Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Jose Walks the Plank!

Remember that whispered conversation behind a cupped hand between ManYoo chairman Ed Woodward and Old Trafford legend Bobby Charlton at Anfield on Sunday? Well, now we know what they were discussing. As of last night, Jose Mourinho was sacked and Michael Carrick has been appointed caretaker manager.

So, what next for United? They're 19 points off the top of the Premiership but are still in the last 16 of the Champions League. A Europa League spot for next year seems a real possibility, if someone can be brought in to steady the ship. So, who would you lot like to see come in as the new boss? Zidane? Potchetinno? Warnock?

Your thoughts, gents?

It's overdue. The queue of players who want out just evaporated too. Pogba must be the happiest of them.

What amazes me about Little Joe is that there are club bosses that give him 3-year contracts when he's a 18-month guy at best.

It's a bright day for United. Woodward and co can get around a table and see what it will take to get Zizou or Potch or someone who isn't club poison to take the helm and salvage something from this season.

Agreed. Pogba must be the crux of the issue. The board must have looked at the bench on Sunday and thought, "Okay, we've got a million pound player sitting on the bench and we're losing. Something doesn't add up."

Zizou is the obvious choice, if he wants to come. He's never played or managed in Britain, though, so he may not fancy it.

Agreed. This was long overdue. Jose was sacked on my birthday three years ago and the day after this year. Good riddance. Michael Carrick is supposedly in charge till the rend of the season. Not sure how United will do any better than the EL as he has no managerial experience. Zizou and Larry White seem to be the favorites to take over, but Mo Po is better fit since he has Prem experience and would have United play more entertaining football. Also agreed that Pogba was a key factor in his sacking. Wonder if we will now start to see the true Pogba.

Glad you specified that it was Woodward that sacked Jose because I would have picked Bernstein. So, Woodward and Bernstein nixed Nixon, but only Woodward nixed Jose. Sound about right?

As you can imagine, I am thrilled that Jose is out
I never wanted him at Old Trafford in the first place. He is negative and sour puss!!

The way he went out and criticized EVERYONE but HIMSELF was scandalous. He started the whole season saying it wasn't going to be a good season!

I don't care that United are so low in the table. I care that United are boring to watch!!
United need to go out and try and win EVERY game... they didn't go out to beat Derby, Young Boys, Wolves, Palace, Spurs, Southampton, Liverpool, City and everyone else!!

I don't like that people say that United fans are spoiled over SAF...yes...he won many trophies and played an attacking style. They had some stinkers but still that was not the norm!
Since WW2, United have been known to attack. Sir Matt brought up the Busby Babes and then the United Trinity.
Will McGuiness and Frank O'Farrell couldn't last. In came the Doc and United got relegated but came back up with a great attacking side. One of my favorite sides to watch. Pearson and Greenhoff, Hill and Coppell, Macari and McIlroy.
He lost his job after his affair with the phsyio's wife having won the FA Cup.
Dave Sexton came in and he didn't play the United way! He was fired at the end of the season even though they had won seven matches on the trot.... STYLE mattered.
Big Ron came in and played an attacking game.... IT WASN'T just SAF!

As for his replacement, there seems to be a caretaker to appointed until the summer

How long with Carrick be in charge?
Is Solskjaer coming in?
Is there any one of the Class of 92 be considered?
Giggs? Becks? Butt?

Will United go French with Blanc or ZZ?

Will they go for Mo Po? Would Mo Pol leave Spurs? They have a better side! They have a new stadium?
Is he good? Has he won anything?

Well put, UWS. Given that tradition, Woodward has to be careful to choose someone who will honor the United way of playing. Your last two managers haven't.

As to Potch, he may be getting frustrated with the Spursy way of doing things. They bought no one over the summer. The stadium is still a distant dream, while they're forced to play at Wembley. And let's be honest that United is a bigger side and a bigger job. United under different management and one or two additions to the playing staff have the chance to win the title and other silverware. Spurs don't.

Love it, MUR. Trust you to take this moment to frame Mourinho's sacking with a classic pun. Well in, sir!

It's Solskjaer! Great choice in the interim. Rid of Little Joe and a heroic return for a genuinely nice guy.

Ta, Bob. Just read about OGS being appointed interim managers of United. He should expect a hostile reception on Saturday on his return to the Welsh Capital where he had a dismal record in thirty matches in charge of Cardiff City. He's United legend as a player and hoping that he does better as interim manager than he did at Cardiff City.
