Hurrah, it's Saturday!
After a long workweek, there's nothing like a Premiership morning to soothe the nerves. First up, we've got title challenger Liverpool's road trip down south to Bournemouth. Then in the 10am hour, NBC has chosen to show us ManYoo v. Fulham. At the same time, I'll have ears to the ground for my beloved Leeds' fixture against QPR. Then later on we've got the big one - Chelski v. Citeh. And if you really need some extra footer, there's a late, late match at 2:45pm between Leicester v. Spurs. You know what to do - join me for the action, eh?
588 Comments:
NBC Spurts are doing one of their Fan Fests this morning. They're in St. Louis and they've got Alan Shearer alongside the usual crew of Rebecca Lowe, the Two Robbies and token American Kyle Martino.
Good morning, mate. Up to join you for a marathon day of footie . How have you been?
First up is Bournemouth v. Liverpool match-up on the south coast. Almost two years ago to the day, these sides served up an absolute thriller, with Bournemouth running out winners by the odd goal of seven. More recently, Liverpool won both Premier League encounters with Bournemouth comfortably, but seem unlikely to have it all their own way this afternoon against an attractive, attacking side that has turned plenty of heads this season.
One of the fan fests is at Molly Malone's in Louisville, KY.
NBC Sports have missed the usual tunnel action, but here are the teams now out on the pitch:
AFC Bournemouth: Begovic, Francis, Steve Cook, Ake, Daniels, Stanislas, Lerma, Surman, Fraser, Brooks, King.
Subs: Boruc, Pugh, Mousset, Ibe, Defoe, Rico, Mings.
Liverpool: Alisson, Fabinho, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson, Milner, Wijnaldum, Keita, Shaqiri, Salah, Firmino.
Subs: Mane, Henderson, Sturridge, Lallana, Mignolet, Origi, Alexander-Arnold.
Referee: Lee Mason (Lancashire)
We should start the day with an entertaining match for sure.
Morning, MUR - great to have you on board this morning. I'm doing well. It was a big push at work this week, as we head into the last two weeks of the semester, and Kate and I have a busy social schedule this weekend. But it's nice to settle in with a cuppa to watch some good stuff with you this morning.
Absolutely, mate - Liverpool need a win to keep up the pressure on Citeh who have a massive match later. We're away on the south coast.
Both sides are missing key players. Bournemouth are missing Callum Wilson and Lewis Cook and Liverpool are missing Sadio Mane and Joe Gomez.
They're off from the Vitality Stadium where a vital match is taking place.
Those are huge losses , especially for the Cherries and you will be disappointed as each side would have represented the LUFC Academy.
Jacquelyn and I , like you, have two weeks remaining. Melanie starts finals this week and should finish her semester by the end of the week,
Bob , you may be interested to note that the sole LUFC academy rep in this match is making his 500th Prem appearance. You must be proud.
Well, we've still got the Swiss Army knife Jamie Milner slotting in at right back for Liverpool today.
He's had an incredible career. I'll bet he's got 50 England caps as well.
Not sure., but he won quite a few England caps.
All a bit too intricate for Liverpool going forward. Bournemouth will be able to snuff that stuff out.
Key local Derby was played in the Championship yesterday between the Baggies and Villains. It finished Desmond thanks to a late equalizer from the Baggies,.
Now Pool win a free kick.Taken by Shaquiri, off the wall and out for a corner.
Difficult chance there for Salah on his weaker side.
A south American clash And Thomas Jefferson Lerma booked for a foul on Fabinho that the ref didn't think was so Fab
What did you think of the result yesterday?
That was a great result for us. If we can do the business against QPR and Bolton can get something off Norwich, we'll be back on top.
That would be great, but hard to see struggling Bolton getting anything off the Canaries, who last weekend, became the last football league team to have English goal scorers.
Any guesses to the quiz question I asked you on my FB post?
Without Wilson, Bournemouth are not offering much of an attacking threat. It's just a matter of whether Liverpool can break them down.
Begovic pushes away a cross then Brooks blocks from Keita for a Pool corner.
