Now, Where Were We?
It seems like ages since the last ball was kicked in anger in the Premiership. Now that we've had a two week break to see inevitable future Knight of the Realm Sir Wayne Rooney notch his half ton, we had get back to the good stuff. And it is good this morning. First up, what will Chelski do to get back on track. They've got a tough one this morning at Goodison against the Toffees. That's followed by the 3pm GMT kickoffs including Arsenal's least favorite fixture - against Stoke - and highflying Leicester against Swansea. At the end of the day - what better than United v. Liverpool, the old rivalry rekindled.
Join me for all the love this morning here on the LOB.

First up, we're at Goodison Park. This fixture was one of the matches of the season last year, a real old ding dong that ended up with a Chelski win 3-6. Same again, chaps!
The team news out of Merseyside this morning:
Everton: Howard, Coleman, Stones, Jagielka, Galloway, McCarthy, Barry, Besic, Barkley, Kone, Lukaku.
Subs: Robles, Mirallas, Lennon, Naismith, Deulofeu, Osman, Funes Mori.
Chelsea: Begovic, Ivanovic, Zouma, Terry, Azpilicueta, Mikel, Matic, Pedro, Fabregas, Hazard, Costa.
Subs: Falcao, Kenedy, Remy, Willian, Cahill, Blackman, Loftus-Cheek.
Referee: Andre Marriner (W Midlands).
Kyle Martino is mentioning that Cesc Fabregas had six assists at this time last season and has yet to produce one this year. There are poor starts throughout the side but that one seems key. Where's Cesc been this season?
Good morning , Bob. I'm up early to join you for this one. It should be an interesting contest.
Morning, MUR - hope you've had a good week.
Teams in the tunnel. Jose walks through and gives John Stones - the one who got away - a pat on the shoulder.
And now we get the strains of the Z Cars theme - luv it!
It was a pretty busy week. How was your week?
The same - even though it was a four-day week - maybe BECAUSE it was a four day week, it seemed longer and with more things compressed into it. But I got some good stuff done.
The Reading Railroad steamrolled Ipswich 5-1 yesterday , making them look more like Ipshits . I'm sure you will be hoping Leeds do something similar at Portman Road on Tuesday
That is great to hear. I think I did too, but I have a few things left to do because progress reports need to be exported by 11 AM Monday. A few tests remain to be graded.
They're off from SB .
It's been Chelski's worst start in 20 years - it'll be fascinating to see if they can turn that around this afternoon. Diego Costa with an early battle with John Stones there.
Great tackle by John Stones on Diego Cost A Lot, making the anger issue boy look like a pile of gall stones.
Everton win the first corner after a lovely ball from Galloway down the left to Besic.
Besic wins a corner off of Zouma as he was fed by Breandan Galloway
Besic is down needing treatment after that heavy challenge from Zouma.
Now Besic is down injured. That would be a huge loss for Roberto and Someone.
Begovic picks the cross out under pressure from The Chunk.
Barkley has a cross deflected to Begovic off the short corner and had a chunk taken out of him as he gathered the cross.
What did you think of that result from yesterday?
Bgovic is back on.
Besic is able to continue for now.
Coleman went on quite a solo run that had quite a bit of mustard , but was gassed out at the end of the run.
Now he is down again as he has what appears to be a thigh strain
Good pressure from the Toffees, ends up with Barkley firing wide. Besic is down again - may have to come off.
A surprisingly attacking switch as Naismith is on for Besic
Stephen Naismith to come on for the Bosnian.
A bad week for Besic. he was sent off against Andorra on Sunday for throwing something at a player. An Andorran player was sent off at the same time.
Good opening to this one - Roberto and Jose are setting things up in an attacking manner.
Chjel;sea win a corner off of Galloway
Bloody hell - how can you let a match against tiny Andorra get under your skin?!
James McCarthy , the first man, heads away the corner from Pedro then Zouma lashes an effort wide.
Oh - Naismith just couldn't get to that cross from McCarthy.
It was an ill tempered period where there was a ten man skirmish and Besic threw something at a player off the ball, but the Northern Irish ref was right on the spot and no hesitation in sending him off. I completely agree with you.
Naismith and Ivanovic should have a fun afternoon together.
Chgeeky by Naismith as he lashes the ball against Ivanovic after the ball had gone out of play. Lovely!
The Chelski fans strike up the Beach Boys for the first time this afternoon.
