sterling… no one at the back post!
Sturridge ran to the front… someone has to loop to the back
Sorry, that was Sturridge with the cross over. Roon was too deep.
I'm not bad.. a long day at school today! Thankfully, no class tonight at the college!
Spring Break next week … what about you?
Sterling's touch again abandoned him - he seems nervous.
Ours is the following week - March 17-21.
US go very close… deflected over!
US's shirts looking a lot like England's old ones
Tom's is next week! I thought all the SUNY schools would be the same
Fellaini has scored for Belgium against Ivory Coast.
Gotze has scored for Germany against Chile.
How are the US looking?
Gerrard with a corner. Wasted.
Agger has hacked down Wilshere - 50/50 challenge but Wilshere has pulled up.
I don't know how Smalling is starting for England
He's been hopeless!
Wilshire down hurt. Looks like it is the top of his foot!
He kicked the bottom of the Aggers cleat
Apparently not good in the first half. They have had chances in the second
Still one down
Adam Lallana is being prepared just in case Jack can't continue. Stretcher coming on.
Well - Gooner will not be happy to see this image of Jack Wilshere coming off early doors.
Looks like he is walking off
Will he stay
Luanna warming up
Wilshere is walking off under his own steam - could be a metatarsal.
have you got Martin Tyler on your link
Surprised to see Cashley starting. I thought it would be Shaw or Baines
Gerrard hacked down.. I don't care there were covering defenders.. that was a goal scoring chance
Free kick chance… USELESS BY ROONEY!!!
Oh - Rooney rounded Kasper there but then his shot was all over the shop. A chance!
I agree with you about Cashley - I'd have Baines in the first team and Shaw as his understudy. Cashley is old news.
Good run by Roon.. rounds the keep but fails to get it in target
Baines loves to attack and he is good at it.. I might even put him in the left midfield
Decent effort by Cahill
Cahill had a chance then but blasted well over.
Half way through the first half - England have been dominant but have had relatively few chances. I'd like to see Roon push up further.
Henderson's playing that wide left role tonight and Woy seems to like Milner in that role too, but I agree - Baines could certainly push forward and his delivery is better than those two.
Roon with a corner now...collected by Kasper.
Hello Bob and Dave. How is the match at Wemberley?
5 Liverpool starters tonight
Do you remember in the mid 70s, England had an almost entire team full of Liverpool players. (Callaghan, Neal, Clemence, Thompson, McDermott…)
Everyone thought it was a good idea because was just so good in the league
I think it ended nil nil!!
The brass band is sounding good as usual tonight.
I'm not sure it's working tonight either. Maybe we need to naturalize Luis Suarez?
Two nil Ukraine
Timmy makes a great save… but given so much time to get the rebound
US had been pressing for an equalizer
Not good at all - I don't see us getting any results in Brazil this summer. Three and out.
The last time five players started from Pool was '77
Good thing too - they've been rubbish since then.
Still 0-0 at Wemberley. A nice looking yellow and orange ball.
I am predicting three and out for England and the US of A.
Of course, I am using reverse psychology… Usually, I accept the best and get the worst… this year...Vice Versa???
Could've had five United players starting tonight. Smalling, Carrick, Clev, Roon and Welly. What would you think about that?
I have a free evening for the first time in ages, so I will comment on Sol Campbell. It won't be positive.
Hiya, MUR - good to hear from you today. It's been okay but not great from England. Sound pretty dire from the Yanks.
It's a recipe for disaster.
Big Nik nearly snuck in there and Hart was a bit rash off the line.
I was wrong.. England won BUT only by two nil!!
Not since the 2-0 win over Luxembourg in October 1977 - when Ray Clemence, Emlyn Hughes, Ray Kennedy, Terry McDermott and Ian Callaghan all played - have five Liverpool players started for England.
Wonder if I was there
I think we were there for a 9-0 win against Lux
Appreciate it, MUR. Sol has been all the buzz on Five Live.
Fortunately for the Yanks it's just a friendly. Are Putin's troops at the match?
I seem to remember that 9 niller.
Hey MUR… sorry I missed you joining
I don't think it's in Ukraine tonight - a neutral venue, right?
That 9-0 win was a Euro qualifier in 1983. England failed to qualify, finishing runners up to Denmark in that group.
Paul Marinner scored a few and we were behind the goal and there was room to run to the fence after the goals
Oh - Sturridge whipped one over and Roon was only touches away from it.
