Sunday in the Premiership
I can't tell you how good it feels to be back in my chair in the Cottage looking forward to watching a Sunday schedule of Premiership matches with you lot. First up are the champions, still struggling at the bottom of the table, against the over performing Crystal Palace. Then at 11am is the intriguing fixture of Everton v. Spurs. It's raining in Britain but I'm cozy here. Join me, won't you?

Palace fans are "Glad All Over" as their side comes out alongside Chelsea. Here is the team news:
Crystal Palace: Hennessey; Ward, Dann, Delaney, Souare; Lee, Jedinak, McArthur, Puncheon; Zaha; Campbell. Subs: McCarthy, Kelly, Ledley, Mutch, Williams, Sako, Chamakh.
Chelsea: Courtois; Ivanovic, Zouma, Terry, Azpilicueta; Mikel, Fabregas; Willian, Oscar, Hazard; Costa. Subs: Begovic, Baba, Matic, Loftus-Cheek, Ramires, Traore, Pedro.
Referee: Kevin Friend.
We're away at Selhurst Park.
Costa attempts to barrel through the middle. He beats a couple of challenges with a powerful run, but then he’s sent flying by a firm but fair tackle from Delaney, who monstered him at Stamford Bridge in August. That’s known as laying down a marker.
Play is stopped with Cesar Azpilicueta down clutching his face, having been caught in the jaw by Campbell’s foot. It was an accident, but that’s painful.
This would ordinarily be thought of as a top v. bottom clash but this season it's Palace in 5th against Chelsea in 15th.
Delaney continues his aggressive approach against Costa, but this time he’s too forceful with a fairly needless challenge from behind in a harmless area. He’s booked and he’ll have to watch himself now.
Now Mikel is in trouble. Not a booking but an unnecessary challenge that gives Palace a chance to whip a good ball into the area.
Meanwhile Eden Hazard is hobbling off the pitch. Hiddink will be forced to make an early change.
The free kick is cleared out for a corner. Meanwhile, Pedro is being prepared to come on.
Delaney has a free header but can't get any power behind it.
Pedro is quickly into the swing of things, attempting to make an instant impact with a shot from 20 yards. It’s blocked by Ward’s face and play is stopped so the Palace right-back can receive treatment. This game is not very good.
Now Willian fouls Zaha as he tries to skip around him. Another set piece opportunity for Palace.
Puncheon swings one in; Delaney is on to it again but can't direct it on goal with power.
All Palace pressure now - Zouma just cuts out a Zaha cross. Scott Dann attacks the resulting corner but it's cleared out.
Oh - Campbell makes a hash of a great chance presented to him by Puncheon. Complete miskick.
GOAL! Chelsea take the lead against the run of play. Oscar nets for the champions.
Lovely team goal there for the Blues. Fabregas threaded a slide rule pass through to Costa who provided the perfect cut back for the Brazilian.
0-1!
Hiddink's Chelsea continue to show that they're more resilient than the Chelsea side that turned out for Mou at the beginning of this season. What have Palace got now?
Really scrappy stuff now.
Puncheon hoicks a cross behind for a goal-kick.
Peep peep - the end of a fairly uninspiring half played in torrential rain, only livened up by the occasional moment from Jason Puncheon at one end and a lovely Oscar goal. Hoping for better in the second half.
The rain has stopped as the second half starts.
Chelsea win a free-kick on the right, Jedinak giving it away. Willian whips it towards the far post and Hennessey is forced to stay on his line by the quality of the delivery. It should end in a second Chelsea goal - but Zouma somehow directs his header high and wide from a few yards out.
GOAL! Willian notches Chelski's second!
Fabregas again starts the move, combining well with Oscar, who darts through the middle. He tries to burst past Dann, but he falls and the ball breaks to Willian, 25 yards out. He only has one thought in his mind. He charges on to it and belts a thunderous right-footer high past Hennessey and into the top left corner, the ball travelling into the net at a terrifying pace. What a strike from Chelsea’s player of the season!
0-3!
Costa bundles in another goal for the Blues and Jose Mourinho must be putting his foot through the telly.
Good morning mate. I just woke up and am glad to join you.
That proves that Josie is the problem.
