If It's Tuesday, this Must be Pandemic Footie!
I'm just home from work and looking forward to settling in for a Tuesday Premier league double-header of some consequence. It's all about relegation today as Watford host Citeh and then Villa host Arsenal. Both Watford and Villa will be desperate for points, so there could be some fireworks on offer.
Join me for the afternoon, won't you?

Hey boys
I am here and there today
I will join in if there is a lot of chatter on here
Just sent you two an article
Good Afternoon, Bob. Thanks for getting us started. Looking forward to chatting today
Good Afternoon, Dave. hanks for the article. I'm getting ready to read it
I am in the semi final of my fantasy footer for this week!
I won the last 7 matches and ended up as #1 seed. The top two seeds had a bye....We are both losing to the 5th and 6th seeds....BLOODY PLAYOFFS
I am losing to Tom with a four games to go
I am behind 50.75 to 15.5.... He has four players left and I have TEN. He has B Silva, Noble, ObiWan and Mane
I have LaPorte and Ederson today
Tomorrow I have TAA, VD, Ox for Pool and Maguire, Bruno, Martial and Greenwood for United... and Dec Rice
FINGERS CROSSED!
Afternoon David
With all that said ... I am actually rooting for City and Liverpool big time!!!
I need a clean sheet from Ederson and LaPorte
I'd like to see B Silva get yanked after ten minutes!
Clean sheets for United and Liverpool too
Of course, I want Watford to go down!
Wearing my Asterisk shirt today
Teams coming out at Vicarage Road
Come on City!
Afternoon, chaps - I've just finished a delicious pasta salad lunch and am settling into my favorite easy chair for the matches. Bring them on!
Welcome Bob
The team news out of Vicarage Road:
Watford: Foster, Mariappa, Kabasele, Dawson, Femenia, Cleverley, Doucoure, Hughes, Sarr, Deeney, Pereyra.
Subs: Gomes, Welbeck, Masina, Chalobah, Cathcart, Joao Pedro, Gray, Quina, Pussetto.
Manchester City: Ederson, Walker, Eric Garcia, Laporte, Joao Cancelo, De Bruyne, Rodri, Bernardo Silva, Foden, Gabriel Jesus, Sterling.
Subs: Stones, Gundogan, Zinchenko, Silva, Mendy, Fernandinho, Mahrez, Otamendi, Carson.
Referee: Michael Oliver (Northumberland).
We are off at VR... I've been there once. I went with the Flynns....owners of Safepac..... to see Watford play Spurs
Last two matches between thsese lot...Watford 0 City 14
Keep an eye on goal difference today. Watford are currently at -23 while Villa are at -27. If Citeh were to run up a cricket score, it could really open the door for Villa.
Away we go officially!
We're away at VR.
I think Bournemouth a big chance. The way they have been playing, I can see them win at Goodison on Sunday
They're off from VR
Triple header of matches tomorrow
We start off with Man U vs West Ham at 1, at 2:30 are the Championship matches and then Liverpool v Chelsea at 3:15
Plus are showing two matches at 2:30
The two promotion matches
Brentford vs Barnsley
West Brom v QPR
Pep is better dressed than he was at Wembley
I would like Watford to go down, but think Villa and the Cherries will
A Shame Plus won't show Leeds lifting the trophy
City vs Norwich on the last day... is anyone going to watch that one
I see that the matches on the last day are on a few channels and Peacock.... and Gold hopefully
I'm watching the Foxes vs United. not sure what else.
Oh - Rodri let fly and Foster had to tip around off a deflection.
EL games are on CBS All Access...what happened to Bleacher and TNT
Ben Foster did well to tip over a long range deflected shot
Yikes. Not sure if I have that channel
Some places it says that match is on Golf channel(I don't have the Golf Channel) Other websites say TBA
I used to have it but it changed to an upgrade
I should be able to watch the EL on some of the Spanish language channels if CBS ALL Access doesn't pan out
I was looking at the NBCSN website and it had Burn/Bright match on 9 but that can't be right...all game are on at 11
I think we have the Golf channel, but not sure
My guide on my DVR is all TBA
Surely Leicester V United will be one of the main games to be put on NBC or NBCSN
Citeh are obviously bossing this one but, for all their pretty triangles, they aren't really getting close to Foster's goal. Watford holding their shape pretty well.
Bloody Pep!
Modern Day corner....geez
I think I get Golf Channel, as well. Never watch it, of course.
I was watching some of the Orlando Philly MLS game last night
Nani was delivering some really dangerous corners!
