They're off from a dreary , overcast Camping World Stadium in Orlando.
Stevie Nicol and some other geezer doing the announcing.
A decent early chance for PSG as Cavani had a free header that he headed wide off a great cross from Rabiot.
A great PSG possession culminates in a shot from Thiago Motta that is over from about 25 yards out.
GOAL !!! CAVANI GIVES PSG THE LEAD WITH A TAP IN AS THE SPUDS WERE CAUGHT OUT ON A COUNTER. THE LEFT BACK PLAYED A BALL OUT OF HIS BOX TO RABIOT, WHO CAUGHT THE BACK FOUR FLAT FOOTED AND WENT ON A 50 YARD RUN, LAYING IT ON A PLATE FOR CAVANI.
GOAL !!!! ERIKSEN TIES IT UP WITH A SPECTACULAR ROCKET OF A SHOT IN THE UPPER 90 FROM 35 YARDS OUT!!!
The Spuds high press paid dividends as Kyle Walker-Peters won the ball in midfield and two passes later Eriksen scored a spectacular goal
PSG nearly regain the lead as Marquinhos heads just wide from a free kick,
LLoris palms away the ball as Cavani chested down A pass then Pastore blasted the rebound over.
GOAL !!! PSG KEEPER, KEVIN TRAPP WILL WANT THAT BACK AS HE GOT A BACK PASS AND HAD A CLEARANCE THAT CANNONED OFF OF ERIC DIER FOR A SPUDS GOAL . EMBARRASSING FOR THE GERMAN KEEPER.
Thiago Motta holds back Eriksen to prevent a fast break and somehow got away without being booked.
Evening, mate - I'm helping out Kate with a project in the office. I'll be back for the late match. Thanks for getting us started.
The Spuds should have taken a 3-1 lead as two youngsters combined . Kyle Walker-Peters put in a great cross and Nkoudou volleyed well over from three yards out.
Cheers, Bob. I look forward to chatting with you.
Lloris comfortably saves a long range effort from Cavani.
The water break.
Play resumes
Great close range by Kevin Trapp off a cheeky back heel from Ben Davies. Great through ball from Eriksen
GOAL !!! DESMOND IN ORLANDO AS YOUNG KYLE WALKER-PETERS CHEAPLY LOST POSSESSION AND PASTORE SCORED WITH A SUPERB CURLER IN THE UPPER 90 OFF A SUPERB THROUGH BALL FROM CAVANI.
Rabiot was down for treatment, but got the magic spray on his ankle and play resumes.
The Spuds nearly take the lead as a header from a free kick came off the post. It came off a PSG defender as a corner was given . It stemmed from a foul by Dani Alves on Nkoudou.
Eric Dier is down , clenching his tummy and the announcer mentions that he's a Man Yoo target. The possible future United player is up and play resumes.
A minute of stoppage time even though there was a two minute water break.
Cavani straight at Lloris and the halftime whistle is blown 52 seconds into stoppage time. Desmond at the end of a really entertaining first half.
Harry Kane is on, presumably , for Vinny Janssen as is Matuidi. Second half underway
WOW!!!! Twenty second into the second half , PSG keeper, Kevin Trapp was trapped and is sent off for intentional hand ball outside his box.
It came straight off the kickoff and a long ball out of the back caused the German keeper to rush out and he handled out of his box.
Arriola, the sub keeper for PSG, does well to turn around a free kick from Eriksen
The Spuds nearly took the lead as the PSG left back gifted possession and Delle Alli blasted over with just the keeper to beat
Not sure who came off so that the new PSG keeper could come on.
Jese, the new signing from Real, is booked for cynically sandwiching Delle Alli.
Arriola comfortably saves a well struck long range effort from Wanyama.
Eriksen blasts a shot from thirty yards out just wide off a sloppy PSG clearance.
Great last ditch tackle by Toby on Bernede for a corner off a long ball from the back after being initially caught out.
A water break.
Play resumes
GOAL !!!! THE SPUDS LEAD 3-2 THANKS TO A SUPERB LONG RANGE SHOT FROM TOBY THAT LANDS IN THE CORNER TO CULMINATE A THIRTY PASS POSSESSION.
Arriola does well to push away a long range effort from Eriksen.
Penalty Spuds as Harry Kane had his shirt pulled by Marquinhos.
GOAL!!! 4-2 SPUDS AS HARRY KANE SMASHES THE PENALTY DOWN THE MIDDLE INTO THE ROOF OF THE NET AS ARRIOLA DOVE THE WRONG WAY.
The Spuds defeat PSG 4-2 in an entertaining match . They were helped by the fact that they played with an extra man for pretty much the entire second half.
