Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

MLS 20 - Week 3 Update

The third weekend of the MLS season had loads of firsts, starting with the inaugural match for the new look Red Bulls at their new Avaya Stadium, which saw them prevail 2-0 over DC United with goals from Bradley Wright Phillips and former LUFC loanee Lloyd Sam.

It was a low scoring weekend with a lot of draws. I was happy to see my beloved NE Revolution gaining its first point of the season with a 0-0 draw in our home opener to Montreal. We often have a stuttering start with away matches before it's warm enough to host a match at Foxboro.

On the West Coast, FC Dallas are the hottest team in the league, notching their third win over the weekend away to Philly Union. Just behind them, San Jose claimed its second win of the season at home to Chicago Fire, who have nil point after three matches. Ouch!

Let's hear how the season has started for your side and what you watched over the weekend. Cheers!

We never had a look-in at NY. I have to say that the same failings that we had last year, namely, no-one who is able to put it in the net are the ones we suffer with this year. Not that he's a solution, but we hear that EJ may be out long-term with concussion syndrome, which for DCU, generally means he's not likely ever to suit up for us again. Silva seems weeks away, and Espindola has 4 more matches to serve in his suspension, which puts the scoring onus on Arietta and Pontius who don't look up to the task of trading goals ever week.

Chris Rolfe will chip in from time to time because he's an honest tryer. But Nick Deleon has not progressed on since his second season. And the remaining Arnaud, and Kitchen are so defensive and have such little free kick presence, it's hard to see where the goals come from there. Defensively, it's worrying to see Boswell look so out of sorts the young Birnbaum who has such potential has to keep saving his bacon.

I hope our early form means that playing our main rival away was just our fate for unfortunate scheduling.

Must do better should be our new motto.