Costa and Oscar have now scored five goals in four games between them since Mourinho’s sacking.
Morning, mate - glad to have you on board. This one is over.
I recorded the rest of the match, but it sounds like I'm in store for a treat
Oscar puts through Costa , who is tackled by Delaney for a corner. The corner from Fab is well overcooked. More burnt.
Based on your comments, Chelsea are no longer Josie and the PUssycats?
Oscar goes on a solo run and has a shot blocked by Scott Dann's bum that is hacked away by Joe Ledley
Scott Dann clears a pass from Willian for a corner
The corner was taken short and Oscar played through Willian , who crossed and it was volleyed over by Costa
Time to celebrate at the theater as the Phantom of the Opera is on for Oscar Not the Grouch, who gets a deserved ovation from the supporters , who travelled across London
It's over and Palace win 0-3 at Selhurst Park. Their first away win since August
It's all over at Selhurst Park. Palace will drop a bit and give Spurs, United and others a chance to climb.
The Spuds will remain fourth, a point behind Citeh if they win. The Toffees move two places up to ninth if they win.
I'm looking forward to the next match which could be a scoring duel between Harry Kane and the Chunk.
Next up is Everton, currently in 11th vs. Spurs, currently in 4th. You'll no doubt be plugging for the Toffees today, as Spurs are United's immediate rivals.
Hey boys, I am here after already gone on walkies and ready for the match
I am not sure who I am rooting for today. I like the way Spurs play and I'd like them to challenge for the title as I have been saying for months
Not happy with the Chelsea win even though that was a good result for United and kept them fifth
The teams now lining up in the tunnel at Goodison:
Everton: Howard; Coleman, Stones, Funes Mori, Baines; Barry, Cleverley; Lennon, Barkley, Kone; Lukaku. Subs: Robles, Jagielka, Mirallas, Besic, Deulofeu, Osman, Galloway.
Tottenham Hotspur: Lloris; Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies; Dier, Carroll; Lamela, Alli, Eriksen; Kane. Subs: Rose, Bentaleb, Son, Vorm, Trippier, Chadli, Onomah.
Referee: Michael Oliver (Northumberland)
Here come the teams out of tunnel to the tune of Z-Cars
Hey, mate - welcome! Great to have you on board.
Always love hearing the Z Cars Theme. Do you remember how that series ended?
Everton get us going. Is the Lukaku goalscoring streak still on?
We are off
no i don't
please tell
Good morning UWS. I'm back from getting pet food for both pets
No Lukaku didn't score in the 1 niller at St James' Park
All of the main characters were killed by ingesting carbon monoxide after being trapped in a garage. It's one of the most shocking series enders ever.
Welcome back, mate. You are Sparky and Fred's hero.
The streak is not on. The Chunk tied Bob Lathchford, but was one short of the all time club record set by the great Dixie Dean
Ah - shame. He's still tied with Jamie Vardy on 15. Verde's goals have dried up since he snatched the record.
Good start by Spurs here
From yesterday's matches, I saw a lot of headlines this morning saying that a certain #10 is back... I thought he wasn't impressive except for the goal and that was a great finish but quite jammy
Ta, Bob. Fred is happy about the win vs the Villain, but thinks it's an open invitation to be a villain and steal Sparky's meals!
I agree, UWS. The Karate kid was pulling the strings for United and Yashley had his best performance for United since the days of SAF
Quick start to this match for Spurs. Kane hits the post with a raking drive.
ooh, Kane goes very close!! Great hit.. inside of the post
Ashley Young was United's best player yesterday and was replaced by Paddy McNair.... just saying
No negative talk here
OH!!!! I thought that was in as Tom Carroll took a short free kick to Harry Kane . He had an attempted chip blocked then a long range effort came off the inside of the post and out for a goal kick. Timmy was completely beaten
I think LVG was paranoid
The Spuds are completing dominating the opening stages of the match early doors.
The wee beetle will be keen to have a good match against his old club. Well, it doesn't look like happening as his old club are dominating and are a much improved team since he left
A question. What United had made Pochettino manager instead of LVG? Discuss.

You'd certainly have a more attacking United side.
I cannot not speak negatively about anyone wearing red in a canal town in northwest england
Great anaraking , UWS. Becky and NBC deserve great credit and if Americans can be won over then anyone can be won over by this great sport.