Next is the U.S. vs the Ticos from Cowboys Stadium on FS 1
It's technically AT&T Stadium , but the Cowboys play their home games at this venue.
Their off from AT&T Stadium.
OH!!!! Off the post from the Pie Eater ten seconds in.
Nice long ball from Little Susie was headed down and Jozy played in the Pie Eater, who beat the keeper at his near post as his shot cannoned off the post
Guzman, of the Timbers , volleys wide from 25 yards after a cross was headed out.
Hi again - I'm finally here to join you for the festivities. Gooner should be along shortly after returning from the DC United match tonight. Thanks again for keeping the home fires burning tonight.
Arriola wins a U.S. corner.
How has it been so far? The commentators are talking about it being a fast start for the US.
Good evening, mate. It's my pleasure and great to enjoy the pleasure of your company.
Bruce Arena giving the officials some stick. He doesn't want a repeat of the fiasco in Philly.
Correct, Bob. The Pie Eater had a shot cannon off the post ten seconds into the match
The team news, just in case you missed it:
US: 2-Jorge VillafaƱa 3-Omar Gonzalez, 5-Matt Besler, 8-Jordan Morris, 19-Graham Zusi, 20-Paul Arriola, 23-Kellyn Acosta, 24-Tim Howard, 25-Darlington Nagbe, 26-Michael Bradley (capt.), 27-Jozy Altidore
Substitutes: 12-Bill Hamid, 29-Jesse Gonzalez, 4-Matt Miazga, 7-Chris Pontius, 9-Gyasi Zardes, 10-Joe Corona, 13-Dax McCarty, 15-Eric Lichaj, 16-Justin Morrow, 18-Juan Agudelo, 21-Matt Hedges, 28-Clint Dempsey
Gooner may not be in the best of moods as the Dynamo thrashed DC United 3-0.
The referee seems to be trying to assert his authority early doors.
Uh oh - he might have stopped off for a pint or two with his mates, then.
Joel Aguilar being very Authoritative as Guzman of the Ticos tries to start a fight and he runs over letting him know that won't happen on his watch. Guzman stopped immediately and even apologizes. Isn't this common sense?
You missed a really entertaining match from Orlando .
OH!!! Too many passes arsenal style Acosta the U.S. the lead.
Oh - big chance there for Acosta there. Morris found Dozy really well but the cut back was just too far behind Acosta.
It sounded like it!
The Pie Eater, Dozy , and Arriola combined as Acosta back heeled over from close range.
The Ticos look out of sorts , which is surprising that they have come into the match as the in form team of the tournament.
This already seems like a rather cagey affair. Could come down to one goal or another.
I agree - the US are certainly in the ascendancy. Very few chances from the Ticos.
That's how most of the Ticos matches have been with the exception of the match against the cheating French Toast.
Oh - that deflection could have gone anywhere. Timmy was happy to grab it out of the Texas sky.
How far away from you is Arlington, mate? It looks rather hot there tonight.
A question about the post. The image is a tad outdated? also, the shield still in the U.K. due to Trump's tariffs?
The US winning a lot of the loose balls in midfield.
Arlington is midway between Dallas and Fort Worth , which is about 500 miles to our North.
Nice run down the wing by Arriola but his cross was easily cut out.
The match is being played indoors in an air conditioned stadium. It shouldn't be too severe.
Ah - well, that helps, I'm sure. Still - a lot of the players appear to be sweating profusely.
The Ticos win their first corner.
Kyle Walker has been transferred from the Spuds to Citeh , so the aptly named Kyle Walker-Peters played in his position . A coincidence?
Same colors being worn as in the earlier match.
Nagby down after a poor challenge. The advantage was supposedly played.
Uh oh - the Wave has started - fans are beginning to grow restless.
The Ticos are appear to be playing for penalties.
Oh - great save by Timmy keeps the Ticos out.
Then as I type the Ticos nearly score as Bryan Ruiz played through Urena , who forced a kick save from Timmy . Their first shot of the match.
Guzman goes down looking for a penalty and Joe Aguilar let's him know that he's not tolerating that nonsense.
Hiya Chaps. Third time's a charm hopefully. I got up early to watch my Arsenal boys get drummed by Chelski, then watched Houston effortlessly stick 3 past the hapless Travis Worra who's tending goal while Hamid gets the rich experience of watching from a bench in Texas. I hope the USA can sort these Ticos out because this is the most important one of the three I've watched today.
The U.S . go straight up the other end and win a corner.
Good evening, Gooner. Hopefully the third attempt brings a U.S. win.
Little Susie called for a foul on Ramirez.