Great tackle by Jags on Coast A lot after a lovely slide rule pass.
What Beach Boy song would describe Chelsea's start?
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
NAISNMITH HEADS THE TOFFEES INTO THE LEAD.
GOAL! A great header by Naismith after a lovely move with Galloway on the left. Well deserved!
1-0!
It was a great possession by the Toffees and Naismith found young Galloway down the left and his excellent cross was headed in by Naismith.
Now then - how will Chelski respond to that?
Did you hear about the match played yesterday?
Oh - Kone nearly made it two-nil there with a lovely header off McCarthy's cross. Great save by Begovic.
Begovic again saves Chelski!
OH!!! What a save by Begovic as he to fling full lenngth to piush away an excellent header by Kone off a cross by Coleman then then Bosnian/Canuck does well to save a long range effort from McCArthy
I did - Reading have had a good start to the season but that's got to be their best performance yet. Ipswich are still favorites for at least the playoffs.
GOAL! Naismith makes it 2-0!!!!!!!!!!!!
WAY HAY!!!NAISMITH AT THE DOUBLE AS HE PUTS THE TOFFEES TWO UP.
The Toffees are running riot against the champions here. Another great team move through Kone and The Chunk. Barkley fed Naismith who fired home low into the right corner.
It all started with Costa conceding a stupid free kick that was taken near the Everton corner flag , then the Chunk and McCArthy passed to Naismith , who scored with a well placed long range effort.
Which way back for the Blues now?
I heard that Jose leads by three furlongs in the sack race. Your thoughts?
Someone must be on cloud nine
Did you notice that both goals started with Costa losing possession? Love it!
Azpi has a shot deflect off of Stones for a corner. Now a shot comes off of Barbara Barry for a corner. Now the Toffees break
Oh - quick break by Everton leads to The Chunk missing out on a chance. Should have hit it first time.
The ball to the Chunk was just off , but the Toffees still got a shot off.
I can't see Roman Abramovic getting rid at this point. After all, he did win the title for Chelski last season. Chelski would have to be seriously relegation threatened in order for that to happen.
The Toffees are showing Pedro what the Prem is all about. It will be a culture shock for him
Needless to say, none of the PPPers picked Jose to win the Sack Race.
Needless to say, none of the PPPers picked Jose to win the Sack Race.
That could be , but surely , Jose is feeling the heat
Oh - Pedro nearly got through there but Stones again did well to cover. He's had an excellent game so far.
Great tackle by Stones on Pedro to illustrate my point and he seems determined to show Chelsea what they missed out on.
Back to that match yesterday. I hope you were doing scouting duty against you r opponents on Tuesday. Steve Clarke's talented side look more likely to win promotion than Ipshits, who have played more like Mickey takers this season.
Ivanovic wins a corner off of Naismith
Kone heads away the corner.
Costa tries one but Timmy snuffs it out.
That cross was costly as Cost A Lot crossed straight to Timmy.
It's 0-0 at the half between Evil QPR an Forest.
I'm surprised Jose has started Obi Wan ahead of Matic. Star Wars Day isn't till May 4th!
GOAL! Matic fires Chelski back into this one - great strike!
GOAL !!!! A SPECTACULAR LONG RANGE EFFORT FROM MATIC IN THE FAR CORNER.
Everton stepped off the Serbian and - wallop - Timmy was easily beaten by that left-footed drive.
2-1!
Well, we're a third of the way to the goals tally from last season. We want more goals!
Desmond nearly got in the stadium as Hazard had a shot take a wicked deflection for a corner.
Now it's Hazard going close - Chelski going for it now.
Oh - now it's JT latching on to a lovely chipped cross by Hazard. This one is far from over.
Another Chelsea corner.Taken short to Hazard and his lobbed pass is headed inches over by JT
Former Toffee, Kevin Kilbane , is not pleased that Chelsea are back in this match.
I guess the question about Matic is answered. Why would Jose play start both Matic and Obi Wan?
Matic has a shot come off of Barry for a corner.
Kone heads away the corner.
Both teams should be called the Toffees because they have a soft centre. BOOM BOOM!
Stones does well to block a shot from Cost a lot that resutls in a corner then Jags heads out for another. Hazard has a shot go off of Ivanovic and out for a goal kick
Chelski have had plenty of chances in this second half and as this half winds down, they'll be firing it up in the dressing room.
Looking at the replay, It appears that Obi Wan will get credit for the assist, albeit from a two yard pass. Yet, Fab has yet to record one this season. Quite ironic!
