Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Afternoon, chaps - welcome to Mersey Monday with Everton and Liverpool set to face off for the 227th time in their timeworn rivalry. The Reds, currently joint third in the table and nine points adrift of leaders Chelsea, arrive at Goodison Park fresh off a 3-0 victory over Middlesbrough on Thursday. Meanwhile, Ronald Koeman’s men are riding high after an inspired come-from-behind win over Arsenal one day prior.
Good afternoon, mate. I'm here to join you for the action.
The Z Cars is pumping as the teams enter the field at Goodison:
Everton: Stekelenburg, Coleman, Funes Mori, Williams, Baines, Gueye, McCarthy, Lennon, Barkley, Valencia, Lukaku
Subs: Robles, Holgate, Kenny, Calvert-Lewin, Barry, Cleverley, Mirallas
Liverpool: Mignolet, Clyne, Lovren, Klavan, Milner, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Lallana, Firmino, Mane, Origi
Subs: Karius, Moreno, Lucas, Can, Alexander-Arnold, Woodburn, Sturridge
Referee: Mike Dean
Marvelous - thanks for joining me. UWS is unfortunately stuck at work.
Glad to enjoy the pleasure of your company. I'm here at home while the girls are at school. They have a half day tomorrow then they start their vacation, then Jacquelyn's birthday on Wednesday
Tackles will be flying in fast and furious
Mike Dean's first derby match. We're just about set to go, with both sides wearing their traditional kits.
They're off from Goodison Park.
A great sight, the kits that is.
Fantastic atmosphere at Goodison. The place is rocking.
This fixture has produced more red cards than any other in the Premier League era and the most card happy ref in the Prem is in charge. Brilliant thniking
It's an absolutely cracking atmosphere.
It'll be fascinating to see how Minny responds to being thrown into the cauldron of a derby match after his absence from the side.
Interesting point about Mike Dean, mate.
Cheers, Bob. Also, I think Minnie is the better keeper for the Derby due to his experience with Mersey Derbies as opposed to Karius, who may be overawed by the occasion after a poor run of form
Has it been a busy day today in WNY?
Lukaku is already looking dangerous. There should be some goals (and cards) in this one.
It has been - a bit of late holiday shopping and some grading.
Hopefully, you are on the tail end of the grading. It's time for a well earned rest.
The Toffees are upping the ante as they force a blocked shot.
I am, mate - now it's just snow shoveling and watching the footer.
Tempers start to fray as Pool fail to clear and Enner Valencia is fouled by Firmino about 25 yards from goal.
Into the wall by Enner. Then Barkley is called for a foul
Nice free kick chance now for Everton.
Enner Valencia takes it and it's straight into the wall. Should have gone to Leighton Baines.
I hope you do not have too much shoveling. We had our chilliest morning of the season. Overcast with lows in the mid 30s and wind chills in the mid 20s this morning, but the sun is starting to make a brief appearance.
Everton with most of the early pressure, as you would hope from a home side. They're not going to be overawed by their city rivals.
We had another half a foot last night, so I need to tidy up the drive.
Enner Valencia was doing his best impersonation of our Valencia with that free kick.
Yikes!!! it sounds like your work is never done during the winter months.
Ashley Williams is not letting Origi have a sniff. Liverpool are really missing Coutinho.
Well - we get about 100 inches of the white stuff per season, so it's a constant war. It's my workout program in the winter.
The Toffees ha d a promising break, but the cross from Coleman had a little too much mustard and was cleared away.
It sounds like it . Sounds like time for a well deserved cuppa.
That's my second half plan.
Enner Valencia looking like he was auditioning for Happy Feet, lost control of the ball and went down just outside the Pool box ,looking for a free kick. Jimmy Dean was having none of the nonsense.
A great plan, mate. Well in.
The Toffees continue pressuring Liverpool as a last ditch, full length stretch was required to prevent a great chance for the Toffees. The Barkley shoots wide from a difficult angle. Great defending by Klaven on the Chunk from a cross by Lennon, the Wee Beetle from the LUFC Academy.
Stecks has had nothing to between the sticks for the Toffees.
Arlo said that this is the seventh Merseyside Derby played on a Monday night. The Toffees have lost only one of the previous six. A good sign?
It might well be - they've definitely been the better side so far.
The first chance of the match for the Reds as Wijnaldum shoots over from about 25 yards out.
Not a lot of chances yet, for all of the storm and stress.
Did you see the Boxing Day Schedule? I will have a late lie in as the early one is Watford vs Palace and join everyone for the 10 AMERS and the late one.
Agreed, mate. It's been more about the atmosphere and the battle of attrition than anything else.
Toffees fans want hand ball on Hendo, but it looked like ball to hand, IMHO.
Oh - Origi had a chance seven yards out but the ball in was just behind him.
Then the red half go straight up the other end of the pitch and Clyne gets free down the right and Origi shoots over from about six yards out. The bets chance of the match.
McCarthy is down after what looked a minor barge by Firmino. He seems to be okay. Gareth Barry is warming up just in case.
Enner Valencia wins a corner off of two Pool players then Funes-Mori heads wide from a corner from Barkley with a free header in the six yard box. The best chance of the match for the Toffees.
I think that was the first corner of the match for either team. Tons of commitment and passion, but little end product.
Barkley grabs Origi's shot then fouls him near the Toffees corner flag as we enter a minute of stoppage time.
One last chance for Pool - cleared out.
Stecks somewhat punches away the free kick.
It's 0-0 at the end of a passionate half where chances have been at a premium.
Half-time - Off to shovel.
