THE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
July 11th, 2021.....England.....our England will play in a major final for the first time in 55 years!!! I am still in a kind of haze since Wednesday! I still cannot believe it but it is very much deserved! England vs Italy is a dream final for me and especially for my dear brother Tony. He would have absolutely been in dreamland for this final....I like to think he actually had something to do with it! I would like to think he would love to have his little brother enjoy the win!
COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!!

Morning, Dave - thanks for getting us going.
Bloody hell! England are in a major final! I'm enjoying a bit of Wimpleton during my morning routine to get me in the mood. I'll be back around 2pm to enjoy the build up.
Rumor has it that Trip is going to replace Saka in the team to play a 3-4-3 formation
In Southgate We Trust
Good afternoon, Bob and Dave. Great post , Dave. First time on the LOB since the Round of Sixteen.I'm in in dreamland too. Can't believe it.
COME ON ENGLAND!
Great picture from OT, Dave
Djokovic has just defeated the Italian Berettini in four sets at Wimpleton. I hope the Italians have another losing effort this evening.
Of course....it really is a 5-3-2
One down.... 26 more tonight !!
Thanks David
COME ON ENGLAND!
Nice one , Bob. I second that.
When England won the WC I think there were similar complains about England's performance in the group stages that also included a 0-0 draw. also conceded their first goal in the semis , also in a 2-1 win. Not exactly the same this time, but similar. A good sign?
The England bus is on the way to Wemberley!
I am watching the preview of the final from an ESPN show that was on last night
Ian Darke is on a boat with TT
and Stewart Robson is at Wembley Way with Kelly Cates
I hope that is not the duo of the match
So many of EPSN people are anti-English...especially the Welsh and Scots
Agreed. I can tolerate Ian Dark, but not TT.
The teams
Italy: Donnarumma, Di Lorenzo, Bonucci, Chiellini, Emerson, Barella, Jorginho, Verratti, Chiesa, Immobile, Insigne.
Subs: Sirigu, Locatelli, Belotti, Berardi, Pessina, Acerbi, Cristante, Bernardeschi, Bastoni, Florenzi, Toloi, Meret.
England: Pickford, Walker, Stones, Maguire, Trippier, Phillips, Rice, Shaw, Mount, Sterling, Kane.
Subs: Grealish, Henderson, Rashford, Ramsdale, Mings, Coady, Sancho, Calvert-Lewin, Johnstone, James, Saka, Bellingham.
Referee: Bjorn Kuipers (Holland).
The three that miss out from the 26 are Foden(injured), Chillwell and White
ESPN 2 about to start a pre-game show before it goes over to ESPN at 2:30
So many people around Wembley Stadium!!
ESPN have been playing the commentary from other countries when showing highlights of goals....how about playing BBC/ITV commentary too!
I have a horrible feeling that TT is going to be in the booth
Last night Argentina won the Copa America...their first major title for 25 years....the second longest gap between major titles....behind a certain 55 years
I do too. TT sure hasn't earned it. How about Ian Darke and Stu Robson?
Well done Argies. Hard to believe it's been that long for them
I hope it is those two but during that show I just watched...Darke and TT were on a boat together on the Thames
Fans struggling to get into the stadium because of so many ticketless fans outside of the stadium
I like Macca and Del Piero in the studio. Great analysts and they match the countries in the final,
No non-English pundit on ESPN has picked England
A quiz question. What is true about me today that was true in the 1966 final?
Hiya, guys! I'm settling in now and enjoying the pre-game show on ESPN+. The channel still have the Wimpleton Mixed Doubles.
Not surprised . It seems like Italy is being picked as favorites die to that thirty three match run. What do the bookies say?
They have the Euro pre-game show on the deuce until 2:30 then it switches to ESPN
Welcome back, Bob
I don't like the line up that much
The Italians back line doesn't like pace... taking out Saka and moving Walker away from the flank
I agree. The one thing the Italians lack is pace . Why not test it?
I am doing the same as David
Any guesses on the quiz question?
The Red Arrows will make an appearance before kick off
I don't like the 3 at the back....with 3 up front for the Italians
Kyle Walker is not really a central defender and always seems to have a mistake in him. Trippier lacks there pace of Saka. I think it's a mistake, but who am I to question Southgate?
Khedira NEVER has anything nice to say about England....won won the war anyway!!!
The crew says it's Southgate being extra cautious. Sound familiar?
Nice one, Dave
Southgate is getting a panning for his defensive change today. Khedira and Ekoku don't like it.
I don't think I know the answer, David. Were you alive for the 66 Final?
I think Emerson is starting at left back in place of Spinach Aiola. Interesting considering he hardly ever gets a game for Chelsea. I don't see him causing England problems and they should test him early and often
Stewart Robson is with Kelly....DAMN IT
Yes. I was seven and a half months old, so I don't think I watched the final, but guess I got a diaper change and probably had an afternoon nap. None of those are answers to there quiz question
We will have to put up with TT in the booth
I think Kelly would be a better announcer than TT
Apparently, there is a lot of difficulty now getting the fans into Wembley - a lot of arrests outside the ground.