Two minutes of stoppage time/.
Will Obi Wan be sacrificed for a more attacking option in the second half?
Coleman heads wide from a cross from Naismith
Hey Boys
Sorry I haven't been around!
I have been up and about for this first half but not been at the computer
What a shame for Chelsea getting that goal... they were really on the ropes.
As for me, I may be or may not be around for the duration of the day. I may be going to see a match Tom is assistant coaching in
Ht
It's 2-1 at the end of a breathtaking first half to the Toffees.
That's half-time - Chelski still up against it at the interval. 2-1.
Good morning UWS. Sorry you will be missing the biggie late on, but this seems like quite an opportunity
Roberto Martinez will be happy to talk to his troops too, Everton having gone off the boil dramatically towards the end of that half. But he’ll be happy enough. This is finely poised, and the second half promises to be a blast.
Arlo interviews Lee and Le Saux ahead of one o the biggest grudge matches of the year. After a poor start by Sergio Romero, United could receive a great boost as David De Gea could start Against Liverpool.
Morning, UWS - great to have you back around, albeit briefly.
I've just put another guess on the excellent trivia question that Gooner posted in mid-week.
Tim Cahill - 50 goals or more for the Socceroos? What say the rest of you anoraks?
An interesting update North of the Border as the Dons lead Celtic 1-0 at the half. If they win then they overtake Celtic for top of the pops.
Teams back out at Goodison. I do like this new Chelski away kit with the red, white and blue hoops on the sleeves.
Teams back out at Goodison. I do like this new Chelski away kit with the red, white and blue hoops on the sleeves.
I think that is a good choice. I wonder if any of my guesses were correct
I like it too.
Five out of nine is creditable for a tricky trivia question. Could be six. I think you made a great guess.
You were correct on Henri, Drogba, Eto'o and Ronaldo. Not so with Klinsmann, apparently. And I got Robbie Keane. We need four more on that one.
Chelski have started where they left off, pressing their claim and winning corners.
Cost a lot makes sure Chelsea are in double figures in corner as Jags heads away the corner taken by Fab.
I'm here again.... I really don't want Chelsea to fight back and get anything from this one
I just guessed at some " long shots " in the form of Fernando Torres and one your old boys, Mark Viduka.
Coleman wins a corner off a challenge from JT.
Stones heads over the corner from Barkley
New Chelksi signing Kennedy, a Brazilian lad, is replacing Obi Wan I had a feeling that might happen.
Young Kenedy is on for JT in an attacking move that the Doc predicted.
Well in, mate. You really are Nostrabobus.
Welcome back, UWS. I second your emotion!
Barkley tried to beat the entire Chelski team there.
Clumsy by Naismith on the lightweight Pedro.
Did you see that I made two guesses on the trivia question? They're long shots at best.
Oh - The Chunk was played through by Barry but Begovic stood up to his shot. But that should have been a free kick for the backpass.
Lukaku with a chance but saved... was that a back pass by Terry?
OH!!! Barry tackles Zouma and feeds the Chunk, who shoots straight at Begoivc, who then gathers a back pass from JT. Surely, that should have been a free kick. That's no longer in the rule book?
Oh - The Chunk was played through by Barry but Begovic stood up to his shot. But that should have been a free kick for the backpass.
Charlie Austin has given QPR the lead vs Forest.
Half an hour for Jose to pull this one out. Otherwise, you have to think that they're title challenge is over.
Into the side netting by the Chunk. It was always going to be difficult to score from that angle.
I think it already is , in all honesty.
Barkley leads a counter, but he and Kone were on a different wavelength on that final ball/
Barkley goes down too easily in the box. Never a pen.
One end to the other pretty quickly there
Wish my United would do that
Timmy does well to punch away a cross from Azpi for a corner and Galloway is booked for an earlier challenge.
Pedro is called for a foul on Naismith to end the threat from the corner.
I agree, UWS. Perhaps De Gea starting would give United a much needed boost
LUFC Academy boy Aaron Lennon about to come on for his Everton debut.
What will the reception be for Twilight today?
Mativc concedes a Toffees corner, but it looked a foul on Naismith by Ivanovic seconds earlier.
The Chunk pulls another good save out of Begovic.
Begovic pushes away a powerful effort from the Chunk
And one of your Old Trafford favorites Falcao to come on as well.
I think it will be a great reception , given the shaky performances from Romero.