Gareth Barry is on for the injured James McCArthy as the second half is underway
Gareth Barry is now second all time in Premier League appearances, surpassing Frank Lampard.,
Not the most attacking move from Koeman.
I'm back from my shoveling duties - the driveway looks sparkling.
Milner wins Pool's first corner of the match and they keep the ball after a bout of head tennis.
Congratulations. Well done.
Agreed about the change, but considering it was due to an injury and it's derby, it's not too surprising.
Oh - Origi was nearly in there for an opener. Just scrambled away. Pool have started the more lively.
Another Pool corner after some incessant pressure.
I suppose that's true. I'll give the pudgy Dutchman a break.
Pool nearly took the lead as Milner lumped a long ball that caught out Funes-Mori and Stecks made a close range block from Firmino, who then crossed and Oriogi had a shot blocked.
Very nice of you during this season of good will. Very kind as always.
There has been more attacking the first five minutes of the second half than the entire first half combined.
Coleman puts in a diagonal cross , but the header from the Chunk lacked the mustard to trouble his fellow Belgian in the Pool goal as it went wide.
Naughty by Loveren , who took a Chunk out of the player he was making and gets a card a few days before the holidays.
The Everton faithful are baying for a yellow card for Lovren for a hack on The Chunk.
Yellow card it is, from card-happy Mike Dean. It's the first of the match - go figure.
OH!!! A battle fo former Saints as Stecks rushed out of the Toffees goal and forces Mane to shoot wide. The big Dutch keeper is down as he collided with teammate, Baines.
Joel Robles is warming up just in case Stecks cannot continue between the Sticks.
Stek has a problem now - could have to come off.
Jimmy Dean is find cards in low supply due to the holiday rush. That's my best guess.
Play resumes , but Stecks is still hobbling. Ashley Williams takes the goal kick
Looks like Joel is being prepared to replace him - and not before long.
He's coming on because the injured keeper is not fit enough to continue between the sticks.
I am guessing that there will be about a half dozen minutes of stoppage time.
Barkley is booked for a foul on Hendo , who is still down and Loveren nearly instigates a fight as he tried to start one with Barkley. He's restrained by Liverpool teammates . Loveren and Coleman are booked after the melee.
Barkley picks up a yellow for an agricultural challenge there and provokes some "fruity" language from the crowd.
Hendo looks like he will be okay to continue.
At least that much - there's been more niggles and injuries than real football in this match.
Still 0-0 with twenty minutes plus stoppage time remaining.
Mane is down off a minor push from the smallest player on the pitch, the wee beetle from the LUFC Academy. Why that won't cause me an injuries for another twenty years
A standing ovation for Enner Valencia as he's replaced by young Calvert, who made his Toffees debut last Tuesday vs the Gunners. Bob will see that as an evil substitution since Fat Ronnie signed Calvert from the Blades in the summer.
Boos from the home fans for Loveren's foul on Baines. He's not the most popular person with the fans due to his antics a few minutes ago.
Origi has a shot blocked for a corner off a pass from Mane
The corner is headed away, but Milner keeps it in play as his cross is blocked for a throw.
Firmino tries something acrobatic - never comes off.
Firmino goes for the spectacular bicycle kick and is well wide to the amusement of Toffees fans..
Chelski will be smiling at this one. It's clear that while they continue to click along winning matches, all of their major rivals are suffering a lack of form.
What a great save by Robles from a powerful volley from Firmino
Agreed, Bob. A draw leaves Chelski seven points clear of Citeh and Pool in third , eight points behind Chelski, who surely will defeat the Cherries on Boxing Day , even without Costa
Klopp makes a double substitution" Sturrdige for for Origi and Can for Lallana as it's basically like for like.
That was never Gana be permitted as Gana is booked for a rash foul on Mane about 25 yards from goal.
The free kick is taken short then lofted in by Milner . It's cleared , but Pool keep possession,. Coleman blocks from Can
Pool looking the most likely of the two teams of getting a late winner.
He's Gana have to be careful as Gana is on a card and is guilty of another rash challenge.
Young Calvert concedes a Pool corner.
Robles misses the corner as Klaven heads down, then Ashley Williams clears
WOW!!!! Eight is enough! There are eights minutes of stoppage time./
The ball breaks to the Chunk, who goes on a solo run, but he's surrounded by four red jerseys as he's about to shoot.
GOAL! Mane has stolen it for Liverpool in the 94th minute - wow!
GOAL !!!MANE OH MANE!!! HE'S WON IT FOR POOL IN THE 94TH MINUTE!
It all stemmed from a shot from Sturridge, which trickled by Robles and came back off the post to Mane.
0-1 Pool!
Wijnaldum played a cross field ball down the right to Clyne, who passed to Sturridge. He cut in and his shot eluded the dive of Robles and came off the post. Clyne beat two Toffees defenders to put away the rebound from two yards out.
OH!!!Nearly a second for Pool as Coleman , spectacularly, clears off the line from Firmino off a slide tackle from Mane.
Lucas is on for Mane in the final seconds.
This moves Pool up to second, six points behind Chelski
That's it as Pool win a dramatic Derby 0-1 at Goodison Park thanks to a 94th minute winner from Mane.
Wow - Liverpool have stolen that result. They'll end up tonight in second, a point ahead of Citeh but still six points back from Chelski at the top.
A big, big win for Poola and a sucker punch to the solar plexus for the Toffees.
It's been great chatting with you. Have a great Christmas and I look forward to chatting with you in exactly a week. Have a great week. Cheers mate!
