Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

It's currently 1-1 at Carrow Road after a dismal first half for the Canaries who were booed off at the interval. The Chunk opened the scoring on 15 minutes, while Wes Hoolahan equalized right after half-time by bundling the ball over the line.
Shambolic defending by Everton from a corner nearly leads to another goal. Two men are left free at the back post as they resolutely refuse to actually clear the thing, and danger is only averted when Jerome is flagged offside.
A careless pass from Barkley sets Norwich off on a counter, Jerome feeds Hoolahan who has a chance to shoot, but for some reason he tries to square the thing to Tettey, the slight snag being that there were three defenders in the way.
How good is John Stones? Even when he shanks one out, he's still ultra cool about it.
Oh - another break from the home side but Tettey and Redman managed to find extra the wrong ball - back to the keeper.
Kevin Mirallas has replaced Delafou.
Oh - what a sitter! Jerome was teed up in the six yard box and he somehow contrived to loft it over the bar.
Jerome and Norwich will likely rue that miss big time. A win could lift Norwich over Swansea and level with Chelsea.
Barkley is making way now; Darren Gibson on for him.
The fizz seems to have gone out of this one since Jerome's miss. I'm not sure that either side are capable of winning this one.
No other side has conceded more goals than Norwich in the last 15 minutes.
Good morning Bob. It finishes 1-1 as the Canaries earn a hard fought draw that looked unlikely as they were completely outplayed by the Toffees in the first half.
As expected, this one ends 1-1, which elevates Norwich to 14 points, still only a point off the drop zone.
Everton are 6th but level with a load of other sides on 23, so they'll be unlikely to end there at the end of the day.
In the match on BEIN , the Tractor Boys win 0-1 at the Fake Dons thanks to a tenth minute goal by Brett Pittman.
Next, it's Citeh vs the Swans on NBCSN while Palace host the Saints on Born in the USA,
The latest from Citeh vs the Swans is that De Bruyne has been dropped for Citeh while Garry Monk was sacked as Swansea manager on Wednesday. Alan Curtis is in the role as caretaker manager.
There were two Championship matches yesterday. Blackburn defeated Rotherham 1-0 while Wolves drew 1-1 with Forest
The teams are out in the tunnel where the highlight is Joe Hart's ridiculous words of encouragement .
Morning, MUR - great to have you on board. I'm back from some serious dishwashing to enjoy this one.
They're off from the Etihad in close to a downpour.
Next up, now - it's Man Citeh hosting a Swansea who go into this one having sacked Gary Monk yesterday. Both need a good result. Here is the team news:
Man City: Hart, Sagna, Otamendi, Mangala, Clichy, Toure, Fernandinho, Navas, Silva, Sterling, Bony.
Subs: Caballero, Kolarov, Demichelis, Delph, De Bruyne, Iheanacho, Roberts.
Swansea: Fabianski, Rangel, Fernandez, Williams, Taylor, Britton, Cork, Ki, Sigurdsson, Routledge, Ayew.
Subs: Nordfeldt, Naughton, Amat, Grimes, Montero, Barrow, Gomis.
Cheers Bob. Glad to join you.
They're off from a breezy Selhurst Park
Basically , a must win match for Leeds today at Charlton
By kicking off, Citeh are now level with Arsenal on 30 points with equal GD. Swansea are level with Norwich at the bottom of the table.
An early free kick fro Palace , conceded by Van Dijck
Scott Dann could not make contact on the free kick from Cabaye.
Not really. We're playing at Charlton and we're already ahead of schedule. A point would be fine.
Great close range save by HArt from Routledge.
Swansea were in there but Joe Hart stood up to it. I agree with you about Hart's pre-match tunnel talk. It's a highlight of the Men in Blazers show every week.
I just checked Since kickoff , the Canries in the coal mine are out of the drop zone on gd, ahead of the Toon and the Cherries.a point ahead of Fred's lads , and eight ahead of Vanilla soft serve
Do you know Alan Curtis, the new caretaker manager for the Swans? I've never heard of him.
