Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

The teams out on the distinctly dodgy pitch in Cuiaba:
AUSTRALIA: Ryan, Franjic, Davidson, Jedinak, Wilkinson, Spiranovic, Oar, Milligan, Cahill, Bresciano, Leckie. SUBS: Wright, Taggart, Halloran, Langerak, Bozanic, Troisi, Holland, McKay, Galekovic, McGowan, Vidosic, Luongo

Referee: Noumandiez Doue (Ivory Coast)
I am delighted to join you for the final match of this triple header.
Cheers, mate - it's been a great day!
They're off from Cuiaba.
I am here after din dins just after kick off
What did the commentator mean about on Americans have bought more tickets than Australia… that makes no sense
Daniel Mann and Kasey Keller are the commentators tonight.
Welcome back, mate.
The Red Card two points are still up for grabs here, as MUR picked Crystal Palace's Aussie skipper Jedinak and Red Devil FCK1 picked Gary Medel.
Lets have some goals
At Gooner Central. Just dropped Dad back off at his place.
I agree - release the hounds!
The first goal of the tourney went to no one… right?
Who is there?
I'm curious to see if Chile will still be the no-holds barred most offensive team in the filed this time around.
So far they are pressing Australia hard, but have no opportunities. Conversely, they have already opened themselves up a few times.
No - I know it's controversial but I'm giving Red Devil FCK1 two points for picking Marcelo.
It's me, Gooner and MUR here in Gooner's living room. We've been planted here since 11am. Lovely jubbly.
Welcome, Red Devil. It looks to me like this one is going to be an open affair with lots of chances. I hope so, anyway.
Are you really!!!
In my mind, guys like Marcelo, David Luiz or Spain's Sergio Ramos are always a good bet to score, either for or against their teams.
Agreed, Red Devil. What did you make of the Holland v. Spain?
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
GOAL! Sanchez opens up the scoring for Chile!
ONE NIL!!!
CHILE TAKES THE LEAD!!
Sanchez opens his account
Total chaos in the Oz backfour and it was a matter of time before someone picked their spot. I suspect that young Maty Ryan is going to be picking the ball out of the back of the net quite a bit tonight.
Actually, I have no idea how that one went. I was dual baby-sitting and cleaning dishes and hanging laundry, etc. I'll have to catch up on a later date.
TWO NIL!
Great finish!!!
CHH-CHH-CHHH- CHILE!!!
These take on the Spanish next!!!!
GOAL! It's 2-0 Chile in the 13th minute!
Are you doing a wee dance in Tuscany, Red Devil?
Spain are going to be way behind on goal difference!!!
Del Bosque must be having a throbbing headache right about now. Holy moley!
Well, at least they won't be bottom of the group, if this keeps up.
I think Austrialia is quite a textbook team, plus in the Asia group they don't face a lot of unorthodox offense (except when it's really bad, like playing against Macao). Chile is highly variable and borderline crazy, and this is giving them fits.
Every attack looks dangerous right now.
As a lifelong suffering Chilean, I must confess that there is no team one would rather be behind against. Chile are the masters of self-destruction. However, I am not convinced that Australia have the quality to get Chile flustered.
I am so happy not having to listen to those damn Vuvuzelas
I think you're safe with this one, mate. No stomach aches tonight.
This goal line technology crap is ridiculous
I agree. Apparently, Budweiser have had the bright idea of marketing a can that can be used as a vuvuzela after its use. Should be banned.
Chile are two up thanks to goals by Sanchez and Valdivia.
Yeah - you would think that if it hits the bloody back of the net, it's clearly a goal, no?
Oh - that was poor from Tommy Oar.
Agreed… use it for Lamps shot!!!!!
shhh…not Hurst
Useless volley by Tommy Oar.
Vidal winds one up but shanks it well wide.
MUR's pick Jedinak is inching ever closer to a yellow card.
Bob, what do you think of the goalkeeper/sweeper? It's like having you back there. Of course it's very risky.
Chile seem to have gone into siesta mode for about ten minutes or so. I reckon they should try to run up a score.
I reckon that Maty Ryan has about as much experience as I have between the sticks. He's well out of his depth.
man, after that sweet move he should have shot.
It's basically turned to a training ground routine as Chile win another corner.
What worries me is that Spain beat Chile and then crush Australia… meaning that there is a winner take between Holland and Chile
Bob, I was referring to the Chilean goalie who is playing like an 11th field player (they almost lobbed it back over his head 5 minutes ago).
GOAL!!!
CAHILL WITH A CLASSIC HEADER
Game on
GOAL! Where did that come from? Cahill with a wonder goal!
Medel as your central defender is never a good option. Good identification of that by Australia.
Sorry, Red Devil. Classic Tim Cahill headed goal there, which we've seen many, many times over the years for Everton.
YESS Cahill heads one in for the Aussies. Game on.
Cahill has more World Cup goals than Rooney, Messi and Ronaldo combined!!!!!
Well, perhaps that will wake Chile up from their slumbers.
THIS is the Chile I know best.
Struth.. that could have done DESMOND
Oh - Cahill was in there again. Chile rocking a bit now.
Bravo saves from Cahill off a pass from Leckie.
Bad touch or Chile couldn't have been in there
Is it laziness? Chile are clearly the superior side here.
Oh - Isla was in but a poor touch cut the angle down.
Island wins a corner.
This is a game now, end to end stuff.