The MLS doesn't have all this possession crap
I'd watch it... Used to love watch it around the Majors
Own pace....walking pace
Just because I know that Dave wants this information, City have enjoyed 83 percent possession so far.
Every game is the same!!
I really don't know why I watch
GRRRRR
I'd rather watch the squirrels in the backyard.
Sterling tries to line up a shot but Cleverboy gets in the way.
Time for a drink or two. Lovely.
Not good here by City
The ONE time I want them to win!!
They better win AND get a clean sheet!
Your old boy Cleverboy is about the most quality that Watford have on hand. He tries an ambitious one from distance. Well off the mark.
Come on LaPorte...head one in
GOAL! What a rocket from Sterling!
One nil
Great finish from Sterling....what a surprise
That goal will give Villa and Bournemouth some hope. Watford now on 34 points and -24 GD. Bournemouth have already played their 37th match, so they'd be relegated if Bournemouth get anything.
I'd like to see a few more of those kinds of finishes from Razza in an England shirt. He gets into some great positions but then blows the chances on the international stage.
Oh - Foden nearly dribbled through the entire Watford defense. Can't wait to see him play for the senior England side.
Citeh have a penalty now! Hughes upending Sterling.
VAR checking it now - it looked a clearcut foul.
So, Sterling to take....
Off the bar and then follows up with a tap in. Very, very lucky boy.
Sorry - it was a save from Foster, rather than off the bar. In either case, mark Sterling as another player who shouldn't be taking penalties for England. That was rubbish.
Hoeberg(sp?) is moving from Southampton to Everton
It had to be a save.... Sterling couldn't have scored the rebound if Foster didn't touch it
KDB had scored the last four pens for City...why change!
Is that right? You can't follow up if it hits the woodwork. I did not know that. Learn things every day, eh?
I agree - KDB is a much better penalty taker. Shame he isn't English.
Watford now on -25 GD as we reach the break.
The GD is for the three teams are
Watford -25
Villa -27
Bourn -27
The GD is impossible for Watford to survive!
If they don't get a point... it would be curtains Bournemouth win
Bournemouth winning means they would go up at least 1
Watford losing means they would got down at least 1
Bournemouth have scored more goals
That has always been the case
If you touch the ball off the post...you've touched a free kick twice in succession....illegal
We are off
Are Watford have the same kind of half as they did at West Ham
City go close twice inside 30 seconds
We're off in the second half now - Sterling with an early effort that Foster palms away.
again... no one is saying this so am I wrong
GD is already a foregone conclusion.
The only way for Bournemouth to catch Watford is for them to win and Wford to lose... the GD would take care of itself right then and there! Doesn't matter how many they concede now!
Villa do have two games that they could win one and lose one and the goals in each of those matter
Should have been a pen
I don't understand your point about GD, Dave. Bournemouth have already played a game more. They're virtually down anyway. The GD issue is more likely to be with Villa.
Back for the second half after we had a friend visit and having lunch. I saw both goals
Can anyone really say that Watford would be doing worse today if Nigel Pearson were still on the bench? What a silly decision.
I just read the comments. Dave is correct. If the Cherries win at Goodison on Sunday , the Hornets lose at the EM , and Villa fail to defeat the Gunners or the Hammers then the Cherries are safe
No
If Bournemouth win at Everton...they will have 34 points and will be at least one better than -27 because they won
If Watford lose, they will be on on 34 and will have less that -25 because they lost.
If it is only a 1 change for both...they would be equal and Bournemouth have scored more
Hornets lost 6-0 in the Cup final with Javi Gracia, lost 8-0 with Quique Sanchez-Flores and losing today with Hayden Mullins. Nigel Pearson never got a chance to face Citeh as Hornets boss
Well, that's all true but those are a lot of ifs. My point here is that if Citeh rack up a couple of more goals here, which seems fairly likely the way this one is going, then Villa have a big, big chance of staying up. A simple win over the Gunners today and they'd be out of the relegation zone. Then it would just be a matter of matching whatever Watford and Bournemouth do on the last day.
The only snag is that Arsenal have been in good form, but Villa should go out at home and attack Arsenal looking for the win.
The Cherries need Villa to fail to win in addition to what you stated to finish out of the bottom three Sunday
How on earth are Bournemouth going to win at Goodison Park? They're in terrible form and Everton just won at Wolves yesterday. That's a big ask for them.
Well Villa have to get at least a win at home to Arsenal and away at West Ham
Bournemouth need a win at Everton
Watford need to lose
If Villa or Bournemouth win... then Watford are down...regardles off goal dif except if Villa win but also lose by a boatload
It's not in Arteta's nature to let the Gunners relax. I think they will take the match seriously. Villa could get something at the Hammers. That will be the key in addition to the Cherries having to win
KDB is a chance from a free kick now.