Make that two points ahead of Fred's lads as top scorer , Igahlho , gives the Hornets an early lead at the SOL.
A brilliant start for the visitors at the Stadium of Light as Ighalo slides in at the back post to score for Watford.
Is Fred hiding under the bed?
No, mate .Me either, LOL.
No he is starring outside, looking for a quick escape. There's no escaping a relegation trapdoor. Now looking out the window.
Ighalo and Lukaku are pushing Vardy at the top of the GBB charts. Meanwhile all of our GBB picks (e.g., Aguero, Rooney, Benteke) are down in the dumps. It's been that kind of season.
Bristol City take an early lead at Hudders
Fred can't bear to watch the proceedings, eh?
It's sure been a strange old season.
No, he is not a happy Tom Cat
The top match in the Championship today must surely be the Rams vs the Seagulls. There have already been three final scores in this round of fixtures.
Luton take the lead vs Northants while Cambridge take the lead at Argyle. Who are you rooting for in that one?
The weather looks horrible in Blighty again. It's been beautiful here this week. How about you?
Typically miserable Manchester weather on display.
Yes. We have been having Indian summer for the past ten days, more typical of Spring Break than December.
Hart does well to push away a shot from Siggy.
Siggy pulls a nice saye out Hart. Swansea are the better side so far. Citeh look completely toothless.
The corner from Siggy is cleared.
If Citeh bollix this one up, with Arsenal playing tomorrow and Leicester on Monday, LVG's United could be sitting pretty on top of the pops with a win at Bournemouth.
Agreed. Alan Curtis sure has had an effective pre match chat
They might , but it will probably be temporary but the Cherries are a potential banana skin.
There's always a "win one for the new gaffer" effect.
Morning Boys
Newport County are two up at Notts County while the Orient Express go on top at Jayne Mansfield's house.
I actually fancy Chelsea to end Leicester's brilliant run. It's got to come soon. But Arsenal should win easily against Villa tomorrow.
Morning, UWS - how's your week been?
Good morning, UWS
I'm expecting a draw in the Monday nighter while I expect Gooner and dad to be celebrating victory with some vanilla soft serve,
Stecks does well to tip over a curler from Bolassie headed for the upper 90.
I woke up Kate this morning with that Europe "Final Countdown" GEICO add and she is not pleased.
Alan Curtis stated that he expects to be in charge for this match only. Who is the favorite to succeed Garry Monk.
Sorry mate. I hope a bad start is not representative of the remainder of the day
The Bees take the lead at the Cottage in a West London Derby while Brucey's lads take the lead vs last placed Bolton.
A free kick from Navas had a lot of hang time and was easily headed away
She'll get over it. She's buzzing about doing her Saturday morning routine. But she did refuse to sing MOT with me.
A free kick from Navas had a lot of hang time and was easily headed away
Well done Kate. Sounds like a great day ahead.
Decent effort from Navas - well blocked by Ashley Williams.
I have a busy day ahead with some taxi duty involved. I will be in and out.
GOAL !!! BONI GIVES CITEH THE LEAD , BUT DOES NOT CELEBRATE VS HIS FORMER CLUB.
GOAL! And of course it's that Swansea old boy Bony who heads home Citeh's opener.
Great corner in by Navas and Bony met it with power.
1-0 Citeh!
Boni headed in the resulting corner from that block. He had a free header off the corner from Navas
In the Championship, the only goal so far has come at John Smith's Stadium where Jonathan Kodija has given Bristol City the lead against Hudders.
Bummer about City goal.. Swansea should have been ahead after that early one on one chance
I'm off to take Melanie to concert rehearsal. I'll be back for the start of the second half.
Odion Ighalo is the first Watford player to reach double figures for goals in the Premiership.
Cheerio, mate - we'll see you in a bit.
Oh - Siggy chipped one up perfectly for Ayew but he blew the header over the top.
I just finished adding another thread for the Euro Draw for later
ESPN2 have a 90 min show covering it... I wish they still had the Word Cup... bloody Fox!