The corner is cleared.
only one goal in the first game but nine goals and counting in the second two
Still no cards in this one as Jedinak elbows Alexis out of the way. There must have been a FIFA advisory to refs to let things go.
Vidal fouls Davidson just outside the box.
What did you make of Chicharito's performance this morning, mate?
Chile vulnerable in the air but Spain wouldn't attack that
Tim Cahill talks his way into the book - first yellow of the evening.
Cahill in the book after a off the ball clash
WE SAW IT… WE DIDN'T NEED CONFIRMATION!
JUST LIKE THE GOAL LINE TECHNO
Poor free kick from Bresciano was cleared. Cahill talked himself into the book. A minute of stoppage time.
Sanchez wins a free kick off of Jedinak.
Decent free kick routine but they didn't run in the right place
Half time
One from the training pitch for Chile - didn't really come off.
And that's peep, peep. Half time.
Got ITV up and running for the half time stuff
Not as good as BBC cuz of damn commercials
Useless free kick as Chile have a slim 2-1 lead at the half.
Bob, if lack of composure is a laziness of the mind, then yes, the Chileans are lazy.
Nice one because the ESPN half-time crew are wretched. Big Red and a bunch of muppets.
The Chilean muppet that they've got on the panel in the ESPN studio in the States has just said that the scoreline tonight doesn't matter. Rubbish. It might just come down to the number of goals that each side scores against Australia.
Well done by Franjic winning a tackle them playing a one two with Leckie before putting in that great cross for Cahill.
Out for the second half
Away we go
Back on for the second half now.
The second have is underway
Whats for dinner at Gooner Central?
Franjic down after an awkward challenge with Me a.
Boy, this one has really changed since the 15th minute. It's as if Chile are a completely different side.
McGowan coming on for Franjic.
Are you a bit peckish, mate?
Curried shrimp and rice. Would you like some?
Cahill heads wide off a cross from Tommy Oar.
Chile go forward again but too many passes break it up.
Oh - Cahill has it in the net but it's ruled offside.
Definitely offside and probably pushing the defender as well.
correct call, but Chile are living dangerously
Oh - great ball in from Alexis but no taken advantage of.
Nearly Desmond as Cahill had a headed goal disallowed for offside on the break.
The Chilean crowd are still loving it.
UWS must be having a Scooby Snack.
Oh - now it's Breshiano with a great volley that the keeper just about dealt with.
Great save by Bravo from Bresciano on the break.
MUR is inching closer to that 2 points as Jedinak goes into the book for an accumulation of fouls.
Naughty by Jedinakbon Sanchez and booked.
Every Chilean attack that fails seems to trigger an automatic dangerous counter-attack. Makes for a very exciting game.
Gutierrez on for. Vidal.
It is a great game but I hope it's not causing too much agitation.
so close...
Oh - cleared off the line by Wilkinson!
Wilkinson with a last ditch goal line clearance off a short by Vargas. Great pass by Sanch
The first reasonable use of the goal-line technology there.
MUR is begging for Jedinak to stick the foot in.
Artur Vidal is wisely taken off but he's none too happy about it, tossing off his gear and taking out his frustration on some poor unsuspecting water bottles.
Leckie heads over a cross from Davidson.
A little overambitious from Leckie but he's looked decent.
Spike Milligan goes into the book.
Milligan booked for a foul on the break.
Goalscorer Valdivia goes off. Wigan's Beausejour comes on.
And MUR is all brokenhearted as his favorite Mille Jedinak is subbed. The two points have disappeared once again.
Cahill wins a header again - but he nods over this time.
Wigan's Beausejour is on for Valdivia and BUGGER. Haloran is on for Jedinak. That costs me two points.
Cahill heads just over.
Boom Boom. Spike will appreciate that.
The Chilean manager Jorge Sampaoli is none too happy with all of this, fairly bugged-eyed at the moment.
Vargas is offside on the break.
Still a chance for Gary Medel to go off with a straight red - fifteen minutes to go, but he's got to be quick about it.
James Troisi is on for Bresciano.
The Chilean fans are happy but they really needed a better score than this one. I could see them getting a draw out of Spain but no more. It may well come down to goal difference in this group.
Somehow Jedinak is still on the pitch and MUR is a happy chappy about it.
Not quite sure what Alexis had in mind there.
Aranguiz goes into the book and isn't too happy about it.
Aranguiz booked for a late challenge.
Chile are throwing another forward on - Pinallas for Vargas.
Pinilla is on. For Vargas.
Four minutes of stoppage time.
Not sure the Aussies have it in them and Chile are shutting up shop now, happy for the win.
Four minutes of stoppage time.
Pinilla is utter rubbish.
GOAL! Beausejour seals it.
3-1 Chile!
Goal 3-1. Lovely strike from Beasejour after a great save from Ryan.
Ok, it's 2 am local time here in Italy, so I'm off to bed. Hope to chat some more tomorrow!
Full-time - in the end it's a win but is it enough?
Sleep well, Red Devil - a good win for your lot tonight.
If there is anything heartening for Spanish fans tonight, it's how the Aussies were able to get after Chile.
Good night Red Devil. It's good night from me and good night from him.
That 3-1 win flattered Chile.
It was great chatting. Cheers mate.
Agreed, MUR. It's a win but not a completely convincing one.
A great first full day of blogging, lads. I'm looking forward to more of the same tomorrow.