Sorry, I've just seen it. It looks as if Fred is headed toward your keyboard or is perhaps going to play with your mouse?
Not a great LUFC Academy player on Stanislaus , who's quite his junior.
Rare Cherries attack and Allison pushes around a near post effort from David Brooks off a pass from Charlie Daniels.
Corner headed out and shot over by Andrew Surman. Pool players would have received quite a sermon from Klopp if that had gone in.
LOL! He loves chasing mice, but I caught him seconds before he arrived at his napping spot. He started from the living room couch
GOAL! Salah knocks in a rebound after Begovic had parried Firming's effort.
GOAL !!!SALAH GIVES POOL A DESERVED LEAD WITH A GREAT FINISH
I think Begovic should be holding on to that one. But Salah was alive to the chance, and perhaps a touch offside. By the reaction, I thought he'd had the effort flagged off, but it will count.
0-1 Pool.
Now then. The Cherries' match plan was to contain Liverpool. What's their Plan B?
It all started with a throw from the LUFC academy player. After several short, aimless looking passes. A long ball played out of the back found Salah, who passed to Bobby F. His shot from just outside the box was fumbled by Begovic and Salah easily put away the rebound.
Stanislaus is a rather junior deputy for Callum Wilson. LUFC Academy should be able to handle him.
The Cherries may stick to that plan, feeling that they're only a goal behind and hope to tie it up on the break. May change if they go two down.
LOL, mate! he sure was cleaned out by Milner, who's quite his senior.
Wonder if UWS is at one of the fan fests in the Big Apple.
Wee Ryan wins a Cherries corner off a tackle on Bobby F. Corner headed out by Van Dyke and Stanilslaus with a long range effort deflected for another corner. Headed on by Ake and out for a goal kick.
Oh - Nathan Ake had a chance there at the back post but the ball just got away from him.
The weather has gone downhill at the match as it's windy and rainy. That doesn't sound like Blighty does it?
Is UWS in NYC again this weekend?
Andrew Surman battles his way to a Cherries corner as the fans applaud the Cherries effort.
Not sure. Thought he might be since he's not here chatting with us. Perhaps a wee bit of extra kip .
Andy Robertson wins a corner off of David Brooks.
The corner from the LUFC Academy carried by the win and curled straight to Begovic.
Josh King down after he was caught by Allison, who headed away a poor back pass.
Into stoppage time. A duet of those minutes, sung by Bob and David.
The Cherries one up at the half. This one could go either way
Nice move with interplay between Salah and Firmino to end the half. And that's it. Liverpool go in 0-1 up, albeit through a controversial goal. But well deserved, regardless - they've been the only side who's come to play.
Sorry, a typo. Pool one up at the half.
Liverpool get us underway again at the Vitality. No changes to either side as yet.
Second half underway from The Vitality
Just a reminder that at 10 AM , it's United vs the Cottagers on NBCSN and the Gunners vs the Terriers on CNBC
GOAL! Mo Salah adds a second goal with a nice solo effort!
GOAL !!!!SALAH SCORES HIS AND POOL'S SECOND WITH A TRADEMARK FINISH
Poor defending there from the Cherries. Nathan Ake got burned badly by Salah.
0-2 Liverpool!
Steve Cook was off on the ingredients with the Cherries Jubilee as he coughed up the ball and it broke to Salah, who went on a sol run and scored with a well placed finish despite being tightly marked by Ake.
I blame Steve Cook for under cooking the Cherries Jubilee, mate. Coughing up possession is not one of the ingredients.
Josh King wanted a penalty for what was supposedly a trip by Alison. Never a penalty
Two big shouts for penalties from Bournemouth - Lee Mason not best impressed.
Steve Cook feels roasted and baked as he's down injured. Looks like his foot was accidentally trodden on.
Play resumes and Steve Cook seems to be fit enough to continue . sounds like recipe for success.
At the very least, the Cherries are starting to come out of their shells and play a bit now.
Oh - Salah nearly on the end of that Robertson center. I wouldn't bet against him scoring a hat-trick here today.