Free kick chance for Spurs
Agreed, Bob. You could ponder about what if and ignore the current manager, UWS? I agree with Bob and believe that we would be up there with Citeh and the Gunners . I would have picked him instead of LVG, but what do I know?
Lamella into the wall
A free kick from Lam,ela is off the wall for a corner.. Corner taken short and cleared.
That's a good policy for 2016, UWS. You've done well so far to keep up your New Year's Resolution.
Any comments about Fred? He interpreted victory over the villains as an invitation to "steal" Sparky's dinner. I had to redirect Fred.
Yes he has.I'm still working on mine and plan to respond on the thread. given that I go back to work tomorrow.
The Toffees have had very little of the ball in this half.
And as I type that - Aaron Lennon nets for the hosts!
1-0!
GOAL!!!
one nil to the Toffees!
Nice finish by the old Spur
GOAL !!! A SPECTACULAR ONE FROM THE LUFC ACADEMY AGAINST HIS OLD MATES AGAINST THE RUN OF PLAY
Leeds United shout out there - lovely bubbly.
Nice knock-down from The Chunk to LUFC Academy.
Wasn't that the Toffees first attack of the match?
Oh - Everton are suddenly on the rampage. Lennon nearly finds Kone in the box.
Kone could have double Everton's lead... good block
Kone has a shot blocked by Alderweireld off a run and pass from the LuFC Academy
I think it was - definitely their first strike on goal.
All three of us should get satisfaction in the goal as both the MUFC and LUFC Academies were involved.Cl;ever Boy crossed, the Chunk headed down, and Lennon scored with a rocket in the upper 90 from the opposite corner of the box. Lloris did not stand a chance., It all started when Baines picked Eriksen's pocket
It doesn't get any easier for the Spuds as they are surely involved in the tie of the Third Round next Sunday as the host the Foxes this time next Sunday
Oh - the woodwork saves Everton again. Davies rockets one off the crossbar!
A great strike by Spurs again and hits the same frame!
OH !!! A long range rocket from Ben Davies off a short corner rockets off the bar leaving Timmy stranded.
The Spuds dominated both matches that they have lost this season. Will the same be true today?
Arlo says Kane and Davies. Shouldn't it be Caine and Abel?
Spurs trail despite having 61% of the possession. Shows you what nonsense that stat can be.
Timmy easily catches a long range effort from Tom Carroll. Easier than the previous two.
Totally agree but this possession is creating chances unlike other certain teams
Actually, I think it's accurate this time. They've dominated and hit the woodwork twice. I think they will eventually score of they are persistent.
Agreed, UWS. This is not LVG type possession.
Seamus Coleman is booked for handball. That seemed unintentional and harsh, but Michael Oliver felt that it didn't cut the mustard.
no comment...nyr
A low cross from Ben Davies is cut out by Coleman for a corner.
Understood.
Well done, lad .
Any snow in Fred Town? Indian summer must be over. The same for ENY?
Kone is offside from a through ball by the Chunk. Just a tad off.
This one is petering out to the half. I'm off to the magical couch for a half-time snooze. Still recovering from the long drive yesterday.
An awkward fall by Coleman into the advert boarding while preventing a corner. He seems to be okay
Glad you made it back safely. You could have used some extra kip. Not that I would know anything about that
I think the second half will be more exciting.A reminder that the Toffees have let several recent leads slip and have been know to ship late goals.
just flakes in the air in ENY
Only got our first snow... and not much of it.. on Dec 29
Coleman is offside off a superb long ball from Barkley.
Two minutes of stoppage time and
GOAL ALLI PUNCHES IN AN EQUALIZER.
all square!
Alli with a deserved equalizer
There was talk about why a certain manager up north didn't sign him up after he ran rings around his team in MK Dons 4-0 win
A definite atypical SPuds goal as a a long ball from Alderweireld was chested down by Alli and volleyed home.
Nothing is wrong with a long ball!!!!
SOunds familiar. He ran rings around Jonny Evans
Agreed , UWS. It's 1-1 at the half as the SPuds just equalized and deservedly so after one of their old boys scored against them. Both goals were great goals.