Oh - good hit from KDB but pushed over by Foster. He's keeping the score down at least.
Bournemouth have not been in terrible form since half time of the Leicester match
The outscored the Foxes 4-0 in the second half
Went to City and by all accounts should have least gotten a draw. They thought they had scored the equalizer against Southampton
Everton have been crap until yesterday
Three nil
GOAL! Foden taps in #3 and Watford are now at -26 GD.
Bournemouth have lost three of the last five matches. They're 19th for a reason.
I just think there's more likelihood of Villa getting more points out of a home match against Arsenal and an away match with West Ham than there is for Bournemouth to get something out of one away match against Everton.
My prediction is that it's down to either Watford or Villa. Bournemouth are toast.
I think Bournemouth will stay up
If Villa win today... then they will be out of the bottom 3 but still could go back in with a loss at the Hammers
I saw the goal while doing diaper duty . Sterling will be credited for the assist, but KDB should get credit for that brilliant pass to Sterling
Four nil....and my player scores!!
GOAL !!!LAPORTE HEADS IN A FREE KICK FROM KDB
Laporte adds #4 and now Watford's GD advantage has vanished. Villa have a real chance!
18 goals and counting to nil in the last 2.5 games between these two
Nigel Pearson must be having a quiet laugh to himself at home watching this shambles.
If we shop Kiko Casilla this summer, which I hope we do, Ben Foster would be a neat replacement.
How are you doing now on the Fantasy League, Dave?
Am I wrong about the GD?
The Two minute timeout is too little, too late for Hayden Mullins and Co.
Finally they agree with me!!
You are correct about being out scored 18-0
I don't see the Hornets winning at the EM on Sunday. They've thrown in the towel
Like for like as John Stones is on for LaPorte
Citeh look like they're just playing for fun now - having a bit of kick about.
GD.... is really moot now except if Villa get a win but also get walloped
Long range effort from Phil Foden is several feet over
I think you are, Dave. I don't know why you think Bournemouth have a better chance than Villa who have two matches to play.
That's correct, Dave. If the Cherries and/or Villa win then the Hornets will need at least a draw at the EM, which is a tough ask for this side , who have basically ended their season
I am losing 64.75 to 29... I hope to get two clean sheets from LaPorte and Ederson...so hopefully I will improve in 13 minutes
Tom will have Obiwan, Noble and Mane to play
I will have TAA, Mags, VD, Bruno, Ox, Rice, Martial and Greenwood
Fingers crossed
After Villa vs Arsenal ends we will have a much clearer picture
that was save... 31
Wellie done by Ederson as the keeper rushed out to block at the feet of Wellie
No - GD could still come into play if Villa get a draw today and a win against the Hammers on Sunday and Watford get a point against Arsenal on Sunday. They'd both be on 35 points.
Ok... I am basing my GD on Watford losing
Good point
Phil Foden held back by Mariappa a foot outside the box and the Hornets defender booked for that
I dont think they will get anything at the Em
In that scenario the Cherries are relegated even if they win at Goodison
I just heard that the Hornets' website crashed this week after the firing of Pearson
Who is my favorite Pearson?
Anything can happen on the last day of the season.
I don't either. Villa might get something at the Hammers
My money is Bournemouth
They win one
Watford lose one
Villa don't win in two
I'm not surprised - it's got to be the stupidest decision of the season. They've had three bloody managers!
I'm surprised that there haven't been calls for the owner to be tossed out.
I don't think the Hornets will get anything at the EM because they;re defense has more holes than Swiss cheese
It's four managers if you count Hayden Mullins. Point taken. That's too many managers in a season
There's always the Sideshow Bob factor. If he's off his meds that day, you never know what he'll do.
That Saar was a foul on KDB
I think we had one season with three managers, if memory services. I shudder at the memory of those years.
That's true Bob about your fellow Bob
If the Hornets survive then surely they must be one of the favorites for relegation next season
Citeh out shooting the Hornets 25-3. Not exactly a surprise
Rodri fouls Will Hughes
I really can't have B Silva to score or Watford to score
Am I bad rooting against my own son???
Not at all; he's a big boy.
Into stoppage time. A Barber Shop Quartet of those minutes to match the number of goals Citeh have scored
LOL. Good point, Bob
Jesus pops another in the net but he's ruled offside.
Jesus scores with a great header off a great cross, but it's disallowed for offside
Full-time - Well, Citeh have teed it up for Villa now. It should make the next match really interesting.
