We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!
Day 3 - Group C: Germany v. Ukraine
Group C action wraps up this evening in Lille with the marquee match-up of current World Champions Germany against their neighbors to the east Ukraine. I haven't been impressed by any particular side yet (apart from England - seriously!). Let's see if the Germans can fire the imaginations.

I'm back after a delicious lunch of sausage rolls and Cornish pasties that I picked up in Buffalo at Parker's on the way out here on Friday.
Settling in to watch the World Champs.

And we're away in this evening's marquee match.
Ukraine's fans are going all bouncy bouncy in the stands now - a great day out for them.
OH - first chance falls to Ukraine. Sharp shot and great save by Neuer.
Germany defend the corner well, with Neuer catching, not punching, a high ball. Why, oh why, don’t more keepers do that?
Not impressed by the Germans yet; it's all a bit boring.
GOAL! Mustafi nips in to head Germany into the lead.
Great ball in there and a super header straight in. Football is a simple game, innit?
Goetze poleaxed Pyatov there.
Oh - another superb save by Neuer from the header. Is there any way to beat this guy?
Oh - great save Pyatov from Khedira.
Good save off the line there from Boateng - excellent defending there.
Ukraine have done enough in this first half to confirm my initial prediction that they would finish second in this group.
Ukraine are going through a purple period now.
Oh - shame that Shevchuk couldn't pick out the right ball there.
Great pick out by Neuer.
The half ends with Ukraine with their tails up. They've got plenty to hope for in the second half, even though they troop in a goal down to the World Champs.
Ukraine get us underway in the second half - they've got plenty to play for here.
Draxler pulls the trigger - good save by Pyatov.
Kroos with a speculative effort - well over the bar.
Oh - great free kick there - well saved Neuer.
Oh - Ukraine are certainly knocking on the door.
Great save, Pyatov - this is becoming a clinic for goalkeeping.
As this match has descended into tedium, we started a Spinal Tap recitation competition here at UWS Castle.
Muller with an effort from outside the box, decently turned around by Pyatov.
I'm officially goal starved.
Schurrle you can't be serious is coming on to replace Draxler.
First touch from Schurrle is a shot just wide right.
This one is following the same pattern as the other two matches today. An early goal by the favored side and then not enough quality from their opponents to strike back.
Ozil is played through on goal but he finds Pyatov's stomach.
Neuer is forced to snuff out another chance. Ukraine are not done yet.
Could easily have been a penalty there conceded by Neuer. Close call for the Germans.
And now we've got the Pigstick coming on.
Three minutes of stoppage time to come.
Yarmolenko takes a speculative shot and earns a corner. Comes to nothing.
GOAL! Germany runs back up the pitch and scores through Pigstick.
2-0!
And that was the last kick of the match.
2-0 in the end.