I will be watching that draw a lot despite United playing at the same time
As it stands, Watford are sixth in the Premier League. This season is a head-scratcher. And it's playing havoc with our PPP standings.
I'll chip in on that one, too, mate. Are you confident about United's chances against Bournemouth?
Brighton in the lead at Derby
They're the clear favorites now for the Championship title.
Not at all with United
Not good enough
Too many injuries
A team that goes at them
The Seagulls have a United striker playing for them... why isn't Wilson playing for United?
By the way, it was your old boy James Wilson with that goal for Brighton. You could use his goals right about now.
LVG has said....
Louis van Gaal has told Manchester United fans to get real and stop living on past glories.
Bit of argybargy now between Sterling and Williams. The ref sorts it out.
I am not confident of a United win against Shef Utd in the FA Cup
I am not liking that the 3rd Round Draw was on a Monday evening with a Prem game played right after... the draw has almost not been talked about. It was always a highlight of the year when the big boys come in!
Even LOB didn't post any of the draw!
Palace take the lead against Sotton
I didn't even catch it, mate - sorry. It was a busy week. Who did Leeds get?
Pompey have taken a two goal lead against Hartlepool... Jeff's not a happy chappy
Fulham 1 Brentford
Not blaming you...Im blaming the modern day
I know they got a home draw
I'll posted it
Yohann Cabaye scored that one for Palace, who are flying. I think they're up to fifth.
Derby tie it up against Brighton
Derby are a decent side. I could see them getting into the playoffs.
Watford v Newcastle
West Brom v Bristol City
West Ham v Wolves
Salford or Hartlepool v Derby
Exeter v Liverpool
Tottenham v Leicester
Colchester v Charlton
Peterborough v Preston
Northampton v MK Dons
Arsenal v Sunderland
Newport v Blackburn
Ipswich v Portsmouth
Birmingham v Bournemouth
Wycombe v Aston Villa
Sheffield Wednesday v Fulham
Oxford v Swansea
Brentford v Chesterfield or Walsall
Bury v Bradford
MANCHESTER UNITED v Sheffield United
Everton v Dagenham or Whitehawk
Southampton v Crystal Palace
Eastleigh v Bolton
Nottingham Forest v QPR
Carlisle v Yeovil
Chelsea v Leyton Orient or Scunthorpe
Doncaster v Stoke
LEEDS v Rotherham
Cardiff v Grimsby or Shrewsbury
Huddersfield v Reading
Middlesbrough v Burnley
Norwich v Manchester City
Hull v Brighton
(Ties to be played between January 8 and 11, 2016)
Thanks, mate - that's a decent draw for us. And for you lot - you should be able to see off rubbishy Sheffield United no problem.
Over to Selhurst Park at the end of that half. Why are Soton playing in green with a black diagonal stripe? Modern football, eh (sigh)....
Ht
Cambridge on top of Plymouth 1-0 at Home Park
I meant to mention earlier that we enjoyed receiving your card in the mail yesterday - cheers!
Is Vardy's record safe?
Lukaku has scored in 7 straight.. the most for the Toffees since Bob Latchford in 1975
I think you're right, mate. Vardy will drop off or get injured and one of those others could easily match him.
I still think Mourinho was mad to get rid of The Chunk.
Glad you got the test
Thanks for your card too
I have a very annoyed dog jumping on me right now... have to go for Walkies
Off you go, then, mate. Have a good walkies wth Shadow.
Bony upends Ki there. Nasty one.
Still 0-0 at Charlton. I'd take that result. It would move us on to 23 points from 21 matches. Blow up, ref!
I'm back from dropping off two people.I see that Palace have taken the lead vs then Saints.
Othe than the Palace goal, no Prem goals have been scored since I left and that was a while ago.
Hat punches away the swerving free kick from Siggy.
UWS will be delighted that Pompey are two up vs Jeff's lads. That's what I call playing up.
Swansea could still pull out an equalizer here - they've been good today.