Nice interplay by Pool then Salah offside as he received a scooped pass, but volleyed well over with just Begovic to beat
By my count, one more goal for Salah today would put him level with Aubama at the top of the goalscoring charts. That would mean some points to PPP participants.
Liverpool really playing well now - some champagne football for the Vitality crowd.
I think I would be one of those. The Saint would not be pleased.
Champagne does go well with Cherries Jubilee.
Klopp to make a double substitution. Mane for Shaquiri and Lallana for Keita. My Howe the Cherries need change as Mousset is on for David Brooks.
Junior Stanislaus wins a Cherries corner.
GOAL !!!!A RECIPE FOR DISASTER AS STEVE COOK SCORES AN EMBARRASSING OG TO PUT POOL THREE UP.
GOAL! Mane, the supersub, adds a third and Liverpool are cruising it.
Nope - on the replay, it's a cracking own goal.
The Cherries have a free kick chance now.
Decent effort from the Junior but Alsson is equal to it.
The recipe for disaster was not just the OG , but the poor Cherries defensive back headers off their own corner. It eventually broke to Salah , who played a nice cross field pass to Robertson, who played it back to Lallana , who played it to Fabinho, who played it wide left to Robertson and his pass was Cooked in for an OG to put Pool three up.
The atmosphere is quite flat at the Vitality Stadium now, where the shouts of players and managers can be heard clearly over the capacity crowd.
Not a FAB tackle on Thomas Jefferson Lerma as Fabinho is booked.
Liverpool doing their GD some good but they're still an astonishing 12 goals behind Citeh's pace. Wow!
This one is done and dusted for Pool, who can now start preparing for the vital CL match vs Napoli.
Mousset well offside as he scored with a cracking finish , but it's disallowed.
Off to make Kate some brekkies.
Is that Pink Champagne on ice for Pool?
Cheers, mate. Hope she is doing well ahead of a trip to OT
GOAL !!!! A HAT-TRICK FOR SALAH AS HE PUTS POOL FOUR UP. TOOK FOREVER TO GET A SHOT OFF, BUT IT EVENTUALLY WENT IN.
GOAL! Superb solo effort from Salah for his hat-trick!
0-4!
A nightmare half for Steve Cook. Second pool goal that started with an LUFC academy throw then Cook beaten for pace and strength by Salah off a routine long ball from Fabinho. He then rounded Begovic, took and age to shoot as he teed up his shot and got it off just in time as the Cherries players just failed to get back in time.
Final roll of the dice from Klopp and adding defensive solidity in midfield as Hendo is on for Bobby F
Tyrone Mings on for Junior Stanislaus and Rico on for Charlie Daniels on the final rolls of the dice from Eddie Howe
Seconds before the substitutions, there was some rare nice inter play by the Cherries as Charlie Daniels had a long range effort that was just high and wide.
Lallana wins a corner off of Simon Fancis after some nice inter play
Wijnaldum , with a free header heads wide off a cross from Andy Robertson off a short corner.
Adam Lallana is in the wars already with a massive head wound.
Back from the loo as there's a stoppage in play.
That's why there's a stoppage . Talk about shedding blood for the cause.
Lallana will need a couple of stitches then as he comes off holding his head.
Play resumes. Should be at least half a dozen minutes of stoppage time.
Five minutes of stoppage time to come - Lallana still getting patched up.
A quintet of stoppage time minutes , which can't end soon enough for both teams.
Lallana with a ton of vasoline, back on.
Lallana comes back on wearing a generic shirt. No head-wrap as of yet; just some ointment.
Travelling Pool fans in full voice, singing their club song.
Kevin Friend , the fourth official, behind the two Cherries bosses, who are not feeling too friendly at the moment.
Kate is appalled by all of the trash on the pitch. Not a fan of the Vitality Stadium grounds crew.
it's over as Pool thrash the Cherries, scoring four without reply.
That's that, then. A really impressive 0-4 win for Liverpool. Citeh have gotten all of the plaudits this season but the Reds have quietly kept up the pace with them and are temporarily top of the pops until this afternoon.