The closest anyone came to scoring was the U.S. when the Pie Eater had a shot cannon off the post ten seconds into the match. Fairly cagey since then.
Evening, Gooner - great to have you on board. Tight affair here in Texas tonight. It appears that the Ticos are playing for extra time or to punk us on the break through Bryan Ruiz.
Nagbe wins a free kick as Boris Yeltsin Tejeda fouls him about thirty yards out.
BTW, are you watching this in English on some alternate chaannel? FS1 is supposed to have the match, but it's the beisbal on.
Head tennis off the free kick from Bradley the Besler with a volley well over.
Any chance of snow Al-Prez? We do well against these chumps in a blizzard.
I'm watching it on FS1 in English.
I'm watching on FS1, listening to Landy Cakes and some weak commentary from John Strong.
No chance of snow in an indoor stadium , LOL!
The Snow Bowl is still one of my favorite US matches of all time.
The Ticos win a corner.
Finally, the beisbal ended and I can switch. Right when the half finished.
And that's half time. 0-0. Each side had one of two chances but fairly disappointing spectacle so far.
It's headed and 0-0 at the end of a cagey half where the U.S. nearly took the lead ten seconds into the match.
Popcorn! I'll be back shortly
Elizabeth recommends Pop Secret.
Nice one, Gooner - I was thinking the same thing but perhaps as a late night snack with a movie after the match.
The second half is underway.
According to Eric Clapton, you will be blogging after midnight.
According to the announcer, it goes straight to penalties if it's tied at the end of the second half. No extra time?
OK, just a minute or two delay. I stovetop pop David. My Dad was a great popcorn chef and he taught me. I brought a pot from my mother's kitchen to college because I had access to a stove on my dorm floor.
Hey, did you all see this? Just announced. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/soccer-insider/wp/2017/07/22/salvadoran-players-suspended-for-biting-and-nipple-pinching-incidents/?utm_term=.b87200073beb
Clint and Lichaj are two potential game changers on the U.S. bench.
Well done. I bet it tastes best that way. That link sounds like an interesting read. They along with that so called ref should get lengthy suspensions.
Dad was the master, but you've certainly carried on the torch, mate.
OH!!! Great cross from Little Susie intended for Nagbe and Dozy as the Pie Eater forced Ticos keeper, Pemberton, out of position./
The Gingeree shouldn't turn down an outing because he's waiting for a match assignment.
Nagbe with a whiff on that walkabout from the Tico keeper
Sure sounds like it. A time honored tradition.
Ginger Zee would not have done any worse. I wouldn't trust the Gingeree officiating even an under fives match.
Dangerous free kick punched out by Timmy.
Oh - decent cross there from Villafana but no one on hand in the six yard box to stab it home. We need someone with a killer instinct in those areas.
Timmy punches away a Ticos fee kick then referee , Joel Aguilar blocks a Ticos shot. Kendall Waston, whom I maintain doesn't know how to spell Watson, is called for a foul on Timmy.
Of - another great cross, this time from Arriola on the other side. Nearly an own goal.
I get a hive when a commentator calls a player by his first name or nickname. Am I alone?
OH!!! A timely block by Kendall Waston off a cross from Arriola.
LEARN HOW TO SPELL YOUR SURNAME!
No. You are not. I completely agree with you. Only the top one percent deserve that, which would exclude all the participants in this match.
He's a big lad, that TYPO bloke
Yeah - the nickname thing is terrible. English color guys are notorious about that. It's all "JT" this and "Roon" that. Leave that for the fans.
It just sounds too pally to me. And given the high level of happy talk, it diminishes any point the commentator might make.
Omar Gonzalez booked for a foul on an attempted Ticos break. The first booking of the match?
Guzman wins a Ticos corner off of Villafana.
High and wide by Little Susie
Far too pally, agreed mate.
Perfect example. Landycakes said so and so about "Omar" and my mind wandered and wondered if they'd been teammates at the Glams. I completely missed that Gonzalez got a ticket.
Looks like Clint Dempsey is being readied to come on. Who should come off?
What exactly will the Salvadoran players be suspended for? Eliminated from World Cup qualifying. Would it be the next Gold Cup when by that time they may not even be part of the national team?
I would take off Dozy. Never mind he has a powerful effort punched away by Pemberton.
Oh - Dozy finally found some space and rifled one. Good save.
Bradley now over a free kick - big chance here.
Guzman fouls Nagbe just outside the Ticos box as Clint is on for Arriola to add weight to the attack.
Excellent - referee booked a player for elbowing Dempsey.
Gonzalez booked after being warned about pushing in the box.
Pemberton punches clear and the Ticos try to mount a counter.
