Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

The big news is that Arsenal will be without both Aubama and Lacazette tonight. Mikel Arteta was just interviewed saying that they were "not well," which sounds like Covid to me.
As for Brentford, they're just going to drink in the occasion tonight. It's their first match in the top flight for 74 years.
Now then - here are the teams warming up now at Brentford:
Brentford: Raya, Henry, Pinnock, Jansson, Ajer, Norgaard, Canos, Janelt, Onyeka, Mbeumo, Toney. Subs: Gunnarrson, Goode, Forss, Wissa, Ghoddos, Dervisoglu, Bidstrup, Sorensen, Rasmussen
Arsenal: Leno, Tierney, White, Chambers, Mari, Xhaka, Lokonga, Smith Rowe, Pepe, Martinelli, Balogun. Subs: Hein, Bellerin, Saka, Maitland-Niles, Holding, Soares, Tavares, Nelson, Elneny
In the PPP First Goalscorer Stakes, here were the choices:
Saka - Bee's Knees, MUR, Someone Said
Smith-Rowe - Blue Devil, The Saint
Pepe - Gooner, Red Dragon
Toney - MOT, UWS, Yellows
Aubama - Pink Kits, Simon
Lacazette - Red Devil, Swansong
West Ham is the outlier, predicting Michail Antonio to score first, which would mean no goals in this one or the early War of the Roses match tomorrow. Hope that's not true.
Pink Kits is not a fan of the Arsenal warm-ups. "Ewwww," she has yelled from the kitchen.
The new Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun is an interesting story. Born in NYC, he played for the US Under 18 but has since changed his allegiance to England.
Afternoon Bob.....here we go again
Crazy that Brentford's last top flight match was in May 1947....at home...to Arsenal! BORING!
Great craic in the Brentford stadium now. Arlo and the boys can barely be heard above the din.
Welcome, Dave - I'm buzzing about the start of the new season. How's your day been?
Sorry again to hear about your friend Joe.
Impressed that NBC have given a two hour pre game....I don't like they all still think they have to be comedians !
I have STILL not listened to Talksport or 5Live since July 11th
Brentford Community Stadium has got to be the most boring name for a ground ever.
I've been watching since 2pm - great stuff!
Thanks Bob
I feel relieved actually
We had a great day out back in the end of May
Did some other stuff since but then we just visited him in his house. He was out of bed a couple of Saturdays ago then a couple of days later he was just in his bed. Our last couple visits(last time was yesterday) he didn't know we were there
Strange to think that Brentford's striker has more Premier League experience than Arsenal's. Ivan Toney played 12 minutes in the top flight for Newcastle in 2015/16. Folarin Balogun is making his PL debut.
Terrible. It stinks to get old.
Hey Jude being belted out.....sounds great!
It really does
Marvelous - I can't wait to hear the Elland Road faithful next weekend.
AWAY WE GO for another season
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
Arsenal with red socks with their blue kits.... that's a first
Players continuing to take a knee before matches. And we're away in the 2021/2022 season.
Wonder why they are wearing the third kit
Their second kit is yellow
Oh - early cross in to Martinelli who got the header all wrong. I thought he might get that on target.
Who do Leeds host next week?
Tierney tries one from distance. Easy catch for Raya.
Could Brentford actually top the league by the end of the night
Wonder if they have ever been there before
We've got the Toffees in a traditional Saturday 3pm kickoff. ER will be buzzing!
A bit naughty from Norgaard early on. Smith-Rowe won't have liked that.
I saw an article earlier of a list of the biggest clubs never to play in the Premier League
Brentford were 7th on the list
6 Luton
5 Plymouth
4 Notts County
3 Millwall
2 Bristol City
1. Preston NE
Great match to start at home
Didn't they beat you there last season....payback
I've just asked Pink Kits for her fashion opinion on Arsenal's third kit.
"Yuck!" she says. She doesn't understand why teams need to have "stupid, ugly patterns on their shirts." Your thoughts?
Yeah - we beat them at Goodison and they beat us at ER.
Sounds so good with the fans
No one wants to see Millwall and their support in the Prem.
Bayern losing at Gladbach after 35 min
Since Gooner isn't here right now, I'll just say that this side looks like the sort of team that Arsenal used to run out for a League Cup 3rd Round match.
It definitely does; I'm just a teeny bit worried that the Leeds team will freeze up under the pressure with the fans in the ground.
Totally agree with Pinky!!
I know Arsenal had to change today but you know my thoughts about teams changing kits when there is no need to
It's been a really lively start to this match.
Decent effort off the outside of the of post
First real attack from Brentford. Looping header in the end from Onyeka. Leno wasn't bothered.
Oh - Toney has a go now from a through ball and hits the outside of the stanchion.
Wow.....Arsenal have Chelsea and Man City up next
Leeds have been mentioned far too often so far today!
Bayern tie it up
Nice move from the Arsenal and my old mate Pontus concedes a corner.
No points given guessing the Bayern goal scorer
LOL! I don't agree - loving the shout-outs.
Ivor Biggun?
Arsenal starting to create some pretty patterns now. Tierney is a constant threat, similar to Luke Shaw for United.
GOAL...Brentford take the lead and are top of the league!!!!
Awful clearance
Arlo wants to create controversy
Oh my! Brentford have scored their first goal in the top flight in 74 years!
Got the Bayern scorer in one!
I thought that the ball had gone out of play.
Cheers!
Arsenal are in a heck of a match now - they've got the quality to get back into this one but the crowd is an asset for the Bees.