The second half is underway from Stanley Park.
The Spuds last road loss was opening at OT where it was 1-0 thanks to a Kyle walker OG
I'm back after a lucious snooze on the couch.
This could be a big 45 minutes in Tottenham’s season.
Nice solo run by Barkley, but a sliced shot at the end thanks to good pressuring from Tom Carroll.
I think so.The Toffees have let leads slip and have shipped in late goals. The former has already occurred, so I expect a great second half.
Too comfy on recliner to move back to kitchen
I'll comment on my phone
Useless by Barley.... Overrated in my book
How often have we seen that. Aaron Lennon burns down the wing and reaches an impossible ball but his cut back is easily cleared out. Sums up his career.
deli boy is in the England side before Ross boy
Welcome back Bob and Dave. I thought Carroll did well to pressure Barkley into a mistake and remember Lennon's goal.
Alli must have punched his way in.
Oh - great move from Spurs but Kane couldn't profit.
Kane with a chance
Ball wouldn't come down
Kane has a shot blocked by Stones for a corner.
No. I guess it's a goal kick
How about Carroll in the squad to bring off the bench
I'd have him at OT
The sun is out for the first time since Monday. Bob will be interested to know that we had the same whether that we did at the wildlife park except it rained instead of drizzled.we had to run the heat for the first time this winter.
Carroll has only played a handful of matches and has been loaned to more clubs than Arnold Palmer. I may say yes in May
I really need to visit the khazi but I'm mindful of Nocito's Law.
A double switch for the Toffees Besic for Kone and a standing ovation for the wee beetle as he's replaced by Deulofeu. One defensive switch and one like for like.
Double switch by Martinez at the hour mark. Kone and Lennon off and Delafeu and Basic on.
It's a really tough law.
Did he bring on Besic because Roberto feels that the Spuds are too dominant in the center of Stanley Park?
Deulofeu wins a corner off of Ben Davies. The Toffees first corner of the match
A couple of good blocks by the Spuds off the corner then a good cross by Deulofeu just misses the Chunk at the far post.
Nice slide tackle by Lloris on Barkley
Both teams attacking well
I just flouted Nocito's Law - still 1-1.
Nice suggestion by Arlo, campaigning for Pochettino to go to OT. Then his compatriot, Lamela , is booked for cumulative fouls.
Number One Son, who scored the inner on Monday at Vicarage Road, is on for Eriksen
Tom Carroll booked for a foul from behind on Barkley on a Toffees break
Deulofeu has a pass blocked by Davies for a Toffees corner.
Alderweireld heads away the corner from Baines.
Number One Son has a powerful long range effort go straight to Timmy.
Timmy's punching has not been the greatest/ He should take lessons from Alli.
A superb volley by Besic is acrobatically tipped over by Lloris
The corner from Baines is headed just wide by Funes-Mori
Wish a certain team attacked like these two teams
Which one? A hint please.
Nope - UWS can't give hints. NYR.
Chadli is on for Alli.
Chadli comes on for a late cameo.
Bugger! I haven't a clue.
This Spuds team resembles the United of old. Very similar in playing styles.
Not nearly as good, though. Spurs are still wannabes.
The Toffees win a corner.Head tennis and the Toffees maintain possession.
Young Josh Onomah is on for Lamela in the final roll of the dice for Pochettino
Agreed, but the SPuds are headed in the right direction and signs that Pochettino could do the job at OT. Also, he's developed as many young English players as anyone else./
This one is being seen out for a score draw, which will leave Spurs in 4th, just ahead of United and Everton in 11th.
Three minutes of stoppage time as the Toffees press for a late winner.
Arlo senses "something special."
Correct. That would leave the Spuds three points behind Citeh ahead of an exciting Cup tie vs the Foxes next Sunday
The Chunk blasts over pressured by compatriot, Vertonghen
Great end to this match. But it ends 1-1.
Both teams have chances but it
Ends all square
Both teams are very entertaining
Pleasing on the eye
Well done both teams
Ttfn
Take care boys
Great save by Lloris by Barkley then hacked away. An exciting match finishes 1-1.
Cheers lads. iut was great chatting. Wishing you the best on your return to work. Cheers!
Cheerio, lads - great chatting with you today.