Any competitive FIFA sanctioned international. It's a big punishment because as you point out El Salvador doesn't have so many of those. Romero will be unavailable for some time, as long as a year maybe more. and that's a really thing. And Ceren is their captain. He'll be out a while too with the 3-match ban. Good news for the Quacks where he earns his crust.
OH!!! What a superb one handed saver by Pemberton that Acosta the U.S. the lead.
Oh - great save by Timmy. This match is really opening up now.
Why does this whistling midget think that was a free. Their keeper and Jozy fought for it cleanly and the keeper gathered. Unnecessary stoppage whistle-boy.
This is a bit too end to end for me in the last 3-5 minutes
Thanks for the clarification, Gooner. That sounds like the Gold Cup qualifiers two years from now. I'm guess they can play in friendlies where they won't be friendly , but what's the point
GOAL! Dozy finally comes up with the goods!!!!!
GOAAAAAAL !!!! JOZY GIVES THE U.S . THE LEAD A MINUTE AFTER A SUPERB ONE HANDED SAVE FROM TIMMY.
Lovely pass through to Dozy who took his chance well, slipping the shot under Pemberton. Lovely finish.
1-0 US!
Jozy with his first goal in ten matches for the U.S. and booked for taking off his shirt.
But that goal will do nicely. Great finish that I wasn't sure he could get to. Nice run from Dempsey with the ball to give Jozy space to run into.
Dumb as a rock picking up the yellow. He fouls defenders and often will pick up one too many fouls that ends up a yellow.
The US should be able to bolt the door from this point.
Oh - nice move again from the US. Villafana with a dangerous cross at the end of it. Just behind Morris.
Seconds after the superb save by Timmy from Urena, Nagbe passed to Clint , who got past two Ticos players and played a superb through ball to Jozy, who scored with a great finish past the on rushing Pemberton.
The Ticos will be forced out of their shell. The one problem in playing for penalties is being forced to come from behind with not much time remaining.
Zardes getting prepared to come on.
Waston , or is it Watson , that fouls Acosta just outside the Ticos box.
Wise move by Bruce in this Arena as Zardes is no for the scorer, who is on a yellow and replaced by some one with yellow hair.
It's too bad that Zardes gives away possession so easily. He's exactly the kind of labrador you would want chasing and harrying the Ticos until the final whistle. I know that his engine is why the Mad Hatter is sticking him on but he coughs the ball up too easily.
Dempsey over a free kick now.
GOAL! Sneaks one in the near post. Pemberton was punked.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! THE TEXAS KID PUTS THE U.S. TWO UP IN TEXAS AND SURELY SEALS A PLACE IN THE FINAL WITH A GREAT FREE KICK
Really poor from the Ticos defense. The wall fell apart on impact and Dempsey found the spot. Pemberton had no chance.
2-0!
Nice. A bobbler that just has enough pace to get in. The two Ticos at the end of that wall have some splainin' to do. 2-0 USA
Agreed. Pemberton beaten at the post he should have covered, but we'll take it.
Dempsey ties Landycakes for all time scoring.
A warning for the U.S. as the Ticos whip in a free kick and Calvo has a header off the bar, but the offside flag was raised
A schnauzer to compliment the labrador. Dax McCarty will be biting ankles from now on.
The final roll of the dice for Bruce in this arena as Sacks McCarty is on for Acosted
US just knocking it about to take time off the clock now.
I was thinking more of a moody Chihuahua , but your description is accurate.
Oh - Morris nearly in for the third there.
The Pie Eater has lost about a stone since kickoff.
It's Sunday morning on the East Coast. Eric Clapton sings " After Midnight."
That was never a foul! That keeper goes on walkies again, and again, Whistleto bails him out. Tired of it.
Will anyone be around for United vs Real at 5 PM EDT?
A trio of minutes of stoppage time.
Not I, mate. Maybe UWS will join you?
These teams meet again in WC qualifying in about half a dozen weeks.
By the way, as to your question about the PPP post, I heard from Yellows today. He had forgotten about posting the Shield. It should be winging its way to you next week. Hopefully you'll get it in time for the new season. I'll post a new picture once you take one.
I will ask him when I wake up in the morning.
Cheers, mate. Thanks for the update.
That's that, then. The US safely through into the final on Wednesday. Lovely jubbly.
Nice chatting with you lads, tonight. Have a good rest of your weekends.
WAY HAY!!! The U.S. defeat the Ticos 2-0 and will play in the final Wednesday in Santa Clara, CA.
That's it! Mexico likely in another final on Wednesday. Until then chaps! Nightie-night.
Cheers, Bob and Steve. Great chatting with you . Wishing you a good night.