My nickname for him is Good Riddance.
Falcao is on for Pedro, who had a steep learning curve today
On comes Falcao...he better not score... like he did last game against Palace. That was a decent goal too
YIKES!!! Forest have scored two quick goals to go 1-2 up at Loftus Road.
Ivanovic played Costa in there but the striker betrayed his right-sidedness there. He was always trying to get it on to his right peg. Both feet, lad!
Cost A lot took too long to shoot and Jags did well to block from him.
Oh - Chunk was in again but tried one from an acute angle. Should have picked out Kone.
well wide by the Chunk on the break
Not sure if you have commented about this but what are your thoughts about DeGea?
All the contract means is that United can get a nice fee when he goes to Real next summer
A standing ovation for Kone as he's replaced by the eight Beetle, from the LUFC Academy, not Merseyside.
He should start today. He would have saved at least one of the goals last match in Wales
I agree. I'm pleased we have him for the rest of the season, giving LVG ample time to look for a suitable replacement.
Rumors are that Roon is out of today's match because of a hammy
Yes. Definitely. No wonder why LVG says he's worth fifteen pints a season
That doesn't sound very kosher.Who will replace him?
I didn't know LVG drank that much!!!
The Forest goals were a penalty from Henri Lansbury , formerly of the Gunners Academy, and from Nelson Olivera.
Nice One.He likes the MD?
Trying to connect to an SS link and so far it says I can't watch video as a goes. I have to make an account. Well, there goes that viewing
Coleman off and new signing Ramirez on.
Funes Mori , a new signing from River Plate, is on for a Toffees debut as he replaces Coleman Mustard.
Willian has a cross blocked for a corner.
Willian looked REALLY good against the US midweek. Looked fast and dangerous every time he got the ball. I haven't seen him play like that for Chelsea
Aberdeen lead Celtic as they approach stoppage time. That result would move the Dobs ahead of Celtic at the top of the table.
I think the Yanks gave him much more time on the ball than Prem teams do. Are you listening, Jurgen?
I agree, UWS. I think Jose Mourinho holds him back.
GOAL! Naismith snatches his hat-trick!!!!!
HAT-TRICK FOR THE SUBSTITUTE!!!!
Nice finish from a sharp angle
Forest wins at Loftus Road
YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! A HAT-TRICK FOR NAISMIOTH AS HE BEATS BEGOVIC AT THE NEAR POST. THE TOFFEES LEAD 3-1. A GREAT PASS FROM BARKLEY.
Lovely ball through from Barkley and Naismith slid home from a tight angle.
3-1!
What is the second match today on NBCSN?
Palace v Citeh?
Definitely so. Well spotted, UWS. Has a sub ever scored a hat-trick during either spell of Jose's managerial reign?
A tame header from Falcao to Timmy off a cross from Hazard.
The Gunners vs the Potters will be shown on Born in the USA. Not sure what will be on MSNBC
Stones stupidly booked for kicking the ball away. There was no need for that
It's got to be Palace v. Citeh, no?
AZpi is booked for a foul on Lennon as he just discovered what they teach at the LUFC Academy/
Aberdeen have defeated Celtic 2-1 to go top of the SPL table.
I think so, but it doesn't say which match on Dish's guide.
I'm sure the Gooner will be watching the match on Springsteen's channel.
Someone must be ecstatic.
No doubt - Gooner always has a Hungry Heart.
Chelsea's only goal was a speculative effort from a holding middie. That says it all as there are four minutes of stoppage time.
He sure does. Nice way to keep the train of thought going.
Goodison is rocking. This has been a brilliant performance by Everton, and their fans are celebrating accordingly. There will be four added minutes.
Chelsea v Arsenal next weekend
Barkley doing well in the Barclay's Premier League?
That foul on Funes Mori will Cost a Diego a yellow card.
Giroud, Berahino and De Bruyne all start on the bench today
That will be a cracking match. I hear that Gooner smells blood in that match.
It definitely has been. Two more minutes of stoppage now.
Surely Chelsea's title hopes have gone out the window.
Well done Toffees!!
Three losses already this season for Chelsea... lovely jubbley
That's it as the Toffees record a fantastic 3-1 win vs Chelsea as Naismith scored a hat-trick off the bench. Jose storms down the tunnel.
Chelski lose again! They're now 15th, only two points off the relegation zone.
wonder if Jose will say the better team loss like he did against City