ESPN still showing Wimpleton Mixed Double Final....hopefully they shove them over to ESPN2
The one negative for England has been the conduct of the crowd. A real pity. A drastic improvement is needed in that department
I heard that. Ticket holders can't get into the stadium with so many fans out of it
Still got the bloody mixed doubles on ESPN. They need to switch that to ESPNEWS
That's disgraceful. Then what's the point of being a ticket holder?
They're going to the deuce which is a straight swap
The coverage has started on the channel - I've just had a singalong with Kate with "Three Lions."
It's Macca v. Del Piero in the studio.
Last host to win the Euros were the French in 1984!!
Spain in 64, Italy in 68 also won
The hosts that have lost the Final..Portugal 04 and France 16
I hope that streak of hosts losing in the final is broken .
Any answers to the quiz question?
DAMN IT....UEFA announced the white shorts for Italy and blue for England.....IT IS NOT THE CASE
Italy in all blue
England in all white
Why switch up the partnership for the Final!!!
Harry Kane and Abel to emulate Geoff Hurst?
I agree. Nothing wrong with the traditional color shorts. Poor form from UEFA
What was the question? I missed it
I can't believe it is only 20 minutes away
What am I doing today that I did in the 1966 final?
I believe it was what was going with David both on the 1966 Final Day and today. I haven't got a Scooby.
He was in Texas?
Robbo thinks England will win by a couple
WELL IN STU
Stuart Robson is predicting a 2-0 win; I'd be happy with that.
Stu Robson says England to win by a couple of goals. Well stated
He wasn't working
Nice tribute to Paul Mariner there on ESPN.
Debs had a dream England were 3-0 up at half time
Well done, Dave. The only difference is that we were living at the former Bergstrom AFB in Austin. We moved there a month before the final. Hope that's a good omen
HEE HEE! I would bet that I needed a diaper change and a nap during the 1966 Final.
Agreed, Bob. Nice tribute to Paul.
Would love Deb's dream to come true
I think we were visiting my grandparents in Portsmouth in '66
Here come the Red Arrows...ESPN talking over it!
The sound is one of the thrills
Since both teams love to sit back, which one will take the initiative. ?Something has to give. Both dangerous on the break
Great guess, Dave. I would have never got that one.
I always liked watching the Red Arrows
I thought one of you would have said that I pooped my underwear, LOL!
Why have England fans suddenly adopted "Sweet Caroline" as a song? I don't get it. Neil Diamond's classic is associated with the Red Sox.
Hey, David - if Kane scores a first half hat-trick, I might just soil myself.
Feeling 'So Good'
Me too
England win....celebrating on the field... put a ball on the spot....Gareth knock it in
Here comes the Trophy!
Just a quick reminder, it's all on the line for our Dave this afternoon.
If Phil Foden comes off the bench and scores the winner, but England lose, Kane doesn't score and isn't named the MVP, then the Predictions Game will be drawn.
If, however, England win, Kane scores at least one or is named MVP, then Dave wins the lot.
65,000 under the arch!
Here comes Italy....the home team
Here comes England...the away team
Foden is injured and not even on the bench....so that route is closed
COME ON DAVE! Bring it home!
Hate the booing....show class
Don't like the fans booing the anthem. That needs to stop
Not that much booing...good
Anthems now - I have to admit that the Italians do have a cracking one; almost as good as the French.
I wonder if the hatchet man is a surviver from the team that won the WC in 2006
I don't hear too much booing, thankfully.
I am still so annoyed with the kits
Plenty of Italian support despite England being the home team
Lots of Italian ex-pats in London. I've had plenty of great Italian meals in Soho.
Then definitely plenty of Italian support. Hope the Italians are silenced this evening
AWAY WE GO
COME ON ENGLAND
COME ON ENGLAND
COME ON ENGLAND
Both sets of players taking the knee - well done!
And we're away!
They're off from Wembley .
COME ON ENGLAND!
Stop the booing of possession tho!!
Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and George are in attendance
Kate zoomed across the City from Wimbledon
Nervy at the back....gift of a corner
Maguire gives away an unnecessary early corner. Mark 'em up!
Early nerves as Harry Maguire gifts Italy a corner with a routine pass
England have not conceded from open play yet
YES!!!!!!
SHAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YESSSSS!!!!!!!!
Luke Shaw buries a volley at the backpost!
Maguire heads away the corner . Now England attack
GOAL !!! ENGLAND SHAW DO TAKE AN EARLY LEAD OFF A GREAT CROSS FROM TRIPPIER OFF THE THE ITALIAN CORNER
What a finish!!!!