Off to take Sparky walkies on a cool dreary morning ahead of the 10 AM matches.
Really fun moment there between the Mumford and Sons and Robbie Earle. They're big Wimbledon fans and they showed the classic Beckham half-way line goal, with Becks picking the ball off Robbie.
Next up are the 10am kickoffs. No love for the Leeds boys, so I'll be watching the two matches that NBC are favoring us with.
Teams in the tunnel now:
Man Utd: de Gea, Dalot, Jones, Smalling, Young, Matic, Ander Herrera, Rashford, Mata, Lingard, Lukaku. Subs: Pogba, Rojo, Fred, Romero, Shaw, Fellaini, McTominay.
Fulham: Sergio Rico, Odoi, Ream, Mawson, Bryan, Seri, Zambo, Schurrle, Cairney, Ryan Sessegnon, Mitrovic. Subs: Bettinelli, Kebano, Johansen, Vietto, Christie, Cisse, Kamara.
Referee: Lee Probert.
We're about ready to get going now at Old Trafford and the Emirates. Off we go!
They're off from OT . Then from the EM about twenty seconds later
UWS had posted a trivia question a few years ago about the fixture at OT
MOT!
Welcome back, mate - how was your walkies?
Swans sting the Bess with an early goal at the Hive.
Walkies went pretty ell. Thank you for asking. It's on the one year anniversary of what Harlingen event?
Swindon smoking Newport with an early goal half a dozen days after being dumped out of the Cup by Woking
Jayne Mansfield defeated struggling Notts county 2-0 earlier today.
Dangerous looking cross there by Yashley - cleared out.
Richard Burton playing the lead role in the Taming of the Shrew as they take the lead.
Looks like a rainy old day in Blighty.
Bradford City in the lead at Argyle socks in a relegation six pointer.
That's rare for Blighty isn't it mate?
Celtic take the lead vs Killie , replacing Killie at the top of the table.
Bob will be pleased that the Tigers have take the lead at the Evil Lions in a relegation six pointer.
Palace take the lead at the Hammers. MacArthur with the goal, assisted by former Hammer, James Thomkins
The Cottagers win a corner.
Luv it!
Donny Trump takes the lead at Bristol Palin Rovers . Michael Palin says that's not idle gossip.
GOAL! What a strike from Yashley!
UWS will be pleased that Pompey have taken the lead vs Southend. Posh take the lead vs the Oxford Shoes.
GOAL !!!YASH GIVES UNITED THE LEAD.
UWS will be pleased to see that United attacked with pace . Rash played it wide left to Yash, who played the ball off of Cottagers defender,Dennis Odoi and scored with a cracker of a shot in the upper 90
Argyle Sweater ties it up vs Bradford City
Lossl, with the speed of a Terrier , rushes out to gather a Gunners through ball that was an attacking threat.
Tangerines take the lead vs Charlton.
Hearts take the lead vs Motherwell.
United win a corner that is headed out then have a cross headed out for another.
Luton take the lead vs Fleetwood Mac because Stevie Nicks went to Bedfordshire while Coventry take the lead at Wasall.
abe Lincoln takes the lead at Stevenage
Oldham takes the lead at Motley Crewe.
Morning Boys
I'm finally seated in front of the telly and on the blog
Had a busy morning today
Took Shadow for a walking the Frozen Tundra of ENYS. I then drove Kathy up to Saratoga...where his horse naturally won... for her to go shopping with friends. Finally got home and had to go to the loo...and that's when Ashley Young scored
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
United attacking again and a close range rocket from Yash blocked for a United corner
Boro behind at home to Rovers
United attacking the Stretford End in the first half!
Good Morning , UWS. Great time to warm up.
Boreham Wood defeated the Orient Express 1-0. Chesterfield lead Salford 1-0 as do Aldershot at Harrogate and Wrexham vs Eastleigh. Advantage Wrexham
Derby have taken the lead at Wigan, where the home side are also a man down. Not good for us.
Morning, UWS - welcome!
Swans two up at the Bees. Bob will not be pleased that the Lions have tied it up vs the Tigers
United do seem to be going forward... pleased to see it
Midweek, 2-2 with Arsenal.. all United did was defend!