No probs UWS. Hope you lads are staying warm.
I thought it was earlier that 83
Maybe I went with Stef
It was a great cross from Danny Boy.
If is was in 1983, I wasn't there.
It was a Euro '84 qualifier. My senior year of high school, so Stef would have been a junior.
December 15 1982!
I was definitely there… 8 years later.. I got married on that date!
Unless it was the fall of '82
Where are the ideas?
WOW! hit for nine eight years before 7/7 got married. 9,8, 7 or seven eight nine.
Both teams are looking not have any injuries rather than being innovative.
Agreed, MUR.
The 9-0 win was two days before my 17th birthday, so it was my senior year
Just watched the match… Luther Blisset scored a hat-trick… almost missed some open goals!
Mark Chamberlin scored… The Ox's dad
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abBGQgAA7bE
Interesting. I don't even remember Luther playing for England.
Useless effort by Roon.
I think he won around three or four caps. Was it just before he joined AC Milan?
Oh - great break by Denmark and they should have scored. Somehow scrambled away.
Dunno - I do know that he inspired an Italian anarchist movement while in Serie A. One of the strangest football related stories around.
I stayed in England for one more year after high school… glad I did because my dad died the following summer. I know I went to games with Stef and others.
Oh - useless from Roon. Where does he think he's playing?
Spain vs Italy is on ESPN 2 after the US match
Only 10 to go
Poulson took one touch too many otherwise he might have scored.
Some finals:
Cyprus 0 Norn Ireland 0
Bosnia 0 Egypt 2
Colombia 1 Tunisia 1
A few surprises
Did you know that England beat Turkey 8-0 away in a WCQ in 1984 AND beat Turkey 8-0 at home in a ECQ in 1987!
You're a fund of England trivia today, UWS!
HOW DID THAT NOT GO IN!!
STERLING HITS THE POST
How was that not a goal!?
Austria one up vs Uruguay
Germany one up vs Chile at the half
Belgium one up vs Ivory Coast at the half
Jocks drawing 0-0 at Warsaw
R of Ireland one up vs Serbia
Wales 1 Iceland 1
The Aussies three up vs Ecuador
France one up vs the Dutch
Dempsey causes handbags
Well - we're not going to beat anyone with this kind of form, gentleman.
It went thru Sterling's legs!
In the end, Sterling didn't get a touch on that Cashley cross.
Sterling should have scored there, but hit the inside of the post. Nice pass from Cashley. Sterling will be on the plane to Brazil
Strurridge almost in… nice save
I'm off home, gents - I'll try to join you for the second half.
Kasper lets a cross go through his ands and out for a corner . Kasper does well to block a close range effort from Sturridge,
Have a nice trip home. Stay warm.
Half time
Sigh
It's 0-0 at the half. Each side came close to scoring.
Alvaro Perreira has tied it up for Uruguay in Vienna.
Ukraine have defeated the U.S. 2-0.
US lose 2-0 in Cyprus to Ukraine
Now for one of England's opponents this summer
Italy take on Spain
Now I'm watching England beat World Champs Argentina in 1980… I was there!
France two up vs the Dutch at the half. Blaise Matuidi with the second goal.
Belgium go to up vs the Ivory Coast
England coming out of the tunnel for the second half… looks like Luke Shaw is coming on.. congrats Luke
I missed that one ,but it was an excellent match. Too bad England can't do that when it really matters
Some lady singing a tribute to Aragones
Of course, all the red seats are shown on the telly!
Hair Bear with Belgium's first goal. Why can't he do it for United?
Luke Shaw on for Cashley. A great chance to see if the Sotton youngster can do it at this level.
Kasper Kusk on for Erik Larsen. the second half is underway
Cahill cuts out a cross for a Dane corner.
Hart punches away the corner. Is it Hart?
Where is Cristian Eriksen of Spurs? He must be a first choice for Denmark
The New Wemberley seems to have been built by public school architects.
Sam Vokes has given Wales a 2-1 lead vs Iceland . Bob will not be pleased.
Why can't teams go out and entertain in friendlies!!!
Why be so pathetic!!
Italy hit the post
Spain playing at home.. Spain wearing Stoke's away kit!!!
Djordevic has given Serbia a 1-2 lead in Dublin.
A surprise by Spain. They must be try to sell some jerseys to earn extra cash.
Agreed about friendlies. Some pretty dire stuff at Wemberley.