Don't sit back
Nice pass on the counter by Harry Kane and Abel to find Trippier and That Shaw was a great volley that beat Donna summa at the near post
A long way to go, gentlemen!
Earliest goal in a Euro final and first United player to score in a Euro final
Jorginho called for Mounting his Chelsea teammate and seems rattled
Good point, Bob. Also plenty of time for puns
Phillips already gets a bollocking from the ref - he needs to settle down.
England needs to score more and often . Referee Kippers calls Kai Phillips for a foul
Stupid foul....bugger
Furious pace to this match and Shaw gives up a dangerous free kick now. Come on!
Well over
Keep that up
Insigne hits it and it sails well over the top. Crowd roars its approval.
That Shaw was a stupid trip on Chiesa. Insigne signs off with a free kick well over
The Italians look rattled. Long may that continue
TT saying it is unknown territory for the Italians....let me think...their two 35 year old center backs have been behind before
The Hatchet man called for a less than Sterling challenge after a poor Italian back header
Shaw doesn't know what to do with a throw in
oooh....England almost in!
We have to score again
Oh - Trippier was played in there and nearly found Sterling in the middle!
Nice one , Dave. Maybe unknown because it's been a while and the dementia may be affecting the ancient center backs, LOL
Darke bring up rotten stats...shut it
Shawberto Carlos....GET ANOTHER
England with another break on their right...poor cross
I agree, David - we've knocked Italy out of their rhythm.
England with another break on their right...poor cross
OH! Nice pass and skill from Harry Kane , but a poor cross from Trippier, but Di Lorenzo gifts them a corner
Come on - let's have another!
Italy counter off the England corner, but england wins it back with a roar of approval from the crowd
Luke Shaw does wine corner off of Jorginho
England have the Azzurri on the rack now - another corner.
Corner to England....come on!
Cleared
Corner from Trippier headed away then a cross mounted straight to Donnarumma
Come on England....get another one soon
Jorginho needs to be the victim of a few physical challenges to take him out of his rhythm physically and mentally
Familiar territory for Bobby Man . Trailing in a Wembley up final without scoring
Late flag so no corner
Jorginho tries to spread it to Insigne but he's well offside.
A chelsea connection , but Emmerson offside off a long ball from Jorginho
That Shaw was a nice long ball from Pickford, but Shaw was a poor final pass
I'm surprised by the number of Italian long balls. I don't think I've ever seen that many from an Italian team in a match
Come on England....stop the long balls between defenders
Harry Kane and Abel to win a free kick off the Hatchet Man
Yeah - I agree; Italy just not able to play their game yet.
That Shaw is another poor cross . This time off a nice long ball from Kieran trippier
Jorginho's down needing treatment now.
Jorginho down hurt.... he doesn't seem happy
Magic spray coming out
Jorginho down for Italy. That would be a huge loss as he's a key player tactically and not sure if they have anyone else to play that role nearly as well
Tom Cruise cruised across the City too
Just fist pumped Becks
Becks and Tom Cruise shown celebrating the England goal
Nice one , Dave
Come on England.... Italy down to ten men for a while
Wow - I noticed Tom Cruise at Center Court for the Men's Final this morning. Now he's next to Becks in the Royal Box. He's having some day!
Maybe I should become a Scientologist!
I don't think the magic spray worked on Jorginho
LOL, Bob. I don't picture you in a cult, but nice try
Maguire has been great....he looks a little shaky so far
Jorginho's back on but hobbling around.
What did Sterling try there!!!
Italy having trouble with the physical battles. Most of their players would struggle in the Prem
England defenders broke up that Italian break well.
Chiesa battles his way to an Italian corner
I guess it's a goal kick/. Jorginho back on
I know, Dave - I think Razza was trying to play a one-two off an Italian! Cheeky!
Trippier offside this time off another long ball
Come on England
Come on England
Come on England
Was he trying that move Beardsley did against Paraquay in 86
Hit one side, ran the other.....then shanked it over
Insigne tries one from about forty yards. You can tell that they're frustrated.
Insigner with a long shot well wide that was really desperate
Kane....don't try a Cruyff turn in your own half
I remember that Beardsley move - would have made a wonderful goal.
Shoot it Kane
I don't see the point of Mount - I'd much prefer to see Grealish on.
Kippers calls Di Lorenzo for mounting down a player illegally
My one complaint so far is that we are losing the ball in some dangerous places
Get the ball out Phillips.... trying to turn in your box...STOP IT
Bloody Leeds
I'm worried that England are dropping too deep - we're playing at home!
We are sitting back too much
COME ON
Now Walker loses it
STOP IT
Trippier sees Emerson over the line and then they have some verbals.
Ballon Shaw
Lengthy Italian possession and now Emmerson with words for Trippier. Looks like frustration
Totally agree, Dave - we need to do more than just hit them on the break.
Sterling and Mount almost get in
I would liked Mount to shoot
OH! Nice idea , but poor final mounted pass
