Switzerland v. England Live!
Good afternoon, chaps! I'm about to head into a tedious meeting in a moment but I'll be raring to go around 2:45pm EST as England start their Euro '16 with a bang away to Switzerland. In a group that includes Slovenia, Estonia, Lithuania and San Marino, this is the toughest fixture of the qualifying round. Make no mistake - this new Switzerland are no mugs. I'd take a draw before kick-off and I'm almost sure that Woy would, too. Join me this afternoon for all the important action here on the LOB.

Good afternoon Bob. It is definitely a tough start for England. A draw would be a great result, considering that the top two from each group automatically qualify.
Afternoon, MUR - great to have you on board. I'm not at all confident about England's chances this afternoon. Sturridge's injury just adds to Woy's woes.
Here are the teams now lining up in the tunnel in Basel:
Switzerland: Sommer, Lichtsteiner, von Bergen, Djourou, Rodriguez, Behrami, Inler, Xhaka, Shaqiri, Seferovic, Mehmedi.
Subs: Hitz, Benito, Senderos, Widmer, Frei, Stocker, Dzemaili, Fernandes, Kasami, Drmic, Schar, Burki.
England: Hart, Stones, Cahill, Jones, Baines, Wilshere, Henderson, Delph, Sterling, Welbeck, Rooney.
Subs: Forster, Rose, Jagielka, Chambers, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Townsend, Lambert.
Referee: Cuneyt Cakir (Turkey).
As expected, it's the new Arsenal man Danny Welbeck partnering his old partner Wayne Rooney, who is again the skipper on the night. Also room for Raheem Sterling, who was electric off the bench against Norway the other night. We'll need him to be at his best.
And - bloody hell - it's a night for the LUFC Academy with Jamie Milner on the bench and Fab Delph making his debut in the first team (gulp!)
Roon looks determined. We need some goals from him tonight, for sure.
England get us underway in Basel. Come on, you Whites!
Not an inspiring start, with some useless passing along the backline followed by an errant pass by Gary Cahill out of touch.
Oh - Fab Delph was onto a loose ball there but couldn't find Roon. Shame.
In an earlier kick-off, Russia have rolled over Liechtenstein 4-0. Take that, you tax cheat haven!
Shaquiri gets a cross off but Hart is well behind it.
Delph gets a bollocking for a late one on Shaquiri as he got that cross off. Boos from the partisan home crowd.
Nice bit of pace from England...that is, until Jack Wilshere gets on the ball.
Delph again...he's going to see yellow this time. The kid needs to calm down or he's going to have an early bath on his debut. Crikey!
Some quick goals in Austria - it's 1-1 between Austria and Sweden in a right old ding dong in Group G.
Oh dear - Sterling had a great chance there to run but he picked out his skipper who has a tame effort on goal.
Lithuania are top of the group now with a 0-1 lead in San Marino.
Oh - that's a bit dicey. Seferovic goes down under Phil Jones' challenge. You've seen them given.
The Swiss starting to get a bit more fluid. This is a wide open match.
I want to see Baines get around the back and ping crosses over as he does for Everton.
Tim Cahill has put the Oz 0-1 up in Saudi Arabia.
Hello Bob. I will be around for a few minutes before my last class starts. I'm surprised to see Delph starting in such a vital match. I guess his time at the LUFC Academy paid off.
The Swiss controlling the match now.
Hiya, David. Hope your classes are going well.
Spain are two up vs Macedonia.
Indeed, they are. Alcacer and Ramos with the goals there.
Yes. Thanks for asking. it's still early in the year so I'm kind of busy. I'm in the last few minutes of my conference period. How are your classes?
The Socceroos are 0-2 up now. Jedinak with the second.
Me too; I'm hoping that things will calm down after these first few weeks.
England fans making themselves heard.
Slovakia are one up in the land that Russia invaded.
Oh - first time that Baines got free. The cross over was too hard for Roon to turn goalward.
Roon heads wide off a cross from, Baines , but it was always going to be difficult to score from that angle.
Oh - great move from England, with Stones feeding Welbeck, who just missed out Sterling with the cross. Shame. We had a man over.
BLOODY HELL! A a rare England attack as Wellie broke free down the right . All he had to do was pass it to a wide open Sterling and England would have been ahead. He passed several yards behind.
The Gooners can deal with him now.
I feel sorry for Gooner, who now has the unwanted task of having Wellie in his side.
Rodriguez wins a corner off of Stones.
Rodriguez wins a corner for the Swiss.
Lichsteiner shoots over from long range after a corner from Rodriguez was headed out.
Oh - great save by Hart from Seferovic with his legs. Could easily been 1-0 Swiss.
OH! Great kick save by Hart from Steferovic as he got behind the England defense.Wellie heads away the corner from Shaquiri
Macedonia pull one back in Spain.
Shaquiri is proving a handful for the England backline.
Those two will be the favorites in Group C, for sure.
I need to get ready for my final class. It was great chatting with you. I f you're not around tomorrow then I look forward to chatting with you this weekend.
Cheers mate!
Should be in and out tomorrow, mate. Looking forward to the weekend, which starts with a bang with LUFC at 7:15 and Arsenal v. Citeh at 7:45.
Cheerio, mate!
Five minutes left in the first half, punctuated with good goalscoring chances for both sides. Should probably be 1-1. We'd take that scoreline.
Fab Delph has settled down since that booking but I'd still have him off at half-time or soon after to be sure. the Ox would be my choice.
Oh - Rooney with a decent turn and shot that Sommer spooned away unconvincingly. Should have been someone running in there.
Oh - Jones might have scored from a free header from the corner. Sommer saved well there.
Lithuania are 0-2 up in San Marino now.
That's half-time. On the balance, England might have gone in 1-2 up. Decent outing so far from England, certainly an improvement over Norway. More of the same, lads.
Spain now 3-1 up at the half.
Switzerland get us underway in the second half. I'll be around for about ten minutes of this one.
Wilshere pulls the trigger and earns a corner for England early doors. Roon takes....
No changes yet for either side.
Oh - Xhaka fed Rodriguez who shanked his shot well high.
Keep it tight, lads.
Oh - Sterling needed to do better with that great cross over. Berahmi nearly scored an o.g.
Oh - Sterling nearly got away from Behrami but his touch lost him.
I'm off, lads. Come on, England!
6-pt game here. Victory away against the toughest team in the group. England is in even better shape than they were before the tie (meaning, the group ain't too tough). Should build some confidence and momentum.
way hay... two nil!!!
Qualified after one match!
The Gunners prolific new striker with a brace

Unbelievable! I should bail out on an England performance more often, clearly. When I left, it looked to be dwindling away to a 0-0. But 0-2 - that virtually puts us through after one match. Marvelous!
I agree. England are all but through. England should win their remaining matches unless they find a way to lose. A great away performance for once.