Not surprisingly, no one had picked Sergi Canos as the first goalscorer. So the two points are gone.
Yeah - if Arsenal drop this one and then lose to Chelsea and City, Arteta might be headed for an early exit.
Arsenal look rattled now - Mbeuma was through again but dragged it wide.
Struth....forgot to take the ball with him...then he wriggles thru...hits it wide
Should have been two nil
Oh - Balogun had a chance there but fluffed his lines.
The Oles have started among the Brentford crowd - a bit early for that. We're only half an hour in!
Counter attack now from the Arsenal ends with Pepe shooting well wide.
Arsenal mucking about with it at the back now.
Brentford win the ball back....tried to be too cute!!
I know United would be struggling against Brentford if it was us
Brentford used to Watkins and Benramma as well
Balogun wriggles free on the left side but then blazes well over.
Arsenal faffing about with it at the back again
Not sure why Saka isn't starting.
Yeah - they were a really handy side that last year that we were in the Championship with Watkins and Benrahma. I thought that they might go up that year.
one added minute
HT
Well, Gooner will not have enjoyed that first half one bit. Not only did Arsenal concede a goal but he had to endure listening to Lee Dixon carping away.
Teams back out now - no changes to either side as of yet.
There are nine teams to play in the Prem with an F in their name
Better from the Arsenal now but Tierney's eventual cross shot was rifled into Raya's arms.
Tierney just walloped the cross...straight to the keeper....Cross it
I still don't see Arteta as being the answer for the Gunners....he was Bloody Pep's assistant...what else did he do
Oh - Smith-Rowe turned on the jets there and pulled a great save out of Raya. Either side of him though.
Smith Rowe with a chance straight down the middle...saved
Great move....useles cross by Brentford man
Modern Day crapcross....I have just made up a new word
Well, it's the old legends syndrome. What had OGS or Giggsy done in management before they took over?
A number of players now warming up for the Arsenal, including Saka, Maitland-Niles and Elneny.
How would you define a "crapcross?"
Have you seen the new Newcastle shirt?
Google it and tell me what you see
Crapcross...definition.... a modern day football player's attempt to cross the ball by closing his eyes and hitting the ball as hard as he can along the ground. It doesn't beat the first man 65% of the time.... finds a team mate 5% of the time
Nice cheers for Saka as he comes on
Lovely - Bukayo Saka gets a warm ovation from the Brentford crowd as he comes on.
Lakonga tries one from distance. Nothing doing.
Not a good night for Balogun, who only had 13 touches and didn't look likely to score. Martinelli has looked toothless as well. Arsenal really need to buy a striker.
Oh - great counter from the Gunners and Tierney could easily have scored.
Oh - Martinelli should have scored from that near post header. Didn't get enough on to the flick.
Brentford almost score again
Oh - Mbeuma nearly scored a second. Great save by Leno!
Did you google Newcastle?
Did you see my definition ?
Love your definition!
I think it is quite accurate
Just Googled the Toon kit. Weird. With the sponsorship - Fun 88? - on it, it looks like a #4 on the front.
I agree with you about OGS and Giggs and Rooney and Lampard
That's it.... a huge 4!!!
TWO NIL BEES..... Championship wrapped up
We had a string of them at Leeds in the aftermath of the Revie years - Bremner, Clarke, Giles, Gray, Yorath. None of them were any good.
Oh - bloody hell! They've now conceded to a bloody long throw. Allowed it to bounce - cardinal sin.
2-0
Arsenal fans look really arsed off about this display now. I can only imagine the swearing that will be going on at 555 East Nelson Avenue.
Dangerous free kick now for the Arsenal. This one needs to fly in if they're to have any chance of getting back into this one.
Pepe takes and it's a tame effort.
Thunderstorms here...the match just cut off
I can only imagine
Uh oh - I'm sure that they're headed out way. Nice afternoon here.
Oh - Norgaard nearly adds a third!
Apparently, should have been 3-0...still no picture
Chambers was about to take a throw but he was subbed so he just chucked the ball away in disgust. Not a good sign.
Arteta always says....trust the process.....I don't get it
Now it's Tavares with a hoof over the bar - his first touch since coming on. Doesn't inspire confidence.
Arsenal fans streaming out now - not good.
I cannot get out of the emergency alert system channel!!
FINALLY the match is back
Why didn't Saka cross that!!! Got half a step space.....cut it back and never got it over
Now it's Xhaka can trying one from distance. Never going to beat Raya from that range.
Arsenal need two....still passing it around the back
Pepe with a chance....great save
Even better on the replay
Oh - great break from Arsenal there through Saka and Smith-Rowe. Pepe drew an excellent save out of Raya.
5 added minutes...how was this half any different than the one added first half
Arteta looks like a dead man walking. He could easily win the sack race now.
Tierney with another rotten cross there!
Or should I say
Crapcross
Ian Wright Wright Wright in the stands, not looking happy.
Wrighty feel wrongy
That is it
Arsenal lose the first London derby of the season and bottom of the table....BRENTFORD ON TOP!
So sorry Steve!
I actually thought that it was a decent cross. Only needed someone throwing himself at it.
A sad night for Gooners but sheer delirium for Brentford.
That's it for me
Take Bob....talk to you early morning tomorrow
TTFN
Not good for Leeds fans either. My rubric depends on the recently promoted sides to be on the bottom. Don't need any upstarts starting to get ideas.
I'll look forward to sharing that one with you tomorrow, mate. Have a good evening.