Great tackle by Dallot
Nice Carly Simon reference, btw.
Celtic two up vs Killie, whom they have replaced at the top of the table.
Bradford City now lead 1-2 at Argyle.
Was listenig to talkSport a couple of days ago and they were talking to some bookie.... Leeds are ODDS ON to be be promoted!
Pompey leading!
United are all over these mugs - Fulham are definitely for the drop this season. Despite Ranieri, they're pants.
Morecambe and Wise in the lead vs Port Vale.
Oh Dear.....Leeds behind!
Swansea 3 up
I like the sound of that bookie prediction, mate. We have been in the top six all season. Just saying....
WAY HAY ! JUST A MATA OF TIME BEFORE UNITED WERE GOING TWO UP.
TWO NIL UNITED!!
MATA WITH A SWEET FINISH
Why don't we play like this all the time!!!!
NOW SCORE FOUR OR FIVE
Breaking news....United have a positive goal difference... +1
Nice move through Rashford who pulled it back well. Mata scuffed the finish a bit but it still went in the corner. His 50th in the Premier League.
Sorry about your United
Bugger! I don't like the sound of that!
Leeds losing to their 3rd Round opponents
It started with a tackle by Jones on Mitrovic. Several passes later, Rash , passed to the Chunk, who passed for Mata to side foot home.
United getting some crosses in the box
United getting players in the box
Sorry, Bob. MOT!
come on Leeds ! tie it up!
CONGRATS, UWS! Pompey two up vs Southend.
A wag on the Guardian pod has notice the crazy line-up of names for the Arsenal this afternoon:
Arsenal: Leno, Lichtsteiner, Mustafi, Papastathopoulos, Bellerin, Guendouzi, Torreira, Xhaka, Kolasinac, Aubameyang, Lacazette. Subs: Cech, Elneny, Koscielny, Mkhitaryan, Iwobi, Monreal, Nketiah.
Yeah - not good for us - we need three points against these mugs today. And a win in the 3rd Round.
Colchster in the lead vs bottom club, Macclesfiled as are Cheltenham vs Grimsby.
A defeat vs the Brolly's lads not part of the plan.
The Solihull Moors take the lead on the plastic pitch. May be the Gunners opponents in the Third Round. The Moors might . Sutton were a few years ago in a different round.
Why is Young still just playing full back
He was bought and could be playing as a middie/wing
Cottagers playing like Schurrle Temple , heading out for a United corner and the Chunk with that type of header off the corner.
He's been converted into a fullback because he's lost a step, no?
I was on my phone and Sirri told me United wona free kick because they were fouled. Also told that a Cottagers player was booked.
OH!!! A super b free kick from Rash was turned around superbly by Sergio Rico
Bit of handbags at the Emirates - Williams picks up a yellow card for a rash one. And Liechsteiner gets one for getting involved in the ruck.
St. Helen Mirren on top at Livingston in a match between the two newly promoted clubs/.
Celtic killing Killie as they go three up.
Morecambe and Wise two up vs Port Vale.
Burnley take a much needed lead against Brighton
I'm pleased how United are playing but it is against the bottom club
Shouldn't Steve McClaren be the "Wally" not the "Brolly?" The brolly is just his accessory. In any case, I hope we can rain on his parade today. Boom boom!
Sokratis anything but philosophical as he's booked for a horrible tackle.
THREE NIL
GREAT GOAL BY UNITED
FAST PASSING!!
WAY HAY! THE CHUNK PUTS UNITED THREE UP.
WAHAY! Lukaku gets his goal. 3-0! If only you could play Fulham every week, eh?
Killie were top!!
It was small of a one two off a short corner as the ball was played across the box and it was an easy far post tap in for The Chunk
This is when United do need to win by SIX
They cannot just sit back and be happy with the scoreline
While watching the United goal, I was reading Lacazette and read that the Gunners had a goal disallowed.
Apparently, the Baggies 90th minute equalizer last night against the Villa was a DOUBLE handball!