It's over at VR and Citeh sting the Hornets for a Barber shop quartet without reply
Agreed. The relegation battle has become rather interesting
The team news out of Villa Park:
Aston Villa: Reina; Elmohamady, Konsa, Mings, Targett; McGinn, Luiz, Hourihane; Trezeguet, Samatta, Grealish
Subs: Nyland, Guilbert, Hause, Nakamba, Lansbury, Jota, Lansbury, Davis, Vassilev
Arsenal: Martinez; Holding, David Luiz, Kolasinac; Soares, Ceballos, Torreira, Saka; Nkettiah, Lacazette, Aubammeyang
Subs: Macey, Bellerin, Tierney, SOkratis, Matiland-Niles, Willock, Smith, Xhaka, Pepe
Mikel Arteta has made six changes to the side that humbled Citeh in the FA Cup at the weekend.
Kate is really not a fan of Jack Grealish. She thinks that he thinks that "he's all that." LOL!
I agree with Kate. Grealish is a good player, but needs to improve his work rate to be great
The Gunners Will be two points out of a top seven spot, behind their North London rivals, if they win . Plenty to play for
Strange that the Gunners are having a big say in the relegation battle.
They're off from Villa Park
We're away in this crucial fixture.
Wonder what Kate would say about Grealish at Spurs. Playing for Jose in battle of the egos
Is there a blimp flying over Villa Park? I'm hearing a strange buzzing sound.
LOL! That will be quite a spectacle.
Cross from El Mohhamedy headed well over by John McGinn
Pepe Reina is unable to prevent s corner off a powerful back pass. Volley blocked off the corner from Ceballos
El Mohammedy down for Villa with what appears to be a thigh strain
El Mohammedy is trying to run off whatever knock he's picked up.
He continues, but for how long?
The Guardian blog has supplied an answer to my earlier question. Apparently there was a plane flying overhead trailing a banner that read "Back Arteta, Kroenke Out."
Good question, mate - it looked like a hammy to me.
Will Steve agree with that banner?
The pace of this game has dropped a lot since the bubbly start. The onus is on Villa to make something happen but there being patient about it.
It hasn't been the most exciting start to this match
I think he probably would.
Cedric the Entertainer wins a Gunners corner. The corner didn't reach it's Targett as it was headed away by the first man. Then the Gunners win another corner taken short
Saka wins a corner off of El Mohammedy
I am back from walkies...surprise surprise....nil nil
Cedric really isn't much of an entertainment, now is he?
Poor corner by Ceballos easily cleared
One in off the bum and Villa are out of the drop zone. It could happen. Arsenal don't look that fussed today.
Welcome back, Dave. You didn't really miss anything
Now it's the two minute timeout
We've reached the drinks break without a breakthrough. Elmohamedy is somehow continuing.
Play resumes. Like for like s Guilbert is on for thew injured El Mohammedy
ONE NIL VILLA!!
Great strike....they are out of the drop zone!!
GOAL! Villa score and it's all up for grabs!
John McGinn wins a corner . It's taken and
GOAL !!!TREZEGUET SCORES OFF THE CORNER TO GIVE VILLA THE LEAD WITH A GREAT FINISH
Huge goal for Villa there - they're on -26 GD now. Crucial.
Tyrone Mings concedes a free kick to the Gunners
So, if it stays like this... Villa would probably just need a point at West Ham
Cedric the Entertainer plays it short and Ceballos has a shot land in Row U
They still won't be safe if they win
A loss on Sunday with a Watford draw or Bournemouth win
That would be enough to keep Villa up unless the Hornets win at the EM
Jack Grealish wins a free kick about 35 yard s from goal
Torreira booked for a foul on Tyrone Mings
Torreira picks up the first yellow card for a chippy one.
Even 5Live says this is a dull game
It's hard when these dull games occur in the middle of the afternoon in this July heat. It makes one drowsy
Cross from Grealish headed by Trezeguet straight to Martinez
Eddie goes past Targett then wins a corner
oooh...that looked close by Grealish
Jack Grealish with a long range effort not too far off on a Villa break
not as close as I thought
Oh - nearly a second goal there from a quick break and then fancy pants Grealish let fly. Not too far away.
A Barber Shop Quartet of stoppage time minutes
I'm with you, David - it's easy to drop off now and again.
A correction . An LOB blogging trio of stoppage time minutes
Villa is one up at the half
we are off
Will Villa hold on?
Arteta brings on Xakha Khan in the hopes that the Gunners can sing to the tune of a victory as the second half is underway
Villa win a corner off of Kolasinac