Welcome back, mate.
The offside flag is raised as HArt pushes away a cross/shot from Siggy
Cheers mate. It seems like an improved performance from the Swans,
Fred's lads still one down vs elton John's lads. He's not in the mood for listening to Crocodile Rock or even thinking about Philadelphia Freedom.
How about "I'm Still Standing." That could be an inspirational anthem for the Black Cats.
De Bruyne is on for Silva.
BOOM BOOM . His lads will be lucky to be singing that at the end of the season.
An attacking double substitution for the Saints as Pelle is on for Steven Davis and Tadic is on for Yoshida. I'm surprised those two were benched.
Not a Big Club pull one back at Cardiff in an evil fixture. A Cardiff win would suit us as the Not Very Bib Club are just outside the playoff places.
Fred says that he's not in the mood for listening to Canary in a Coal Mine .
I reckon that Sunderland and Villa are already goners.
A long range free kick from Yaya is out for a corner.
Otamendi glances the header wide from the corner.
I would say only Villa . The Black Cats are only two points from safety with over half the season to play. Usually a team from further up the table has a second half slump.
The Bees take take a 1-2 lead at the Cottage in a W London Derby. I attribute the beehive to the mild weather in WNY.
I judge it by the number of points at Christmas. They need to have around 20 to imagine ending up with 40 at the end of the season. At 13, I can't see it happening.
I thought Montero was coming on for Routledge . Instead it's Barrow.
This is an unusual season. There will be about five teams below twenty points. I was using points from the drop zone as a measuring tool. It's very tight with the exception of Villa. and it seems that half of the BPL are possibilities to go down with Villa.
Northants are 3-4 up at Luton. The locals will definitely not want to go to Bedfordshire.
Argyle tie it up vs Cambridge. How do you feel about that one?
Alright by me.
The Seagulls go 1-2 up at the Rams in a promotion six pointer and look set to remain top.
Still 0-0 at the Den. Blow up, ref!
Otamendi heads wide from a corner by De Bruyne,
Gomis on for Andy Ayew.
Boni , who scored vs his former mates, is replaced by Ianacho.
Sorry mate. Do you mean the valley?
Still time for Swansea to level this one - they're still in it.
I did - sorry, mate. A terrible mistake.
Not a Big Club have come from two to make it Desmond at Cardiff in a very evil fixture.
Bugger! Swansea have it in the net but it's called back for a foul by Gomis on Hart. I don't think so. The goal should have stood.
Brave keeping by Hart as he pushes away a pass from Siggy despite the intervening boot of Gomis. Siggy did well to put the rebound in the corner , but a foul was already called.
I agree. That's the problem I have with modern footie. it's a contact sport, but any minimal contact is called a foul. I didn;t see anything wrong with that. I'm sure Alan Curtis did plenty of that in the day
I've lost the computer use gentlemen so I will be missing this afternoon unless I can use toms computer
Maybe I'll be back
Nail biting time for Bob as it's still 0-0 at the Valley.
Hart does well to tip over a looping volley from Gomis
I've just had a message from Swansong (my buddy Doug McCord) who's on a sabbatical year in Colorado this year. He's a loyal Swans fan and would like to see Ryan Giggs in at the Liberty. What would you think of that?
Sorry UWS. You will be missed. Hopefully the match at the Cherries will be an enjoyable United match for a change.
GOAL! Gomis does come good!
1-1!
GOAL !!! SWANS SONG WILL BE DANCING FOR JOY IN COLORADO AS GOMIS TIES IT UP AT THE ETIHAD.
That's great news for you lot and the Arse.
Into four minutes of stoppage time as the Swans thoroughly deserve their equalizer. Gomis did well to get a thorugh ball and blast it past Hart off the underside of the bar.
BUGGER! Yaya sticks in the winner. Big deflection on that shot.
GOAL !!! WHAT A DRAMATIC FINALE AS YAYA PUTS CITEH 2-1 UP
Come on, you Swans!