I am just watching Youtube vids of old England matches… they just qualified for the 82 World Cup beating Hungary 1-0
Luke Shaw has a cross cut out for a corner.
The match that lead to the end Steve Coppell's career.
Denmark lost at home 4-0 to Armenia… COME ON ENGLAND!!!
The only good thing about this match is that Bob can watch and stay warm.
Agger fouls Roon about a yard outside the box.
Agger brings down Roon… another free kick chance for England… Roon's last effort was hopeless
Lallana replacing Wilshere
Another saint is on as Adam Lallana is on for Young Jack
Roon hits the wall… another hopeless effort
Into the wall by Roon then Stevie G has a shot blocked for a corner.
Roon off for Welbeck
How is Danny still in England's plans.. he never plays for United
Useless for Pathetic as Wellie is on for Roon.
The corner from Stevie G was easily headed away
Nice turn by Lallana.. weak cross
Lallana tamely at Kasper off a pass from Saint teammate, Luke Shaw.
I was thinking the same about Wellie. How is he still one of Woy's Boys.
Nikki Zimling for Casper Sloth And Andreas Bjelland on for Simon Kjaer. Morten Rasmussen on for Hair Bun Boy, who was lucky if he even got a touch tonight.
Useless cross by Wellie.
The same again by wellie
Morten Rasmussen booked for a foul from behind a minute after coming off the bench
Great block by Hart off a horrible England back pass.
Hart saves England
Lallana fouls Poulsen in midfield after some pathetic so called England passing
I wonder if Bob got bored with the England match and is bobsledding.
Great save by Kasper. That's more like it.
Still watching old England matches
It was Wellie with the effort . His first shot on goal in months.
I don't blame you. This match is really horrible.
Scott Brown has put the jocks one up in Poland late in the second half.
Monkey has given the Welsh a 3-1 lead over Iceland
Ecuador were trailing the Aussies 3-0 at the half, but now trail the ten man Aussies 3-2.
Skippy has put Portugal one up vs Cameroon.
Drogs has scored for Ivory Coast as they trail Belgium 2-1.
Uruguay have drawn 1-1 in Vienna while it has finished Desmond between the Swiss and Croats.
Great run down the left by Lallana as he has a cross cut for a corner that is taken short and Kasper tips over a shot from Sturridge.
See that the French are beating the Dutch
Kasper looking good out there.. he'll be in the Prem next season with the Foxes
The next corner from Stevie G is headed out for another then the next one is cleared.
The Ox is on for Henderson. Great move.
The last time I checked the French were two up. Unless Kasper moves, he will be a Prem player
The Jocks have won 0-1 in Warsaw.
Cameroon have tied it up in Lisbon.
Cameroon have tied it up in Lisbon.
Wales have defeated Iceland 3-1.
Valencia has tied it up for Ecuador, who were three down to the Aussies at the half.
Germany have defeated Chile 1-0
GOAL !!! STURRIDGE HEADS ENGLAND INTO THE LEAD OFF A NICE CROSS FROM LALLANA.
It was a lovely short corner from Lallana to Sterling. Lallana got it back, dummied the Danish right back, then put in a lovely cross for Sturridge to head home.
England scores!!
Sturridge with the goal.. I missed it
I was England v Hungary
Nice cross by Lallana nice header by Stur!
Liverpool players can play all the 90.. they don't play until they visit Old Trafford on 3/16
BTW, that's the day I will be on Manhattan at Matt's game
The Serbs have won 1-2 in Dublin.
Glad you will be able to watch Matt, but you must be disappointed at missing United vs Pool
NOT THIS SEASON!!!
In Second half stoppage time as Ivory Coast have come from two to make it Desmons in Brussels. Former Leeds player, Gradel, has tied it up.
Good point, UWS. Did you see tha short corners work. Just ask Lallana and Sturridge.
Stunning
It has finished Desmond between Belgium and the Ivory Coast
Something for England to try on a regular basis?
Just as I say all the Liverpool players could play the whole game… two go off
Luxembourg were held 0-0 by the Cape Verde Islands. A shame that we missed that one!
They played all but a couple of minutes. Pretty close to the full 90.
Into stoppage time as Woy's Boyz are holding on to a 1-0 lead.
Glen Johnson called for a foul. Looked a fair tackle.
The free kick from the Danish skipper was curled just wide.
It's over and it's 1-0 to Woy's Boyz.
England have won 1-0… very poor!
Take care MUR
Apparently Bob got lost going home!