Mangala tackled Gomis and passed to Sagna. He passed to Yaya, who cut in and had a deflected effort go in the upper 90
Swan Son will not be pleased after he thought his team had earned a hard fought point.
Hart does well to save a volley from Siggy.
Oh - Siggy with a good volley but Hart smothers it. And that's it!
Citeh are top of the pops at least temporarily. I'm off to the shower.
It's over at the etihad and Citeh get a dramatic 2-1 win vs the Swans.
Palace defeat the Saints 1-0 and the Hornets win by the same at the SOL.
Guillermo Varela and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson will be the fullback pairing for United as the youngsters make their first Premier league start. Will the Cherries key on that early on?
The teams are out in the tunnel and United will find out that this like playing on a lower division ground where the capacity is a mere 12,000.
The Pig Stick is out for three matches due to violent conduct. In other words, he is on holiday until December 28th.
They're off from Dean Court
The capacity is 11,000
Varela fouls Josh King , the former United Academy player
The free kick from Junior Stanislaus is headed out for a Cherries corner and
BUGGER !!! THE CHERRIES TAKE THE LEAD.
Bloody hell! I've just got back from the shower with my lunch to see Stanislas swing a corner straight into the goal.
1-0 Cherries! Sorry, chaps.
The Cherries have attacked from the off and it paid off. Junior Stanislaus scored directly from a corner that was aided by the wind and caught out De Gea.
Early doors, mate. Early doors. Now United have a free kick.
Oh - great double save by Boruc to keep the Cherries in the lead!
Adam Smith concedes a free kick to United.OH!!! A superb double save from Boruc. United have a corner. The corner from Blind was a decent one, but missed by two United players and out for a goal kick
This game is buzzing now!
Welcome back mate. Quite right. We've been caught out early on.
Back to the double save. United took it short. Boruc made a reflex save from Hair Bear then saved the follow up header from Carrick that lacked power.
Harry Arter tackles Borthwick-Jackson for a United corner. Cook heads away the corner.
A stupid hand ball by Hair Bear when he was in a great position to shoot.
Stupid foul by Blind on Josh King from about 25 yards out.
The free kick from Stanislas is well over , halfway to Jersey.
I'm off for some more taxi duty. I should be back around halftime. Cheers mate
I'm delighted to see that my boys held out for a hard fought 0-0 draw that puts us on 23 points from 21 matches. We've now got 27 points to get from 25 matches. So we're nearly half way there and it's not Christmas yet. Should be safe.
On a related point, ironically for all his character flaws, Steve Evans has made a more difficult team to beat. We're not having any more of those crazy 2-5 results at Elland Road against the likes of Crewe. And Evans will be fired up to do over his previous employers in the Cup.
Let's hope you lot will be on equal terms by then. Cheers!
Arlo references Naples, Florida as the equivalent of Bournemouth. He must have had his hols there recently.
Oh - Martial was in on goal there but shanked it wide.
Oh - Stansilas was in on goal there, but Twilight did really well to grab the ball from his toes.
Hair Bear has leveled it for United after some persistent work. Boruc had saved from Depay but Hair Bear bundled it in.
1-1!
This one is petering out toward half-time. It'll be interesting to see what changes, if any, the managers make at half time.
This half has raced by. I don't think that United fans can complain that there side hasn't attacked in this one. Without that fluky Stanislas goal early doors, United should be two or three up.
I'm back and glad to see that United have tied it up
It's 1-1 at the half.
The second half is underway from the Vitality Stadium
Welcome back, mate. I posted the EURO 2016 draw on Dave's other thread. Here it is:
Group A France, Romania, Albania, Switzerland.
Group B England, Russia, Wales, Slovakia.
Group C Germany, Ukraine, Poland, Northern Ireland.
Group D Spain, Turkey, Czech Republic, Croatia.
Group E Belgium, Republic of Ireland, Sweden, Italy.
Group F Portugal, Iceland, Austria, Hungary.
Let's hope that United can capitalize on their dominance in the second half.
